Title: FULL RECAP - TPiR Bob Barker Celebration Special 05/17/2007
Post by: Joe_Capitano on May 18, 2007, 01:27:33 AM

TPiR Presents A Celebration of Bob Barker's 50 Years on Television - Taped April 17, 2007

Bob: stage entrance

First Four lineup: right to left

Handoff: Gabrielle

Models of the Day: Lanisha Cole, Rachel Reynolds and Gabrielle Tuite

Wearing: Dina Bar-el

Tonight's show will feature an old-school Price format (no wheel - top 2 through to the Showcase Round) and loads of juicy clips and memories, many not seen since their original playing. Even more that could have been shown left out only due to lack of time. Between games, mostly in order of appearance:

 • How contestant have expressed their love for Barker.
 • Clips from "Truth (BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!) or Consequences", the show that introduced Barker to America. Ralph Edwards was right.
 • A clip from "Bonanza" in which Barker is a "Cowboy Romeo" courting a certain Miss Connie.
 • Those funny little falls, faints, spills and mishaps that just don't get edited out. OK, the faint wasn't all that funny.
 • A brief speech from Les Moonves that gets a big reaction from the Peanut Gallery.
 • Barker recalling the path to tonight in his own words.
 • "Dance Fever", Price is Right style
 • How contestants show their gratitude toward Barker after winning something.
 • THE Clip from "Happy Gilmore" followed by a visit from actor/comedian/punching bag Adam Sandler, who reads a poem (This segment explains why the show carried a "PG-L" rating for the first time ever)
 • How contestants demonstrated their gratitude - from hugs to kisses to his adventures with Samoans, real and imagined.

...and, O'course, Yolanda.

Oh, yes. They did play some games...

Well... where do we start on a show like tonight's?  Maybe Bob beating up Adam Sandler!  Certainly Adam's best movie, far as I'm concerned.  Me, biased?  Nah....  I was a bit surprised and pleased that, while the clip was edited for time, it wasn't edited for content!  Liked Adam's poem, too!  And nice to finally see the "ringside seat" line from all the promos in context!

And the other clips were also nice.  The little "history of Bob" thingy during the third segment had me tear up a little... just nice.  And the clips from Truth or Consequences were nice, and the clips from The Price is Right... kinda' nostalgic, and amusing at times.  My little sister seemed to get a kick out of Bob beating up on poor Squeeze Play.  And Adam Sandler too, for that matter!

And now, onto the gameplay:  even if it's meant to be a hard game, tonight show's that Triple Play can be made surprisingly easy when Roger really wants it to be.  Probably at least one reason Triple Play was played tonight instead of Golden Road, which would be pretty danged hard to make guessing the 4-digit prize too easy.

Speaking of Triple Play, they used the regular dings instead of the clangs and whoops when it was won.  I hope that was just a mistake tonight, and not a permanent change.  I mean, Triple Play needs whatever advantages over Golden Road it can get (http://www.angelfire.com/la3/goldenroad15/misc/smile2.txt)
They played Plinko.  No surprise.  They played Half Off.  I can't tell you how very much that shocked me.  Never ever ever [insert a gazillion more evers] would I have expected Half Off to show up tonight.  I cannot believe Roger did that... but I guess he did.  Wow... I mean, I'd have guessed Grand Game to be infinitely more likely to show up.  I was not expecting Grand Game, but compared to Half Off (or Punchy for that matter), a virtual lock.  Just... wow, again!

Basically, it all means I don't even care that I don't particularly care for any of the three games played tonight.  Any lineup with two cash SPs, especially when it's a half hour format, is automatic win!

And why not, heels?  Nicole (http://www.angelfire.com/la3/goldenroad15/misc/smile1.txt)

Tonight's show, despite the half hour format, worked surprisingly well and was much improved from last night.

Triple Play was easy on purpose, no doubt about that.  I'm not sure if it ever happened before, but it was strange to see one of the choices for the Mustang was less than both previous choices for the Avenger.  Talk about forced win. ;)

Half Off was very surprising!  For sure one of the games was Plinko, as seen on the commercials and promos leading up to tonight, but this just sort of came out of nowhere... not that I'm complaining. :)  Beautiful win indeed.

That was one heck of an expensive boat.  And game room.  And once again, a dashingly hot looking red car finishes off the Showcases. :D

I thorougly enjoyed the clips, especially the fight scene from Happy Gilmore (I've never seen the movie before, so sue me :P).  Couldn't have been a better show.

I thought it was very well done overall. some great stuff we haven't seen in ages and ages, if at all. Has Half-Off been 25K before? I'm thinking no since it's only been around for the last few specials. Anyway. Good job CBS! As for the other game play, I think both showcase contestants were in daytime mode. I think they were thinking that this was a "normal" boat and a cheaper luxury vehicle. Nope

I watched this twice.  The second time to record it for keeps on DVD.  If Fremantle is really going to release a "Best of TPIR" DVD set, they should include this show.

This show was incredible.  It may be the best episode of Price is Right ever and it certainly was a perfect tribute to Bob.  The clips, Bob speaking about his career, and guest appearances (espically Adam Sandler) were awesome.  I don't think I could have wished for anything better.  The Big Doors and the sections inbetween them were absolutely beautiful too.

Triple Play- It was really cool to see Triple Play won in an MDS and a fantastic contestant was the one to win it.  The car and the convertible were very easy but I was torn between the 2nd and 3rd choices for the Cadillac.  I wonder why they used the standard win dings and not the clang clang woop woops.  It was also really weird to see Bob do the most teasing for the first car and not really that much teasing for the later cars.

It was really surprising to see Plinko and Half Off in the same episode and I was surprised to even see Half Off be played.  Great to see Half Off won in primetime.  Not having the $20,000 hit at least once was disappointing and I'm surprised he got the massager price wrong (I wonder who makes that it was pretty cool) in Plinko.  That was the one thing that could have been better about the show, otherwise it was perfect.

As I said in another post about the show, my favorite part of the show was seeing the Happy Gilmore clip unedited followed by Adam Sandler and his great poem.  I wondered why the show was rated TV-PG L  I was worried that Les Moonves was the special guest star.  My mom and grandma laughed histarically over the clips of contestants falling.

Once again, a perfect tribute to Bob.  Five out of five for sure!

Oh, on Bob's Letterman appearance Wednesday night/Thursday morning, Letterman said that Bob's final show is scheduled for June 15.

Edit to respond to Bully- The Cadillac was the DTS.  There is no PTS.

This show was a great special.

Just one minor quip. During the "falling down" clips, why did they have to put Rich saying "Come on Down" on clips that he never would have said them on?  And why did they have to put the modern light border on the Yolanda clip?  I think that's a case of going to too much trouble for consistent look (or so I can gather).

It's just the continuity and editor person in me speaking folks.

Wow, what a brilliant show. It was about as good of a way to celebrate Bob Barker's career as I could have imagined. I loved seeing the old clips from "Truth Or Consequences," and nothing beat the clips from "Happy Gilmore." Finally, I got to see that scene.

After I had read that Leslie Moonves was making an appearance on the show, I figured he was the special guest, so it was great to see Adam Sandler come on and read his poem. Although I will admit that probably the most emotional moment was when the crowd went crazy when Moonves was talking to Bob.

I was also glad to see that Roger purposely set up the games to be easy. It would have been a little depressing if we had seen all losses, but the easy set-ups made that less likely. 1/2 Off wins are always exciting, and the $25,000 prize made it even better.

I had been hoping for Hole in One (or Two) to show up on one of these episodes, although I bet time constraints were most likely why it didn't appear. Nevertheless, the game selections were brilliant, for both nights.

Finally, Nicole's reaction to winning was simply priceless... I couldn't help but feeling great over her showcase win. What a great two nights.

That will have to be confirmed even though Letterman probably got that info from someone at Black Rock. As of now, the schedule on CBS.com shows no first-run airings beyond June 1.

I know, I feel like Gordon McLendon of KLIF constantly reminding us that details of Kennedy's death were "unconfirmed", but I'm not willing to make book on this until I see something definite.

I guess it's just me, but they probably shouldn't have played Plinko on tonight's show, as a "loss" is virtually guaranteed.

And when I saw that Cadillac in Triple Play, I thought tonight was gonna go off like the 2/14/06 MDS -- the third car was a Corvette, and it was not reached.  Nice win, though, although I thought Noah was gonna get tricked by the Cadillac.  The DTS (Deville) usually runs about $46,000 depending on options... more or fewer options could have spelled disaster, as they could greatly alter the price of the car.

And it's too bad that Noah didn't win his showcase -- if he had, he would have gotten an all-time total of $222,226.

From what I saw, the cars given away tonight — now THAT'S how to do a special TPiR! You go whole hog!

I can understand his leaving the classic models out of this (various disputes that have led to estrangement) ... but I wonder why there was no mention of any of Bob's classic announcers from either TPiR (Johnny Olson and Rod Roddy) or his friends from "Truth or Consequences" (Charles Lyon, longtime assistant Dresser Dahlstead and producer Ralph Andrews)? Oh well, at least they didn't forget Yolanda or Pauline!

This was a great show. From the classic clip of Yolanda to a cameo appearance by "Happy Gilmore" himself, Adam Sandler. That really takes the cake. And as an added bonus, the local station here in Toronto, SunTV, showed the full credit roll in this special. That is something that is never done in the daytime show, although they may make an exception and show the full credit roll at the end of Bob's final show.

Well, this was quite a good show.  Much better than Wednesday's MDS, I'd say.  It shows just how much better the show works with more interaction time.  The clips were also a nice treat, with some new ones mixed in with the old standards.

First and foremost, the best part of this episode was, in my opinion, the fact that there was no Showcase Showdown!  I know they were toying around a four-game format earlier on before taping this special.  Thank God they didn't do that.  I'm also glad that they didn't do something stupid like stick a million dollar spin in for the Showcase winner.  The show works wonderfully without the Showcase Showdown.  Game$how Marathon should have been so smart.

There were only two things in this episode that majorly bugged the heck out of me.  One I've mentioned below.  The other was the fact that the show's logo was not on the big doors.  I was figuring they'd do a logo spun off of the MDS logo, but they just left out the name entirely.  That did not look right at all.

Triple Play was pretty easy, althouth that didn't take away from just how awesome the win was.

Equally awesome was the ½ Off win.  It's amazing how well Roger knows contestants that when it comes down to the final two boxes, he knows which one is likely to be picked.

Speaking of ½ Off, seeing both it and Plinko in the same show was a really nice surprise, though I can completely understand why they'd play ½ Off when its creator was in the audience. :)

And what's more, this proves Roger will do two SP games in a single show, even a half hour one.  If he can do it here, there's no reason why he couldn't do it in Bob's final episode with the perfect lineup consisting of both Five Price Tags and Bonus Game.

So, "that" Adam Sandler was the overly-hyped special guest.  Shouldn't be surprised.  I expected it to be one of those people big in Bob's career.  I also shouldn't have been surprised that they played the unedited version of the Happy Gilmore clip since the audiences have been begging it for years.  Well, if Bob's on his way, might as well go out with a bang. :)

And regarding Adam's poem, only Adam Sandler himself would have been able to write that.

The second Showcase was wonderfully done.

Yes, the only other thing about this episode that really bugged me.  For them to do that was very low, in my opinion.  They can keep Johnny's voice over the Yolanda clip but not his or Rod's on any others?  Not very respectful, and I wasn't pleased they managed to work around Bob saying any of the models' names in the other clips as well.

I knew something about that looked different, and I suspected it to be the light border, but I never actually considered that they'd really change it.

One of the best, if not the best, Primetime Special!

Triple Play: I thought it was easy.  I'm glad Noah won, and it was about $92,500 worth of cars.

1/2 Off: I chose Box 14 and would have lost.  I was surprised to see it being played, since I knew Plinko! was going to be played, and two cash games in a 1/2 hour format show was surprising.

Plinko!: The only disappointing part of the gameplay was that the $20,000 slot was not hit.  I think that some of the other slots should have also been increased, not just the $10,000.

SC1: My Bid: $84,125 / ARP: $124,491 / Diff: $40,366
SC2: My Bid: $61,300 / ARP: $80,953 / Diff: $19,653

As for the clips, after seeing Hayloft Ethel, I concluded that unlike some clips, like the Yolanda incident or the fainting, this clip can never get boring.  The "Truth or Consequences" clip was another great clip.  It makes me wish I had seen the show.  It was also nice to see some new clips, like Bob trying to get back the Race Game price tags after the contestant said he didn't need any of the prizes.
Still, the clips were wonderful, and I'm glad they were put into this Primetime Special.  This is one of the reasons why this show was better than the previous one.

That's got to be the easiest playing of Triple Play that I've ever seen. Roger wanted to be certain that even the pricing games turned out well on this already-awesome show, that's for sure.

The SPs in 1/2 Off were pretty easy, too. I'm loving the big wins being handed out on a silver platter tonight!

With all the excitement of tonight, the actual gameplay took a backseat. Still... YAY NICOLE FOR WINNING IT ALL! As if this show needed more awesomeness!

The speech by Les Moonves was really good, but the appearance by Adam Sandler was just awesome. A few of us had a feeling that he'd be the special guest, and fortunately, we were right.

HOTTIES: #268, Nicole (http://img174.imageshack.us/img174/1509/268nicole51707bobbarkercy3.jpg) (perfect screencap; looked right at the camera and gave us a nice smile... everything is going right tonight!)  :-D
BEST CONTESTANT OF THE DAY: You know what, considering who this big night is all about, even though he's not a contestant... Bob wins the award tonight! :-)
SHOW GRADE: I've never given a perfect grade. I've thought about it two or three times, but I've yet to do it. A show that gets a perfect grade from me needs to be amazing in every sense of the word. Big wins, memorable moments. This show was all about the memorable moments, and the big wins were just gravy. Ladies and gentlemen, for the first time, I'm grading this show with a grade I've wanted to use for a long time... 5

Well, how to describe such a wonderful show. The best hour I've ever spent watching TV. It was an amazing show to say the least, one for the ages.

First off, thank god I had taped it, because my pager, which hasn't gone off all night, chose the time of 8:01PM to ring, and I had to work. Luckily, it didn't last long, and I was back just in time to reveal to Half-Off. And I was able to re-watch the whole thing anyway.

Triple Play was made easy, Half-Off was well done, and Plinko was ... well, Plinko ! Nice showcase win by Nicole, who wins it all. Also, may I note that the first 2 contestants to be called down finished 1 and 2 tonight (showcase winner and showcase finalist).

As for the clips, they were wonderful! Most of them I had never seen. TOC, Bonanza, the Flip Flop Rip ... The speech by Les Moonves was nice, the Bob Barker story was very touching, and the Adam Sandler appeareance was very funny (so was the poem ... "I went out and got myself spayed"! Priceless).

A wonderful night, a wonderful host, a wonderful career. Doesn't get any better than this !

I concur with Joe : 50/5 !

Under normal circumstances, my reviews would consist of a brief take on each pricing game from my point of view; this is not the case.  As I sat in sheer amazement after watching the show on my computer just now, all I can say is that this was the greatest TPiR that my one good eye has had the pleasure of watching.  This even trumps the Season 35 premiere and makes THAT show look silly!

Never before have I given a perfect grade for a show myself, but there's a first time for everything.  Don't you agree with me?

OVERALL SHOW GRADE:  A+

(don't forget to add the extra pluses like in "A Christmas Story"!)  :-D  :-D  :-D

Hello all....

My critique of last night's show...

Overall it couldn't be beat. I enjoyed the tribute and the retrospective on his career i television.  however I'm glad I'm wasn't the only one who caught on to the slips/falls coming down to contestant's row with rich's voice added in.  That was awkward because i was expecting to hear rod's voice.  there were some clips such as the ones of the ladies and gents who kissed bob that i've never seen ( the one with Bob in a dark green jacket with the pink carnation) and Shelia who had to be sworn in not to hurt bob, and she eventually chased bob around the Race Game prop.  I agree I wish they showed those who were also around contributing to bob's career ( the ex-models/announcers i know need a tribute of their own).
I hope to catch his last show.

In response to The Hurdler's comment — I don't think that, given the remarks in Tuesday's USA Today article (a sidebar article that went along with the retrospective of Bob's career), Bob would ever allow his name to be mentioned in the same breath as Janice Pennington, Dian Parkinson, Kathleen Bradley or Holly Hallstrom. There's just so much ill will there, I just doubt it.

I know he has spoken fondly of Rod Roddy and (to a greater extent) Johnny Olson, and likely has high opinions of his Truth or Consequences co-stars (Dresser and Charles), so their apparent omission is a little puzzling. Although Johnny Olson's  "C'mon down!" was no doubt heard during the "Yolanda" clip.

I doubt you'll ever hear Anitra Ford, the other classic Beauty, but I think that's only because she left the show so long ago and, aside from the show's devoted fans, few people remember her. Same goes with the other subs Barbara and Kyle Odletter.

If I'm wrong, please correct me by all means!

Brian

Triple Play: 1st 2 was obvious, but I would have gone with $35K.  Nicely done by Timnothy.

Half Off: Another Fine win by Nicole, I thought the money was in 14.

Plinko!: This is why I detest this in primetime: it's a one way ticket to puny winnings.

SC1: SUPER GARF!  That Navigator is AT LEAST $55,000 and the sport boat at least $65,000.

SC2: Another SUPER GARF: That Corvette was at least $60,000.  This will come down to "Who GARFED the least?"

Ah yes, I loved all those clips, particularly the Happy Gilmore one.

The best Primetime Special EVER!

I'm thinkin' that the sound bytes that they added to certain clips were to make the clips seem a little "funnier"--just like one of those blooper shows.  Trust me, I'm still laughin' even now!

I'm a little busy right now, so I'm not going to go into too much detail here...but wow.  Amazing episode, and the pricing game lineup was completely insane.  Gotta give major props to CBS, too, for airing the Happy Gilmore fight scene uncensored.

This was, wow.  This show is hard to describe.  Aside from the wins, it's hard to do justice to a career like Bob's.  The CBS Art Department did a FANTASTIC job on decorating the set for tonight's bonanza.  The opening montage was awesome, using the various Price music cues behind a photo sideshow.  If you didn't have goosebumps during that open, you don't like Price.

I was expecting to hear the Race Game running music behind some of the crazy ToC races.

Triple Play had no business showing up.  I'm surprised Roger left Hole In One in the warehouse tonight.  Come on, the Inspiration Putt is one of Bob's signatures.  Barker's last show is going to be mighty hard to watch, whenever CBS decides to air it.

Again, this was AWESOME.

Heck of a show tonight!!! From the great clips, from Truth or Consequences, the fall downs, clip from Bonanza, Adam Sandler, the history of Bob's illustrious television career, and an old school format game we had today, plus a lovely lady named Nicole, this show was AWESOME. I'm glad I DVR'd it from the HD channel, I'm keeping this one for a long time.

Before I begin my comments on game play I thought I should give some praises. First off, even though they aren't apart of the show staff, Marc and John. I really didn't know you guys were going to the special until I saw the pics of you guys hanging out at last night's MDS. Everytime you guys are there I really look forward to seeing all of the new pics you have in store for us members. You guys do a splendid job. Hopefully you guys will still go when we get our new host and take more new pictures. Second, The Price is Right staff. They just did an excellent job piecing the show together last night. I don't think they could've did it any better. Third the CBS Art Department. The reason I'm commending them is they did such a wonderful job on last night's set. They must've had such a hard job to do as well. I bet for them it was pretty difficult to paint all of the different pictures on to the big doors, make them look realistic and get every picture painted to the finest detail. Lastly I would like to thank Bob barker for his 50 years of service on Television. Now granted I've only been alive since 1984 and didn't become a hard core dedicated fan until around Season 28 or 29, Obviously didn't get to watch it much prior because of school. But I love watching it every chance I get. I still plan to watch it when he leaves. Once a LFAT, always a LFAT. I even remember last summer I was telling a friend that I had this crazy idea that her and I should scrape up some money and go to the 35th Anniversary premiere. Unfortunately I regret that I wasn't able to go. Hopefully I'll still go someday when we get the new host. Okay on to the game play.

The opening was very cool. I was wondering if they would do the opening like they did in the 25th Anniversary special with Bob being backstage. I really enjoyed seeing the opening clips as well. That was just really special to see.

Triple Play- Roger tried to make this game as easy as possible tonight. The first car was clearly closer to $21,550. $29,620 was just too high. For the 2nd car it was clearly the $25,000+ tag. Now the Cadillac I wasn't 100% sure about. I knew it was either $35,640 or $41,321. The reason I thought $35,640 was logical was because I've seen Cadillacs on the daytime show and primetime specials that weren't $40,000+. But great win anyway. Actually Noah I do believe is the biggest winner in Triple Play history! His score came to $92,426 excluding the IUFB he won.

Half Off- Even though the SPs were higher in Price than normal, it was still a cakewalk in this game as well. And it was nice that Nicole won it. Did anyone notice a trend though when the boxes were going bye-bye. In the first round first all of the yellow boxes went away, with a few others, next all of the blue boxes went away. And then 2 of the remaining 4 pink boxes went away. Weird if you ask me. lol.

Plinko was nice to see. Although I kinda felt bad for Robert because even though he got 4 of the 5 chips, he pretty much stood no chance of getting into the showcase. He would have had to hit the $20,000 at least twice to possibly get in. But at least he walked out with $3,000 more than what he came to CBS with.

Showcases- Splendid! I always get annoyed when they do the more expensive than normal showcase last rather than the first. Tonight the more expensive showcase was first. Actually correct me if I'm wrong, but I think Noah's showcase was the most expensive showcase ever!

And just for everyone's curiosity: If Noah had been a DSW he would've won $303,179. And if Nicole was a DSW she would've won $234,870. Obviously either would've become the biggest winner in Price history. But unfortunately that didn't happen.

Tonight's grade A+++++++++++++++++++++++++

By the way I loved one particular clip during the contestant falls. It was the one where a contestant was running down and out popped a person from their seat and into the aisle, trying to be an idiot on camera causing not only the contestant to fall, but himself as well. A good lesson in why you shouldn't act like an idiot on camera!

Okay. Unfortunately, I did not see the whole special last night (well, I only missed the beginning but saw it this morning), but I did get a good feel to the program.

Triple Play: I thought this would be hard. The only decision I had was to pick between the 35 or 41 for the Caddy.

½ Off: I had to pick the empty box again! ... :headbang:

$100,000 Plinko: My friend had no comment about that dolphin massager. During the chips falling, I once again thought what it would be like if someone can be in the chips like Cleveland and then groan when they land on 0. ... Oh wait, there was no 0 at all. I guess it was a little case of tough luck here.

Showcases: Boy, was my friend amazed at Nicole's Showcase; he really wants that pool table and arcade games. As a matter of fact, mostly all of the prizes were great.

The added extras: I cannot express them in detail, but Bob was right: Whatever seat you're in was ringside when you  see these clips.
All this talk about a Special Guest Star gave me only two choices: Adam Sandler and/or Chuck Norris. It was no surprise to me that Sandler appeared, but I was a little positively surprised to see (most) of the famous Happy Gilmore clip.

Wonderful! Just Wonderful!  :-D

Price in Primetime Game #31
This is the only episode without the words "The Price is Right" in the title.

Showcase #1: Barker's Milestones
Know what, let's do the price of the Lincoln Navigator first: $55,520.  This leaves $68,971 to spend on the following prizes in this showcase:

17 Gold Bars - It's unbelievable that old Jacob would come up with such price: US$12,427, which converts to AU$14,854 if you're using Australian dollars on this trip to Melbourne, which is worth US$12,549 (AU$15,000), both prices on the day of taping.

This is a historic moment:  Not since November 16, 1994 has a trip appeared in the same showcase as a gold bar.  There were six in that particular episode, along with a trip to Hawaii. Another such occasion was in 1978, when a lady named Linda was bidding on a showcase that consists of a gold bar and two trips.  She missed her showcase only $5.  In such situation, I will treat them the same way as I do with double trip showcases.

Eliminator 210 Eagle Vista (upgraded from XP) - It looks like Eliminator boats only appear in showcases with trips and it is also a primetime-only prize.  I have also checked cophers.com, and the price is "Request a quote", which is not a dollar value, so I then checked boattraderonline.com, and there are none.  If there were one listed on the latter weblink, the price would very likely be "call for price", which is also not a dollar value.  So I'm guessing $43,995 here.

Showcase #2 - How Life Has Changed Since 1956
World Poker Tour Pinball Machine - $4,595, and the following prizes are back-to-back-to-back-to-back world premieres on price:
Murrey Amidor Pool Table - $3,700
Madden NFL Arcade Game - $5,995
Sharp Aquus 52" TV - $4,099
2007 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible, and the last Corvette Convertible in daytime was a 2006 model. - $62,564

And so the GA Systems Soda Fountain has unfortunately been left out even though soda fountains were being used in malt shops back then.

The Primetime Modeling Report Card for May 17, 2007
For this special, here's the scale (inflated 50% from daytime):
Shane - $120,000 and up
High - $90,000-$119,999
Medium - $60,000-$89,999
Low - $30,000-$69,999
Bargain - $29,999 and under
(http://img140.imageshack.us/img140/8939/bb50totalsim1.gif)
There are 21 prizes totaling $435,565, and now, let's do the hottie:

Here's the same screenshot of Nicole, except this is without the microphone (http://img239.imageshack.us/img239/9861/268nicolenomicez8.png).  It looks like she lost her podium.

This is what Nicole would look like wearing a Dina Bar-el gown:  Click here (http://img239.imageshack.us/img239/640/nicolecl9.png)

Celebrity look-alikes:
With microphone - Kate Bosworth, who was born the day before Plinko's debut (70%)
No microphone - Judy Garland, again (74%), and Bosworth comes up fifth (62%)

Great show!  Lots of great TPIR clips, ToC clips, and the uncensored Barker-Gilmore tussle.  I'm not surprised that Adam Sandler was the super-secret special guest.

So with the "Happy Gilmore" clip and the Sandler appearance, where the hell was Hole in One?!

PG #1:  Roger must've really wanted to give those three cars away.  That was the easiest TP setup ever.

PG #2:  Yay!  $25,000 Half-Off!  :-P  Only the second time in history that we've played Half for higher stakes, and I'm glad somebody won the 25 large before Bob retires.  I found it pretty funny that when four boxes were left, all four of the said boxes were pink.

PG #3:  WHA?!  Plinko on the same show has Half-Off?!  Two SP games on the same show hasn't happened since April 1998, but never before have two cash/SP games been played on the same show.  I would've replaced Plinko with Hole and brought Sandler out for an inspiration putt.

My showcase bids:
SUV/boat--$132,351
Corvette--$67,493

This was a totally amazing-fantastic-super-great-exciting-eventful show!! From beginning to end!

Triple Play - It was obvious Roger wanted this won. It was a great way to start off the show. No clangs and whoops though

1/2 off - great win!!! Nicole definetly deserved it. she was a great contestant

Plinko - Not too bad of a payout.

Other - Those clip montages were hilarious. IMO the best clip was the one girl asking her mom for advice in shell game :oldlol: . i loved it. the appearance by Adam Sandler was great. first time i have seen that clip.

Showcases - I didnt really expect either showcase to be that expensive. Great for Nicole on winning!

Grade: 10/10!!!!!

Best Contestant: Nicole

PG #1-Woohoo, nighttime Triple Play and a Cadillac at the end!!  I haven't seen this in so long, I forgot about the rules of this game.  A really easy setup.  Noah cleans up nicely with nearly $100,000 in automobiles!

PG #2-Whoa, Half-Off in primetime as well!  That was an exciting win; I'm glad she won $25,000.

PG #3-What special wouldn't be complete without an appearance of Plinko?  I was hoping that they would maybe bring back the sign one last time, but oh well.  No top slot hit, though, just like the 25th Anniversary.

Showcases-Whoa, they both seriously underbid!

With regards to the rest of the show, it was the best Price is Right I have ever seen!!  The big doors and audience backdrop looked really cool-looking.  Of course, you have your clips of Price stuff, which I was laughing the whole way through.  The story of Bob's life was very neat, and Adam Sandler's poem was priceless.  It was also very cool to see some Truth or Consequences clips.

Wow, if you're gonna go out...man, what a way to go!  Best Price is Right ever!  A+ show (add as many pluses as you want)!

I must say, CBS really put this special together well. The clips were great, the games were good (some surprising). All in all a great hour of fun and reminiscing!

When I saw the Cadillac prices in Triple Play I expected the first price to be the winner. I thought the Cadillac offered was the same one offered in 3 Strikes a few months back that was only about $32,000. I honestly thought Noah lost. Did anyone notice in the opening where Bob talks backstage that you could see part of one of Triple Play's podium?

1/2 Off was definitely a surprise. I expected one quickie game (1RP or Switch?) for 2 cars.

I really was not surprised to see Plinko!, but I did expect after seeing 1/2 Off played that a car game would be third. Awesome that Adam Sandler made a cameo. When I first heard on the commercial that a special guest would be on and then saw Les, I thought whoop-de-doo. Adam Sandler was such a surprise and Bob was genuinely surprised too.

The showcases were awesome. I loved the 2nd showcase where they showed Rachel in B&W like she was in the 50's. I hope the backdrop for the Corvette in the 2nd Showcase carries over to daytime. That was cool and definitely needs to stay!

Overall: 100/100

I've said so much about the show itself already that I have to admit that the games themselves became somewhat secondary. For me, it was about the walks down memory lane, love for Bob, and of course Adam Sandler dropping by! :D

It was a thrill to see Triple Play in person (now that just leaves Golden Road as far as the Big Three). This setup, though, was a vintage case of what I call Santa Dob - he had presents he wanted to give out. The first two cars I definitely knew, and when I saw that insane $11,000 gap between price #3 and #4 on the Caddy, I knew that was done so the third (and right one) would scream "PICK ME!"

Easy setup or not, what a thrill to watch that game be played - and won - in person.

I also loved finally seeing 1/2 Off, though it scared me. What a heartbreak it could be if we got it down to two boxes (which was obviously going to happen with THAT setup) and have Nicole pick the wrong box!

Starcade got a laugh out of the fact that after loudly screaming out prizes during the SP portion, I just sat there and shrugged come time to pick a box. As I told him, I may know that cereal dispenser is $40, I may know what's half off, but I don't know what's behind card #1 on Spelling Bee, nor know where Roger hid the money in 1/2 Off.

I am glad that not that she did pick the right box, but that she and Bob had so much fun dropping the bills on each other.. :oldlol:

Plinko was, well, Plinko. While I was hoping for the best for Robert, this was not the game I wanted to see to close out the pricing games for today. Not only because I've seen it three times in six tapings (to that point), but in a format like this, Robert was going to need to drop two chips into the middle to get himself in the Showcases. Considering how infrequently this seems to happen anymore, Robert looked like he had one and done written all over him.

Nothing like a FRB in Showcase #1. As usual, I could not hear Rich's description on the boat - and even if I did, it wouldn't have done much. I was thinking $95,000, though I was thinking this could be anywhere from about $80,000 to $115,000 (I didn't quite think it'd be THAT high).

Another Corvette? First I couldn't quit attracting One Away, now it's 'Vettes. I'll stick with the latter!

But, I knew Nicole's bid didn't even cover the car. I was shouting for her to bid $75,000..

Of course, didn't matter much if she had, or went $50,000 as she did. Noah was even further off than I thought he'd be... FRB.

A truly priceless day for Nicole - $25,000 and a Corvette, among other goodies. And a special, touching day for the rest of us.

I'll say it before, and I'll say it again: What a thrill to be there!

And I'll say one last thing: If anyone on this forum ever gets to be a contestant, and plays for a Corvette, and I'm in the audience, don't worry. They've offered three Corvettes so far with me in the audience, and the contestant has won it all three times! :oldlol:

WOW!! One word to describe Thursday's SUPER special!!!

The set looked really awesome. I enjoyed all the great TPIR and ToC clips. Bob on "Bonanza" was a real delight. Les Moonves gave a really good speech and the audience wished Bob all the best so sweet. When Adam Sandler dropped by, I was speechless. Adam was being himself by giving a hilarious poem and Bob laughed out loud. I didn't mind the "Happy Gilmore" clip in its incensored glory. The interview segment was really unique and showed how much Bob had a wonderful career and a strong advocate for animal rights. The opening was very neat, too.

Triple: This looked like one of the most simpleist playings of this game ever. Noah nailed it good by taking home three FABBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBulous cars!!!!

1/2 Off: Seeing this game was a surprise and Nicole earned herself $25K much deservedly by playing really well.

Plinko: No surprise. Well, $3K is better than nothing at all.

Showcases: The 1st showcase was very entertaining. Rachel is fine in Black and White!!! :-D I bidded around $118,000. The 2nd was also very nice. Despite two lowball bids, It was great and Nicole will never forget this experience nailing over $110K.

This was an amazing celebration of Bob and this deserves to be the best TPIR Primetime Special...Period.

I give this one 5,000 Stars!!!!! :-D  :hammer:  :D  ;-)

Even though this show was only 3 pricing games, it was really really good.

First, the pricing games: Triple Play was extremely easy, and so was Half Off. Two great wins for an already awesome show. Cool, Plinko shows up also. Two cash and small prize games. I was kind of mad that they couldn't do 6 pricing games in a 2-hour show with the addition of the montage of clips, because I believe CBS didn't need to include the second CSI episode at 10:00. They easily could have put this from 8 to 10, and the CSI finale at 10.

All of the clips were great to see. I laughed at a lot of them. Happy Gilmore uncensored was great also, and so was Adam Sandler appearing and creating an awesome poem dedicated to Bob.

Best Contestant- Nicole

Showcase #1- $95,000
Difference- $29,491

Showcase #2- $77,000
Difference- $3953

This was one awesome special!

It was really great that the half-hour gameplay format was used for the first time in eleven years.  It had a nice old-school feeling for it and I thought Bob should have one more half-hour format show before he leaves for good.

This is also the first time in eleven years Bob wore a tuxedo, he looked great in it!

Triple Play was extremely easy, it looks like Roger wanted this won on such a big night.  The first choice for the Mustang convertible was lower than one of the price choices for the Avenger for Pete's sake.  The Cadillac was easy to win-a big car like that costs at least $40K.

It was great to see ½ Off won on that night.  I loved it when all the money fell out of the box and onto the stage after she won.

I really liked all the clips that were shown.  I was laughing hard at the Samonan contestants and people falling or getting hurt when they were coming on down, I thought it was hilarious.

It was very nice for Les Moonves to appear and give Bob a fond farewell.  That's probably what Mark Goodson would do if he was still alive today.

Ever since I saw Happy Gilmore  I knew an appearance by Adam Sandler was inevitable.  I was surprised that the clip was aired uncensored since this was a family show.  "The price is wrong, b****!" is probably why the show got a PG rating.

I really liked the showcases, as they showed a nice black and white image of a living room in the 1950s and the nice Corvette, the third Lincoln Navigator the show offered, and that huge speedboat.

The opening, with Bob next to the Bob Barker Studio plaque, was shot live to tape along with the rest of the episode. Bob shot that opening and then while the clips were playing, they removed the hedges obscuring our view of the Mustang, closed the cyc (large back curtain), and Bob was in place to make his entrance in time for Rich's introduction. Bob's opening wasn't pre-taped.

This was one of my favorite Price primetime specials. Some of the clips were the same ones we've seen on every other price clip montage, but there were many new ones, and on top of that, some really great ones. I loved how they showed the Happy Gilmore clip and that Adam Sandler came out to see Bob. I always love to see Triple Play won, and seeing Plinko is ALWAYS a treat. I do however, have one question. Why is it that ppl think BOB said "The Price is Wrong...B****!". Bob said: "Now you've had enough....B****." I think Bob should have said "The Price is RIGHT, b****!" when he finished off Adam, that woulda been great! Overall, amazing primetime special.
