SC1 was fairly expensive, with Utah doing a lot of the work there. vhs recognized that Utah from the Cliff playing in the episode he was on a contestant on a fortituous twist into a high-bid cash

SC2 didn't end up much cheaper either, seems the crappy jewelry was 5k this time. AMG gets a DSW cash here, Beef with best raw.

Hey, I watched regularly in daytime and was a huge fan of the 94 version. 😉If I could have had it daily instead of random weekend times, Id have been there, not waiting for Bob the next day.

If you don't know Jerry West as a basketball player and executive, you MIGHT recognize his silhouette as it's the one used to this day on the NBA logo

well, this just broke https://www.cbssports.com/nba/news/jerry-west-dies-at-86-nba-legend-14-time-lakers-all-star-became-the-logo-eight-time-champion-executive/

Re: OJ Simpson: OJ was the final nail in the coffin for Feud, not Price. That show had been on life support for the better part of two years (viewers largely didn't give two toots about THAT show's changes other than being mildly happy but a bit confused that an older, greyer, quieter, bigger Richard was back) and OJ's ratings were the proverbial straw on the camel's back.

Otherwise, traditional TV is largely a habit-based industry and has been for years. Viewers were absolutely not going to be expecting to see Price is Right on at 4/5/6/7 PM (or 1:05AM) on [insert NBC/FOX affiliate here], THEN when they get there it's "that guy from Young and the Restless" and different models and announcer and a different set and different music and half the games are played differently and - viewers who weren't watching Price is Right already weren't going to see THAT and go "this, I like this" in calendar year 1994 (at the zenith of the newsmagazine and talk booms), while viewers who WERE already watching Price is Right? "Where's Bob?" "Why does the set look like THAT?" (I LIKE the set, but it's a departure). "They're bidding on old commercials? What? I'll just watch Bob tomorrow" *click*.

The TALK Is Right / Re: The Price is Right: The Barker Era on Pluto TV
« Last post by gsn93 on June 11, 2024, 07:07:07 PM »
Today's new eps. were the first ones taped with Gene Wood as announcer, and I gotta say...I finally get why Johnny O. was so great. Something about the his voice just scratched an itch in your brain and made it felt like he was talking directly to you. Gene, OTOH, just sounds overly bombastic to the point of being fake. In fairness to him, he had toned it down a bit by the time of the Home Viewer Showcase eps. (which were presumably taped later), but he (nor any of Johnny's other subs/eventual replacements) never truly nailed that natural, conversational style.

I had a similar realization when Buzzr started running the Match Game-Hollywood Squares Hour episodes with Johnny Olson filling in for Gene. Johnny's delivery didn't mesh well with the show. He never got the timing down for the opening titles (for example the Friday episode from the St. Elsewhere week he almost immediately segways from introducing Norman Lloyd to Gene and Jon). His best "fill in" weeks were the two with Bill Cullen and Bob Eubanks on the panels. Every other time it felt like he was just going through the emotions. He was a great announcer but Gene was better suited for the show.

IMO, Gene's voice fit the Dawson/Combs Feud eras better than TPIR
