Show Results: 2 out of 6 (Plinko center spot hit) THIS RECAP IS
PRODUCED SOLELY FOR GOLDEN-ROAD.NET |
Was glad that Paul got to play Bonus Game again.
The only thing I was curious about is apparently it looked like they had a slightly different (and more interesting, in my opinion) intro (which is below posted by priceisright YouTube channel) that was different than the one that made it to air, namely some added graphics at the end of the intro:
Recap won't be up till 6 or 7 tonight. Definitely before Hell's Kitchen tonight.
EDIT: Please, keep the no Bob stuff to a minimum. There is another thread (http://www.golden-road.net/index.php/topic,20055.0.html) for this that was posted in The Talk is Right.
It was awesome to hear George say "Paul Levine, stand up and come on down!" Combining the original spiel and what Johnny Olson developed into the catchphrase of the show was awesome. Although I do wonder if Paul didn't come up on stage, would they still have played Bonus Game? I wonder if the staff was waiting for him to come on up so they could bring out Bonus Game and the 1972 Monte Carlo. Either way, it was awesome to see him play Bonus Game perfectly and win another car (albeit one as old as the Mazda sedan he won back in 1972).They couldn't do that. I'm sure they were planning to play Bonus Game 5th no matter when Paul got onstage. There were three other contestants who made it onstage who also had the opportunity to re-play their original game, but did not. Dazettia (Plinko then, Double Prices now), Kathleen (Grand Game then, Plinko now) and Larry* (Any Number then, Double Cross now). They were going to let the show play out as it played out and by the grace of coincidence, Paul made it up there at the right time.
As Torgo put it in chat, "yes, we're having a lot of fun celebrating the past, but we also have a future".
And quite frankly – I'm glad there was no Yolanda (or "Wheel of Fortune" Terri) for that matter. If one or both of them are dead, they can stay that way. I wouldn't have minded a Vanna White cameo, however ... that would have been nice.
Showcases: I knew both on-stage bids were garfs, but I wasn't expecting the Beetle Showcase to be worth more than the Mustang GT one.OK since I'm not sure, what's a GARF?
OK since I'm not sure, what's a GARF?
GARF is a term used in CSS referring to somebody missing their showcase by over $5000. If they miss it by over $10,000, it's considered a Garf Of The Century.Ouch... that would be quite embarrassing to do on the actual show I bet... even worse would be a Double Overbid with both players getting a Garf of the Century
I wonder how many people were left wondering what that "first item up for bids on The New Price Is Right" was. It's not like Bob's on their good side or will ever be won over. It wouldn't have killed them to show the fur coat.
The only "down-side" to today was that contestants from The Drew Era could not be involved due to eligibility requirements.
Is it me or did they changed the podium for the small prizes in Bonus Game drastically? This happened late last/this season.
Adam, Gwen was not on today, it was Manuela.
That's the just-retired consolation prize cue.

Aired – September 4, 2012; Tape Date – August 20, 2012OOPS - Uliana's shirt had "Monday, August 20, 2012" on it.
Pamela, known for winning an airplane in the Showcase in 1976 on the Dennis James version when she wanted a carThey also threw in flying lessons, IIRC - and those can be expensive.
I am aware of the off-centered numbers in Double Cross. This is a template in new design, and I am using this playing as an excuse to give it a shot. Next time you see said template, the numbers will be accurately placed.I just wanted to say that the new template looks great! I wouldn't have even noticed the off-centered numbers had you not mentioned it. Still, it's much easier to read than the old table-based template.
Excellent show. Really fun and much better than I expected. The lack in clips was made up for by the returning contestants. Grand Game could've been a bit nicer and the showcases shouldn't have been so deceptively loaded, but this was a nice show.
...
**I am extremely disappointed that ClockGameJohn was not invited.
It was nice to know that he was the exact opposite of this:
m no Bob, a pretty good tribute! Now we wait for Season 41........................
*gasp* Did the 2nd showcase actually contain a theme? When was the last time that happened?
OH MY GOD... I had NO IDEA they did a Disco show! I am seriously BOUNCING all over my room grooving out to the AWESOME music and cues and my favorite car cue of all time! I would have LOOOVED to have been there for that taping!!!!!!! !!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!         :oldlol: :oldlol: :oldlol: :oldlol: :oldlol: :oldlol: :PThat was from the Halloween special from this season. The only thing good from that IMHO was the classic cues that we liked.................Everything else just sucked. I shudder to think what Mike will do this Halloween.
Yeah, that's my fault. I kept looking trying to distinguish the two, I kept seeing Gwendolyn.
I'm surprised they played both Bonus Game and Plinko - usually they don't play two games with four (or more) two/three-digit prizes.
But why no Grocery Game?
I'll give credit to Double Cross. Unless the first setup can be correct (which it shouldn't be, but I wouldn't throw it past them), it was pretty hard to lose. Why shouldn't the first setup be correct?
Grand Game: So I see what Mike did here: Since it was the 40th anniversary, he decided to make the game a little special by having Pamela win $40,000, with the target price of $4.00.............Clever. :roll:What was wrong with the target price being $4? I thought it was nice reference. What exactly was wrong with $40,000? The thing I didn't like about it was that it seemed like too much of an increase, even if it was just for one show. Was that it? Was it something else?

The thing I didn't like about it was that it seemed like too much of an increase, even if it was just for one show. Was that it? Was it something else? With that $40,000 grand prize, the standard primetime $20,000 has now been rendered obsolete. And I believe it was a one-time only thing, as was the case when they played Lucky $even with seven $1,000 stacks instead of the normal $1 bills.
As for Drew giving the contestant the Mop N Glow, I believe Drew has done that a few times before--although I might be wrong.
My new question would be, will the new rotating SP podium even make its way into Switcheroo sometime in the future?
With that $40,000 grand prize, the standard primetime $20,000 has now been rendered obsolete.I know the $40,000 was a one-time thing. How does the $40,000 render the $20,000 obsolete?

The new Big Doors look okay. Their new logo does not. Put simply, it's dinky.Gotta agree here. Far too small.
Why shouldn't the first setup be correct?
I'm surprised nobody seems disappointed that there was no Golden Road. You would think a show like this would beg for a playing of it, since its one of the most iconic pricing games.
I was going to ask if they were ever going to give another one way - then I went to the Piper website and saw that the cheapest plane they sell today (and it's a single-engine prop) goes for over $300,000! That's over ten times the price 30 years ago.I managed to find the prices for Cessnas on that company's site, and they do have one (what they call a "starter plane") for $150,000, but still, that explains why they never appear on the show any more.
Perhaps, but is Grand Game so special that they had to play it in place of Grocery Game? Or did somebody think GG just wasn't a fit for this episode if they couldn't get Janice or Anitra behind the cash register? But why no Grocery Game? There's a scheduling rule that says there can't be more than one GP game in the same show. They can get away with using two SP games, but not two GP ones.
I certainly remembered Larry's first appearance.
...Larry still remains energetic and did good on the newest game!
Double Cross: Larry is still fun to watch after his "You're Bob, I'm Larry" moment from back in '99.
Larry is the definition of redemption on The Price is Right. He won a stemware collection worth $736 in Any Number on his first appearance in 1999, but he lost the showcase showdown. Today, he won Double Cross, the showcase showdown, and the showcase, including a new car to make up for the truck he didn't win 13 years ago...
Larry was something else. I think he might have been the most cumbersome contestant Drew has had to deal with. He was all over the place in his original appearance because Bob was old. Since Drew is young he was all over him!
...Also, he played the first pricing game to debut on his previous appearance and played the most recent pricing game to debut today.
I'm not sure if anyone has pointed this out yet, but Larry is probably the only contestant who played the oldest game on the show on his first appearance, and the newest game on the show at the time of his second appearance. I just thought that was interesting.
Larry also redeemed himself in the Showcase Showdown in another sense, goldroadfanatic; IIRC, he didn't get the Big Wheel all the way around on his first attempt back in 1999 (though I may have to check on that…).
