Have you ever considered that they might need the paychecks?

There are other jobs.  Besides, having Bob Barker as a reference has to be worth something.  And they know people, too.  They are living the fine life.

I know changes will go down, but there is still part of me that thinks that their research should be telling them something that would prevent a total bulldozing of the show.  I'll admit, it's not concrete, but I'm hoping Sunday will be ok.

The television industry is in serious economic trouble because of the recession. If people aren't buying things, companies can't afford to advertise on TV. If there's no advertising, the networks and stations aren't making money. If they're not making money, they cut jobs. NBC and Fox are both selling off their less profitable stations, and local stations all over the country are laying people off and expecting their remaining employees to do more with less. If there are no jobs in the industry, it doesn't matter who you know. You're out of luck.

Maybe I'm totally off here, but I just can't picture the behind-the-scenes staff all making enough money to be considered "living the fine life." I would think that, like many of us, once the paychecks stop rolling in, they'd be just as hurt as some of us might be.

Besides, spellingbeej, there are nowhere near as many game shows being produced as there was during the 70s and 80s. That's a pretty cavalier attitude to have, thinking someone can quit a good steady job at the drop of a hat and be instantly hired again just because they work in the television industry.

Example: WKBW, our local ABC affiliate, was at one time the most watched ABC affiliate in the United States! Now, they've recently let go two long-time anchors because they refused to take a 20% salary cut.

See, the times are rough on everyone...including people in the television industry.

My first TPIR notes:

Push-Over: About 3 or 4 viable choses in this game, but $11,880 made the most sense.
Pathfinder: I'm glad she won that car and played it perfectly.
One Wrong Price: I would've picked the recumbent bike. To me, it looked severly over-priced but I was wrong.
Check-Out: This is actually the first time I've ever seen strategy used in this game. This is how should be played if you think you under/over-priced previous grocery items. Congrats to the contestant who won this with 2 cents to spare.
That's Too Much (Lame): Should have been won, obviously The DOB wanted it to be that way. There was a $3500 gap between two prices, but she made the stupid decision of following her daughter and lost. Needless to say.
Squeeze Play: Two great choices in this game on Friday. But $8995 for the jukebox made the best choice. Unfortunately, Christopher lost this by picking $8695.

We have arrived to the season finale of Season 36. Let's roll...

Push: OK, Is this the way to start it all? C'mon, $11,880 was the definite choice.

Pathfinder: From disaster to PHENOMENAL!!!  8-O :-D It took some skill and luck for Allison to pull off that excing Exacta' in this last playing of the season. Way to go!!!!  ;-)

OWP: This one would've gotten me. For once, Audience convincement goes right.  Good job.

Check-Out: I really feared Thomas was just another one to bomb out on this one. Lucky for him that lowballing it on the Gold Bond barely saved him from disaster.

TTM: Who should I feel sorry for? Kristine? Her daughter? The Mercury Milan? I went along with the Peanut Gallery screaming to "Stop" at $21,962. There's a saying that you should always go along with what your family says. But in this case, You can't always get your way.

Squeeze: Another one dooesn't get the picture of the good ol' "995" way on those Jukeboxes.

Showcases: I loved "All About Donuts" showcase. Adding Drew's favorite contraption was a nice touch. If only they did include a supply of Krispy Kreme or Winchell's donuts, We would've been in business. I would've bidded $30K on the "Donuts" showcase and around $17,250 on the room showcase. Two great bids, though.

A 3.25-star season 36 closer.

I also want to extend my thanks to everyone at the BBS for the work they do all year long to give us the best damn game show on televison, Period. Drew gave us some charm and the best work he could do. There are some flaws he needs to work on but he's still the best for making TPIR his own and I really enjoyed him saying Hello to Bob and thanking the audience for all their support. Rich, The Models, and The Priceless staff. You're Wonderful!!!!

Finally, To Roger Dobkowitz. Not only you impressed me and all the fans for your great lineup of games and wonderful work since day one. You also were like a father figure to me and everyone else to look up to and we love you for that. Thanks for all the good work you given us and God Bless You.

What will season 37 give us? Not many changes, hopefully. The same great show we loved, Incredibly Yes.

What will be? In September, We will know.

What's the name of the music cue from showcase #2, and is it available anywhere?  I haven't found it on any of the TPIR music sites I've checked.

July 17th, 2008 - 36th Season Finale, Roger Dobkowitz's Finale, and the Finale of Price as we know it?
-------------------------------------------------------------
IUFB #1: Drew acts weird... :-)

PUSH OVER: AGAIN? Rule Of Dumb - In this game one block MUST be pushed off because it's not Push Over otherwise. Thusly, this hasn't happened in almost three years. STUPID LOSS

IUFB #2: Main Theme variant! WOO! And ironically Drew says you can use it to make a rip-off of the Main Theme itself and sell it as a ringtone...$5,000?!? WHAT WERE YOU THINKING?!?

TORTURE ALLISON PATHFINDER: 'What is this?' PERFECTO, THAT'S WHAT!

IUFB #3: And then you can spin it around and randomly stop on a game to play.

ONE WRONG PRICE: ...(snicker) See yesterday's show for why this is funny. EASY WIN

SHOWCASE SHOWDOWN #1: The new-this-Season Telephone Ticket Plug ends Number 36.
-------------------------------------------------------------
IUFB #4: Crafted from WHAT? Kept Drew laughing...$250?!? THINKING IS EVIL NOW?

CHECK-OUT: Well, think how hard it was before the win range got upped to $1.00! And then between that and $2.00! ONE DOLLAR FOR GOLD-BOND?!? WIN BY TWO CENTS...HOLY FREAKIN' CRAP!

IUFB #5: Pretty obvious winner here.

THAT'S TOO MUCH: Rule Of Dumb #2 - If a price in this game is $2,000-$3,000 more than the previous then that says you should stop. (INCREDIBLY) STUPID LOSS #2

IUFB #6: Bravo, executive desk! Bravo! DID SYD TELL YOU TO BID $5,000?

SQUEEZE PLAY: Whaba? I have NO idea what's going on so I agree that Drew wasted two minutes... Rule Of Dumb #3 - If the middle three numbers include two of the SAME number then remove the lonely one! STUPID LOSS #3

SHOWCASE SHOWDOWN #2: Drew apologizing was GREAT, otherwise...let's move on.
-------------------------------------------------------------
SHOWCASE #1: Feh.
SHOWCASE #2: Your Showcase begins with Drew's favorite thing, continues with a trip to Holland ('On The Franches Mountains'!), and ends with a sportscar! A salute to donuts that can be YOURS...

Interesting how Drew quickly inserted that thanks to the audience for supporting him in his first year. ...Wonder how they'll feel come September?

MY BIDS: $15,212/$39,123
RESULTS: Pretty close Showcase results and Drew thanks us again for the support over his first year. Sadly, CBS cuts off shortly after Rich signs off...

ROGER DOBKOWITZ APPEARANCES: Zero. Yes, on his final day as Producer he never appears during the show...or at least what CBS aired.
-------------------------------------------------------------
BEST CONTESTANT: Allison. Her Pathfinder playing was the BEST you can do!

BEST COME-FROM-BEHIND MOMENT: After the $1.00 Gold-Bond and being off on the first product by about $3.00 I had written out STUPID FRICKIN' LOSS and even DREW said 'Come over here and take your punishment like a man'!

FINAL RULING: Three losses (all of which were stupid) and no particularly good contestants but three wins (including a Perfecto and a miracle), a Showcase win, and good Drew. 7/10 (B-)

You know, they should really do an End-Of-Season Highlight Reel Special or something in Primetime. I'd watch it.

Showcase #2
Donut Maker - $150
Trip to Amsterdam - $2,970
Pontiac Solstice - $27,840

WHAT?!  The same $2970 Amsterdam trip price that shot down a contestant in Freeze Frame last year?  Wow that was tricky!
