That was a pretty good show, except Card Game had the potential to be evil, as not even $19,700 would've covered the spread, and Terry had rare bad luck on Secret "X" by missing out on the second SP and then losing out on the watercraft. But I'm so glad that It's in the Bag had a $16,000 winner

If I had played Cardy today and drew the ace, I'd have set the price at $20000. That means with the ace today, I'd have lost with the $1000 range but would have won with the $2000 played under today.

Baggy was totally awesome baby! Estevan went all in on himself and his picks and it paid off with a full $16000 win.  This was the segment of the show  for sure.

Great to end the day with a Money Game win. People should know better than to pick the season number in Money by now but Joaquin made a nice recovery to win the Chevy Sonic.

All and all a pretty good dwy.

Someone really needs to point out to Drew that when he fans the cards out on the new, larger Card Game table, he makes it so the contestant literally cannot reach some of the cards from their spot at the table. The table is so large and Drew does a very poor job using the right parts of the table to play the game. I can’t be the only one who notices this.

I wonder if the producers, knowing this, purposely put the aces near the top of the deck, so that when the deck is fanned out the aces end up near the scoreboard, out of the contestant's reach. I doubt it, however; doing so would seem to me like an S&P issue, because the contestant is purposely being put at a disadvantage, but it's an interesting thought.

I really think people overthink things.  There’s nothing stopping the contestant from walking over to an out of reach card and grabbing it, right?  No physical barrier, and no one telling them “these cards over here - you.... you just can’t have them”

Well, yeah, but people generally don't do that. After all, "one card is as good as any other, so why bother to go allllll the way over there for something when the same exact thing is available right in front of me?"

But when you start espousing conspiracy theories about stacked decks, or tables designed to make the game hard to play, that's when you are getting into overthinking things territory.

Except...it's not "the same exact thing." There are 52 cards in a regulation card deck far as I know, and no two are identical. The contestant is in no way disadvantaged as long as all 52 cards that are supposed to be there are there.

Casey's right--knock it off with the conspiracy theories.

There's no S&P issue here. If Cardy is set up so that contestants are less likely to draw the ace, that's really no different from difficult price setups in Lucky and Stacky. It might make the game less winnable but would not create an S&P issue. The only way there could be an S&P issue would be if they deliberately excluded the ace from the deck of cards in a particular playing. Otherwise no S&P issue.

I think the difficulty with reaching the cards distant from the contestant is an issue.  Heck, didn't Roger admit that the highest option on the Cover Up board was an issue for shorter contestants? Since then the correct digit is never in the top spot.

That being said, I don't believe that they are stacking the deck in Card Game.

Again, nothing stops you from grabbing any card from the deck you want.

That being said, I don't believe that they are stacking the deck in Card Game.

I never said they were. I'm just saying they could, theoretically. I know I didn't say that in my original post but that was my intent.

I'm just saying they could, theoretically.

That's absurd. Stacking the deck, or rigging any game in any form for that matter, is unlawful and would result in a massive lawsuit, and is therefore practically (as opposed to theoretically) impossible. It doesn't matter if you said they were or not--you raised the idea, and we're right to call you out on how massively unrealistic it is.

My suggestion to you from now on--think before you post. If something's blatantly against the law, it's not going to do you any favors to speculate about possible ways they could be doing it. It's also rather silly to raise a possibility, and then say that you doubt they're doing it. If you doubt they're doing it to begin with...why even bring it up?

^I'll defend his logic on the fact that from the evidence I collected for Card Game, the range cards aren't randomly shuffled. There is evidence to suggest that the cards near the ends , on average, are worth more than the cards closest to the center of the contestants, and the card furthest away from the contestant, on average, had the highest value. Although Casey is right in saying there is nothing preventing them from picking any range card they want, the reality is that across 97 recorded playings, only three people chose the range card furthest away from them.

However, Drew explicitly stated during this taping that the deck was shuffled and cut before the show, so you can't make the same argument regarding the aces in the deck. Since that is explicitly stated, that is illegal.

Was that Card Game or was that in Hit Me (for the cards for the house)?

I about died when the person who won It's in the Bag spun before the person who won Switch?.

That said, It's in the Bag was won!  Yay!

I am very disappointed that the fourth Item up for Bids wasn't $1,202.

The Showcase winner's total was gold instead of silver.  I wonder if that'll be a permanent change.

And guys, with the current special deck, there is no way for a Card Game contestant to overshoot the price of the car with a single draw unless they add too much money with an ace of their own accord.  Calm the hell down.

I'm not sure what all the hubbub is over Card Game all of a sudden.

In addition to a couple of the other arguments debunking the idea that the game is intentionally made ... well, more difficult ... in this episode, the contestant chose to stop at a price that ultimately lost (being more than $1,000 below the $2,000 range he needed to be in to win). That's happened countless times throughout the history of the game – contestants stopping too early – and this instance was no different.

If you've got a problem, write the producers.

The only reason I mentioned Card Game in the first place was because Drew really should fan the cards out so that the contestant is able to reach all of them.

With the new table, someone on the staff should notice this and let Drew know to use a different part of the table to spread the cards.  The new table is absolutely massive.  Is that the largest table in TPIR history?  What table is/was larger?  In this episode's playing, the contestant would have had to ask Drew to move or ask Drew to grab the card for him if he decided to go for the far end of the special deck.

The only reason I mentioned Card Game in the first place was because Drew really should fan the cards out so that the contestant is able to reach all of them.

Why? We've already established that there's nothing preventing the contestant from doing whatever they need to do to get the cards that are out of immediate reach.

With the new table, someone on the staff should notice this and let Drew know to use a different part of the table to spread the cards.

Why? There's nothing wrong with what he's doing.

The new table is absolutely massive.  Is that the largest table in TPIR history?  What table is/was larger?

I think it actually is the largest playing surface table they've got (not counted are the It's in the Bag and Check-Out counters).

In this episode's playing, the contestant would have had to ask Drew to move or ask Drew to grab the card for him if he decided to go for the far end of the special deck.

And...? There's nothing preventing the contestant from doing either one if that's what they want. Drew's relative inexperience as a Blackjack dealer shouldn't be held against him since Card Game is about 1/70th of his job. We've already established that the contestant can have whatever card they want; at some point there's only so much the show can do, and it becomes the contestant's responsibility to ask for what they want.

What is one reason why Drew should not fan the cards out where the contestant can reach them. I’m failing to come up with a single one but it sounds like you have a list prepared of reasons why this makes sense.
