New Pricing Game Review: GAS MONEY
« on: October 03, 2012, 12:35:05 AM »
Ultimately, the mechanic of this game (pun somewhat intended) is Price is Right meets Deal or No Deal.  Pick a choice out of a group, then eliminate others to see what you don't have.  The differentiation coming in that you earn cash with eliminations here, and providing a wonderful hybrid car/cash game.  The first Pricing Game to debut with Drew Carey as host, and my personal favorite of the four so far. I know some folks don't like it, but any game that lets you win some cash to offset the cost of owning that car you win is going to be high on my list of favorites. 9/10

Gas Money is a high-stakes game, and unlike Let 'em Roll or Spelling Bee, you are guaranteed to win the car and thousands of dollars in cash.

I liked the initial format better-the price the contestant believed was correct hung over their head, and that tempted them to bail out with any money if he or she thought the pink slip was among the four remaining prices in play.  The new format seems to be an accommodation for Drew so that he does not screw the rules up.

I like how since the game debuted, the price cards look like credit cards now, and the money cards and car card became more detailed-the money cards look like credit card and the pink slip looks like an actual pink slip instead of a pink card that says "car" on it.  The monitor to keep tally of the money is also cool, as is the whole gas station set.

Despite the change in format, it's a great game, and I give it a 9/10.

It's Five Price Tags meets Danger Price: Along with Pass the Buck, Gas Money is the only pricing game that offers both a sizable cash prize AND a car. However, every time the contestant wins the car also means $10,000, combining the best of both worlds of what contestants want to win. After you've selected two or three cash tags, it can be really tempting to bail out, especially if you have at least $5,000 in the pot. The display/prop is really cool and this is one of the best games introduced in the 2000's.

Overall: A-

I liked the old rules better, but it doesn't seem to interrupt the flow of the game any.  The concept is neat.

8/10, 9/10 under the old rules

Five Price Tags in reverse without the SP's.  That's all it is.  It's like the money isn't even there.  And why is it called "Gas Money" when it has absolutely nothing to do with gas?  The unconvincing set?

I really don't know what Roger was thinking when he came up with this game.  Or what the staff was thinking when they changed the rules.  Maybe they wanted a game where you can win a car and a lot of cash as well?  Seems like a ripoff of Pass the Buck's endgame, which was horrible to begin with!

Also, for a game in which you can win $10,000 (for some reason, you can't win the car without it), it isn't built up at all.

A waste of a car game.

Overall: 0.5/10

Too hard and it needs to be retired.
