Curse you, Peanut Gallery!!! She had the El Cheapo in mind and you...did your thing... :( :P

Very nice to see NoT, but hasn't Clearance been played too much...?

Bonus spins seem to be falling on .90, .35, and .80 recently. :(

Mike did the worst he could do on the SCs, especially after losing OA...

Mike did the worst he could do on the SCs, especially after losing OA...

Yes, Mike gave a bad bid for his showcase, knowing that bedroom groups and spas usually go for far higher than they might at a mid-priced spa dealer and a discount furniture store. Spas usually go for more than $4,500, and way more than $1,500 on TPiR these days. And I don't think that you can buy Victoria's Secret sleepwear at Wal-Mart.

Then again, it all depends on where Mike does his shopping.

I was also including he passed a SC with a car (and a big one at that, probably 27k). Unless you're in primetime, that is never a smart move (I would think that <10% of the time do both SCs have cars).

Cliffy: Ikea kitchen! I would have one with one step to spare.
Clearance: I think we all got this one wrong in chat. I think that is the most expensive luggage I've seen on the show.
OA: This could have gone a number of different ways. I definitely thought 1 was the second number. Nice to see that the game wasn't rushed.
SBS: I thought for sure we were getting Dubba here. I must say this is one of the better quickies and is much more interesting than seeing DP constantly. Nice change of pace. As for today's game, it was very easy. 7599 just looked way better.

Showcases: Similar to yesterday. The whole wrist thing in SC1 was kinda dumb, but again, not the worst I've ever seen. As for SC1, I think it's fun to have hybrids in the showcases. Make it more interesting and more challenging to bid on. Major Grecoids on SC2. Like I said in the CSS thread, I was shocked to see this one break 20K, let alone 25K. Stage player's bid was awful. Second straight day we saw a 4-digit bid! I know these people probably aren't LFATs like we are, but that is serious lowballing.

Solid lineup. Cliffy and OA in the same show I'll take any day of the week. I also like when the SP and GP games are split up; one in each half.

Overall, still not as good as what we were seeing before Christmas, but enjoyable nonetheless.

Not much to say today as I missed the first two games (looks like El Cheapo struck again in Money Game though). Can anybody tell me what the Drew-entrance was today; I heard he did something but never heard what? (Yes, I know that they might read this and think "oh, they like the entrances" but no, really it's morbid curiosity...)

Solid lineup today. Well, an OK lineup that is solid compared to what we've seen recently since we timed out at 27.5 minutes and saw some lesser played games. Clearance has been getting a reasonable amount of play, and I usually strongly dislike seeing it show up, but it's been so darn long since we've seen a multi prize game I was excited about it today. Now...or Then is not usually a favorite either, but I was excited for that as it's seen infrequent play this year. Speaking of those games, that Now...or Then setup was absolute cake (at least with the lineup she chose, which is exactly what I would have done), whereas that Clearance setup SCREAMED forced loss. (If you weren't fooled by the fact that the computer was the cheapest, how could you predict the luggage would be the most expensive?) Of course, that's not the first expensive luggage we've seen on the show this year, so maybe we'll just have to pay attention to the fact that luggage is getting more expensive on the show now.

Was nice to see Side show up when I was sure it would be Dubbs sixth (another cake setup there). Also, Money Game is STILL NOT a good first game, but Adam, if you're going to use it so frequently in lineups, today was the way to do it - putting it in a lineup with a few longer, more interesting games (preferably mid-length) rather than forcing it in to rush through a lineup that has one longer game like Temptation or Holey. And no one's complaining about Cliff and OA. Could have flowed better overall (mainly because of that Money Game 1st), but this still had decent flow to it. And that covers things pricing game-wise.

Man, the wheel has been RED HOT lately. I feel like we hear "Dig We Must" every single day now.

Showcases, ehh: SC1 was very very dumb, but it had a theme out of the dumbness, so it's not the worst we've heard. As for SC2, it pretty much resembled one of the Christmas week showcases. Things were definitely starting to improve around this time. Also, SC2 was on major Grec-oids: CSSers should now take note that that CalSpa is EXPENSIVE.

Overall, solid but not overly spectacular show; Drew was mostly on the ball today (aside from briefly forgetting to explain the complete Now...or Then rules).

Yeah, I'm not overly fond of Clearance Sale, but it was kinda nice to see it instead of Eazy az 1-2-3 for the five millionth time.

I don't mind seeing Money Game when Temptation or Holey are played, I mean I've come to expect it showing up when either of those show.

Today's lineup was solid overall though it could have been slotted better. Here's how I would have slotted: Clearance Sale, Cliff Hangers, Money Game, Side by Side, Now or Then, One Away.

Money Game first is always blah, seeing Double Prices first would be much more exciting (i'm not kidding either) just for the sure shock value.

Money:  It's not very often anymore that 10 is offered as a choice in this game.  I knew that had to be the back half of the car.  Apparently, Caren knew, too... but she didn't pull the trigger.

Cliffy:  Shoot the IKEA kindling!

Clearance:  Yay!  Starcrossed! :P That was a forced loss, if I've ever seen one.  That was one cheap computer and one expensive set of luggage.

One-Bid #4:  Girls on trampolines! :P

Away:  Jeep Wranglers must've gone up in price for the 2009 MY.  I did not expect it to be $23,000+.

Side:  I like how this game has been getting an uptick in playing this season.  Double Prices needs a break.

SC #2:  $8,000?!  Stupid bid!  That doesn't even cover the spa.

My showcase bids:
SUV--$34,007
Room/spa--$24,507

How about (slotting may be weird):

Now or Then/Money Game/Clearance Sale/Side by Side/Cliff Hangers/One Away

The reason I put Now or Then first, is because I having a GP game to start off the day is cool (I know Hi Lo is the quintessential one for this, but I think other GP games will work fine).

I thought Grocery Game was. 8-). Talk about cool that would be cool seeing a non car/ and non cash/gp game starting things off. Speaking of which wasn't Grocery Game the last non cash/car gp game to be played first--I believe sometime back in 2002?

Grocery Game works, but, as Frank said, Hi Lo was so cool as game #1 when after the first IUFB, the models just wheeled it out.  See the November 19, 1996 episode in the Video Collection to see what I mean.  Hi Lo hasn't been played first since January 31, 1997, for those who are curious.

I'm not being facetious in the slightest when I say that unless the Christmas week had been such a good week of shows, I probably would have dropped off watching the show by now.  Man, I'm looking forward to getting the show back when the tapedates catch up.

I sensed from the way Drew handled Money Game that he knew ten was the correct choice for the last two numbers.  He put no emotion into it whatsoever.  It's a good thing Caren mentioned something about the ten before he revealed it.  It made it seem somewhat more genuine for him to display a reaction to it being the correct choice.

I really wish Drew would not encourage contestants to dance around as the mountain climber ascends the mountain.  I shouldn't have to give a reason beyond it's unbelievably stupid, but if I must offer another reason, it's because it takes the focus off the game.  It is a critical part of the game to pay attention to how far the mountain climber has climbed.  It's enough amusement in itself to just watch him climb.  Nothing needs to be added to it.

And, Drew, please, even just once, would you please call the mountain climber "the mountain climber" and not, "yodeley guy"?

Clearance Sale had quite the difficult setup.  If anything, I wouldn't have expected the laptop computer to be so inexpensive compared to the luggage.

Actually, Drew, I would think that you would know how Now.... or Then is played by now.

I didn't like how Drew was displaying so much favour towards Elizabeth in the second half of the show.  Sure, she had been there since the start of the show, but his remarks were coming off in such a way that it almost seemed like he was rooting for her over the other contestants, something Drew should never do because he should should have no bias.  Plus, it's stupid to go on and on about one of the first four contestants when there's still two or three rounds of bidding left.  It's not like it's come to "do or die" yet.

Drew needs to get back up on not getting so down with losses.  He didn't even handle the Side by Side win very excitedly after the One Away loss.

Aside from the lack of a proper introduction, the first Showcase was fine as far as formatting goes; but the theme itself was just plain dumb.  The second Showcase wasn't much better, though it did have perfect formatting:  a proper introduction, (somewhat) reasonable segues, and a proper conclusion with no stupid prize recap.  It was quite nice to see neither Showcase have any stupid prize recap tacked on at the end.  Thank you.

The full credits weren't in the episode on Innertube.  Has something changed there?

Today's lineup was solid overall though it could have been slotted better. Here's how I would have slotted: Clearance Sale, Cliff Hangers, Money Game, Side by Side, Now or Then, One Away.

Excellent lineup, Rob.

Money Game:  El Cheapo claims another victim! :-x  If Caren wanted to say 10, why didn't she say it instead of going with the peanut gallery!? ??? :rollold:
Cliff Hangers:  Good job! :-)
Clearance Sale:  Nothing right - tough loss! :-(
Now Or Then:  3 for 3 - nice! :-)  I think the panini would've been "now" too because I don't think those were around back in 1995.
One Away:  Another tough loss! :-(
Side By Side:  Nice job! :-)  I would've been totally shocked if the price would've been $9,975!

An okay show overall, IMHO.

Money Game: Once again, El Cheapo claims another victim. How sad!

Cliff Hangers: Well-played game here.

Clearance Sale: That one sucked big time!

Now...or Then: Nice to see it again, and a beautiful win to end it!

One Away: Damn, I wouldn't have gotten that one either.

Side by Side: Another great win to end the show. As much as I like Double Prices, that game needs some rest, and I hope they give this and other quickies some airtime.

Showcases: For the second day in a row, someone makes a stupid bid of $8,000 and loses because of it. I just hope tomorrow's show doesn't end in a trifecta, if you know what I mean. Come on, showcases worth less than $10,000 became less common in what, 1997???

I have to admit that I'm getting annoyed seeing car games and cash games being played constantly in the first slot. It leaves little room for unpredictability.

Exactly,

Unless you are sure of the other contestant overbidding and you bid one dollar on your Showcase, you should not do a conventional Showcase bid of anything LESS than $10,000.  It just makes players look like they are stuck in the late 80's-90's.  You also won't see many IUFB's at less than $500 or greater than $3000.  (That Rolex watch valued at over $4000 was a historic exception for a daytime version.)  IUFB's between $3000-$4000 are more reserved for Special Edition shows.

We all know that horrible misfortune of the $11,999 Showcase Retail Price and some poor soul bid $12,000.   But again this is an exception rather than the rule.  In fact, even on a conservative bid, I would go at a MINIMUM of $14,000 in today's market for the Showcases.  I think there is a concern of over-bidding, but we are seeing more than a few contestants on Showcase rounds bidding far too low.  My general range of Showcase bids, would be between $14,000-$25,000 on the daytime shows.  Maybe an additional $10,000-$15,0000 if some real expensive car was offered.  However, only doing that if such a final prize was offered.

Joe

Money: I too am getting bored to my knees seeing this played first as well. Please enough already!!! Caren had "El Cheapo" on her mind, but the mothalovin' audience ruined it for her.

Cliff: Very nice.

Clearance: Jeez!!!  :-o 8-O That's one big freaking expensive set of luggage!!!!  I bet the "Greco" had her way on this one.

NowThen: Very nice.

One Away: A Jeep Wrangler on steroids!!!  :-o 8-O Price left me agahast.

Side: No Double (Prices to be exact), YAYYYYY!!!!  :-D Good job.

Showcases: The first did have kind of a ridiculous setup, but I'll give them credit for not putting in a lot more ridiculousness. Can somebody please tell some players that less-than-$10K showcase have long been out the door?  :headbang:

A 3-star show.
