Well, that's it. After a grand total of 200 shows (including primetime), Drew Carey can shed his rookie stripes as we have reached the finish line of Price Season 36. By now, you know tapings for Price Season 37 are set to begin Sunday. What we'll see on the stage of Studio 33 remains a mystery, but I remain optimistic.

As usual, thanks go out to...

  • Marc Green and John Sly, who have claimed this little slice of the internet on beahalf of the Loyal Friends and True of the world for the last several years,
  • The staff at Priceville and Television City, for the hard work they do day in and day out in pulling things together;
  • The models - regulars Lanisha Cole, Phire Dawson, Gwendolyn Osborne, Rachel Reynolds, Brandi Sherwood, Shane Stirling (we're glad you're back!) and Gabrielle Tuite, along with newcomers Tamiko Nash and (Washington State's own) Amber Lancaster - for adding their own style, beauty and personality to the proceedings. A better group you won't find anywhere;
  • Drew Carey, who has taken on the daunting task of following a legend, and while he still has some polishing to do, he's delivered.
  • and, lastly, outgoing producer Roger Dobkowitz. We are losing a major cog in this show after 36 years of service. With the number of new game shows hitting the market, perhaps he might find a new sandbox to play in. Or, maybe he'll just enjoy some quality time for a while. Whatever the case, we will never forget what you contributed. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you.

Oh, almost forgot. Fingers. We all wish Kathy Greco the best of luck as she takes over as producer for Price Season 37. All we can hope for is that Price continues to be the entertaining hour we expect it to be. Two months from now, we'll see what the future holds. In the meantime, there's the repeats.

With that, keep the faith, remember the sunscreen, and until sometime in September or so when the new season launces, having accomplished the somewhat swift completion is appointed rounds, Price Season 36 is adjourned, sine die. See you in September (or so), folks!

...and then, there were none.

Boy, the final playing of Check-out this season almost had a LOSS, but nope! Nice win on Pathfinder!

I think that was one of the more luckier playings of Check-out there with a difference of 2 cents. Another exacta in Pathfinder this season (if you include primetime) and we had Christopher's head blurred. Was expecting more from this show, but we still had some very memorable moments. See you all in September or whenever season 37 starts.

A great show to finish off this season, a season of many changes and getting-used-to. A funny, entertaining show. Drew was on his game, one of his best shows of the season. An awesome exacta in Pathfinder, a close call that nobody expected in Check-Out, a close showcase, and a blurred contestant! A great way to end Season 36.

And now, to the tune of REM ...

"It's the end of the Price as we know it!"

Disclaimer : The above is merely a satire. I do not believe that Price will be totally butchered. Like Joe, I'm optimistic. I'm just trying to have fun! ;)

And a special note to Joe : It's another great season of recaps, and it's always very great to read you, whether to see what I missed, or just relive the moment. Thanks for everything, and I'll read you again in September!

Pushover - Missed it by one number!  Ouch!
Pathfinder - Mistake-free Pathfinder!  Awesome!
One Wrong Price - Good job! :-)
Check Out - Phew!  That was a close one! :o  Fortunately, it was 2 cents under $2.00!
That's Too Much! - How painful!  Kristine should've listened to the audience and not to her daughter.
Squeeze Play - Too bad! :-(  I figured the 6 needed to come out of the price.

Overall, a pretty good show, IMHO.  I can't wait to see what Season 37 holds.  I mean, I'll still miss Roger Dobkowitz, but I still can't wait for next season.

I'm surprised that we didn't get a Big 3 game played today, ya know?  However, I'm sure with Fingers now at the helm, we'll see one possibly on next season's premiere week, if there are pricing games left... (being optimistic).

On a lighter note, that Mercury Milan STILL hasn't been won??!?  As well as an exacta on Pathfinder.  Oh well, at least Drew's favorite SP (Do-Nu-Matic) showed up in a showcase lol .

While I don't think Roger Dobkowitz knew about his imminent dismissal until after the final "cut" had been uttered, it would have been nice to tell him ahead of time, then assemble a final showcase skit in his honor.

Then again, that might not have been such a good idea, given that the show crew would have probably figured out what was going on and the last show would be marred with re-takes and cuts (because they emotionally couldn't get through it).

Am looking forward to the season stats.

And yes, I agree with JC — while Drew Carey still has work to do, he's performed admirably. To Drew's critics and hard-core Bob Barker folks, I'd say, just remember that Bob at one time was young and inexperienced, too; I'm sure he had some "Truth or Consequences" moments from his early days on the show that he'd likely rather forget. And so were all of us at our 9-to-5 jobs (e.g., perhaps making a big mistake that we'd like to forget about), or in our teen-aged years, such as saying something to a potential boy/girlfriend that turns him/her off, etc. ... and so it goes. The thing you do is laugh at your mistakes, try to learn from them and move on ... at least that's what I've seen Drew do.

Excitedly looking forward to what Season 37 has in store.

Brian

Great to see a Carolina shirt! It was just for you, Armadillo.

Tough to see all the losses today. Roger tried his best to make it a successful season finale, but some contestants just wouldn't oblige.

A fun way to end the season, with a silly shopper that ended up winning, a successful Pathfinder without a miss, a player that forgot about the 99 rule in Squeeze Play and a contestant that was given a bum steer by her daughter in That's Too Much.  Guess many audience members knew about the Mercury Milan.

So we expect to see a new pricing game called Gas Money for next season, but do you suppose they might add Shot In The Dark, Tower Of Money and Master Price somewhere down the road?

...and don't forget that during the 37th season, remember to pick up a copy of The Price Is Right on PC, Nintendo DS, or on the Wii featuring Rich Fields.

Trip Report

Arrived in line around 5am. Around 60 or so in front of us. Nothing to note while waiting in line... oh, other than a hooker tried to commit suicide by collapsing in the middle of Beverly Blvd! Several people in line ran to her and dragged her out of the street. Police /paramedics arrived in short order. These girls in front of us videotaped the whole thing. Yeah, nice vacation video...

Received numbers 3 and 4 for the 4pm taping. Pretty straight-forward processing. It was my first time back since they started taking photos and the page who was taking them was pretty laid back and droll. None of the pages really stood out like Chuck used to. Stan might remember me now since he asked how many time's I've been. I think it's 8 or 9 in total. Recently, Drew's first taping and one show for the week they added shows at the last minute and were hurting for audiences and now the final taping of the season. He threw me a loop and asked me what I was going to do that weekend!

Number 2 in line Erik had been to tapings in the days before and noted how mellow this crowd was in comparison. When we were on the benches outside the studio, we started to cheer as people left their interview to try and get some energy up. Worked for a little bit although the wave did manage to catch on a few times. Once everyone was in the studio the energy did pick up and it was a good crowd. Erik asked if I was on any of the message boards and I stated golden-road.net. I asked him if he was and he answered he could 'neither confirm nor deny.' Hi Erik if you're reading this!

Christopher and Erik's energy carried the loading process and made it a lot of fun. Roger was watching from stage left for quite a while. Noticed the new producer's booth and found out later it wasn't particularly liked by the staff. It was funny to watch Kathy open and shut her window! Rich's warm-up was pretty much the same it's always been.

THE SHOW
Christopher was called! Good for him. I was amazed that the audience did not sit down right away after the first item up for bids was revealed. I think it was during the bidding that Jeff motioned for everyone to sit down. There were no stop downs although Drew was surprised it was taking so long to set up a game. I believe it was One Wrong Price but I could be mistaken. Rich swallowed during the plugs during One Wrong Price and that made Drew and crew laugh. It was picked up as the audience was exiting of course. We actually saw them tow the trailer from Pushover into the studio while we were waiting for security check. We had no idea it was that much!!  Drew didn't chit chat too much with the audience but rather told stories. He only signed one autograph which was interesting since at the first taping he was deluged with requests.

Drew has a nice report with Adam. Just before coming back from break Drew said the famous 'the price is wrong, Prizes' line which is why laughs can be heard. Pathfinder was expertly played. Check Out was won because Erik and I were screaming and motioning $1. The contestant listened to us and thanked us when he was filling out his paperwork. The audience was clearly screaming the right point to stop for That's Too Much but she obviously went with her daughter. Drew gave the contestant and daughter and good ribbing during the break along the lines of 'I could have won a car but...'  Christopher finally got on stage! Erik and I are clearly signaling for him to remove the 6 but he went with the audience. A tough loss...

During the setup for the showcase showdown, we asked Christopher if he won his showcase if we could come on stage with him. He agreed. What a nice guy!!  I was worried we had jinxed his chances for making it to the showcase but he made it through! I knew immediately he would get the first showcase and was tallying prices in my head. We agreed he should go with 15500. Christopher looked out to us and we were signaling that bid with our fingers. When I saw the second showcase bid I thought she was waaay under. When the revealed her ARP and it was so close I was a little worried. Then they revealed Christopher's. I couldn't believe it. He won! For the first and probably only time in my life I was going to be on the stage of the Studio 33 to celebrate helping someone win their showcase!!!!  We ran up onto the stage and being a techie I was a little more interested in looking at the behind the scenes elements of the set. Local 33 was striking the car set from the other showcase. Erik and I talked to Drew during the credits. Sadly we don't appear at all on the broadcast version. Hopefully on the video on cbs.com. Before we knew it were walking off of the stage.

POST SHOW
As the audience was unloading Scott was standing nearby so I snagged an autograph in Stan's book. Scott's first signing! Then I got Rich's. As we started to leave Roger appeared. I asked him for an autograph as well and struck up a brief chat. I did make a point to let him know how many of you have enjoyed the game line-ups recently and he seemed pleased by that. He said he could mix it up like adding Lucky 7 to the second half because Bob didn't want to wait for the additional set-up time to stage the car. I asked him if they were going to change the set for the next season and he said yes but he wouldn't tell me because that would be a spoiler! Roger pointed out he wanted to make the show genuinely entertaining and fun as it's ever been. I shook his hand and thanked him for his time. The page finally shooed us out. To know that I was the last 'loyal friend and true' of the show to chat with Roger inside the studio is humbling. Thank you again Roger for your time and everything you've done for the show. You will be missed greatly.

Funny how they manifest it's self, but dreams do come true.

An okay season finale, though I was expecting a little more. Although I was half expecting a Big Three game and Plinko, Roger sure threw us a curveball in his final show.  Very nice wins in Pathfinder and Check-Out (lowballing that last GP really helped!)  It was also nice to see the doughnut maker show up in the Showcase.

OVERALL: 3/5.

I am anxious for what next season will hold. I also remain optimistic, for the sake of everyone still involved with the show.  Who knows...maybe next season will actually be halfway decent. At least we don't have too terribly long to wait.

:cry:I t's the end of an era.   We'll miss ya, Dob.

Today's lineup was somewhat lackluster.

Pathfinder was awesome, no ifs, ands, or buts about it. Roger did have it set up for a pretty easy win.

Check Out: Talk about comeback of the year.Thomas' pricing the Gold Bond at 1.00 squeezed him a win.

Squeeze Play: Y'know it would have seen somewhat a fitting conclusion if Barker's Bargain Bar had been played.

Was it me or did anyone else find Christopher's shirt distasteful about being the first to be blurred out?

As far as next season goes: I am not optimistic.

This was a great show to end the season and one to remember as the end of Price as we know it. We heard some great music cues today, and Drew even pointed out the 1972 electric keyboard variation on the main theme!

Was I the only one who was caught off-guard by Drew's comment before commercial, "This is my last show of the season." For a moment, I almost thought he was announcing his departure because of the way he started the sentence, and it was kept secret.

Seems like everyone was on the ball for this season finale; from Drew to the contestants to the guy who managed to get in that blur there!  It was certainly a hectic season, but everyone (well, almost everyone) made it out alright and Drew improved greatly since his first episode.

But now starts the long wait for Sunday…

I too was surprised when I heard Drew start out with "This is my last show..."

That's Too Much was a prime example of why contestants need to pay attention to the prices and not the audience... there was an incredibly small gap between the final two revealed prices, and little chance that the car's price would have fit in there. Squeeze Play topped it off, although that one wasn't as obvious.

Now we wait and we wonder, if this was the final time we'll see 6 pricing games and 2 showcases in an episode...

Pushover:  At first, I said $4118 because that was the most expensive price that wasn’t the first.  When I realized it was 5-digit pushover, I guessed $11,880.  Price is Right history: only the 2nd time in this game that somebody chose the first possible price.

One Wrong Price: I didn’t like how Rebecca went with the audience’s advice over her own, even though it did result in a win.  She said “I think it’s 2, but the audience says 1, so I’ll go with 1”.  If she has a guess, then she should have gone with it.  Fortunately, going with the audience was advantageous…this time.

Check Out:  Last time we played we had an EXACTA, this time we had a near loss!  In two consecutive playing, there has been great excitement during the end part of this game.

That’s TOO Much:  Maybe it was because of the $3,000+ gap between prices, but I had a feeling that $21,962 was the price to stop at.

Showcase 2:  A showcase about donuts and no year supply of Krispy Kreme?  I love donuts so much that I was a glad to see a showcase about them.

SC1: My Bid: $16,433 / Diff: $1,564
SC2: My Bid: $30,415 / Diff: $545

I liked how the camera blurred out Christopher's face--the highlight of today's show. :-)

Was I the only one who was caught off-guard by Drew's comment before commercial, "This is my last show of the season." For a moment, I almost thought he was announcing his departure because of the way he started the sentence, and it was kept secret.
So I was.  For a moment, I thought he wasn't coming back, possibly because of the changes that will happen next season.  Afterwards, I realized he was talking about this being his last show of the season.

Last show of the year today. Very, very disappointing and lackluster lineup. 3 quickies and TTM? Come on. This group of games didn't even come close to making the big splash.

Pushy: Easy. There was only one price that looked right and she couldn't even pick that out.
Pathy: Perfectly played, I was thinking that same price.
OWP: I was thinking the bike, but we had a cheapo wine bar.
Check-Out: Too close for comfort, but he still wins. But Gold Bond at 1.00? I don't even think you can get the cap for a dollar.
TTM: Fairly easy, but there was a very close difference between the last two values revealed.
Squeezy: This game is never a gimme, but today wasn't difficult and he missed it.

SC1: How lackluster. Nothing special at all.
SC2: I always overprice those Solstices.

Thanks for everything DOB! Hopefully Fingers has something good up her sleeve. I remain optimistic for now.

Yeah, when Drew started saying "This is my last show," I really thought he was leaving for good. Then we would've been really screwed. It'll be interesting to see how he adapts to the changes next season. It's too bad he only got to work with DOB for one year.

We were hollering $1 because we thought he was way over on all the other prices. We wanted to get his grand total down. Drew mentioned that Roger told him after the game was won that was the first time in the game's history a contestant took that strategy to low-ball on purpose. All thanks to us in the front row!

I just noticed that everyone was still standing during the first one bid.  It seemed like it was a bit special.  I wonder if they knew about it.  Either it was that or the last show of season 36.

And YAY for a fellow Greensboroian (or however you say it) making it to stage and starting the show!

I am optimistic for what will happen Sunday.  There is no way they can make the show unrecognizible in less than 3 weeks.

As some people say, "WOOT" an indirect reference,

Drew, you did a helluva job for the shoes you had to fill.  I'm sure it will only get better (pending season's 37 unknown changed)
Roger, as the say in the Christmas carol, "you'll go down in history" as one of the greatest influences and contributors of the world's best gameshow

As far as today's show is concerned

CHECKOUT: it was nice someone "logically" and FINALYL realized he overshot most of the prices in Checkout and, of all things, bid $1, on a product.  What a win..

PATH - Man, if that game was a gimme for the price, all the options along the 21 path either would make repeating numbers, or a "crazy" looking price..

TTM - I'm sure she'll have some words with her daughter, not to mention, stopping when the previous price was only about $300 more, the DOB would NEVER make "That's Too Hard, THAT HARD"

WOW, hard to believe Season 36 has already come and gone!  In a way, it's the end of 2 eras.  First, Drew has survived his first year with Price, complete with wild contestants, pricing game malfunctions, and spinning turntables.  He's learned all the pricing games (most to perfection) and has improved greatly since his first show.

Also, it's the end of The Dob era.  The man that's created crazy pricing game lineups and has been there since day one is not there anymore.  While Season 37 might be as bad as some people are saying, I believe it'll be alright.  Some people swore up and down Season 36 was gonna be horrible, but it was far from that.  In fact, I haven't had this much fun watching the show since the 90s.  Nevertheless, the Dob will be missed.

Anyway, on with the show...

Even though the first price is never correct, I really thought the trailer was $8805...until I realized it was 5-digit Pushover.  Then I knew it wasn't the first choice.  In fact, I'm surprised Lise stopped at $18K, especially when she first tried to stop at $8K.

WOW, an exacta in Pathfinder!  Don't see that happen very often; very cool.

Talk about luck...very close win in Check-Out!  Great strategy for the last item!  I don't think I would have ever thought of someone doing that.

I usually think That's Too Much is hard.  Not today, though.  It was pretty obvious for Kristine to stop at $21K, especially since that price was $3500+ more than the previous.

One-Bid #1:  A live feed of Drew... just like on the first taped episode of this season.

Pushy:  $18,805 was way too much for that fugly trailer.  All of us in chat knew it was only $11,880.

Pathy:  Yeah!  That's how you finish the season!  An exacta!

1WP:  All three of those prizes looked overpriced.  But the wine thingie did look the most wrong.

Check-Out:  That $1 bid on the Gold Bond literally saved his ass.  Any guess over $1.02 and he was gone.

That's Never Won!:  Roger had this so set up for a win.  The huge jump from $18,421 to $21,962 should've set off alarms.  When the price went from $21,962 to $22,145 (a difference of only $183) and Kristine stopped, I knew it was a loss.

Squeezy:  Christopher is the first person to get blurred out for something other than a wardrobe malfunction. :oldlol: Wow, another forced win goes unclaimed.

SC #2:  Yay!  Showcase '83! :P And Drew's favorite prize!

My showcase bids:
Starcrossed--$20,607
Car--$27,307

I just noticed that everyone was still standing during the first one bid.  It seemed like it was a bit special.  I wonder if they knew about it.  Either it was that or the last show of season 36.

Having been there, I can say that if there was buzz about it being Roger's last show, none of it made it around to my earshot. I knew it was the last show of the season and I'm pretty sure it had been mentioned by the pages and Rich.

(I asked one of the pages, "So this is going to be the last show of the season, right?" He said, "Nope, they're shooting more in a couple of weeks." I said, "Oh, so that's not going to be the beginning of season 37?" He fumbled for a bit and said, "Oh, well, yeah, the new season.")

Drew was on top of his game today. He was clear, hardly ever mumbled, and was great with explaining the rules. I also loved what he did at the end saying it was a blessing hosting Season 36.

Then after that he said the spay/neuter plug, followed by "how ya doin' Bob?". I thought that was great. He recognized Bob and gave him a shout out, showing tons of class.

Great first season Drew!

Wow, the last show of season 36. I had the same feeling i do now that i had in june 2007. I just hope that season 37 isnt the end of price as we know it.

Drew has become a better host and is able to restore some things that Bob couldnt. For example, Bob never really had the relation with Rich that Drew does. Also, after the scandals Bob just was never the same with the models. Drew names them and is getting better at interacting. He also knows when to use his humor and when not to, for the most part.

Also, I love it when they use the Cliffhangers music (the part we never hear) for showcases like they did for showcase #2 today.

On the showcase with the Pontiac Solstice, I actually committed a WSD.  I bid $31,000 when the ARP was $30,960.  Grrr...over by $40.

Wow...Push Over sucked.  That was a pretty crappy way to start Roger's last show.

On the other hand, Pathfinder was fantastic!  In fact, so was Pathfinder even being played!  I can't believe there were small prize games on all the shows this week, none of them were Plinko, and three of them were car games!

Check-Out was great, too.  Really, any Check-Out win (except for Mba's in Season 32) is great to see.

Drew's shout-out to Bob at the end of the show was a neat little surprise. :)

And...wow...that's it.  I mean, really...that, for all practical purposes, may very well have been the end of The Price Is Right.  I'm honestly not sure why some of you guys are optimistic about next season...I'm sure as heck not.  Right now, I have no reason to think anything good is going to happen on Sunday.  We already know Syd's messed with the Big Wheel, and we've all seen rumors tossed around of other things he wants to do, like only playing four pricing games and getting rid of the second showcase...and I just can't see how any of it makes any sense.  The media reports about wanting to "give Drew more time to make the show his own" don't make any sense, either -- we saw Drew kill a minute today at the end of the Showcase by talking slowly to the contestants and then stating outright that he was trying to kill extra time!  (That's not intended as a slam on Drew -- rather, it's meant to point out that anyone who wants to give him more time where nothing's going on has to be nuts.)  I really don't think...no, actually, I think we did know how important Roger was to the show before all this started.  I just don't think most of us ever bothered to truly consider what the show might be like without him...and now that we've gotten a glimpse, it's freakin' scary.

I don't blame Drew for any of this, and I wish him the absolute best of luck on Sunday...but I have this horrible feeling that the show he does that day is going to be something that isn't recognizable as The Price Is Right.

Almost one year ago, Drew was named as the new host of The Price is Right.  There was some skepticism from many people, including myself, about how Drew would fill Bob's shoes and make the show his own.  I was willing to give him a chance and I was impressed with what I saw back in October and he just made me keep watching the show.  I will go on record and say that I have never enjoyed a season of The Price is Right immensely since the mid-90s.  Drew interacted well with the models and made them feel special and it was great he announced Gwendolyn's pregnancy on the air, making the show have that family atmosphere again.  I also love how he gave shout-outs to Rich in the latter part of this season and gave Roger and Scott some camera time.  I love the fact that some old-school aspects of the show returned this season, like the host wearing a tuxedo regularly for primetime shows, foreign cars offered again, the split screen returns to the Showcase Showdown after 11 years of being MIA, and we got some awesome game slotting like Balance Game and Shopping Spree played sixth for the first time ever and Lucky $even returning to the second half for the first time since 1999.

Now on with my comments about today's show.

Well, for the second time in the history of The Price is Right, someone went with the first price in Pushover.  It really was a shame that we all knew this game would be lost, but nobody else knows about that unwritten rule.  It was not the best way to start off the final show of this season.

Well what a way to end Pathfinder this season, with our only exacta on the daytime show.  The only really tricky numbers were the second and third ones, but Allison played very well and it made for a highlight for the first half.

It was pretty interesting we saw two puny spins by two contestants in the same Showcase Showdown.  I don't know how often that ever happens.

When Thomas lowballed on the Gold Bond, I had a hunch that may have paid off.  I was amazed that he managed to win with just a mere two-cent difference, that is probably one of the closest wins in the history of Check-Out.  I don't recall anyone intentionally lowballing or overshooting an item to make up for error, but that's the beauty of Check-Out, how manipulative it can be!

It really stinks that Kristine's daughter talked her out of stopping at $21,962 in That's Too Much.  I think Roger set that up for a win, especially since the price in the line jumped from $19,000 to $21,000.

I loved how they included Drew's favorite prize, the automatic doughnut maker, in the second showcase.  I also love how they simulated the Pontiac Solstice doing doughnuts with some smoke and the car turntable.

I loved how Drew thanked everyone for giving him a chance and said that the first season with him as host is in the books.  I also loved how he gave a shout-out to Bob at the end.

Well, I fulfilled my dream of posting my two cents in every show's recap thread and I am proud of it.  I am also grateful to have amassed 96 shows from this season on DVD so that I can enjoy them in the future.  I want to thank Marc, John, Steve, Tom, Willy, and all the G-R personnel for keeping this community up and making it an awesome place to discuss the show.  For those of you who are curious about my standing on the show next year, I will say that I will not pass judgment until I see it for myself.  If I don't like what I see, I will simply say, "I gave it a shot, but it doesn't work for me." and move on.  It has been a wonderful year with you all and I hope everyone has a great summer.

Drew, you were awesome.  I wish you the best of luck with your second season as host and I hope you continue to blow us away like you have this year.  Roger, I e-mailed you today but I wanted to say this again, thank you for 36 years of dedication to The Price is Right, you will be missed by many but remember this credo..."In Dob We Trust."

Well, yes.  I agree with most everyone that this show was unfortunately not such a great line up BUT I had some laughs and, as always, I love seeing Drew when he's in a good mood.

Drew's speech at the end was very nice and his little shoutout to Bob Barker (or did he say Mom?) was touching.

Anyway, I can't wait to spoil what I see on Sunday!!!!  I'll try to post as soon as possible after the taping to spill what I see (this has, of course, been cleared by John himself).

Goodbye S36, hello S37!

Well, I was disappointed not to see one of the "Big Three" today.  I actually wouldn't have minded Plinko either; somehow That's Too Much doesn't really spell special.

The Check-Out win was......lucky.  I don't think without the help from the audience he would have thought of that strategy.

Overall for this show: B-

Overall for Drew for the season: B+

Overall for this season of Price: A-

I'm of the mind that time is a factor here. We're going to end up with what? 3 weeks between tapings? I don't know how much overhaul they can really do in that amount of time. I do think we might see just one showdown now and then a one person showcase. I could be wrong but that would save some time and it's much like what the international versions do

And so, the magical wonder that was Season 36 has come to a close, but what an odd lineup for a season finale; none of the "Big Three" were played this week, which makes this finale even stranger.  That Check-Out win was one of the luckiest wins I've ever witnesses, and Squeeze Play was downright painful to watch--Chistopher didn't do his homework on the "99" rule.  Oh, and Pathfinder was AMAZING to see!

Well, I have to close this by saying a couple of things.  First, there's talk about how Price is not going to look the same once the tapings for S37 get started.  Here's what I think:  I think we should all wait until the first show of S37 airs before we go bouncing off the walls and stick forks in the show.  I can understand that there are changes and stuff coming, but I don't think we need to get all riled up about it until we actually see the first show of the 37th season of TPIR for ourselves before making any sort of judgments.*

Second, Drew showed a lot of class during this past Season, and he did a helluva job in his first year at the helm.  He NEVER tried to emulate Bob in any way; he just made the show his own.  I felt really humbled to have gotten the chance to watch (and talk to) Drew in person this past season; he helped me feel at home inside that hollowed place known as The Bob Barker Studio.  It will make things even more special for me when I'm able to watch the April 9th episode (the show taped on March 17th @ 1:00 PM; my first taping this season) once again during the "Priceless Summer."  (thanks to Joe's rerun guide)

Finally, there are a few people on here that I'd wish to thank:

1.  Marc and John--for keeping us at ease in regards to recent events and for helping to keep a sense of order.
2.  Willy and Nam--even though I never got the chance to see any TPIR tapings with you guys, it truly was an honor to finally get the chance to see y'all in person in Houston; I won't forget that Saturday!  :-D
3.  Stephanie--you've kept my conscience strong and steady; you're the best friend on this site anyone can have.  *KISS*

* - The opinions expressed in the 2nd paragraph were my opinions only, and they DO NOT in any way reflect the views of the other members of this site.

I hope to be able to visit next year again.

I hope they show the episode originally aired on March 6.  That was when I sat right behind contestants row and  I saw Myself every time they bid.

While you certainly have a right to your opinion, I'm still willing to take a wait-and-see approach on the post-Dobkowitz TPiR shows. If what I see in September matches your assessment, I will join your camp. If I like what I see, then I will like what I see.

Hmm...a lineup of Push Over, Pathfinder, One Wrong Price, Check-Out, That's Too Much! and Squeeze Play? I was expecting the Dob to go out with a bang, but we managed to get a split in this season finale.

The two high points: a Pathfinder exacta and a Check-Out win by 2 cents!

The three low points: Those terrible losses in Push Over, That's Too Much! and Squeeze Play.

After a full season with Drew, I can now say that this ranks among my favorite seasons of TPIR ever! I can't wait to see the changes they have in store next year. Overall, Drew's a terrific host in his own right, and the best thing about it is he never tries to copycat Bob. Both of them have their own unique styles, and I like them both the same. I love how Drew interacts with Rich and the models, and also how he celebrates with contestants after they win. I'm also happy to see the split-screen return to the SCSD, and I didn't mind the name change from Barker's Marker$ to Make Your Mark, either. Well, now that Season 36 is finally over, what'll happen in Season 37? If anybody here is going to next week's taping sessions, I would love o hear about it. Then we can decide whether the show goes on as the same great TPIR we've all come to love.

Congratulations, Drew! Hopefully, we can see more of you in the coming years!

One Bid 1: As I was preparing my lunch, I heard Rich laughing. That has to mean something. I thought it might be another One Bid blooper like the piano.

Push Over: A trailer like that as much as a car? No way. If anything, I would've said 11880, which made a heck of a lot more sense than 18805.

["Torture Allison in"] Pathfinder: What torture? She played this game more excellent than me.

One Wrong Price: I was tossed between the wine bar and the bike. I was a little nervous because I took that bar as a wine cabinet, thinking it was too much. It was too much anyway.

Check-Out: So far, I could never get the price of any Southern seasoning; I really thought Thomas went a little too high by saying $3.00. I would said $2.00, which would still be high. Boy, nailing it by two cent was another shocker! "Howdy!"

That's Too Much!: Ah, the debate on whether to listen to the Peanut Gallery or your loved ones....

One Bid 6: Didn't matter too much since we're going to get at least one more. I did like that desk, though. To me, I imagined Shane running Shell Game on that desk. Now I'm imagining myself playing Shell Game, Grocery Game, etc.

Squeeze Play: Ah, this takes me back to the 30th anniversary special. I was waiting for Blurred Christopher to win it so I can dance again to the jukebox music. It would've been a good way to celebrate the end.

Showcases: Man, I loved that Donuts Showcase of the Donut Maker, "Franches" and "Showcase '83". Too bad it wasn't won. Why do I feel like calling somebody a donut for the departure of Roger?

Well, that's it for now. The season was B-Grade in my opinion. I've experienced it in person, which was awesome. I cannot wait to find out what the changes will be next season. Will they be good (like some other game show I cannot figure out right now) or bad (Like Temptation)? Either way, Roger, Drew, the models, and the rest of the crew have done a fantastic job with Season 36.

This was a great show to finish the season.

I have to echo the sentiments about Drew this year.  He has made SERIOUS progress since the start of the season.  It is so odd seeing the earlier shows in the season especially after seeing the one over the past couple of months.

I'll second the highly enjoyable season declarations as well.   Over the last month, I think the show has made HUGE progress in getting everybody in show back together (models, Rich, producing staff, stage staff, etc.).  The dialogue with Rich really says a lot.

The ending of the show was amazing! It definitely sounded like at first Drew was saying it was his last show, but that's just Drew and his delivery sometimes.

I'm optimistic about Season 37.  The can do video displays the right way.  Heck, they can save resources by showing a trip display on a video board.  I'd like to see them use it as a drop down prop (like the price tag).  Besides, I have to wonder, if the staff really did NOT want to be there, several would have walked with Roger.  Television infamy is on the line and I'm sure several of them don't want to be the ones that wreck The Price is Right.  The Right things will be done.

Thank you so much Joe for doing this.  You seem to have a demanding profession and the fact you can find time to do this is amazing.

Thanks also to the mods of this board.  I believe those guys before I believe some of the internet garbage out there these days.

Hopefully, in Season 37, I can make my first trip to the Bob Barker Studio.

I know changes will go down, but there is still part of me that thinks that their research should be telling them something that would prevent a total bulldozing of the show.  I'll admit, it's not concrete, but I'm hoping Sunday will be ok.

The television industry is in serious economic trouble because of the recession. If people aren't buying things, companies can't afford to advertise on TV. If there's no advertising, the networks and stations aren't making money. If they're not making money, they cut jobs. NBC and Fox are both selling off their less profitable stations, and local stations all over the country are laying people off and expecting their remaining employees to do more with less. If there are no jobs in the industry, it doesn't matter who you know. You're out of luck.

Maybe I'm totally off here, but I just can't picture the behind-the-scenes staff all making enough money to be considered "living the fine life." I would think that, like many of us, once the paychecks stop rolling in, they'd be just as hurt as some of us might be.

Besides, spellingbeej, there are nowhere near as many game shows being produced as there was during the 70s and 80s. That's a pretty cavalier attitude to have, thinking someone can quit a good steady job at the drop of a hat and be instantly hired again just because they work in the television industry.

Example: WKBW, our local ABC affiliate, was at one time the most watched ABC affiliate in the United States! Now, they've recently let go two long-time anchors because they refused to take a 20% salary cut.

See, the times are rough on everyone...including people in the television industry.

My first TPIR notes:

Push-Over: About 3 or 4 viable choses in this game, but $11,880 made the most sense.
Pathfinder: I'm glad she won that car and played it perfectly.
One Wrong Price: I would've picked the recumbent bike. To me, it looked severly over-priced but I was wrong.
Check-Out: This is actually the first time I've ever seen strategy used in this game. This is how should be played if you think you under/over-priced previous grocery items. Congrats to the contestant who won this with 2 cents to spare.
That's Too Much (Lame): Should have been won, obviously The DOB wanted it to be that way. There was a $3500 gap between two prices, but she made the stupid decision of following her daughter and lost. Needless to say.
Squeeze Play: Two great choices in this game on Friday. But $8995 for the jukebox made the best choice. Unfortunately, Christopher lost this by picking $8695.

We have arrived to the season finale of Season 36. Let's roll...

Push: OK, Is this the way to start it all? C'mon, $11,880 was the definite choice.

Pathfinder: From disaster to PHENOMENAL!!!  8-O :-D It took some skill and luck for Allison to pull off that excing Exacta' in this last playing of the season. Way to go!!!!  ;-)

OWP: This one would've gotten me. For once, Audience convincement goes right.  Good job.

Check-Out: I really feared Thomas was just another one to bomb out on this one. Lucky for him that lowballing it on the Gold Bond barely saved him from disaster.

TTM: Who should I feel sorry for? Kristine? Her daughter? The Mercury Milan? I went along with the Peanut Gallery screaming to "Stop" at $21,962. There's a saying that you should always go along with what your family says. But in this case, You can't always get your way.

Squeeze: Another one dooesn't get the picture of the good ol' "995" way on those Jukeboxes.

Showcases: I loved "All About Donuts" showcase. Adding Drew's favorite contraption was a nice touch. If only they did include a supply of Krispy Kreme or Winchell's donuts, We would've been in business. I would've bidded $30K on the "Donuts" showcase and around $17,250 on the room showcase. Two great bids, though.

A 3.25-star season 36 closer.

I also want to extend my thanks to everyone at the BBS for the work they do all year long to give us the best damn game show on televison, Period. Drew gave us some charm and the best work he could do. There are some flaws he needs to work on but he's still the best for making TPIR his own and I really enjoyed him saying Hello to Bob and thanking the audience for all their support. Rich, The Models, and The Priceless staff. You're Wonderful!!!!

Finally, To Roger Dobkowitz. Not only you impressed me and all the fans for your great lineup of games and wonderful work since day one. You also were like a father figure to me and everyone else to look up to and we love you for that. Thanks for all the good work you given us and God Bless You.

What will season 37 give us? Not many changes, hopefully. The same great show we loved, Incredibly Yes.

What will be? In September, We will know.

What's the name of the music cue from showcase #2, and is it available anywhere?  I haven't found it on any of the TPIR music sites I've checked.

Showcase #2 used two cues, both of which are available HERE (http://www.angelfire.com/funky/plinkoman/music.html)

1983 Showcase Cue (http://www.mediafire.com/?3txcmymu4dp)

On the Franches Mountains (http://www.mediafire.com/?1ftgeobgown) (which is actually the beginning of the yodel song used during Cliffhangers)

July 17th, 2008 - 36th Season Finale, Roger Dobkowitz's Finale, and the Finale of Price as we know it?
-------------------------------------------------------------
IUFB #1: Drew acts weird... :-)

PUSH OVER: AGAIN? Rule Of Dumb - In this game one block MUST be pushed off because it's not Push Over otherwise. Thusly, this hasn't happened in almost three years. STUPID LOSS

IUFB #2: Main Theme variant! WOO! And ironically Drew says you can use it to make a rip-off of the Main Theme itself and sell it as a ringtone...$5,000?!? WHAT WERE YOU THINKING?!?

TORTURE ALLISON PATHFINDER: 'What is this?' PERFECTO, THAT'S WHAT!

IUFB #3: And then you can spin it around and randomly stop on a game to play.

ONE WRONG PRICE: ...(snicker) See yesterday's show for why this is funny. EASY WIN

SHOWCASE SHOWDOWN #1: The new-this-Season Telephone Ticket Plug ends Number 36.
-------------------------------------------------------------
IUFB #4: Crafted from WHAT? Kept Drew laughing...$250?!? THINKING IS EVIL NOW?

CHECK-OUT: Well, think how hard it was before the win range got upped to $1.00! And then between that and $2.00! ONE DOLLAR FOR GOLD-BOND?!? WIN BY TWO CENTS...HOLY FREAKIN' CRAP!

IUFB #5: Pretty obvious winner here.

THAT'S TOO MUCH: Rule Of Dumb #2 - If a price in this game is $2,000-$3,000 more than the previous then that says you should stop. (INCREDIBLY) STUPID LOSS #2

IUFB #6: Bravo, executive desk! Bravo! DID SYD TELL YOU TO BID $5,000?

SQUEEZE PLAY: Whaba? I have NO idea what's going on so I agree that Drew wasted two minutes... Rule Of Dumb #3 - If the middle three numbers include two of the SAME number then remove the lonely one! STUPID LOSS #3

SHOWCASE SHOWDOWN #2: Drew apologizing was GREAT, otherwise...let's move on.
-------------------------------------------------------------
SHOWCASE #1: Feh.
SHOWCASE #2: Your Showcase begins with Drew's favorite thing, continues with a trip to Holland ('On The Franches Mountains'!), and ends with a sportscar! A salute to donuts that can be YOURS...

Interesting how Drew quickly inserted that thanks to the audience for supporting him in his first year. ...Wonder how they'll feel come September?

MY BIDS: $15,212/$39,123
RESULTS: Pretty close Showcase results and Drew thanks us again for the support over his first year. Sadly, CBS cuts off shortly after Rich signs off...

ROGER DOBKOWITZ APPEARANCES: Zero. Yes, on his final day as Producer he never appears during the show...or at least what CBS aired.
-------------------------------------------------------------
BEST CONTESTANT: Allison. Her Pathfinder playing was the BEST you can do!

BEST COME-FROM-BEHIND MOMENT: After the $1.00 Gold-Bond and being off on the first product by about $3.00 I had written out STUPID FRICKIN' LOSS and even DREW said 'Come over here and take your punishment like a man'!

FINAL RULING: Three losses (all of which were stupid) and no particularly good contestants but three wins (including a Perfecto and a miracle), a Showcase win, and good Drew. 7/10 (B-)

You know, they should really do an End-Of-Season Highlight Reel Special or something in Primetime. I'd watch it.

Showcase #2
Donut Maker - $150
Trip to Amsterdam - $2,970
Pontiac Solstice - $27,840

WHAT?!  The same $2970 Amsterdam trip price that shot down a contestant in Freeze Frame last year?  Wow that was tricky!
