You know what they say. "You can't fool the Fingers." That's been the case with Shawntal on the red podium today, upstaged by poor bidders and even a one-time stoner. Now she's at risk. If she does fail with the last bid advantage, at least Kathy (who asked for the last contestant) will escort her to the mugshot machine for her date with First Four Wall of Shame infamy on her way out.

The second showcase was thought up in secret as a surprise for Kathy. The earlier rehearsal with her present was a fake showcase. Personally, just for laughs, I'd love to know what that fake second showcase was. The honor featured clips of her in an earlier showcase in her honor in 1978, her modelling the Dining Room Group of Doom in 1994, and her dancing with Drew in a Christmas episode in 2007. During the closing credits, they brought out a cake.

Show Results: 2 out of 6

A very fitting farewell to Kathy from a technical and planning standpoint. The second showcase was awesome.

Now, if only Kathy's games were won....

I'm glad to see the showcase was won, though.

Here's to ya, Fingers. To 35 years of memories! :pint:

Now, not to rain on the parade, and I know its all in the past, but it does frustrate me immensely that Kathy gets a lavish send off while :clipboard: got kicked to the curb. Sometimes there's no justice in this world...

The grand total didn't include the $60 popcorn popper won in Secret X; it's $59333(not counting the Master Key car). The Eurostyle dinette set has not been on the show yet, nor has the Swann home security system, as per searching this site.

The end of an era... Fingers' last show.

Yay!  Master Key!  With a cue that doesn't suck!  And a winner!

The Kathy Greco showcase is one of the best showcases we've seen all season, which is probably not saying much given that most of the showcases this season have sucked.  Great to see it won, although I don't know what year Jagruti is living in with a bid like that.

Now, not to rain on the parade, and I know its all in the past, but it does frustrate me immensely that Kathy gets a lavish send off while :clipboard: got kicked to the curb. Sometimes there's no justice in this world...

I couldn't agree with you more.

To repeat Drew's closing, "God bless you, Kathy Greco!"  Thank you for your 35 years of hard work, dedication, and evil PG setups.

Oh, wait!  I forgot about my showcase bids!

Camaro--$32,507
(for the final time...) GRECO, DAMMIT!--$50,507

What a great farewell to Kathy! That was nice that the games that she had invented were played on today's show. And her Showcase was awesome! Glad to see someone win it.

Farewell, Fingers! Enjoy your retirement.

Well, this was a fun show. I feel all the Greco references were slightly overdone (Drew giving attribution to Kathy for a game she didn't create, Master Key, being chief among those) but I REALLY liked the 2nd showcase (great way to integrate lots of clips in) and I also liked that the second half consisted of all 3 of Greco's pricing games! I found it strangely fitting that in Greco's final game, the X was on the bottom - just had to Greco one final contestant!

Gameplaywise, this was pretty average. They really let up on the setups except for Secret X, so it was nice to see Master Key and Pick A Pair get won, and then another BMW won at the end! I agree with those who say it seems unfair to have a show like today when The Dob got kicked to the curb, but at the same time I feel like right now the show doesn't get in touch with its history nearly enough, and so we should take anything we can get. This was a cool show to see.

Timings:
Switch? (3.5) - 2:47
Coming Or Going (3.5)- 2:38
Master Key (5) - 5:32
Pick A Pair (4.5) - 4:00
Line 'em Up (5.5)- 4:12
Secret X (4.5) - 4:17
Total (26.5): 23:26

What a great send off for Fingers Greco!

I thought the lineup was going to be horrible after the first two games. Then they surprised me by having Greco games (although Master Key is questionable) all the way through. My thought with Master Key was Roger came up with the concept and maybe Greco put her two cents in on the "Key-earning" portion and Roger liked it. That's why she thinks she had nothing to do with its creation.

Great to see Master Key won. I like MGHS, but why does it seem that's the only classic car cue they play anymore. I always liked the one that started with the blaring trumpets (both Big Banana and the other one I don't know the name of). And there are many more cues that don't sound dated. It only sounds dated to them because of the label on the tape.

What a fitting way for PAP to be won.

Line 'Em Up was ehh and too bad.

And Secret X was "One last time, Fingers?"

That second showcase was tear-jerking. Great to see all those clips. However it would have been better seeing her do the Gator from the 80's instead of 2007 because she was younger then. I guess Mike wanted no Barker clips and since you can see him in that one it was scrapped. Glad that showcase was won.

Bye Bye Fingers!!!

Kitch, Fingers has done 6,618 shows, not 6,881.  (Still less than either Bob or Roger, I'm happy to say.)

Incidentally, this is really not Fingers's last show.  Next Tuesday's was taped out of order in December.  (She didn't produce yesterday's, though, so the numbers still come out right.)

It's kind of goofy to say that you "want to start things off big" and then play Switch?.

Coming or Going was pretty damn mean.

I get that they put Master Key and Secret "X" in the same show because Fingers created them both...but I really don't get it, because Master Key was created by Frank Wayne.

Drew "really wanted a win for Kathy" in Secret "X".  Uh, maybe it would have helped if Kathy had made Secret "X" winnable... :rollold:

The second showcase was really creative and very classy.  It might be the best showcase they've done since the beginning of Season 37.

It really rubs me the wrong way that Fingers got all this special treatment for a whole show, even having a showcase dedicated to her, while Roger, who, frankly, was far, far more instrumental to the show's success than she was, got nothing.

Uh, they most certainly did air the clip from the '80s.  I'm not really sure how you could miss the Pricedown dollar signs on the Big Wheel.

If Roger wasn't fired from the show, then they might have given Roger a similar send-off.

Yay Jagruti! Campbell is only about 45 minutes from here.

Very nice tribute to Fingers... no matter what everyone thinks of the show nowadays, the fact is that she's still a longtime member of the TPIR family and has been there since almost the beginning. I hope she has a wonderful retirement. :-)

BEST CONTESTANT OF THE DAY: Lucas
SHOW GRADE: 3

If Roger wasn't fired from the show, then they might have given Roger a similar send-off.
That's what I say. Not that this makes it fair, but it's all because both situations had very different endings.

Just to add to this, Holly, Janice and Kathleen did not get any proper goodbyes because they were all fired. Dian was able to say goodbye, but that was because she quit and all the crap didn't hit the fan about Dian and Bob until after.

Well, I'm still blind 8-)

I missed the shot on the television...actually didn't realize that was the clip even though she was wearing the orange shirt. I turned away after they opened the door and before she did the Gator. It was for a few seconds and by the time I turned back they had the clip of her modeling the dinning room. So I assumed they were running back the clips they showed on the monitor (Mistake 1). Interesting to note is that they still cut out Bob, one could say it was for time.

And what interesting names today...

Nice send off for Fingers :) It was touching too, that Drew nearly lost it introducing the second showcase. You could hear his voice cracking in those last few words. Very obvious a lot of admiration between Drew and Kathy.

Finger's was genuinely surprised. Her eyes just about popped outta her head.. hahaha  :oldlol:

The 7,390th episode (88th for Season 39)

Master Key
Dinette - $2,250
Small Appliances - $590
Scion tC - $19,995

Showcase #1
Jukebox - $4,996
Trip to New York - $5,885
Chevrolet Camaro - $23,855

My bid:  $32,692 (Difference of $2,044)

That's $44 better than the showcase where I bid $54K on last night.

Showcase #2
Federal Reserve Notes - $6,618
Plasma TV - $1,699
BMW 328i - $37,700 :pint:

My bid:  $46,518 (D'oh!)

Had I had a 0 in the middle of the bid, I would have yelled "D'OH!" out loud after a $1 overbid, but no.  I was over by $501.

Your Modeling Scorecard for January 27, 2011
Rachel Reynolds
Total:  7/$39,804 (3/$8,824, 4/$30,980)
Cars:  1/$19,269 (0/$0, 1/$19,269)

Manuela Arbeláez
Total:  8/$54,480 (3/$39,539, 5/$14,941)

Cars:  1/$23,855 (0/$0, 1/$23,855)
Trips:  1/$6,990 (1/$6,990, 0/$0)

If I had put #5415K back in order, I have noticed that Gwendolyn had modeled the most dollars for seven episodes in a row, including sweeping this week!

And for the season
Rachel Reynolds (89 shows)
Total:  853/$4,572,674 (519/$2,015,248, 334/$2,557,425)

Trips:  52/$430,597 (32/$270,763, 20/$159,834)

Fingers
If Kathy did 6,618 episodes, here's how I got October 22, 1975 as her first episode:  7,390 episodes (up to now) - 6,618 of Kathy's (excluding #58XXD and #1513X) + 1 = 773rd episode.

Drew was way off his game today. I think the Kathy theme of the show overwhelmed him... or maybe he was genuinely rattled by her leaving, but his explanations of the games was bad today. Master Key, in particular, was a mess. He didn't mention the dud key in the instructions, and I swear he picked the wrong key for the second prize. I think the contestant pointed at the next to last key, but Drew picked up the last key.

Not sure if the irony was intentional, but the last game that Drew *really* wanted won had the most difficult setup possible, with the X in the bottom row.

Was I the only who thought that Jagrudi was completely clueless? Good for her that Shawntal overbid her showcase because that BMW was not meant to be won.

P.S. Evidently, the PTB have decided to whitewash all memory of Bob. To edit him out of the classic Greco clips was a petty move.

The tribute video was about Kathy.. not Bob, not Roger, not Janice... Kathy. No need to insert anyone else in there.

Besides, they most like would have had to pay Bob a royalty for using video of him.

Yes, but they found room to include Drew in the clips, even though she and Drew only worked together for three and a half years.

That'd be Frank Greco, seeing as how Frank Wayne has been dead for 22 years.

Yes, but they found room to include Drew in the clips, even though she and Drew only worked together for three and a half years.

Your point is....???????????

I figure Bob is edited out over the royalty thing, look at how they made damn sure he wasn't in those clips with "Cynthia" that won the car last year. Remember when they found the clip of her being on the show in the 70s they played during the big wheel, Bob was edited out of that also. Gotta be the reason

Sad to see Kathy go, and quite frankly, Drew overdid just a bit. I thought he was promoting Sadie Hawkins day, for crying out loud

Secret X expected to be won? I think not.
Master Key, good to see it's still in the rotation and can be won. Seems like we get wins with this having one of the keys as a dud, weird

Who cares about all the other games. Truly gonna miss Kathy and they nailed her good with a surprise. You can tell nobody leaked it out, and it was great

Two words: "Personality rights"

That'd be Frank Greco, seeing as how Frank Wayne has been dead for 22 years.

Not if it was Usenet, they'd swear his corpse was there(ah, that part of the internet should be burned down and forgotten)

Your point is...
Royalties? No, they want people to associate Price with Drew now more than anything.

I only saw the Showcase (thanks to Wayoshi and his youtube page), and I thought it was a nice send-off.

I was actually surprised that Drew didn't comment (as he loves to do) on the Showcase winner pricing the BMW + the TV at just a touch more than $23,300.

So everyone on staff got one of those "Salute to that Great Member of Our Staff" showcases in the mid-70s?

Second showcase was the best they've done in a very long time.

Nice sendoff for Kathy...2 SP games in the same show, and the entire second half featuring games created by her (Pick-a-Pair, Line em Up, Secret "X"). I had a bad feeling that the Camaro Showcase was overbid on a bit.

SN: I'm sure that I'm not the only one, but did anybody else expect Check-Out to be played on this show, since Kathy also created that game?

Well, you know, that's perfectly acceptable considering he's been the host now for nearly 5 years.

I'm not quite sure why anybody finds this unacceptable... you generally don't promote the old to promote the new.

No one's been able to find any data on what's airing tomorrow, even with the photo site giving production numbers.  It may very well just be a rerun.

What's a photo site? Where is it at?

I'm gonna be nit-picky, for once, but if you're gonna go a Kathy Greco appreciation day, announce it before the item up for bids, not right before playing the Pricing Game.

That being said, I thought it was a great send-off, and Kathy got a good surprise with the special tribute showcase.

One thing I have to say ... In the last frew weeks (years?) there were people questionning whether Drew cares about the show or not! While I won't say that Drew cares about the show as much as Bob, Roger or Kathy did, the emotion he showed prior, and even more after the tribute showcase shows that he does care, probably more than we thought! Hell, Drew couldn't even speak after the showcase, it took him forever to ask for the bid.

It really rubs me the wrong way that Fingers got all this special treatment for a whole show, even having a showcase dedicated to her, while Roger, who, frankly, was far, far more instrumental to the show's success than she was, got nothing.

I understand you point, but let's be real, Steve! You brought the "if it was a regular job, Drew would be fired" argument, the other day, and it applies here too! If someone gets fired after 36 years, no matter the reason, they won't do a retirement party. Kathy left on her own accord! Besides, what do you tell Roger? "Yeah, we fired you, but please come back for a tribute!" ?

Happy retirement, Kathy!  Thanks for everything!

I know this website is particularly sour towards the firing of the DOB, and yes it is completely unfair...but let's not let what happened in July '08 lower our enjoyment / farewells.

I must say, I liked the episode was centered around Fingers.  It was neat to see how much the staff did for her to wish her a happy retirement.  (And having two SP games was pretty neat, too!)  Thanks for all the fun over the years Kathy, and I wish you the best in your restful retirement.

This episode was truly a celebration of Finger's 35 wonderful years at Price.

Now if it were Mike's last show, it would just be a celebration...

If Roger wasn't fired from the show, then they might have given Roger a similar send-off.

I'm fully aware of this.  That doesn't mean it doesn't piss me off.

Very obvious a lot of admiration between Drew and Kathy.

The only thing Drew might admire Fingers for is not trying to get him to do things the right way like Roger did.  She hasn't really done a whole hell of a lot of producing in the last two and a half years.

I understand you point, but let's be real, Steve! You brought the "if it was a regular job, Drew would be fired" argument, the other day, and it applies here too! If someone gets fired after 36 years, no matter the reason, they won't do a retirement party.

Actually, they did.  I've seen the pictures.

Actually, they did.  I've seen the pictures.

They did have a retirement party for Roger (and I too have seen the pictures... just look on his facebook if you're friends with him).

Obviously, it was after he knew he wasn't coming back, which was after the season had wrapped -- they're obviously not going to have an on-air tribute to the guy, though, since he was effectively fired.

Okay, quick question, and I'm only asking because I could not find these in the TPiR timeline in the FAQ area.

Which episode featured the original salute to Kathy Greco in 1978?

Which episodes did Kathy model on in 1994?

In which episode did Kathy dance with Drew? I know from the set that it was Season 36, so it's the first half of 2007.

I don't believe it ever made it to air... heck, I think the only reason we found out about it was because somebody was at that taping and mentioned it here or on YouTube.

A)Unknown...it wouldn't surprise me if it was around the time of Roger's.
B)Potentially April 21.

They should have had Frank model some golf clubs for a one-bid!

Sorry I'm just now getting to this.

I have to admit that they should've placed Master Key as the second game. Having two quickies in the first slot was a no-no because the segment wound up ending at about 11:05 where it usually ends at 11:08

What a nice win in Master key though! Did anyone else actually get confused and thinking a new game was going to be played when Drew was saying that they occasionally have "new game meetings" and Kathy had a small portion for inventing this one?

How did I know Secret X was going to be played last? Boy that game actually built up some suspense when the middle column nearly got stuck as it was coming around. It was also weird that Kathy didn't set the game up for a win since it was her last show. Oh well.

Now here is one area that nobody ever seems to throw Drew a bone for. I know a lot of you think he's a terrible host, but one thing I have to give him credit for is his character. He seems always try to make not only the cast, but the off-camera crew feel apart of the show. Bob wasn't always the greatest in the later years of the show of making it seem like a family show. Drew always try to interact a little with the models and announcers. When Bob started having all of these lawsuits he became the type of game show host that Summer Bartholomew said Pat wasn't this type of host where "I'm the host and you stand over there". Even though Drew can pound things into the ground throughout the show, he did a great job of recognizing Kathy for her departure and achievements for the show. It was also kind of cool how this showcase reminded me of a showcase from way back when entitled, "Janice Pennington, THIS is your Strife!" I even loved the look Kathy had when Drew told her it was a fake showcase they rehearsed. She almost looked like Janice too when she was surprised.

It's all right, it was a rerun.

One note - during Pick-a-Pair, when the first product was lifted up, Drew made some sort of noise not unlike the Penny Ante SFX. Wonder what that was about.

I agree, during the showcase, he almost looked like he wanted to break down and cry, but re composed himself, unless he did break down and it was edited.   She is dearly missed on the show.

A few folks thought maybe she did it on purpose for her 'real' fans. She's known for setting games up for loses, why not go out on a forced loss?

I like to think the show was hoping someone who knew her would get picked from the audience that day and would have out-Greco'd her. But I guess they only had run-of-the-mill contestants.

One thing is for sure, if *I* had been on that stage, *I* would have known that X was at the bottom! I called it as soon as the game came out.
