NaT: Aw man- Richard started out so well.

OA: Well done, Lauren, for quieting the audience majority (wanted her to change the zero)! My first guess would've been $20,365 & I would've won too.

MYM: Easy.

2ftPo1: The audience's help worked for Marie in this case.

MK: Glad Lisa didn't need another key to win the car!

P!: Johnnie didn't have as much luck as we would've hoped- first, he was held to $2,100 & then he wipes out in SCSD #2 (spinning a nickel the first time & then spinning the dollar).

Showcases: Wouldn't you know- just two aired shows into S44, we have a DSW & Lauren's also crowned a GRAND CHAMP w/ a fitting difference of $33...YOU KILLED IT, LAUREN!!!!!!!

I would be a little surprised if somebody wins more than Lauren later this wk.

That was an excellent show today with both car games won AND a DSW.  This is probably the earliest DSW that's ever been won in the history of TPIR.  I was glad to hear the classic cues again (especially Big Banana).  A quick thought on Now or Then: That was a disappointing ending (I too got fooled by the red cabbage).  No $10,000 drops on Plinko was unfortunate to see.  One final thing: Did anybody else get a little irritated that George didn't say, "Two prizes for the price of one!" when that game was unveiled? This season has been off to an amazing start, and let's hope that the winning stays contagious for tomorrow and the rest of the week.

This was another great episode indeed. It was nice to hear the 80s cues again, although I was hoping for the MG/HS cue.

This had to be the longest lineup (save for the all-Plinko episode) in a long time, but there weren't many quick games debuting in the 80s. At least the editing wasn't too terrible.

It was great to see the jumbo trip skin come back, and a DSW so early in the season! This season is off to a rolling start!

Another good Show.
The one Cue i was expecting to hear today ( MG / HS Car Cue ) didn't happen , but at least I got another playing of Bean Stalker.

Now...and Then: Just seeing that name made me feel like a kid again! Alas, the loss ruined that moment.

One Away: This is one of a few games I expected to show up in an 80s-themed show, and it was won nicely.

Make Your Move: Another nice win!

2 for the Price of 1: As that was the first game created by Bob Barker in 1989 after he took over for the late Frank Wayne as executive producer the year before, it was fitting to include this game on today's episode. And it was a great win too.

Master Key: Don't you just love it when the car is won with only one key earned?

Plinko: Definitely a must-play for any 80s show, and it was nice to see that played last, despite the very subpar outcome.

Showcases: That was a totally unexpected DSW! Way to go, Lauren!

Miscellaneous: This show was another winner in my book! Classic cues galore, the return of the large trip skins that were discarded in 2008, and best of all, the iconic purple-red-orange Turntable look is back for the first time in 13 years. I can't wait to see what's in store for the 90s  8-)

I feel somewhat iffy on the Plinko reveal: using the original reveal method from its first playing is nice, but given the alternative was to bring back the Plinko sign (which was used for the majority of the decade) I suppose "disco ball" was the less expensive route.

One Away: This is one of a few games I expected to show up in an 80s-themed show, and it was won nicely.

I noticed that there was a bit of a delay in both the horns sounding, and the reveal of each number. I haven't watched the show regularly since the end of Season 35 -- is this standard practice for One Away now?

best of all, the iconic purple-red-orange Turntable look is back for the first time in 13 years.

The turntable looked amazing. I can't recall right now (and won't be able to check for a few hours), but at the start of the show, the color in-between the patterns wasn't green, right? If so, I wonder why.

I feel somewhat iffy on the Plinko reveal: using the original reveal method from its first playing is nice, but given the alternative was to bring back the Plinko sign (which was used for the majority of the decade) I suppose "disco ball" was the less expensive route.

I think that playing the Family Feud/Grand Game music would also have been a nice touch, especially since they played the clip of the premiere with said theme.

A lot of good with today's show, but I'm going to pick nits a little more than I did yesterday. But just a few. :P

I was disappointed with contestants' row. They literally just had to change the background color of the yellow display to orange. A click of the mouse would have made it authentic-looking...

Same thing with the Showcase podia, although to a lesser extent. They could have carried over one of the orange G-T asterisks from yesterday's show for the runner-up podium and used the egg crate font for the bids with a black background, and had the showcase description display be yellow again like yesterday.

The color orange was completely absent on the turntable, despite it being one of the primary colors on the turntable during the 80's. The 70's show must have been orange overkill for them or something.

No MG/HS cue. There's always tomorrow, I suppose... :-|

Again, these are very minor gripes I had, and they didn't detract from my enjoyment of the show in the least bit!

Now onto the good! :D

Holy cow, that intro gave me the feels -- even more so than yesterday. The light border was spot on. The classic "Here it comes, television's most exciting hour of fantastic prizes" spiel was in place. The original "Walking" was played. And of course, the classic, simple, all white text "Price is Right" logo came on screen. For a moment, I felt like a kid again! (yes, I'm a child of the 90's, but it was all still the same then, mostly :P)

They're teasing us with these cues, dammit! Yeah, the generic 80's-sounding stuff they mixed in was a bit much, but when they played the classics... Oh man. I can only hope this week is being used as a sort of bridge to slowly reincorporate them back into the rotation, because they still absolutely deserve air time!

They brought back the freakin' Plinko thing!? That was totally unexpected! I halfway thought they would place a monitor on the turntable to emulate the old Plinko sign (or better yet, bring back the sign altogether and use it from now on), but hey, the disco ball thingy dropping from the ceiling is cool, too!

Both cars won and a double showcase winner, to boot. Pretty great follow up to yesterday!

Now onto my favorite decade: the 90's!

Day 2 of Decades Week (I Love The 80s) begins!

THE BAD NEWS:

Now and Then: Nothing but bad luck for Richard, and he was doing so good. At least, he can play some Pac-Man.

THE NOT-SO-BAD NEWS:

Plinko: Nice to see them bringing that disco ball reveal. But Johnnie getting $2100 was better than nothing. When it comes to low cash winnings, I guess some things will never change.

THE GOOD NEWS:

MYM: A "gimme" but great win by Janet!

2FTPO1: Looks like Marie can say "Ich bin ein winner!"

Master Key: I was getting scared for Lisa when I thought she might get the dud. Luckily, she got the car key!

OA: A great job by Lauren! And in addition of the Cruze, she also won both SCs (1st DSW of this season...and it's only DAY TWO!)!

THE BOTTOM LINE:

As Bill and Ted would say, "Excellent!" (guitar riff) More classic cues, trip skins, and gnarly wins! And Rachel with crimped-up 80s hair... Also, Manuela with 80s hair...

Like yesterday, another great job with the 80s show, although (and it might be a nit-pick here), I kinda wish they brought back the original presentation of Master Key.

Now on to the 90s!

My fave decade of all time, and it was a tremendous show.

You couldn't ask for a more awesome ending, like (for you Canadian Football fans) Dave Ridgway's game winning field goal that won the Saskatchewan Roughriders the Grey Cup in 1989 over the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.

Richard heads up on stage to play Now or Then for a $5000 shopping spree on Rodeo Drive, plus limo service and lunch for two at Spago.
Excuse me?  The game used its original name - Now and Then.  ("The version I heard was," Bob commented that a price couldn't be now and then, but one or the other, so it became "Now or Then.")

And note that, in keeping with the 1980s "theme," it would have been a DSW even under the 1980s "less than $100" rule.

Oh, wait, I forgot - if it's the late 1980s, then I'm not supposed to be watching this show... (KPIX in San Francisco didn't air TPIR in the 1980s; it was pre-empted first for its own morning show, then the "Group W Talk Show of the Month", until September of 1991.  The first few years did air on KOFY, usually on a one-day delay.)

This was another great show. Set looked great and the lineup was fantastic.

I do have to say however that it was a huge disappointment that they got all these old cues and did not use 210A for Make Your Move. I'm surprised no one has mentioned it yet. I know other cues were used in the game, but from the early '90s to the time they stopped using old cues altogether, that was the "Make Your Move cue". Such a letdown not to hear it.

Now...and Then was easy for an LFAT. It was clear that the Yuban was an anachronism. I mean, I didn't know they still made that, until I saw it today (well, really in the promo vid, but I didn't pay attention there).

If they were paying attention to detail, it would've been nice for Adam to bring back the original Master Key reveal today. Certainly wouldn't have hurt, especially since they've pulled out Big Banana for the week. I still don't like the fact that they put the two other prizes essentially behind the Key prop. I just don't think it looks good.

Plinko was Plinko, so it was nice that they made it special by bringing out the disco ball. That was a real surprise.

I feel somewhat iffy on the Plinko reveal: using the original reveal method from its first playing is nice, but given the alternative was to bring back the Plinko sign (which was used for the majority of the decade) I suppose "disco ball" was the less expensive route.
But realistically, they could recreate the sign digitally and not have to build a prop. I could recreate the sign with two slides in Powerpoint and a blinds animated transition. It would've been nice if they did that on Door 4.

Great DSW to end the show. Nice to see a Camry on the show again. Those certainly don't show up often.

I was just going to mention that. I noticed it right away.

I was also listening for the 4 classic cues that were used regularly for the small prizes in Plinko (I don't know their names or numbers.). No such luck today.

Also, did anyone think that the sound quality of some of the classic cues was worse than you remember? That's the way I felt about some of them. I hope it wasn't by design: to make them sound dated.

I didn't realize Now (and/or) Then had been played for so long.

Some great wins today (One Away, Master Key, and Double Showcase - "You win BOTH showcases!" [I'll go ahead and quote Bob. :) ]

And wow, I hadn't heard that cue that opened and closed the first showcase in YEARS!! :-) (Sounded like a different mix too.)

I love the '80s!

SteveGavazzi should be happy about today's first PG.  They actually called it "Now... and Then" instead of by its current official name. :-D But seriously, how the hell was Now... and Then lost today?

I'm mad that Big Banana and the original three-prize staging weren't used to introduce Master Key, but it was great to hear one of the classic multiprize cues.  I would have preferred the Phone Home Game cue, but cue 218 is just as good.

Plinko disco ball, Showcase '83 cue, and a sub-$100 DSW!

Yeah, another solid show.

Something else I noticed: they played two of what I like to call "Bonus Game Item" games (where there are a number of items with two, or occasionally three, digit prices) - Plinko, and Master Key.  They did the same thing on the '70s episode (Bonus Game, Cliff Hangers).

Or is having more than one of these games per day not quite as rare as I think?

Such events certainly run rare, but special shows tend to throw out rules like that. Furthermore, we Golden-Road users tend to refer to those games as SP (small prize) games.

Many contestants play by price. The highest price on the board is often NOW, but it was THEN today. Then 1.xx semi-cheapo beets were NOW when many say THEN. Those two across from each other led to the loss.

Some other random thoughts:

I like the light border they've used at the opening of the 70's and 80's show. But I wonder why they aren't just using the one that is being shown as part of the classic clips that are being played on the TVs that are prizes?  (An example from the 80's show would be the Grand Game clip of Pauline.) It looks more like a light border that would have been used in that era. Is it available in 4:3 only, I wonder?

I'm glad that "Walking" was of much higher quality today. I agree with the theory about the sound quality intentionally being poor on the 70's show so that they could emulate what the show sounded like as viewed on a mono-only TV from that era.

I also agree that some of the classic cues sounded less crisp than when they were used regularly on the show. If this is being done intentionally, I'd love to know why.

I don't understand why they didn't continue to use the eggcrate displays on the Showcase podiums today, and why the current logo (and not the recreation of the decade's logo, like on the 70's show) appeared on the display prior to the bids.

Speaking of the logo - seeing the recreated version at the opening (along with the image on Door #4) almost made me want to cry. They were so simple and to the point. I long for the days when the show as a whole was like that instead of trying to be so flashy, with excessive animation and editing, fake applause (or so it seems), and an overall "comedic" feel (even with the contestants). I understand that Drew's background as a comedian has to be taken into account, and I get that the powers-that-be needed to modernize the show, but I just feel like they are trying too hard and go way over the top with the presentation.

I have to admit I was disappointed with Contestants' Row today.  How hard would it have been to bring back the orange display for a day?

I'm also not geeking out over the music as much as I'd like to, because...well, again, it isn't being used in the right spot.  I mean, a trip cue for Make Your Move?

On the other hand, the Plinko intro was pretty cool, given that the sign wasn't available...and they really did pretty much duplicate how the Basket looked.

And the opening...I can't believe it's been six years since the last time we heard, "Television's most exciting hour of fantastic prizes."  I so, so hope they keep that.

Now....and Then was also neat.  Whether they keep it or not (and I somehow doubt they will), it was fun to see the original name back for one day.

Speaking of Now....and Then, did the board look a little different to anyone else today?

I wonder where they got that trip skin.  It didn't look like any of the pictures I remember, but then, it has been a long time since they've used them.

Also the yellow one bid display should of been orange like it was in the '80s.

No, it should have been orange.  "Of" isn't a verb.

Great shows this week, but was a little disappointed that there were no skits in the showcases. The time capsule showcase would have been a good theme to use.

I thought it would have been cool for Drew to have the One Away contestant ask: "Gentlemen (or ladies), do I have at least one number right?" The Mighty Sound Effects Lady didn't show up until decades later, LOL.

The shows this week have been amazing so far and it was definitely a treat to hear old music cues that have been retired since Drew became host.  I thought they still sounded amazing even in 2015. I wish they used more 1980s cues but it was surprising they also used some 1970s cues.

As for the 1980s show: in Now....AND Then I wonder why Richard thought the $3.99 price for that coffee was NOW considering how expensive coffee has gotten the past few years.

Someone also asked about the delay in the horn honk sound on One Away. I wonder if that has to do with the fact the sound effects are now automated instead of keyed by the now gone sound effects lady. I also liked how Drew had Lauren ask if she had all 5 numbers right.

I was also kind of disappointed they didn't use the old Make Your Move prize cue for said game but it was still nice to hear a longer than usual playing of the cue they DID use.

2 for the Price of 1. That trip cue didn't sound quite as good as when it was still used regularly for trips.

Master Key. The cue for the first 2 prizes was a nice surprise. I think the last time it was used on the show was sometime in the 1980s.

Plinko....kudos to the staff for revealing the game the way it was revealed on its debut in 1983, & showing a clip of the game's debut. It would have nicer if they used 1980s cues or the old Plinko SP cues for the SPs.  Too bad the contestant didn't win more money.

Showcases......the cue for the 1st showcase sounded like it was an old 1983 cut that hadn't been used in YEARS.
It was also nice to hear 'Every room in the house' cue again even though it wasn't used for the whole showcase
Also cool to see a Double Showcase Winner even though Adam used the current DSW graphic

It was almost always Gentlemen for the first decade of One Away's existence. There were no ladies running the game until 1995, and of course the mighty sound effects lady came around in 2007.

Was I the only one hoping/expecting Drew to switch to a grey wig after the first SCSD?
I'm sure there have been many others, but Bob's hair didn't turn gray until 1987, and furthermore, the switch you alluded to would've come off as very awkward anyway.
