While in line yesterday at the studio, someone mentioned that Mr. Barker was at the Farmer's Market (beside the studio) doing some kind of interview. They said it looked like a promotion for something. I wonder if this has to do with the book? Ironically, I told this potential contestant, who was debating wether or not to wear his Marine uniform, to wear it - he did and he was selected to come on down! There was no mention of Mr. Barker appearing on the show the day before.

I don't know about anyone else, but I would've been at that farmer's market faster than you can say "come on down!". I could attend a taping later on, but seeing Bob (or even meeting Bob) in person for me would be the ultimate dream come true.

Here's what I'm thinking: Bob probably has certain obligations that he must fulfill to the publisher of the book. One such obligation would be promotion of the book. The publisher's promotional agent may have just gone ahead and booked Bob on the show regardless of his feelings towards the current staff or the current state of the show.

My other thought is this - Bob's entire estate is going to animal rights issues, so one can presume that the money from the book will eventually end up in the hands of animal rights organizations, a cause which Bob cares greatly about. It would be in Bob's best interest to go on the show he is most recognized for to promote his book to raise money for those organizations.

Why on Earth not?  Bob's ego has traditionally loomed large in his decisions.  How could you possibly get a more satisfying stroke than getting the opportunity to make a brief, no-strings-attached cameo on a show that was a great success for you and generally considered an embarassment ever since you left?
