It seems the game prop had some sort of electrical problem. First, the lights flashed somewhat erratically, then the top row of lights lit up left to right, followed by the bottom row. They never got the game prop into game play mode, and that was judged to be confusing to Carolyn - though she handled it quite nicely, not wasting any time or chances. But if the game prop isn't playing nice, you can't hold it against the player. Ergo, a TECHNICAL WIN!

I disagree with the technical win in Bonkers. If it had obviously confused the contestant, it would have been different. But it seemed like the light malfunction had no effect on the playing at all.

I agree heels. Even though it looked extremely weird and disorienting, it didn't look like she was confused enough to not know what she was doing.

Did anyone else notice how dusty and dirty the Hi-Lo table was during the grocery product descriptions? Someone better take a dust cloth to that post-haste!

Pretty good show today, as there were several good contestants and a nice line-up to boot!

Now I can say, Bonkers went Bonkers! The contestant sure seemed ok, but for me, it was hard to follow. I thought the lights were weird at first.

Good show today with lots of wins.

What in the world was up with Bonkers today?!? That was just weird how the lights kept randomly flashing during the gameplay portion. I really don't disagree with the technical win being declared because in my estimation those lights flashing would be pretty distracting to the contestant playing the game and cause them to lose concentration. I know some will disagree with this and that's ok, but this is just my opinion on the matter.

A question for those in the know: If there was trouble with how Bonkers was lighting up all weird, couldn't they have just cut the power?  If you think there's a problem with that because the clock likely runs on that power, surely there's someone off stage keeping time and s/he can signal if there's x seconds left/time's up.  Thoughts?
So long!

I agree. I haven't seen this episode yet, but will definitely have to just for that, and also Bonkers is one of my favorite games. I remember in an early playing of Race Game, the clock stopped working, so Bob just had a stopwatch in hand. They simply should have shut off the game and just given Drew a stopwatch. Nothing wrong with that. If they gave it someone else, it would make it difficult for the contestant.

I don't think Bonkers' light issues should have warranted a tech win. It's just that they couldn't get them shut off. If it was the lights showing where the paddles had to be placed, THAT would've been a tech win.

It also looked like the Bonkers clock started at 28 seconds instead of 30 seconds, so one could argue that as another reason to declare a technical win.  Since the contestant was moving rather quickly and not polling the audience, she very well could have made another change in those 2 seconds.

Nancy was a lot of fun.  Funny when you have a older lady who would've still been able to kill Bob if he were still hosting!  Drew's more durable, at least, but still... Nancy just doens't look like someone you'd think could possibly be dangerous :oldlol:!

The Bonkers technical win was warranted:  I know sure as heck those lights were confusing me!  Or maybe they should've just rolled out Pick a Number or something, 'cause that was just kinda' bad.

Looked like there was potential for a technical win in Take Two too, had the right combination been the two prizes Betsy hadn't picked.  Which wasn't the case, and Drew corrected himself kinda' last second, but still....

Anyone else notice Betsy's shoutout to George Lucas :oldlol:?  Pretty sure it was just two of her kids names, but considering their names, you have to suspect she's probably a fan.

Gotta love the ending today.

Drew (as he's getting mugged): "Get your pets spayed or neutered, be right ba- no, see ya next time!"

Today was a great show, and with the technical win and Drew finally meeting the equivalent of a Samoan to Bob, it just proves this is the same old Price is Right that we know and love.

An all-around good show today. Bonkers' lights going completely haywire, a great playing and win of Spelling Bee, and a couple of very memorable contestants.  Plus, an Around the World showcase!

OVERALL: 4/5.
"Nobody cares about the guest stars." - Roger Dobkowitz

"Change isn't always good. Sometimes changing things is a terrible mistake." - Bob Barker

People are tired of the f**kery and drama, but if we'd actually talk to each other sometimes instead of a whole bunch of private conversations with other people, it'd go a long way to perhaps fixing the problems most seem to see in the site.

The lights in Bonkers were confusing to me, but only for a second or two.  I was surprised that a technical win was declared.

Take 2:  It sounded like Drew got it mixed up with Pick a Pair until the last second when he said she could pick the other two products.  Question:  Do the off stage people (Roger, whoever else) yell to Drew when he needs to explain something better?  I know sometimes he gets corrected, but could they tell him for example that it could be the other two products?

From what I saw today, good show.

Drew was just awesome today, he kind of channeled Bob in some parts, but he managed to keep his own style and have fun with the show today.

We got to hear a longer than usual playing of one of the 2003 cues in Most Expensive today.  Also, I laughed at Drew's "No, not the comfy chair!" bit when he was going over the three prizes.

Nancy was fun to watch and I loved her excitement during Spelling Bee.  I was even more amazed that she managed to pick one of the CAR cards right off the bat, and hug Drew like a Samoan.  I also laughed when she hugged Drew in excitement again after winning the Showcase Showdown.  I guess one could say that Nancy is the equivalent of Melanie from the October 15, 1991 show.

Another note on Spelling Bee, this is the first time since Season 32 that the game was won 3 times with the CAR card.

I agree with Frank on this one, the lights in Bonkers today sure confused me and I think it was good that they awarded a technical win.  I also wonder why did the white lights on the prop turn off at one point then come back on again and flash irregularly.  It makes me wonder why they didn't wheel out something else, like Range Game, Freeze Frame, or Pick-a-Number instead.  Maybe Bonkers worked in this show's rehearsal but had a few bugs in it when tape was rolling.

It seemed like Drew mixed up the rules for Take Two with Pick-a-Pair.  Drew said that either the golf clubs or luggage must be kept and one of those two had to be given back and one of the two unchosen prizes, the candlesticks and the scooter, had to be picked.  In the rules, the contestant has the option of giving back the first two prizes s/he took and taking the two other prizes.  Thankfully, Drew corrected himself towards the end and said the first two prizes could be given back, but he should still explain the rules for each game specifically in order to prevent costly mistakes from happening, and have a game end up going the way of $uper $aver.

Today's close-up of the Clam was kind of an old-school shot of it, it kind of threw back to how Breslow and, for his first few years, Alter.

They started playnig Dig We Must a bit earlier than usual.  They didn't wait for the buzzer to sound before they started the music, I wonder why that was done.

You know, it seems like forever since they did an Around the World showcase, didn't they do one last season?  But it was nice to see it in the Carey era for the first time.

I laughed at how Nancy just mauled Drew when she won her showcase, and I also loved how Drew did the showcase reveal today, with some enthusiasm.

Even if the contestant wasn't affected, I think many viewers out would have been semi-furious with a non-call, the casual viewers especially might have seen it as unfair and then switch the channel. Someone pressed the "test" button or something, the lights were gradually lighting up, lol.

Otherwise, another great day! Not sure why that Element had an even -40, but I'm not complaining, and Spelling Bee has been on a lucky roll with that first pick - 2nd time it's been CAR. A couple more OOFs on that elusive dollar though... :(

Drew did his best to a) explain the tech win, b) get the sign-off right while being Samoaned. :D

S5x... the show's stabilized into something decent now, I guess...
