Just the usual recap fixing. Nomenclature shift, and added a little color. Second edit made later to fix a minor math issue and Plinko chip order. And one last time, as I was watching the episode on Pluto and decided to update the Showcase round template.

Not a bad show, at least they showed they could put it together without needing celeb guests. The Tesla was a nice car, too bad it wasn't won. Drew and Rich doing the Batman/Robin rope climb at the very end was funny.

I decided to do a few images today, especially for those who have no idea what "Green Road" was:

Of course the Tesla was red. No big rainbow, they surrounded all prizes with shrubbery though:

This was the ultimate crapshoot here. Plasmas semi-awkwardly fill space:

And after saying 6, Drew lets him touch it like last time:

Overall a good motif show, but there are hybrids that do not exceed 30k - why weren't they used?

Looks like today was "Green Day" at TPiR. How appropriate, to celebrate the holiday's 40th anniversary.

Overall a good motif show, but there are hybrids that do not exceed 30k - why weren't they used?

Probably because they want nice hybrids. And the first one — an electric car — was a "Golden Road" (today "Green Road") prize, meaning it needed to be expensive.

Today's show wasn't bad. I got the first 2 prizes right in green road and the last one i got wrong.
One Wrong Price was tough how could the tv only be 2100 when it's normally higher?
Pick a pair double prices and plinko was won so no question about that. Lucky seven was tough because the first number was a 3. Normally it's never a 3 but this time it is.

Did anyone else have the commercial for the Kleenex disposable bathroom towels during their airing?  I had to lol at the gross wastefulness of the product during an "earth day" show.  (Though I guess the same argument could be made for using Kleenex in general instead of a hankey.)

I'm actually kind of interested in that electric motorcycle offered during the showcase...something you don't hear much about, and is probably very efficient.

Laughed at the "Green Road" sign---nice to see the Tesla. Perfect car for the Earth Day show. The game itself was a nailbiter---too bad it was lost.

Other than that, pretty decent show.

Overall a good motif show, but there are hybrids that do not exceed 30k - why weren't they used?

Probably because hybrids still give off levels of emissions whether there's an electric component or not.

Query.. does giving "cut" flowers really count as a "green" prize? To be truly green, they would have let them keep growing...

Golden (er, Green) Road was played about as well as it could have been played. It's a real shame that it wasn't won.

The $100 discrepancy in Raquel's total: IUFB #5 was worth $1,000, not $900.

"Green Road" just doesn't have the same ring to it as "Golden Road" does.  Still, nice to see it played...and nearly won to boot! I wasn't a fan of having the monitors on both sides of the car turntable...they just looked out of place, and the image on them was distracting. (I guess it's better than those stupid green columns, though!)

I really liked the display of the Arctic Circle trip in PAP...it was much better than just having the monitor there.  The fake snow was a nice touch.  (But a trip to the Arctic Circle? Really?)

When was the last time someone won all five Plinko chips?

I really wasn't a fan of a lot of the prizes...but maybe it's because I'm just not into the whole "green" thing.

The Showcases were decent, and only one trip!

OVERALL: 3.5/5.

When was the last time someone won all five Plinko chips?

It happened 10 playings ago, December 23, 2009.

The contestant only won $1,200.

I wasn't a huge fan of the show today, but that Tesla sure was nice!

I guess I don't get how driving an electric car is so "green". Since most of our electricity comes from coal you're really not "saving the earth". Don't get me wrong I couldn't care less about being "green" but this just doesn't make sense to me.

Just as an aside, Churchill, Manitoba is about 8 degrees of latitude south of the Arctic Circle... although I guess "it's a trip to Churchill, Manitoba!" just doesn't have the same effect.

In all seriousness, a pretty good show today in my opinion.

"Green" Road:  Man, I wanted to see Rhett win that Tesla!
Double Prices:  Let's hear it for the power of Alakazaam! :-)
Plinko: Nice to see all 5 chips won for a change! :-)
Lucky Seven:  If only Julie would've had one more dollar!

Pretty good show overall, IMHO.

What else can I say?  I am all out of superlatives that would describe this show when it was taped.

I have to admit that I was THIS close to stripping naked and screaming at a telephone pole after the seating nightmare that took place at my third taping back in 2009.  One year later, however, this wasn't the case.  I was the guy in the front row, wearing a black shirt that paid tribute to my uncle, Bob Longlais (more on his story in a little bit).  To say that I truly enjoyed this taping would be a gross understatement on anyone's part.  This was--out of the previous eight tapings before it--THE BEST taping that I have ever attended.  I got to see the most expensive prize in this show's history up close, and I got to see a game that taught me basic math (Plinko) when I was a child growing up.  I was really rooting for Rhett to win the Golden/Green Road, but another part of me was glad that he DIDN'T WIN--and I'll explain why.  During the first break, Drew and audience were discussing the financial impacts that Rhett would face had he, in fact, won the Tesla Roadster.  The taxes on that thing would've been high, and the insurance costs would've been at least $5000 PER MONTH.  Just seeing the famous Golden/Green Road sign alone told me that this taping was gonna be special, and by God it was.

Before I get to the personal anecdotes of my conversations with Drew and Rich during the taping, a few things needed to be pointed out:

1.  If you're planning on going to a 12:10 PM taping in the future, I want you to know that processing now starts at 7:15 AM, which meant that I had to be in the lot by 7:00 AM after the Order of Arrival numbers were handed out.

Finally, and this is the most important of all...

2.  It is NOT just Stan doing contestant interviews anymore.  For this show, Michelle (I hope I spelled it right) did the contestant interviews, but she had recognized me--just like Stan--because she was Stan's note-taker for the other two tapings.

Now, to the personal anecdotes.  During the third break, Drew recognized me in the front row, and I proceeded to tell him the story about the shirt that was wearing.  The shirt paid tribute to my uncle, Bob Longlais, who passed away due to cancer three weeks prior to the taping.  For those who don't know, my uncle gave 28 years of his life to the Army as a medical specialist; he served during Desert Storm in Saudi Arabia in one of the first field hospitals that was built at the time.  Drew was touched by the shirt, and it led me to finally hug him during the fourth break.  After I hugged Drew, he asked me what I did for a living and the number of tapings that I have attended.  I told Drew and the audience that this was my 9th taping--and that my very first taping was with Bob Barker in 2007.  After that, I told him that I was due to graduate with my B.A. in History from Texas A&M-Corpus Christi this May, and the crowd started applauding and cheering.

During the next break, Rich came down from his podium to talk to us, and I got to hug him too.  As the crowd cheered, I remember Rich saying "you're a loyal friend and true," and for the first time in my whole life, I finally felt like a winner.  I have gone to eight previous tapings and felt like a loser each time, but this taping was very special to me.  I finally felt as if I CAN be able to prove to everyone in that room that I can make magic on stage.  It truly was a magical moment in my own life, but it didn't end at the taping.  Later that Wednesday night, I got an e-mail from none other than Rich Fields himself, and it goes like this:

Quote
(Time sent to me:  9:13 PM)

---------------------------------

Hi John:

I just wanted to drop you a note and thank you for your love, affection and loyalty to me, drew, the models and.... The Price is Right.

It was nice spending a few days with you. I do wish Stan would have picked you to "Come on Down". But that's neither here nor there... it was just nice to see you again.

I am sorry to hear about your recent loss of Uncle Bob. My heartfelt condolences go out to you. I just lost my father this past Christmas... so I know how you're feeling. With a little time, all will get better.

Anyway, good luck with your impending graduation. Congrats on your "Masters". And thank you for being such a "Loyal Friend & True".

Sincerely,

Rich Fields l Announcer
The Price is Right

I cried.  The whole experience of going through this taping, plus Rich's letter to me, would become the cap to the most magical spring break that I have ever had in my life, and reading Rich's note brings tears to my eyes and a sense of motivation--the "want" to come back for my 10th taping of "The Price is Right."

Warmest wishes and love always,

-JOHN J. GILLMEN

Good question.  To be honest, I had no clue at first.

Bulldog, I'm glad you had a good time!

I am really glad that Golden Road was lost. The long-term aspects of this game being won would have been crippling.

At least all 5 Plinko chips were won.

Lucky $even was winnable.

The tune that was played when the Tesla was shown was a sports cue that was used by the MSG Network in 1992; the cue, which was composed by Michael Karp or Edd Kalehoff, is known as--I think--"Baseball's Best."  Unfortunately, I can't find it anywhere on the Internet except on YouTube.

As exciting as expensive cars are, I'm not sure why the show thinks it can afford to offer a $112,000 car and two $30,000 cars in just two days.  They do not have this kind of money in their budget right now, and they're probably very glad that neither Golden Road nor Lucky $even was won today.

Am I the only one who thought the Tesla was kinda dinky?  Theme show be damned, I'd rather see the Viper.

A trip to the Arctic Circle?  Come on.

Am I the only one who thought the Tesla was kinda dinky?  Theme show be damned, I'd rather see the Viper.

The Tesla is based on something called the Lotus Elise, which has the engine of a Toyota Corolla in an absurdly small, lightweight body that makes it go fast.  Because both the Tesla and Lotus are purpose-built sports cars with next to no creature comforts, they are expensive as anything (even a simple Elise costs upwards of $45,000).

A trip to the Arctic Circle?  Come on.

Eco tourism is very big in Canada. Don't poo poo it until you have experienced it. Not everyone wants to go to Hawaii, afterall.

I'd like to pose a question to Bully, Steve, John, Marc, or anyone who might know:

Were the props used today for "Green" Road "from-scratch" versions of the old props, or were they the old props retrofitted with some kind of green "rainbow" overlay on them?

BTW, "Green" Road makes me think of "The Green Mile".  I'm pretty sure they weren't going for that, but I wouldn't rule out the use the title of "The Green Mile" as inspiration.  Miles are traveled on roads, change "golden" in Golden Road to "green"...just mere speculation on my part with zero truth value, most likely.

Wow, the Green Road. I can't believe they actually went all the way through in doing that. It looked pretty nice and was amusing for the theme of the day - let's please not make a habit of completely redesigning pricing games just for one show, though. And that was very exciting to watch, as Golden Road always is. Fairly set up, great prize at the end, and just bad luck on the final pick. I hope we get to see see all of the Big 3 one more time before the season ends, and we better get a win :)

Other than that, this show was nothing spectacular and the green themed prizes honestly got annoying by PG5. Seeing such an expensive car in Lucky $even was a shot, and that setup wasn't as hard as some have been - good. Nice to finally see a 50k+ showcase that they were trying really hard to have lost won too! This week in particular must have made the budget hurt a lot more than it already was.

Side note - another solid lineup, Adam. L7 6th the day after Key 6th? Woohoo!

Timings:
Golden Road (6) - 5:51
One Wrong Price (3.5) - 3:15
Pick A Pair (4.5) - 4:34
Double Prices (3) - 2:37
Plinko (5.5) - 5:38
Lucky $even - 4:33
Total time (27.5): 26:29

-JOHN J. GILLMEN

That's great that you got to hug Rich Fields John.

I guess I don't get how driving an electric car is so "green". Since most of our electricity comes from coal you're really not "saving the earth". Don't get me wrong I couldn't care less about being "green" but this just doesn't make sense to me.
In the U.S., coal is the single biggest source of electric power, but it's not most of our electricity (i.e., it's less than 100%). According to the wikipedia article on electric cars (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electric_car), based on the mix of energy sources used to generate electric power in the U.S., an electric car would result in 30% less CO2 emissions than a conventional car. So, yes, it is greener. But the more electricity is generated by solar, wind, etc. the better.

Wow, the taxes on that Tesla Roadster--whoa! I wouldn't have won it either. I chose the same number for each prize that the contestant did.

Last time I checked, the Arctic Circle extends through Northern Canada.. The prize was for a trip to the Arctic Circle; something that the show apparently was more than eager to offer, and advertise to American public as a place of interest to visit. There are millions of people from around the world (well over 9.9 million from the US alone last year) who want to come and explore Canada. So don't presume to think you know what more people would want. Your narrow mindedness has been well established here. The contestant was more than excited to have won the trip, and I'm willing to wager he'll have the adventure of a lifetime.

Okay, ready for the "Earth Day" special. Will I get to see some of the shirts from my tapings?

Golden Green Road: Oooh, that Green Road really got my attention. The uber-expensive Tesla did not catch my eye as much as the others--If Rhett wins it or not, oh, well. He gave it a good try. For the Tesla, I was thinking either 6 or 8.

One Bid 2: "Hey! Is that Trisha from Temptation? It is!" After discovering that, I uploaded her episodes of that "wonderful" revival of that show. So she made it on this show, huh?

One Wrong Price: [After capturing her episodes] "... And she gets to play? Well, let's hope she has some success here." She didn't.

pick a pair. since the coffee was too high the best alternative would be to pick the chips for the almonds

Showcase Showdown 1: Oh, Trisha always have to end up with smaller prizes, never a big prize....

Double Prices: Yep, so much energy is used on this show (Adrianna's spunk).

Plinko: Well, ya gotta win some green on Earth Day....

One Bid 6: The flowers (and her orange podium) done wilted for Julie...

Lucky Seven: Recalling a recent posting about how some of the things that were on the show a few years back that are no longer in play? Well, mewonders 5 is never gonna work for the last number in this game, even if the right number is one away.

Showcases: Yup, being green by spending green.

Well, it looks like the shirt recycling tactic that Fingers and Co. tried to do on my tapings fell through. I do not recall seeing any audience members' shirts. Oh, well.

Were the props used today for "Green" Road "from-scratch" versions of the old props, or were they the old props retrofitted with some kind of green "rainbow" overlay on them?

I think they were overlays.  The innermost color stripe of the rainbows on each of the prize podiums is dark green.  If you look at the "Green Road" sign in particular, right behind the grocery item, you can see the uncovered green stripe when the rainbow meets the cloud base.

For a moment there I thought Drew was going to do a Bob-like reveal at the Tesla (going to show the number, then stopping to say something, then going back, then stopping at least once more, etc.) He hasn't tried it in a good while.

No rainbow at the end of the Green Road. A couple of plasma screens and some plants? Yes!  :-)

Great experience, GoldenBulldog.

So why couldn't he sell the car if he won, pay the taxes and keep what's left. I don't know how much they tax that but it seems like that'd be a good amount of money would it not? That's what I always figured I'd do if I was ever on the show and won some hugely expensive prize like that. But maybe there's something I don't know. lol

It's narrow-minded to wonder why they would offer a trip to a place that immediately makes you think of the temperature being freezing cold?

I have no problem with Alaskan cruises, because there are some very nice places in Alaska, and I'd think the show would have enough sense to send people to those places.

Maybe the trip to the Arctic Circle is nice, too...but it sounds awful.  It's no different than CheapTickets or Skunkfunk -- they might have great tickets and nice clothes, but they sound cheap and ugly, respectively.  The current staff doesn't seem to understand that making things sound good is an important part of presenting them.

Am I the only one who thought the Tesla was kinda dinky?  Theme show be damned, I'd rather see the Viper.

A trip to the Arctic Circle?  Come on.

I've got to agree about the Testla car; that one had me kind of scratching my head. I'm kind of curious as to how much the Chevrolet Volt will cost when first released? Guess it fits in the theme. And had the Testla been won, better pony up, I guess.

As for the Arctic Circle — well, you could say the lucky person who goes there will have an experience of a lifetime. Not all the trips have to be to the sunny Bahamas, for instance.

Golden... I mean Green Road- Wow-wy! That was the biggest disappointment I've seen on Price. I for one though felt it had a decent setup through out the game. The bikes were a gimme. The only one I felt was a crapshoot was the spa. Just to point it out, if he would've won he would've become the 3 biggest winner in the show's history.
