Title: Coupon Boy's Price is Right Episode 1
Post by: Coupon Boy on January 31, 2015, 11:03:43 PM
Here we go. It's America's biggest game show: Coupon Boy's Price is Right!

(cue: )

Nice to see you, to see you........

* audience is stumped as none of them remember Bruce Forsyth * :P

You guys are worse than the crowd that I had 20 years ago.  :P

Anyway, I will use the half hour you all are familiar with. I tried to bring the European half hour format to the HYO section, but management vetoed against that. :-(  Sign-ups are open for the next 72 hours. Also, everyone participating is invited to guess what 3 pricing games I will use, and anyone who guesses at least 2 out of the 3 pricing games correctly is GUARANTEED a spot in contestant's row as one of the first 4 contestants. In addition, the top winner in this show will be guaranteed a spot in the Million Dollar Spectacular I am planning to host at the end of the year provided that the person signs up for it.

Turn about is fair play. I'll play. I'll go with the first three games ever played on TPIR:

Any Number
Bonus Game

Also, I can confirm that The Coupon Game, the original game that I proposed a few days ago, will NOT be played in this episode, though it will most certainly be played in the next show I host given the positive feedback it received.

Great stuff. I already 6 eligible contestants signed up (sorry Archstered :-(), but I'll keep sign ups open for another 24 hours as promised.

However, to reward the "early birds" that already signed up, I can tell you that NONE of you guessed any of the pricing games I have planned correctly. You all may resubmit your predictions if you wish.

And that's our panel decided, then.

Now, it will be nice to meet the stars of the show, whoever they are:

guitarkidTJ, come on down!

Brandon23, come on down!

corneliuscarter, come on down!

And SuperSweeper, come on down!!

You are the first four contestants on Coupon Boy's Price is Right.

*skips usual contestant chat for obvious reasons*

Now, which one of you is going to take this home?

It’s 4 pairs of designer Sunglasses. Offering full UV protection, this Marc by Marc Jacobs ladies collection includes a pair of aviators and 3 sheik oversized styles.

Each of you will make a bid on that item, and the person who is closest to the Actual Retail Price without going over wins that item, and I do hope you're going to join in at home.

Bidding Order:

guitarkidTJ
Brandon23
corneliuscarter
SuperSweeper

(Note: Only one player guessed a pricing game correctly, and that person got the most advantageous position in the contestant line-up as a reward.)

guitarkidTJ, you're first. Make a bid.

Coupon Boy, before you proceed further, you may want to view this (http://www.golden-road.net/index.php?topic=24390.msg424212) thread first.
Title: Re: Coupon Boy's Price is Right Episode 1: Sign-ups
Post by: Coupon Boy on February 03, 2015, 11:28:34 PM
I don't see it anywhere in the HYO rules that you have to be 13 to play, and guitarkidTJ meets all the other requirements, so I'd be discriminatory not to let him play.

...it's the law. Federal law acts as sort of an appellate court to the rules of an individual page. I may not be the moderator of this section, but I am on the site in general. Staff order from me, and at least one other mod: He can not be called down, nor bids accepted, or anything of the sort.

To clarify though, it should be said that this isn't against the user in question at all, this is all about his age. I cannot use his name in normam iuris.

And this user has just been banned. You now need a new contestant, as you did regardless of this action, though you could have not followed my word, if you had so been inclined.

Brandon23: $450

JustBecause: $600

corneliuscarter: $545

SuperSweeper: $546

That's shady, SuperSweeper.

*crowd BOOs SuperSweeper*

(For those who don't know the reference, Leslie Crowther said that at least once when a contestant $1 upped another contestant on the original UK version.)

Anyways, the actual price we were looking for is.....

$549

........and SuperSweeper is the winner!!

Now, SuperSweeper, your shady bid has earned you the opportunity to win this prize:

It's a new car!!!

This fiat 500 pop hatchback is worth $16,995.

Now, SuperSweeper, there are two reasons why that car had an unusually short plug. First, the Fiat manufacturing company refused to give us any money to plug their vehicle; second, you don't need to know the price of that car at all, as we're playing Hole in One!

Now all you have to do is putt that ball in the hole to win the car.  But you can get one line closer to the hole if you know about the small items we have. Also if you place all the items from  least to most expensive you will put from the closest line and get a $500 bonus. Let's hear about those 6 items:

First up, it's a bottle of Annie’s vinaigrette dressing.

Next, a box of diner style Hungry Jack hash browns.

3.3 fluid onces of Nivea post shave balm.

A pound of oven-roasted sliced turkey.

80 multivitamin caplets formulated for teens.

And finally, a 3.5 container of cesar dog food.

SuperSweeper, please order those items from least expensive to most expensive.

(Fyi, once your position is determined, you'll give me 2 numbers between 1 and 7 to determine whether or not you sink the shot. Putting from line 1 will give you a 1 in 7 chance of getting the ball in, putting from line 2 will give a 2 in 7 chance and so on. )

Title: Re: Coupon Boy's Price is Right Episode 1: Segment 1

I'll go dog food/potatoes/dressing/turkey/balm/vitamins, please.
Title: Re: Coupon Boy's Price is Right Episode 1: Segment 1
Post by: Coupon Boy on February 05, 2015, 07:17:46 PM
The dog food is worth.........

$0.99

That's a great start. I think you're safe now with the next selection. How much are the Hash Browns worth?

$1.49

Just about the price range we wanted. What is the retail price of that dressing?

$3.79

YIKES, that's quite a jump. 8-O :-( Hopefully Turkey is an expensive commodity nowadays.....................

$4.49

...........and it is.

Will the shave balm bring you one step closer to the hole?

$8.99

Oh boy, another big jump. :-? Those better be some expensive vitamins............................... ....

$11.99

...........and they are. 8-O 8-O

Not only do you get to put on the closest line to the hole, but also get a Benny Bonus of $500.

SuperSweeper, you already turned most of the audience against you with your earlier. If you miss this, good luck trying to get out of this studio alive.  :P

(Please choose 2 number between 1 and 7 to determine whether or not you get each of your two putts in. Remember, as you are on line 6 you have a 6 out of 7 chance of making each putt, which means you only have roughly a 2% chance of losing this game.)

*SuperSweeper makes his putt, and it easy goes in the hole!*

*ding ding ding ding ding ding ding ding ding ding ding ding ding ding ding ding ding ding ding ding ding ding ding ding *

Congratulations, SuperSweeper: You're today's first big winner! And I'm pretty sure you will able to continue your winning ways later on in the Showcase. For now, though, you can play around with your new car.

(Note: SuperSweeper's win was never in doubt, as 3 was the number designated as a WIN on all 6 lines in the first putt. Had he needed it, his 2nd putt would've been a win on the 6th line only.)

Now I hope our next contestant continues this trend of winning, winning, and winning. And that person is..........

CheckGameMeBob, come on down!!!!!!!!!

You''re the next contestant on Coupon Boy's Price is Right.

Become to contestant's row, Bob. Now, look what Rachel has that one of you will win:

It's a new pool table!

CheckGameMeBob: $1,869

Brandon23: $1,000

JustBecause: $2,600

corneliuscarter: $1,299

*clang clang clang clang clang clang*

That sound means that one of you bid the exact price of that pool table, and that person will win a Benny Bonus of $500. The actual retail price of that pool table is..........

$2,600

.........which means JustBecause is the winner.

Now, JustBecause, just because I like your style, I will give you the chance to win all 3 of these prizes:

A new scooter, an HD TV, and a selection of hand bags!!!

First, this Honda metropolitan motor scooter features a 49 cc engine and lockable storage capacity.

Second, over by Manuela, this 60 inch LG smart HD TV is equipped with a triple XD engine, built in WIFI and a full web browser.

And finally, this patent leather croc and posse collection includes one satchel plus a cross body bag and a convertible clutch with gold tone hardware.

Now, JustBecause, we're playing a VERY simple game called Most Expensive. To win all 3 of those prizes, all you have to do is tell which of them has the highest actual retail price. Which of those items do you think is Most Expensive?
Title: Re: Coupon Boy's Price is Right Episode 1: Segment 2
Post by: JustBecause on February 06, 2015, 05:16:40 PM
I'm going to say...the motor scooter
Title: Re: Coupon Boy's Price is Right Episode 1: Segment 2
Post by: Coupon Boy on February 06, 2015, 05:38:07 PM
You think that the motor scooter is the most expensive. Let's see the price of the TV:

$1,400

I think you're safe there. What is the price of all those handbags?

$2,900

Now, this is completely up in the air. :-? Let's hope that's a top of the range motor-scooter:

$1,999

*BUZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ*

*losing horns play*

I'm sorry JustBecause, but you still have the pool table AND $500, which may very well be enough to see you through to tonight's showcase.

Now, we have time for just one more contestant, and that lucky person is:

bigblue999, come on down!!!!!!!!!!!

You're the next contestant on Coupon Boy's Price is Right.

Now, this is everyone's last chance to earn their way on stage, so please pay attention to the description of this lovely prize:

It's a ping-pong table!

Interestingly enough, I originally planned for a washer & dryer worth $1,898 to be the 3rd item instead of the handbags, but I had to change it to an item whose price wasn't so close to the motor scooter per Jordan18's insistence. :-(

bigblue999: $900

corneliuscarter: $999

CheckGameMeBob: $549

Brandon23: $1,050

And the actual number we were looking for is:

$1,150

Brandon23, please come and join me!

Now, you were very close to not making it on stage, but the worry will be certainly be worth it, as you now have a chance to win up to $25,000 playing Punch-a-Bunch!!!

Now, in this game, you're trying to earn chances to punch our punch-board here. On our punch-board are cash amounts between $100 and $25,000 (yes, using the same distribution the daytime version currently uses). However, to earn those punches you have to know about these small prizes. Let's here about the first prize:

This Breville pie maker features an easy to clean non-stick surface.

$100

Now, I can tell you that $100 is NOT the price of that item. To earn your first punch, is the price of that item higher or lower than $100?
Title: Re: Coupon Boy's Price is Right Episode 1: Segment 3
Post by: Bandon23 on February 08, 2015, 01:43:38 PM
Lower.
Title: Re: Coupon Boy's Price is Right Episode 1: Segment 3
Post by: Coupon Boy on February 08, 2015, 02:04:59 PM
Lower?

HIGHER
  $150

And that is why I always buy pies at the store. :P

That's OK, though, as you can still earn 3 punches, and you only need one punch to get the $25,000 top prize. Let's now here about that espresso maker:

You can make lattes, cappuccinos and more with this 1100 watt retro espresso maker.

$150

For your first punch, is the price of that espresso maker higher or lower than $150?
Title: Re: Coupon Boy's Price is Right Episode 1: Segment 3

I don't want this to be higher, so lower again.
Title: Re: Coupon Boy's Price is Right Episode 1: Segment 3
Post by: Coupon Boy on February 09, 2015, 09:26:22 AM
Lower?

LOWER
 $100

You've earned your first punch. Now, let's try for your second punch with this prize:

You can enjoy a morning jog or evening walk with this pedometer.

$20

Is the price of that pedometer higher or lower than $20?
Title: Re: Coupon Boy's Price is Right Episode 1: Segment 3
Post by: Bandon23 on February 09, 2015, 11:54:38 AM
Higher. The lower is not possible.
Title: Re: Coupon Boy's Price is Right Episode 1: Segment 3
Post by: Coupon Boy on February 09, 2015, 12:07:17 PM
Higher Brandon23 says with 100% certainty..................

LOWER
  $10

..........and unfortunately pedometers have gotten a LOT cheaper since you last shopped for one. :-(

That's OK, though, as long as you get a 2nd punch with this last item:

This kitchen scale weighs ingredients up to 11 pounds.

$60

Is the price of that little scale higher or lower than $60?

*Brandon punches a hole in the middle of the board*

Just to increase the tension, you currently are the lowest winner on this half hour show. In order for you to overtake JustBecause and make it to the showcases, this slip needs to be worth at least $2,500.

$2,500

Congratulations, Brandon23. Not only have you won $2,500, which is a good result from this game, but you've also secured yourself a spot in the showcase.

And we'll be looking at both of today's famous showcases after this message.

(Note: Hole #18 had the $25,000. Also, despite all of the amounts being allocated completely at random, holes 48, 49, and 50 all had $5,000. 8-O )

(Disclaimer: Allocations for both the Hole in One putts and the Punch-a-Bunch amounts were decided at random before the show began using random.org and were verified by Jordanar18.)

Our top winner today is SuperSweeper, and our runner-up is Brandon23.

Now, I'm about to show both of you a showcase filled with fabulous prizes. SuperSweeper, you must then decide whether to bid on that showcase or pass it to Brandon23 and wait for the second showcase. The person who is closest to the actual retail price of his showcase wins that showcase. However, if you are the winner and you are within $500 (NOT a typo) of the price of your showcase, you will win BOTH showcases!!

Now, let's see the first showcase:

Today's first showcase allows you to kick back and have fun in the water, starting with this new hot tub.

This hot tub features 28 jet ports and a high performing water cleaning system. Live beautifully, relax completely, from Beachcomber.

Next, we want you to have a week's worth of fun in the water on your Trip to Cancun.

You and a guest will fly round trip coach from Los Angeles to Cancun, Mexico for a 5 night all inclusive stay in a superior deluxe room at the Beach Palace. Featuring contemporary Mexican design, this sheik resort is a short walk from Cancun’s bustling night-life.

And finally, to help you have fun in the open water, how about a new sea-doo!

This Sea Doo GTI 130 personal watercraft features 1,494 CC engine and electric start. Trailer included.

So it's a hot tub, a trip to Cancun and and a new sea-doo, and it can all be yours if the Price is Right!

SuperSweeper, do you want to bid on that showcase to pass it to Brandon23?

Now SuperSweeper, take a look at your showcase.

Your showcase takes you to Manuela's family tree, where she one day discovered that she had a long lost twin sister in Germany. So, she decided to connect with her German heritage by making some frankfurters and serving them on this hot dog cart.

This Cambro Camcruiser vending cart features insulated food storage compartments that will keep food hot or cold for hours. Its counter wells and closed storage compartments can each hold up to four full size 6" deep food pans.

Next, Manuela decided to visit her long lost sister, on a trip to Berlin!

You and a guest will fly round trip coach from Los Angeles to Berlin, Germany for a 6 night stay at a 5 star hotel surrounded by famous sites and top attractions. Plus, dive into the history of this city during your guided insider walking tour.

And finally, Manuela plans to show off her German heritage to others by ridding a new Volkswagen Beetle.

It’s the Volkswagen Beetle Convertible R-Line, which features a 2.4 liter turbo charged engine, 6 speed automatic transmission, wind deflectors, storage shelves, and Bluetooth.

And this showcase, in which Manuela introduced the punch buggy game in Germany :P, can be yours if the price is right!

SuperSweeper, I'm sure the audience can't wait to see you with that punch buggy, especially corneliuscarter. :P

What is your bid on that showcase?
