« Last post by gamesurf on Today at 02:51:12 AM »
It may have been better to wait until after enough season 42 WOF episodes have come and gone to ask here, but I might forget.

Ryan’s first tapings happened today. A few of us were lucky enough to make it out there. Even out of the gate, he was excellent.

HOUR POWER!

First Four: Right-to-left
Microphone Handoff: Janice

Bob announces that we're introducing a brand new pricing game today!

1st IUFB - A new stereo jukebox: Morse Electrophonic stereo jukebox with multicolored lights that flash to the beat of the music, AM-FM stereo, record changer, 8-track player recorder (Holly on the Turntable)

|LORI|JAMES|JUDITH|SANDRA|
|$875|$300|$350|$725|

Actual Retail Price: $760!

Sandra is walking the Golden Road!

The road begins with a can of Jolly Time popping corn, which will lead her to...

1. A refrigerator: Magic Chef 18.4 cubic foot energy saving no-frost refrigerator with extra-deep door shelves and automatic ice maker that makes ice as you use it (Janice)

If she wins that, she can also win...

2. A swimming pool: Muskin Corporation 15 foot by 25 foot oval above-ground pool complete with filter, maintenance kit, and skimmer (Dian)

And if she wins this, she can play for a fabulous prize! Open the doors!

3. Chevrolet Van Camp Van Trans 4 with all standard equipment, includes power steering, power brakes, air conditioning, auxiliary gas tank, cruise control, power windows, heavy-duty shocks, and California emission (everyone)

The price of the popcorn is...

62’

One of these numbers will be used to fill in the price of the refrigerator.

█ 3 8

Sandra picks the 6.

Correct! Next is the swimming pool.

1 █ 2 8

Sandra picks the 3.

1 3 2 8

2nd IUFB - A new barbecue: Silver Falcon gas grill and handsome outdoor cooking center to barbecue beautiful meals for 2 or 20, sturdy, easy-to-move, easy-to-operate, and top of the line (Janice)

|Lori|James|Judith|LEA|

Actual Retail Price: $519!

Judith is playing our newest pricing game called Hit Me!

She'll be playing for a fun things for your game room (Dian):
- Pinball Pool pinball machine that can be played with money or for free
- Murrey & Sons 3.5-by-7 handcrafted billiard table, with slate top antique design
- Gold Star 19-inch color TV, a deluxe model featuring remote control with bright, clear picture

This prize package is worth $3,856.

This game is essentially Blackjack. She will start by cutting the cards, and then the house will take two cards from the top of the cut deck. Only the second draw will be revealed now. The first draw will be shown later. (Note that there are only 34 cards in the deck, with 6 additional cards on the Hit Me board.)

The house begins with two cards, and today, the face up card is a 2 of Spades.

The goal of the player is to decide how much the prices are multiplied, which will determine the value of their card. For instance, a price multiplied by 6 can earn you a 6 of Spades. An exact price will earn you an Ace, which can be called 1 or 11. Easy enough if you know your multiplication.

The house or player must get as close to 21 as possible, but don't bust by going over!

The grocery products are:
1. Pack of Trident sugarless gum
2. Hai Karate Musk Cologne
3. Nestea Light Iced Tea with fruit tea flavor (makes 10 quarts)
4. New Brite for No-Wax Floors
5. Box of Ritz Crackers
6. Panel Magic Cleaner

|GUM|COLOGNE|ICED TEA|
|$4.90|$10.50|$15.33|
|FLOOR CARE|CRACKERS|CLEANER|
|$3.98|$7.12|$2.69|

Judith's first pick is the $4.90 gum... 49’, for a 10 of Hearts.
Judith's second pick is the $3.98 floor care... $1.99, for a 2 of Hearts. She is at 12.
Judith's third pick is the $7.12 crackers... 89’, for a 8 of Spades. She is at 20.

Judith stays.

The house starts with the 2 of Spades.

The face down card is a 10 of Clubs for 12. The house must hit.

The house gets a 9 of Hearts for 21. The house wins. That was tough.

Judith will still be back for the Showcase Showdown after another pricing game.

Bob points out that with a name like "Hit Me", it's a wonder that Judith didn't hit Bob after that outcome. :P

The next calldown, Ozie, comes up onto the stage, and Bob simply walks her around and to her spot. :P

Out In Left Field / Re: Hosting A Gameshow Revival / Following A Legend
« Last post by Chief-O on Today at 12:09:11 AM »
I can only pick one???

Ken would be my top choice. He hit the ground running at J!-----even his guest-host run was great. I do still find it weird that he is "the mega-champ who ultimately became the host"......but his hosting talent speaks for itself.

Of course, there's Drew.......he's definitely settled in to the role (and has been for a while), and he's made TPIR his own. He hasn't tried to "be like Bob", and he shouldn't.

Strahan is "Pyramid"'s best host since Dick Clark (though Donny was definitely not the problem with his respective version by any means). I will admit that the most recent seasons of the show haven't impressed me as much as the earlier ones (I guess I could put the NY > LA move as the "jump the shark" moment), but it's not his fault.

Out In Left Field / Hosting A Gameshow Revival / Following A Legend
« Last post by SeaBreeze341 on Yesterday at 11:57:40 PM »
It may have been better to wait until after enough season 42 WOF episodes have come and gone to ask here, but I might forget.  Maybe it'll be better during a TV season full of milestones.

Steve Harvey is in his 15th year, and TPIR is celebrating 10,000 episodes, where Drew will be hosting.

I once had my doubts since it's not easy to follow a legend and/or host a revival.  To be honest, it's difficult to host period.  However, I think everyone has done a fantastic job.  In fact, it's gotten to the point where everyone has hosted to the point where they've made the gameshow they're hosting their own.

So, no failure, at least for me.  However, I tend to flip between Drew & Ken when it comes to the "best" job overall based on expectations.

As mentioned, it wasn't easy a long time ago picturing someone other than a host that I grew up watching & was once used to that guy.  Things & times have changed

This show was, in my humble opinion, the worst of the 8 specials.  The contestants' pickings of double numbers was *hand-slap to the face* annoying.  The bonus in Switcheroo, as mentioned before, was bizarre and not handled very well.  In the first game, I would've stayed with the 25k--I could have definitely used the money much more than a car right now.  Just a weird show overall.  I also think they need to bring the Jackpot shows back next season or Big Money Week/Dream Car Week.  All of those shows are interesting to watch just to see what prizes show up.

Please tell me why the producers of the show allow the male models to wear swimsuits and not the female models. Is there sexism being played here. For example Devin presented a hot tub in one episode with a swimsuit on and today Manuela presented a hot tube with a dress on. This happens all the time. Explain.

Alexis does in fact, model in swimsuits. Also, you know as well as I do, James and Devin shirtless is far more attracting to the demographic of daytime television. There's no requirement that Amber, Manuela and Rachel have to.

This is my favourite era of the show; and the word I think best describes this time in the show's history electric.  The contestants go absolutely delirious when they are called.  The fast-paced camerawork conveys the intensity of the excitement in the atmosphere, and Barker's in fine form bringing out the best in the contestants without being a grump.
It's my favorite era too, and my fondest memories of watching the show when it originally aired.

Enough Already with the fur coat ban being an excuse to withhold these '70s episodes.  Release them from purgatory and air them already.  Pluto ... Buzzr ... somewhere.

And, if I'm reading one article correctly, the episodes on the debut will be some from when the former Goodson-Todman Productions became Mark Goodson Productions (1984-85)
I (foolishly) hoped they'd start with some hour-long episodes from the 1970s.  Now I'm wondering if those episodes will ever see the light of day, aside from what's already on YouTube.
