Hi everyone.  Just heard the buzz around here that Drew has fired the director and is bringing in someone new.  It will be big news soon I'm sure.

Drew fired the director?!

That he could do something like that shouldn't come as a surprise to you, and don't bring up the whole, "I don't see ‘Drew Carey - Executive Producer’ in the credits."  Because he is Drew Carey, he doesn't have to play by the rules, as stupid as that concept is.

I'm doubting the truthfulness of these remarks, but considering that a lot of crud and firings have happened this season, I don't rule it out of possibility.  While I would certainly not object to Bart being replaced, I doubt we're about to get Marc Breslow or Paul Alter back, so I doubt if Price were to change directors that we'd be ending up with anybody better.

But then again, any director who can actually catch the price reveal on Double Prices properly is directing better than Bart.

How anyone is still enjoying the show is beyond me.

I'm not going to jump the gun on reactions here until we get another source or some other kind of proof, I'm not willing to buy this yet until I see more.

However, if it is true, and if it was really thanks to Drew, then I don't understand how someone can get that much power in under two years. I really don't.

I'm sorry, but firing the director is the job of the executive producer or someone higher up in the Fremantle ladder. I don't believe this, per se

Which is exactly why it makes perfect sense for Drew to be doing it.

I guess so. Nanny has posted truthfully stories in the past, so...I guess.

But...is this a good or a bad thing that Bart's gone?

At this point, who knows?  It's not like we haven't wanted him gone pretty much since the instant Paul Alter was fired...but God only knows who will end up taking his place.

As much kvetching goes on about Bart's skills as a director around here, I'd have expected people to be happy Drew did this...

Yes, perhaps Drew made a recommendation that the director be replaced, but for him to do the actual firing, is not believable.

I'm curious who they are considering, R. Brian DiPirro is one possibility because he directed the Game$how Marathon version of the show.  We saw the arrow graphic again and a full shot of the Race Game curtain revealing the prizes for Race Game.  I really think he does have the potential to return the camerawork to a degree, to the days of Alter and Breslow.  I have seen DiPirro's work on Deal or No Deal and Whammy, and I was impressed by it.

Another possibility, and I hope they don't hire him, Andy Felsher, who directed TnPIR '94 and currently directs the Vegas show.  There are several shots from that version that carried over to the daytime, and none have been good.  One prime example of this is just showing the host and contestant and the edge of the Giant Price Tag instead of showing the Tag and then zooming in on the host and contestant.

One thing both these directors have in common is that they how to handle a jib cam properly.

Is there a large difference in salary between the director and associate director?  If there is, and assuming the director gets paid more, I could see them promoting Fred Witten to director, but I wouldn't want to see his camerawork on a regular basis.  There was one show in Season 35 were he subbed for Bart, who had an appointment that day, and most of us wanted Bart back the next day after seeing that show.

How Pick-a-Pair looked in early 1991.  Love the abundance of lights and white label outlines!

Well...if this is true..I hope whoever they get brings back the nifty turntable shots (esp. the shot of Bonus Game coming around on the turntable) and oh yeah, who can actually catch a price reveal properly.
