Where did you read they were using a green screen for trips?  All I know is that a video wall (not a green screen) is being used.  We don't know what it'll be used for.
Tell me: Where did this information come from?

The video wall was never used due to budget issues.

A member in the audience yesterday reported that a green screen is now being used for trips.

Okay, I'll bite.  And yes, I know it's a rhetorical question.

What the <blank> is the point?  Do the trip skins look that hideous in HD?  Or we all of a sudden offering trips to places without skins?  Iraq?  Iran?  Azerbaijan?  Uzbekistan?
They can be close at the top, too.

Since when has anything in the post-Roger era had a point?

From watching the DVD set, I think the "Green Screen" is interesting and neat.

Because everyone is all wound up about this newfangled green screen, when it was (as a blue screen) used years ago as evidenced by episodes on the DVD set...

Somehow, I have a feeling this isn't going to be quite the same thing.

I have a feeling that this is just the first change of many many more to come. Probably one of the things discussed @ the "secret meeting" held recently. I guess a certain production company doesn't think a well-preserved classic is good enough for TV as is....

Do we have any confirmation that it's a permanent thing? It could very well be that the skin they were gonna use got damaged before the show, and they didn't have time to fix it, so they had to find a way to display it somehow.

Totally makes sense to me. All the image elements can be stored on a computer, manipulated and reused multiple times over in PhotoShop or Illustrator and imported into the Chyron, Deko, or framestore unit in full resolution. No need for individual artists to repeatedly paint new skins or crews rushing to switch them out.
Modern tracking technology would allow a frame to be flown in or out on camera and the graphic would follow.

FWIW, it will probably make for more visually appealing TV, as well.
Let's all take a deep breath.
Wise words.
