Title: ザ・チャンス! ("The Chance!", Japan's version of our beloved TPiR)
Post by: Netsurfer_x1 on September 14, 2009, 03:18:53 AM
I don't know how many of you people know this, but even Japan had it's own version of TPiR.

Have a look at these:

Original Wikipedia article, in Japanese. http://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/ザ・チャンス! (http://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/ザ・チャンス!)

Same article ran through Google's translator, which doesn't handle Japanese well, sadly. http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=ja&u=http://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%25E3%2582%25B6%25E3%2583%25BB%25E3%2583%2581%25E3%2583%25A3%25E3%2583%25B3%25E3%2582%25B9!&ei=YuqtSvSyA8eZkQXb3MGVBg&sa=X&oi=translate&resnum=1&ct=result&prev=/search%3Fq%3D%25E3%2583%258A%25E3%2582%25A6%2B%25E3%2582%25B2%25E3%2583%2583%25E3%2582%25BF%2B%25E3%2583%2581%25E3%2583%25A3%25E3%2583%25B3%25E3%2582%25B9!%26hl%3Den%26safe%3Doff%26client%3Dsafari%26rls%3Den (http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=ja&u=http://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%25E3%2582%25B6%25E3%2583%25BB%25E3%2583%2581%25E3%2583%25A3%25E3%2583%25B3%25E3%2582%25B9!&ei=YuqtSvSyA8eZkQXb3MGVBg&sa=X&oi=translate&resnum=1&ct=result&prev=/search%3Fq%3D%25E3%2583%258A%25E3%2582%25A6%2B%25E3%2582%25B2%25E3%2583%2583%25E3%2582%25BF%2B%25E3%2583%2581%25E3%2583%25A3%25E3%2583%25B3%25E3%2582%25B9!%26hl%3Den%26safe%3Doff%26client%3Dsafari%26rls%3Den)

Unfortunately, no. I've been looking, but all I can find is a very small (& grainy) screenshot.
:-(

How interesting that one of the "pricing games" on this Japanese version was called "Rock Paper Scissors". This age old child's game is said to be the basis of a new pricing game on the CBS version.

I hate spreading bad news around.

All we know is that it is based on a "popular hand game we all played as children".

Some people have taken that to mean RPS.

Jan Ken Po seems to be common in Japan from what I know, so it doesn't surprise me they have a game based around it.

It looks some somebody has uploaded a clip of Japan's TPiR. This is one of their pricing games, you'll have to watch what's going on there.

To me this looks to be a variation on our "Race Game".  Instead of placing the correct prices on the prizes, you have to correctly guess the value of the entire package by placing the block with the correct number in its proper spot, and only after you have gotten the number right you can move on to the next number..  There is a timer, and on the set piece you can see 80", it looks like they played this game for a minute-twenty and perhaps the time limit is interchangable depending on the size of the prize package.  Interesting concept.

Seems to combine elements of Switcheroo, too. :-)

Anybody seen the English Wikipedia TPiR article recently?

Take a look under Japan's entry under "International Versions". It looks like a new version is already (or is about to get) underway there. Hope they don't try to make it too much like an average Japanese game show.

The current version is called "Kakaku wa Migidearu", which means "The Price is Right".

...Okay, this question is for Ceree only:  Do you actually have some reason to think any of this makes sense, or are you just making crap up?

With a bump this bizarre-looking in a three-year-old thread, the answer had better be "I actually have some reason to think this makes sense."

So you listed a bunch of probably at best halfway-accurate names that your browser translated that page into, and then you tried to guess what some of them were.

I appreciate the link, but you'll forgive me if I don't think this is all that informative.
