Creators of Pricing Games
« on: May 18, 2008, 08:28:53 PM »
I am curious to know who created which pricing games.  If anybody knows some that aren't mentioned below, please post the person and the game(s) they created.  If I made any mistakes, tell me about it.

Bob Barker: 2 for the price of 1, Eazy as 123, Let ‘Em Roll, Triple Play, Bonkers, Coming or Going, More or Less

Kathy "Fingers" Greco: Secret "X"

Frank Wayne: Plinko, Professor Price

The Dob: Ten Chances, Check Game, It's in the Bag, Clearance Sale, Pushover, Pocket Change

Mandel Ilagan: 1/2 Off

Bart Eskander: Stack the Deck

Steve Ryan: Now... or Then

Wasn't 1/2 Off created by a page or P.A.?

As previously posted, it was created by Mandel Ilagan; who at the time was working for FremantleMedia working as the manager of development.

You will find that many of the classic, original games were created by Frank Wayne, with Jay Wolpert picking up with several more popular games like Hole in One, Temptation, and Golden Road.

Roger has created several of my favorites, many of which are posted above.  I believe Roger has created the most pricing games of any one person.

I know most all of the games' creators, and perhaps someday I can list them here.  There are very few people who have been around for 35+ years to remember who did what at the production company; and we wouldn't want to slight anyone proper credit.

Trivia:  Mark Goodson is credited with the creation of at least two pricing games; both of which survive to this day.

I'd say one right price and double prices... What do I win?

It was probably 2 of the first 3 pricing games: Any Number, Bonus Game, and Double Prices.  I would also be tempted to say Clock Game, since it was his idea to nearly scrap the game after the clock wouldn't properly work--although scrapping the game and being the one responsible for creating the game is two different things.

Any Number and Range Game were created by Ted Cooper.

Clock Game has Frank Wayne written all over it (Beat the Clock -- get it?).

Checkout was created by former TPIR staffer Sam(antha) Governale.

I believe One Wrong Price was created by Paul Alter.

Sam Governale. Kathy and Barbara helped her present it.

Hold your horses there, Jnelson; unless we have a reliable source that we can cite so readers can verify it, like ClockGameJohn's DVD guide, we shouldn't be including the information listed here. While I'm sure most of the people here are right to the best of their knowledge, people do make mistakes and misremember, which is why we can't cite forum threads like this (known as "self-published sources") as the source.

The only way you could verify this information for sure is to call Roger, Kathy, Stan, Bart, or a few others who were at G-T at the time (Phil Rossi, Barbara Hunter, Mark Bowerman, Jay Wolpert), but then you are violating Wikipedia's policy against primary sources. I am dead certain about all of the ones I posted except Clock Game where I am making an educated guess.

I want to know who created Professor Price  :D

I want to know who created Professor Price  :D

I mentioned in my first post that it was Frank Wayne.  Interestingly, he also created Plinko, which is the most popular pricing game.  So he created perhaps the worst pricing game and the best pricing game.
