PiR Music from Ten Chances
« on: May 09, 2006, 03:45:56 PM »
From youtube.com there is a video that has an old clip of a contestant playing TEN CHANCES.  My question is - what is the name of the pre-car music playing in this clip?  Can I download it from one of the several sites with PIR music?

Here's the clip  --> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QKEYJB_TVb4

I'm referring to the music that is playing during the kabob-it and the refrig/freezer.

Thanks,
PIR85

EDIT:  I think it was played on today's 5/9 show also, although I don't remember which game or if it was from an IUFB.  Also, can anyone identify the models in that clip?  Thanks.

The cue in the clip you mentioned is "Rye Bred".  I love that cue!

The cue we hear today before 10 chances is "Sam" and the section you're familiar with starts about :53 in.  The music as heard on the show is an edit of this interlude preceded by the horn tag about :23 in.

You can find the full piece at http://80stvthemes.com

Or better yet, download the CLEAN version on Casey Buck's site, http://home.comcast.net/~caseybuck.
So long!

For what it's worth, half of those videos seem to be stolen from J-Shea's site.

Anyway, I don't think hearing Rye Bred there is quite as neat as what comes after it -- the Feud car cue! :-)

Yes, I love the Feud car music!  Sounds so classic!

In the early 1980s, I asked the show's music coordinator why the "Family Feud" theme was used on "The Price Is Right." He reacted as though I said something strange. "It's not the same music," he explained. "Feud uses a different arrangement."

It's a bit hard to hear on that old clip, but it sounds like there's no banjo on the TPiR version.

To state an arrangement of a piece of music is different than the original or some other arrangement is not exactly accurate.

Think of an arrangement as a subset of the original. They are in fact based on the same original, therefore, are (in the eyes of the law - and probably most people's ears) the same piece of music.

Say for example Music Writer composes a piece for Kazoo and organ, IB Idiot arranges the piece for sackbutt and krumhorn. - same melody, harmony, progressions, etc.

It would be the same piece of music, differently arranged. It would only be considered a different piece of music if that arrangement were grossly different than that of the original.

I wonder why they don't currently use the FF theme for cars?

They technically do-----except it's the '94 intro. They probably believe too many people would hear the original and say, "HEY!!! THAT'S THE FAMILY FEUD THEME!!"

I've got a better idea: let's put the old music back on both shows!

Let's face it, the current generation of FF can't find a host to keep the interest for longer than a month.

The earlier forms of FF had a network backing it. Now, in syndication, it must work harder to get and keep viewers. In my area, it is viewed on a station which may have a 1 share at its stongest point of the day. The music would have little impact.

Considering that the 80tvthemes website is no longer available, is there a place to find the Pir Music from Ten Chances?
