the show wasnt quite that good. you had stupid bids, no big wins, some idiotic moves made by contestants, and no excellent bids in the Showcase. however, Drew amazed me yet again with his humor and "HI-YAH" method he brought to the show in Punch-A-Bunch. overall, the show had lots of downs, but it made "up" a bit with Drew's character.

3/5

Drew was really enthusiastic when he took the mic, and I thought that was a great way to start off today's show.

I really liked the green carpeting in Switch? today, it was a nice change of pace and it kind of recalled Price of the 1980s.  I wonder if Drew's comment about "they almost bumped into each other" will continue, maybe it will wear off after he plays the game more times.

Well, "Sam" is once again absent from Ten Chances, but they did a better transititon to "Bean Stalker."  Kevin took a very long time with the picnic equipment, and I personally thought that the price would be in the $600 range.  I also had a revelation on how the prize cards stay on top of the boxes-I saw what appeared to be duct tape on the back of them when Drew dropped them on the carpet.

Drew did the Punch A Bunch money reveals in a suspenseful manner.  Drew once again urged a contestant to yell as she punched out a hole.  It's a shame that Frances only won $100, she was having fun up on stage.

That 1 in Squeeze Play looked so out of place compared to the other 9's, in my opnion.

Card Game got another great player this season, Pearl.  She played the game for quite a while when she drew mostly low cards but it's great to see her win.

I could tell that this episode was taped out of order because the letters on Hi Lo still had the 1990-2007 "disco ball" material on them.  I will say that the setup was tricky for the average player today, it's a good thing Phillip changed his mind about the throat drops and chose the cleaner instead.

It's great that they put a backdrop in the Port O'Price showcase today; if only they could have done it with the Train Depot weeks ago...

1st IUFB- $1003, Pearl? Right after Kevin bid $1010?

SWITCH- fairly easy setup, there's no way that couch was more than $3000.

2nd IUFB-$5400? This isn't a MDS!

10C- $469?!? WHAT? Oh, and the ARP of the picnic equipment was $460, not $640.

PUNCHY- Ouch. A tough loss. I messed up two of those SP's myself.

4th IUFB- $3600? NO!

SQUEEZE- I picked the 1. It just didn't seem like it belonged there. And I would have won.

CARD GAME- I said around $18K for that car.

HI-LO- it was between the Pine-Sol and the Hall's, which I drastically overpriced...maybe that is because it does cost more than $4 for a package of Hall's around here...

SCSDs- no money today?

SCs- awful bids both ways, no way SC1 cost more than $20K, and I knew that SC2 was more than $20K.  However, I overpriced the trip to Alaska, and that cost me in CSS...

OVERALL- 2.5/5.  At least Drew is keeping the jokes coming...

Switch?: It wasn't an easy choice for me, but she pulls it off.

Ten Chances: Another good win. He made an awkward mistake with that 469, but he redeems himself and wins.

Punchboard: Total bummer there.

Squeeze Play: I knew she should've removed that 1.

Card Game: Wow. That was kind of long, but she manages to get the win.

Hi-Lo: He was lucky when he changed his mind to choose the Pine-Sol instead of the cough drops. Good win nonetheless.

I liked Frances--she seemed excited enough, like any other Punch a Bunch contestant this season--but she also seemed a little lost, especially when she was considering spinning again on 75¢.

Speaking of Punch a Bunch, the way Drew did the reveal on the final slip... eh.  He made it sound like it would be higher than a mere $100.  Not necessarily $10,000, or even $5000, but the teasing, even light, doesn't really work as well when it's a downer.

But then, I love the whole thing he does, pretending the models have a tough time not crashing into each other in Switch?.  Love it!  Drew was also notably excellent during Card Game!

Phillip seemed to know Frances had overbid on her showcase.  Anyone notice that he was considering bidding $1 before his showcase even started?  I think it's safe to say he deliberately underbid on his showcase, anyway.

I really like how Pearl played Card Game.  I was kinda' surprised she didn't stop long before she did--seems like some players take getting a bunch of low cards as a "sign" to stop sooner than they might have otherwise.

I don't understand why Kelly took out the 9 in Squeeze Play.  It looked like she wanted to take out the 1, and it seemed most of the audience was trying to get her to take out the 1... her taking out the 9 just seemed to come straight outta' nowhere.

The camera work during the seventh segment had to be some of the worst ever.  Between another camera getting in Phillip's way while he was coming on down, to the extraordinarily "uh..." non-reveal of the Senakot's price--which even makes the "usual" Grand Game price reveal seem awesome by comparison.

I don't think Kevin really knew how to play Ten Chances, but at least he knew exactly who to turn for help in the audience, and he deserves some credit for that.

Switch - AAAAAGH! It's hideous! Who in their right mind would pay $2845 for that couch?
Ten Chances - Got there eventually. I'm starting to understand what Brad Francini says about this being the easiest car game on the show.
Punch-A-Bunch - Is it just me, or has that speaker been on every day this season? I sort of liked the way Drew teased her even though she lost. With Bob, as soon as he started doing that you knew it was a big win.
Squeeze Play - I would've done the same thing.
Card Game - My bid would've been $16500.
Hi Lo - Sure seemed like they were trying to force a win today, although I've probably said that each time this game has been played this season.
Showcases - Today is the best I've done in CSS (double point days notwithstanding), and yet I was still last among scorers.

Switch?: Close prices, but I still would have switched. And the whole model thing with them bumping into each other seems a wee bit old. He should come up with something a little different each time.

Ten Chances: I thought $50 for the tool kit, $490 and then $460 for the picnic baskets, and I didn't catch the make of the car, but I thought $18,390 as a wild guess. It looked like he was following the 0 rule pretty well.

IUFB 3: He could try to pair up the prizes like that just a little bit more. :-)

Punch A Bunch: The bill might look a little better if Drew's face was the same color as the rest of the bill or like a regular bill. And what's with the screaming? :-D

SCS: Frances was convinced not to spin again on 75. Good choice? Possibly. :-)

Squeeze Play: The 1 needed to go badly.

Card Game: I figured around $18,000 for the car. I knew she stopped too early, but it didn't hurt her that much, as she had a fairly large range.

Hi Lo: The peanut gallery goaded him into changing his mind from the Halls. It worked in the contestant's favor -- this time. :-)

SCS 2: A show without 1.00? Is it possible!? :-D

Showcases: Is it just me, or was the turn table not finished turning when it went back from commercial?
Title: Re: FULL RECAP - TPiR 10/30/2007
Post by: wpghi5 on October 30, 2007, 04:23:15 PM
Switch?: I would've switched them as well.

IUFB #2: $5400 on a chandelier? Gimme a break here!  :oldevil:

10 Chances: A great win for Kevin considering his guess of 469 on the picnic baskets seemed rather off on his 3rd chance.

Punch-A-Bunch: Man that toaster oven was rather deceiving. I guessed higher too on that. What's even more deceiving is passing on both $500 slips and ending up winning only $100.  :-(

SCSD #1: Francis seemed a bit lost thinking she would spin on 75 cents. Luckily the peanut gallery convinced her to stay. Good job guys.

Squeeze Play: That game should've not been lost. It was set up for a win but unfortunately for Kelly she blew it.

Card Game: I would try for one more. Nonetheless Pearl ended up winning that car.

Hi-Lo: I would be wrong on this one and picked the Halls. Good for Phillip though.

SCSD #2: I wanted Pearl to win.

Showcases: Well based on the audience's reaction Francis' fate was unfortunately sealed as she went over. I think Phillip's bid sort of played it safe there.

?Switch?:  Yay!  Half-Off cue! :P Uh-oh--the return of the fugly marshmallow sofa!  Of course that was an easy switch.

One-Bid #2:  :wotc:

10C:  Boo urns!  No "Sam" cue again.  Aside from the dumb $469 guess, Kevin played it pretty good.  And I can't believe I'm actually saying that this game is 3-0 this season.  I can't remember the last season that 10C started out with three consecutive wins.

Punchy:  Have I mentioned yet that I love hearing the contestants yell while punching?

One-Bid #4:  CSS players, take note of this price!

One-Bid #6:  First appearance of the PS3 on this show, I believe.

SC #1:  AAAAAAA!  The return of the ugly golf cart GEM car!

My showcase bids:
FRPOPS--$15,504
:frbs: --$20,620

Drew was really "on" today.  Great show to watch, good contestants...good show all around.

Speaking of Punch a Bunch, the way Drew did the reveal on the final slip... eh.  He made it sound like it would be higher than a mere $100.  Not necessarily $10,000, or even $5000, but the teasing, even light, doesn't really work as well when it's a downer.
I have to disagree.  Having Drew do the reveal that way was downright neat.  You think the contestant has won a big value ($5K oir $10K), but they went too far.  He does need to mix it up a little bit...but that'll come with time

TPIR was pre-empted where I live, since I haven't seen Punch-a-Bunch played yet with Drew (I missed the previous playings too), I was wondering if anyone had a screen capture of the $10,000 bill with Drew's picture, I would like to see it.

Switch?-It's that weird marshmallow sofa again.  I thought this playing was a bit tougher than normal.  Tiffany didn't have any trouble, though.  Good decision to switch.

IUFB #2-That chandelier ain't made out of 18K gold, Ivan!

10 Chances-Is it just me, or do the numbers for the correct answer look alot bigger than last time?  He messed up on Chance #3, but recovered and won.

Punch-a-Bunch-Easy SPs again.  YAH! :-D  Shame the punches didn't go in her favor, though.

Squeeze Play-The 1 looked out of place, so I said that should've gone.

Card Game-All 3 times this game has been played this season, the contestant has picked the $3000 range.  And all 3 times, the contestant has won.  This game has been hot this season!

Hi-Lo-Really easy for 2 of the items, but the last choice was tough.  Good thing Phillip picked the right item and won.

Drew was REALLY funny today!

While I still think and agree with many that his "suspense" build up varies from game to game, this will get consistently better with time.

Did you tape, Tivo or DVR today's episode?  Watch the sequence when the IOFB's Chandelier just before it's presented.  Drew was rapidly moving his head and than looks up kind of surprised like it scared him!  (As if he forget that it was going to come down from the ceiling, LOL!)

Switch: Yikes! The dreadful marshmallow chair stirkes again.  Easy Switch.

10C: I can't the last time we had a 3-0 start.  Well played by Kevin, save for a stupid $469 guess.

Punchy: I guess the deep freeze returns.

Squeeze Play: That 1 stuck out like a sore thumb.

Card Game  I would have stopped at $18K and won this by $295.

Hi Lo- Am I imaging thing or is Drew's statement of "This is the easiest game" becoming true.

Switch?: I too was baffled by the playing today, but Tiffany came out good.

10 Chances: Kevin comes back after a tad slowing down.

Punch: Too bad about the outcome but Drew sure had some spirited delivery in this playing oday.

Squeeze: Too bad.

Card: Pearl is having the best anniversary ever!! Great win.

Hi Lo: It was a toss-up. Halls or Pine-Sol. Which would Phillip choose? Right decision was made.

Showcases: Well, I'm glad Pearl had fun at least. I was pulling for her, too.

Drew was in his best, today!!!

A 3-star show.

Switch?: Using a motorcycle on this game and a $3000+ price? I know what to do.

One Bid 2: The look on Drew's face as he notices the item coming down; kinda got me, too. Liked how he reiteraed the rule to Ivan.

Ten Chances: I don't know. I can understand Kevin getting some help from the audience, but did he really have to refer to them when all there is left is a zero on some of the chances? He played okay, but the slowness made my blood move a little.

Punch-A-Bunch: I groaned when Frances said higher for the toaster oven.

Squeeze Play: I  because I knew what to do. I  :-o when Kelly wanted the first 9 removed.

One Bid 5: "Cristel Bernard" sounds familar to me. I don't know why.

Card Game: Very good play, despite the low-card draws. That Fusion should not have been more than 19000 anyway.

One Bid 6: Makes me wonder what other video game packages were offered on the One Bids (or within a whole episode): An Atari 2600 package?  :-P

Hi-Lo: To think, I would have picked the freezer bags and lost. It was either that or the Pine-Sol.

Showcases:  8-O 21000 for a Port-O-Price Showcase? No.
(Well, there might be some times that might be okay, but not this time.)

Ten Chances took forever as usual, but I've noticed that Drew won't hurry the contestant up. He needs to start doing that.

HOTTIES: #18, Tiffany; #19, Kelly; #20, Cristel :-D
BEST CONTESTANT OF THE DAY: Frances

Wow.  Drew was great today.  I'm not gonna say he didn't have any weak moments -- in fact, he did, at the ends of Squeeze Play and Hi Lo -- but damn, he was on his "A" game for 95% of this episode.  For the first time today, it really felt like it was his show, and not just Bob Barker's show that he was the new host of.  Ten Chances and Punch a Bunch proved to me beyond any doubt that he can do this job and do it right.

I thought Drew's routine with shouting during Punch a Bunch was going to get old fast.  Apparently, I was wrong -- Frances was hilarious while she was doing that.

How the heck was Squeeze Play lost?

Wow...Card Game has aired three times so far this season, and it hasn't been lost yet.  That's amazing.  Less amazing but still interesting is the fact that, unless I'm mistaken, all three contestants have had a range of $3,000.

Speaking of Card Game...was anyone else afraid Pearl was actually going to go over?

Hi Lo was actually sort of hard today.  There's no way I'd ever have picked the Pine Sol.

"Stallwort Stingington III"?

Punch-a-bunch: I liked how Drew referred to the board as the “Punch-a-bunch board” rather than the Punchboard.  I guess this is just because references to the Punchboard made some people believe this game’s official name is (or was at one point) Punchboard.

Squeeze Play: It’s hard to believe that this game was lost.  I don’t think it made a matter if someone had the seen the prize.  The 1 was just begging to be removed.

Card Game: It’s surprising how many low cards Pearl drew.  Throughout the game, I was thinking that Pearl would stop too soon, because she might have been thinking of draw a set number of cards rather than reach a certain price.  Does anyone know the most number of cards drawn in this game is?

SC1:  My Bid: $16,400 / Diff: $ 1,323

Drew was really good today, he definitely has his own unique style. I loved how openly he laughed about the V8 thing with the silverware, there's an odd pair if you've ever seen one.

Anyone catch Drew's bobbing back and forth near the camera as he threw to break after the first SCSD? I thought that was pretty funny. I also got a kick out of the way he chided the one contestant for bidding $5400 for a one bid.

As for the games.....
Switch: Pretty simple playing today.
Ten Chances: It took him a little bit to get the feel for the game today, but once the contestant did it was fairly smooth sailing for him.
Punchboard: The contestant was really into it with the screaming lol, too bad she didn't win more.
Card Game: Not too difficult, helps to have that $3,000 range.
Squeeze Play: Another fairly easy one here with $4995 sticking out.
Hi-Lo: Not too difficult, was pretty clear what the 3 highest priced products were.

Seems like Drew likes to give contestants more chances to change their minds on games (if the audience doesn't seem to agree with a decision) then Bob did. I'm kind of on the fence on this. What do you guys think, good/bad?

Speaking of Card Game...was anyone else afraid Pearl was actually going to go over?

Considering that in order to do that, she would have had to draw about six more cards with the rate she was going...no, can't say I was.

Hmm...I guess I just have no idea how much Ford Fusions cost, then.  Oh well.

Go between the prices of a Chevy Malibu and a Pontiac G6 and you're about right.

Hi all,

If you remember this one..... The crowd was telling me to choose the cough drops instead of the Pine-Sol, I was telling myself that Pine-Sol must be more so I went with the Pine-Sol.

In the SC I knew as soon as she bid that she was over, as you can see in my photo I said "1 dollar drew" but bid low just to be safe,

I knew I was going to be picked that day as Stan gave me a hint in the interview, If your going to a show taping and would like to know what I did to get picked PM me and I will PM you back.

Why not just post it?  I feel pretty safe in saying that there's no surefire trick to getting picked beyond being yourself and showing genuine excitement.

How much of an insider thing could it have been if you did it before you were hired?

So in other words, Stan never gave you any kind of a hint -- you just noticed him doing something that you assumed was meant to indicate to someone else that he was going to pick you.
