Due to a snow day, this was the first episode I've actually "seen" on regular TV in a while.  (Thank God, since Innertube doesn't want to put up episodes in any reasonable time frame, but that's another thread...)

For me, the best parts of the show were: (1) Rich's face time during the third onebid, and (2) Brandi's announcement.  I liked the presentation of the TV with Rich being shown as he read the description - certainly hearkens back to the Rod Roddy days when he would do that  (I was only waiting for Lanisha to "grab" the remote the way they did that with candy packages ;-) ).  And, Brandi's maternity announcement was great news, and somehow seems so appropriate on today's show!

Drew really didn't need to make such a big deal out of Rich's goatee... three times.  He may have said something during the third onebid, but I didn't think it was necessary beyond that.

Since I didn't catch Thursday's episode online, this was the first episode I saw with the plasmas.  My take on them: they have potential.  Perhaps R. Brian DiPirro could find some interesting uses for the rear screen besides displaying trips.  Rich doing a calldown would be neat.  Displaying trips on them I think will seem kind of awkward.  The center of attention should be on the stage, and if the screen in back is displaying a trip, audiences might begin looking to the back, which is kind of a no-no on television.  The smaller ones are, well, too small.

The format of the show worked out well, and I kind of liked this special themed-show.  For me, it made more sense than the Halloween episodes, or the 4th of July, or the up-and-coming CMA show.

Oh, and BTW, Swap Meet is played!  Any time we get a MP game besides the "usual" I feel especially happy anymore!

Upon hearing that couples would be playing the game, I decided to not pass my judgment until I saw the show for myself.  I did just that today and here are my thoughts on it.

This is probably the first time since the Cullen version of the show that a vintage restored automobile was offered as a prize, not counting the restored Mustang on the Game$how Marathon episode of the show.  Personally, I would think that it would be worth way more than $22,900.  I guess they had to factor in depreciation since 1975 as well as the cost of restoring everything to showroom condition.  What's interesting about the car is that the 1975 model year was the last one that featured Corvette convertible for 11 years, as well as the first time the car had a catalytic converter.

I never thought I would say this, but yay for Swap Meet showing up!  Hopefully we will see some more games that have been MIA for some time come up again in the coming weeks.

I want to say a congratulations and good luck to Brandi on her pregnancy.  Not that it's a bad thing, but I wonder how often Drew will mention her expected children from now until May or June, when she presumably goes on maternity leave.

The wheel has been hot and we have another $11,000 winner on it!

Personally, I wonder how the couples were instructed to act during the show.  It seems that the women were always at the mic with their partners behind them, I would think they would take turns throughout the show.  The same goes for Let 'em Roll, spinning the wheel (if it applies), Lucky $even, and Punch-a-Bunch.

The banter with Rich and Drew before the sixth item up for bids' reveal was just unnecessary.

Geez, the second Audi this season!  Personally, I can't help but think that they wanted both showcases to be won with a price of $50,250 for the second one and the fact that $50,000 is a nice round amount to bid.  It's a shame that Ian and Nancy lost, they were fun to watch throughout the show and I was rooting for them.

Overall, I think it could have been worse, Drew or Rich could have been dressed as Cupid and we could have had showcases as bad as the Fried Chicken, Pie Fight, and LA Kings one, but today's weren't that bad.  I really didn't see any issues with having two people on stage playing a game that was designed for only one person, and I think it worked out decently.  We had plenty of surprises today like that vintage Corvette, the Audi, and Swap Meet showing up after almost two months of being MIA.

One thing I find interesting, possibly a hidden message, the "Cupid fired 3 Strikes" at the end of showcase #2.  Does it hold any water?  We will find out in time...

You know, what I feared would happen did indeed happen.  Most of the couples seemed to have been chosen for only half of the couple.  Aside from spinning the wheel, Jeffrey and Francis pretty much didn't do anything!  For most of his appearance, except for right when he got up on stage, Gary seemed to be actively hiding!  I was worried about this... it's got to be hard to find nine great contestants.  It's got to be infinitely harder to find nine great couples, and, well, two out of nine isn't really that good.  Though to Stan's credit, he can only do so much, and I'd imagine this sort of selection process was new to him, and probably harder to find the gold today because of the different process.

Ian and Nancy, and Hein and Linda seemed to be the only two couples for which both members seemed to be in the whole spirit of the show, and seemed in love--kinda' sweet to see, really--but we got what we got, and two fun couples are better than zero :).  Still, real shame Hein and Linda didn't get into the showcase.  And that Ian and Nancy lost the showcase.  Ah well.

I've never been so happy to see Swap Meet before.  Still wish they'd go back to the old staging for the "first prize," though.  Really looked better not pushed back against the door.  Still wonder what reason they'd change it for.

Anyone notice the line "Cupid fired Three Strikes" in the showcase?  Is there a hidden meaning to that, one wonders....

First off, Congrats to Brandi and Dean on their upcoming bundles of joy!! I guess we'll be down to 4 models for a while, starting in May. Hope no new models appear. It'd be great if Shane came back, but I seriously doubt it. You know after Drew announced that Brandi was pregnant it started to make sense. I noticed that Brandi has not been modelling as many prizes with swimsuits as she had before.

I enjoyed today's show. I know some may not, but the format worked surprisingly well.

Let Em Roll for a vintage Corvette was interesting. I just don't really get why a vintage Corvette and not a new 2009 Corvette. It would have been fun to play 3 Strikes for a 2009 Corvette but there's another hopeful wish that was not gonna happen.

Hey, we saw a new pricing game today: SWAP MEET  ;-) 8-O!!! I'm glad to see not all these multiple prize games are being tossed aside. I hope the rest return soon.

Punchboard 5th was nice to see. The small prizes were definitely not as difficult as last time.

The showcases were good. I figured out that the contestants are looking at a monitor on stage when they showed the trips off at the screen behind the audience. Ian and Nancy kept looking towards the doors when Rich was describing the trips so they must have been looking at a monitor. By the way, is Drew still writing the showcases or did he give up?

Speaking of Rich, I'm so glad he got rid of his goatee in upcoming shows. Just as I thought, Drew kept going on and on about it. It was getting extremely annoying today.

The banter with Rich and Drew before the sixth item up for bids' reveal was just unnecessary.

Especially when you can tell it's scripted.  The banter between Rod & Bob (or Johnny & Bob) always was genuine and seemed natural -- these exchanges between Rich & Drew just seem forced.

I actually guessed $50,000 for Ian/Nancy's showcase, as a stab in the dark. I think it's cool every once in a while to have a blind guess set up for a possible DSW.

I thought today's show went well. It wasn't perfect by any means, but it could have been much worse than it was. It seemed a lot less awkward than similar "Millionaire" and "WOF" shows. The classic Corvette was a great first prize.

Drew mentioning Rich's beard more than once was indeed unnecessary.

I am glad the showcases were normal. Seeing Drew or Rich dressed as Cupid had crossed my mind.

I found that line to be very odd. It had absolutely nothing to do with the showcase that was being presented, so it did strike me as a little odd that they would put it in there, almost like they intentionally wanted to hint something to the fans.

A couple of things I want to add...

I really liked how Bart showed Rich describing the TV on the TV itself.  He hasn't done that since 2002 at the latest, when Rod's camera time was removed.  The way Rich and Lanisha "fought" over the remote kind of reminded me of Carlos' videos showing the effect of the model dropping something into the TV and Rod catching it, be it candies or some other grocery item.

The set decorations were pretty good, but they seemed to back off on the turntable for some reason, I do like that they had a heart pattern on the plasma screen.

Since the Barrett-Jackson car auction took place not long ago, I checked to see if the Corvette offered was from said auction. Although there were some '75 Corvettes, none matched the one shown on today's episode. Nonetheless, it was a great surprise to see.

The format was interesting and enjoyable to me today.  I wouldn't want to see it every day, but I like these special episodes, when they are done well.

A few things I noticed....
1.  The "holding pen" for contestants on the right had the blue slip covers today.  Is this new?
2.  I like the reveal for trips on the back plasma screen for pricing games.  It causes the contestant to be looking in a good direction for reaction shots by the cameraman.
3.  Scanning the crowd today, it appears that there were a few same-sex couples, or perhaps just a few audience fills.  Not that there's anything wrong with that....
4.  The Swap Meet price reveal thingy needs some WD-40
5.  Stingray...VERY hot prize!

Rich has a goatee...I get it...now stop it...

They showed up after Ten Chances yesterday. They weren't there at the beginning, but showed up after someone was sitting there.

Quote
The distribution and dollar amounts on Punch-A-Bunch really needs to be changed. $50 shouldn't even be on the board.
I agree that the distribution needs to be different, but eliminating the $50 prizes is akin to taking the $0 slots off the Plinko board.

I forgot to mention above, first time I saw the trip introductions from the back of the audience for the first time today. Works better than I thought it would, but it begs the question: What the heck was wrong with showing trips behind the big doors?

I haven't been very vocal about changes to the show, as I felt some of them would be inevitable, but really this one smells like a change just for the sake of making a change.

I'm mildly confused by this sentence. Are these not Brandi's first two children on the way? For some reason I thought Shane and Gwen were the only recent models to have children.

This was easily the best show in Season 37 so far, with Drew at the top of this game.  I couldn't believe my ears when they offered a vintage Corvette for Let 'em Roll, but somehow, I have this feeling that we could see more vintage and classic cars in future Showcases--just like what we saw on G.S.M.  Someone pointed out in chat that a few of the couples were trying to hide from the camera, but maybe I'm missing something.  The Showcases were fairly good today, but those trips in SC-1 were odd.

Pros:
  • Drew is right - that '75 Chevy Corvette Stingray was quite possibly the coolest prize the show has offered... ever. Anybody know if the show offered one back in 1975?

I seem to recall on my DVD set, that one of the early episodes featured a 'Vette. I don't have them handy at the moment, but I do remember they played Any Number for it.

That particular Corvette was supplied by a "classic Corvette" dealer called "Corvette Mike's". If you look at their website, that same car is still up for sale. I wonder if they declined delivery of it....

The couples thing worked out better than I thought.  Although I think it could have been better (couples should have taken turns more often).

The Corvette was awesome.  I so want one.

Holy crap, Brandi is pregnant!!!  With twins nonetheless!!  I was totally blind-sighted by this news.  With Shane and Gwen's pregnancies, I was able to figure it out before it was announced.  I totally wasn't expecting this news.  Congrats to Brandi and Dean.

I didn't think this show was all that great. The couples thing itself worked for the most part, but I thought the lineup sucked and Drew was all over the place today IMO. Let go of the fact that Rich has a goatee! I thought the lineup could've been 10000000000000000 times better than it was. I thought PLINKO would be more fun than Punchy (although I love that game), starting off with something more exciting like maybe 3 Strikes or Golden Road. We've got couples, play Pick-a-Pair. Most of the games played aren't two-player friendly. If they make this an annual thing, they REALLY have to work on the lineup more.

PaP isn't exactly a 2P compatible game. In fact, none of the games are designed to be 2P, although I agree Plinko would have worked well. But the last two eps of this week were taped 1/5/09, the rest on 12/18/08, if I recall correctly. Maybe they didn't think far enough ahead.

As for the lineup...it was a bit underwhelming, I agree. Why Punchy in the 2nd half? DP twice in one week and in the same position? Help! But Swap was good.

I should've explained that one a bit more. Not so much as a two-player compatible game, but you've got a couple playing Pick-a-Pair.

CBS posted a video shot during a stopdown Nancy proposed to Ian (http://www.cbs.com/daytime/the_price_is_right/video/video.php?cid=446415129&pid=Jg1e_uS0bxJsWl0sVlSeqOjMPOPZziMV&category=recent&play=true) (yeah, you read that right). Drew has a pretty good joke at the end... lol

Interestingly enough, Drew says NANCY won the 'vette (and the $10,000), not Ian. I'm guessing the way the show was set up, only one of the contestants actually "won" the prizes, even though legally speaking, they could both win and own the prizes "indivision", even as an unmarried couple.

Maybe she wanted to spare him the embarassment of the woman proposing to the guy. That was by far the oddest proposal I've ever seen in my life. I wonder if that was a spur-of-the-moment thought from her because of the situation and excitement.

Well...this didn't suck.

LET 'EM ROLL: Now THAT'S how you start the day!

FREEZE FRAME: Honestly...that was painful.

SWAP MEET: Fingers, when's the last time...? Brandi, may you have much success with your child!

SHOWCASE SHOWDOWN #1: Sometimes, the Wheel slows down enough that you KNOW you'll win some bonus cash.
============================================
LUCKY PAIR $EVEN: ...Yeah, that was bad. Seriously.

PUNCH-A-BUNCH: Painful. And incredibly so. Minimum should be $250 - no punch should award you the "Screw You" Prize that is $50.

DOUBLE PRICES: Yep, there's a win.
============================================
SHOWCASES: Hm. Showcase #1 looked to be a Dennis James-caliber one the way it just kept going. Showcase #2...a bit less interesting.

RULING: Three losses and a STUPID joke in IUFB #6...but three wins, $11,000 on the Wheel, and a Showcase win - not to mention the whole "Couples" thing (and a 1975 CORVETTE!)... 7/10 (B-)

Wow, this show was actually great!  I liked how the set was all decorated for Valentine's Day.  I think that's a record for the most people ever in Contestant's Row...nine during the 5th one-bid. :-o

One thing that I wish could've been done was to make the lineup seem more couple-oriented.  When I first had heard of them making a Valentine's Day show, I created a lineup revolving around couples: 1/2 Off, Temptation, One Right Price, Side by Side, 2 for the Price of 1 (car), and Pick-a-Pair.  At least swapping Punch-a-Bunch for 1/2 Off would've made me a bit happier.

The good thing about the lineup, though: We got to see Swap Meet!  That was a rare treat.

That was so awesome to see Rich on the TV during the 3rd one-bid instead of Drew.  Kind of a throwback to the 90s when Rod used to be on TV describing the prizes.

I sure thought we'd get a big amount ($5K+) in the corner today.  Instead, we got a measly $50.

That 1975 Corvette looked freakin sweet! :-D

Pros:
  • Drew is right - that '75 Chevy Corvette Stingray was quite possibly the coolest prize the show has offered... ever. Anybody know if the show offered one back in 1975?

I'm so glad you asked.  Setting the WABAC Machine to Sept. 2, 1975, I want you to listen over my left shoulder...

SWAP MEET!!! :):):)

Okay, now that that's out of the way...this worked decently.  They didn't really change anything beyond having two contestants at a time, and it played out just fine.  Still, there were some things they didn't do that really would have made sense on an episode like this, most notably playing either Switch? or 1 Right Price for two cars (and yes, I know they've both been played already this week...but hey, so was Double Prices).  Also, did they really need to force that Corvette into Let 'em Roll when there was no good reason not to drag out 3 Strikes?

I'd like to point out that disregarding schedule shuffling, this was the first playing of Swap Meet since Thanksgiving, and the first playing of any multiprizer besides Race Game since December 3.  I hope to hell this is a sign of things to come.

Speaking of Swap Meet, Drew didn't really explain it all that well.  Of course, if they'd play it once in a while (HINT, HINT), maybe he'd be able to get it down pat.

I loved how they showed Rich on the TV in the third IUFB.  It was a nice throwback to the Rod Roddy era.

It was very nice to see a cash game show up fifth.

Did anybody else start to think of fried chicken the sixteenth or so time Drew mentioned Rich's beard?

And call me soft, but I enjoyed seeing some of the couples kissing after they won their games.

Well, if the show still had time for 28.5-minute lineups, 3 Strikes would have fit in very nicely today.  But in the wake of the time cuts, a whole new lineup of games would have had to been done to accommodate 3 Strikes (Unless its timing has changed from 7 minutes in recent years or since the rule changes)...

Come to think of it, all they needed to do was swap out Let em Roll and Punch a Bunch and put 3 Strikes and One Wrong Price in their spots and the lineup would have timed out to 26.5 minutes.  They even could have played Any Number, Pocket ¢hange, Card Game, and some others with that extra .5 instead of Lucky $even.

My take on this Price of Love:

Let 'em Roll: For a 1975 Corvette??? I was sort of expecting a 2009 Vette, but those two rolls were all they needed to win the car!

Freeze Frame: I knew they stopped one click too soon.

Swap Meet: Good to see this played again. And hooray on the win!

Lucky $even: What a heartbreaking loss!

Punch-a-Bunch: Ditto here.

Double Prices: Sweet way to end the show, with a win.

Showcase Showdown: $11,000 to a lucky couple makes the show all the more enjoyable!

Showcases: The couple who bid on the Audi Showcase was within DSW range. Too bad they went over, though.

Miscellaneous: Today's show was the first one I remember seeing with the new plasma screen behind the audience, and I think it's a welcome change from those distracting green screens from the first half of the season. And I was kind of shocked at seeing Rich with a goatee! That thing makes him look old. Another thing: Seems that lately, a lot of times we've seen them lower the Race Game Curtain behind Drew shortly after he makes his entrance. Well, that's my two cents, but I really enjoyed this show from start to finish. Now, I'm ready to see Bob...

Any pricing game, when played by couples, would have to be played by having one member of the couple verbalize the team's answer to the host. But why would they play Let 'em Roll and Punch-a-Bunch, two games where one person gets to do something while the other person just stands back and watches? Where's the teamwork in that?

That was hard for a Let 'em Roll setup, especially since it was the first game. Most people would think that anything is less than $9.56. It's a good thing that Ian and Nancy got lucky with that first roll, but I thought the groceries in Let 'em Roll were always supposed to be really easy.

I haven't watched in a while, so maybe it's been this way, but this episode felt a little jarring in places, like it was edited. Especially in Freeze Frame, where they cut to a shot of the audience, then to the split-screen of the contestants and the price. Drew said "So four nights in Hawaii" after the audience shot, like there was a conversation that was edited out, or else he was just trying to interject something after a long period of silence.

As for the television in the back, I agree that it looks small in comparison with the old trip skins, but there's no way to fix that, as a huge screen in the back of the audience would look too out-of-place on The Price is Right. It's definitely better than the green screens... when they revealed the trip to Hawaii, you could tell that Travis knew it was Hawaii.

I too got sick of hearing Drew go on and on about Rich's goatee. We get it. It's not that big of a deal.

I liked how the lights around the doors flashed when $10,000 was won on the wheel.

It was funny how after Michael and Donna bid one dollar more than Jeffrey and Cristi and gloated about it, Jeffrey and Cristi bid one dollar more than Michael and Donna... and won!

I'm surprised all of the items up for bids weren't suited for couples. The bracelet I can understand, since it had a heart, but a refrigerator? A refrigerator is a nice prize, but it doesn't scream "couple" to me. Couldn't they offer something like his and hers golf clubs?

It was too bad to see Ian and Nancy overbid. They were likable contestants, and it's nice to see contestants who aren't afraid to bid a large number on an expensive showcase.

It's good that they planned for what to do when a showcase of trips is won, to use those televisions on the stage, although unlike the trip skins, if more than one person stands in front of the television, you can't see what it's displaying. And if they had two screens on either side of door #2, why was everybody standing between door #2 and door #3?

I guess Drew is getting better again. At least, I didn't notice him do anything annoying, other than mention Rich's goatee 1,200 times. He didn't really add anything to the proceedings, and it sounded bad when he had to keep cutting off his conversations during the Showcase Showdown because the wheel was coming to a stop, but at least he didn't get in the way of anything. And the showcases weren't confusing. So I guess he's improving back to where he already was last season.

Finally, of course, congratulations to Brandi!

Well, this looks like this is going to be an interesting episode...

Let 'em Roll: For some reason, autos have been on mind today: First going to the auto show and now this: a restored 1975 Stingray. Nice, nice.

Freeze Frame: 2318 for any type of trip to Hawaii? No.

Swap Meet: I had this strange feeling a while back that Brandi was.... well, I know for sure now.

Why did I think a proposal was forthcoming? Maybe I was thinking about the other proposal that's going to be on the other show..

Lucky Seven: Oh, you would just wish that every couple win their games, but it's not going to happen.

Punch-a-Bunch: Ditto.

One Bid 6: ....Even when it comes to bidding to get on stage....

Double Prices: Ah, that's what I like: a couple winning a waverunner for two.

Showcases: I was just scared that Ian/Nancy would overbid... and I was just looking at the Audis today at the auto show, thinking 53850 is an underbid. I was wrong.
Yes, the (Three) (s)trikes mention did seem a little odd.

There are two problems with offering that Stingray in a game like 3 Strikes.

1. The price was $22,900. That's not a 3 Strikes price, even with the rule change.

2. Even with a price attached to the car, that's not an MSRP. I don't think the producers would want to put contestants in a position where they have to guess a price other than a MSRP, because it's more more subjective and variable.

I have a feeling the choice of game for the car was thoroughly discussed; Let 'em Roll seems to me like the most exciting car game where the price is given.

All and all I thought today's show was cool. It was fresh, it was different from the repetition we've been seeing. I just wish there had been more opportunity for cooperation. What if they developed a 2-player game to be played only on shows like these (assuming there are more in the future, likely for V-Day)? It could be on the excitement level of Golden Road and Triple Play, but made specifically to put some focus on how the show changes when two contestants are on stage together.

Anyone find it odd that Rich still said "You are the first four contestants on 'The Price is Right'?" Wouldn't it have been more accurate for him to say "first eight"?

I take it back. They weren't within DSW range, as their overbid was by $3,600. What I meant to say is that they were in the price range that I expected.

1. The price was $22,900. That's not a 3 Strikes price, even with the rule change.

Then stick some options on it.  Even on a restored car, there's got to be a way to vary the price a little bit.

2. Even with a price attached to the car, that's not an MSRP. I don't think the producers would want to put contestants in a position where they have to guess a price other than a MSRP, because it's more more subjective and variable.

They do it in grocery item games and small prize games all the time.

I have a feeling the choice of game for the car was thoroughly discussed; Let 'em Roll seems to me like the most exciting car game where the price is given.

I have a feeling very little at the show is "thoroughly discussed" these days.

What if they developed a 2-player game to be played only on shows like these (assuming there are more in the future, likely for V-Day)? It could be on the excitement level of Golden Road and Triple Play, but made specifically to put some focus on how the show changes when two contestants are on stage together.

Oh, for the love of God, NO.  The last thing we want to do is give them even more of a reason to screw with things.

When I told my grandmother about this show, She said, "This is going to be a mess". Let's see for ourselves:

Roll: WOW!!! JUST WOW!!! :-o :-o :-o :-o :-o  A '75 Corvette offered!!! I probably would've seen this one offered in One Away (or even better....3 STRIKES!!!) if it only was uber-expensive. After unsuccessfully missing the Ester-C, It was gonna take a lucky roll for Ian and Nancy to pull this one. It came on the first roll and i didn't blame them to go on and pull off that victorious moment on their second (and last) roll. A Marvelous start!!!!  :-)

Freeze: Mindblowingly hard. This one so wasn't meant to be won.

Swap: YAYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!  :-D :D :-) After all these damn months of not a single MP in the mix, Adam and the crew finally woke up and smelled the coffee and brought us one to watch and enjoy. We Want More!!!!!!! Thank You. Thank You. Those Handbags and that Crib couldn't been priced the same as a camera. Excellent.  :-)

SCSD #1: Ian and Nancy just can't seem to let the good luck backfire on them!!! $10K and a '75 'Vette....What more could you ask more?  :D

Lucky 7: Gary and Cynthia thought of too many high numbers on this one. If only i knew what the last digit was. I would've had at least 3 dollars left at the last number.

Punch: Even bloody couples just can't see that money is money even if it's $1K they're turning down.  :headbang:

Double: Eh.  :-(

Showcases: While the all-trips showcase was appropriate enough for this program, It would've been nice to cap it off with a car. The 2nd was one absolutely great with an Audi thrown in. I really hoped Ian and Nancy nailed it on their showcase. if only they bidded $50K.   :-(

Well, in the end while I still think this was mostly a waste of time by tinkering with a winning formula. It pretty much worked out okay. Will this be the only time we see something like this? To be continued.....

A 3.25-star show.

It looked as though that Stingray gained some value - it was $7698 in this episode on the nighttime version.

Opening:  I like this concept of having married/engaged/dating couples playing.  I'm surprised that the show hasn't done it sooner.

Roll:  Holy crap!  A 1975 Corvette Stingray!  Aside from the vintage Mustang offered during the TPIR portion of "Game Show Marathon", I can't recall a vintage car ever being offered before.

Freezy:  I know NWA is cheap, but the trip sure as hell wasn't going to be $2,318 cheap.

One-Bid #3:  Yay!  Just like the old days!  The announcer describing the TV... on the TV!

Swappy:  OMG!  SWAP MEET!  A MULTI-PRIZE GAME SHOWED UP! :P :P :P And congrats to Brandi on her upcoming baby babies! :-)

SCSD #1:  The Big Wheel has been hot this week.  That's the third $11,000 winner this week.  And congrats to Ian and Nancy on now officially becoming an engaged couple.

One-Bid #4:  It's a digital piano! :P

L7:  Come on, Adam, enough of the lineups with car games in slots 1 and 4.  (But hey, if you're gonna slot a car game in the 4-hole, Lucky $even is the one to slot.)  And enough of the impossible L7 setups, too.

Punchy:  Yay!  Punchy in the 5th slot! :P

One-Bid #6:  Yay!  Half-Off cue! :P

SC #1:  Wow, what a friggin' random assortment of trips.  But some really nice trips nonetheless.

SC #2:  "Star Trek" was a romantic movie?  ???  Yay!  The Audi TT returns! :P

My showcase bids:
FRATS--$18,007
Room/car--$53,007

I'd say this was definitely one of the best shows--if not the best--of this season.

You know, this couples thing actually didn't turn out so bad. Unlike what Drew wants, though, I don't think it's something that should happen frequently. If they want to make it a Valentine's Day tradition, okay... but nothing more than that.

BEST COUPLE OF THE DAY: Hien and Linda

Well, it wasn't the trainwreck that some imagined might be coming.  If this is what it takes to get Drew to host better, we might need to have more.

I agree that it would have been better to play games that required interaction between the couples.  Pathfinder would have been fun to see, the two of them squeezed onto one square.  Cooperation in Race Game as they argue which prices to put where.  Two people on the Bonkers board.  And they should have taken turns at the wheel.

Rich also messed up a couple of time with the numbers, saying "you are the first 4 contestants" instead of "8 contestants", and "you're the next contestant" instead of "contestants".  He did correct himself and say "contestants" a couple of times.

Are those $5500 watches the most expensive IUFB in daytime?

In case nobody heard, Rich has a goatee.

I'm glad that they didn't put that Stingray in a game that required the price.  That would have been a bit unfair, and I would have overpriced it completely.

That being said, I think Master Key would have worked better than Roll, though.  Can't rely on a game almost purely on chance to get the show off to a good start, especially when you make the 3rd GP tougher than normal.

I've never been happier in my life to see Swap Meet.  Perhaps the multiprizers have snuck back into the lineup again, and we still don't have a definitive answer where they went, anyway.

Congrats to Brandi!  Hope that her and Dean have a great time with their twins.

Nancy proposed.....to Ian?  That's unconventional.  We know who wears the pants in that relationship.

I would have stopped with that $1000 in Punchy.  The board is very unforgiving in getting numbers higher than that.  The SP's were fairly hard here, too.  I would have gone higher with the foot spa.

Hien and Linda seemed like LFAT's to me, anyway.  They missed the gym package by $82, and knew exactly what price to pick for the waverunner.

Good combination in the showcases, trying to introduce couple prizes.  But the reveal of every single trip at the back of the audience was boring.  Especially since there is no big door opening, and Brandi is just standing there waving her arm every time the screen refreshes.

"Cupid fired 3 Strikes".  Interesting, but I wish Cupid had fired somebody else and kept 3 Strikes.

Wasn't the outcome ruined for the people in the audience and on stage by them bringing out the other two plasmas?  Obviously the trip showcase was won.  And the pathetic winners parade is the exact reason that you don't get rid of the skins.  They were just standing there, partying in front of the screens with a couple of fake tickets saying "Hamptons" and "New Orleans".

Oh, and Rich has a goatee.  Don't know if Drew mentioned that or not.

One-Bid #3:  Yay!  Just like the old days!  The announcer describing the TV... on the TV!

Forgot about that.  I liked it alot too, but it would have been great if Lanisha grabbed the remote.

Unlike what Drew wants, though, I don't think it's something that should happen frequently.

Sorry heels.  Get ready for the baby shower (http://www.golden-road.net/index.php/topic,10330.0.html)!

This show stank to high heaven (and it had nothing to do with Drew whatsoever).

This whole couples thing just sucked. No ifs ands or buts about. I hate it, let's never see that again.

The best part about this show was that we actually saw Swap Meet. SWAP MEET, an actual 4 prize game other than Race Game. It isn't often I go YAY Swap Meet.  :-P

Double Prices last again for the 2nd time this week. Whoopee, shout with glee--been there done that too often.

Though I will admit at least seeing Punchy 5th was a nice treat.

Awesome cars in the show, if only I saw it...

That would be awesome if a Corvette ZR1 somehow made it on the show for a MDS appearance.

...wow. Next thing you know, we'll have a themed show in primetime every Friday night or something. 8-O

Wait... I forgot that we're being watched. Forget I said that.

The more I think about Let 'Em Roll for the Stingray, the more I like the choice of game. They really couldn't use a car game that requires them to know the price of the car. Why? Because it would be totally unfair and a totally random guess of the price. You can't price that in real life. The only fair way to give anyone a shot at winning the Stingray was to use a game like Let 'Em Roll or Hole in One or Five Pricetags, where the price of the car is irrelevant.

And I would totally love to own that.

In 5 Price Tags, the price of the car is not irrelevant.

And if anything, 5 price tags would be one of the easiest games to force a loss on with a restored Corvette.  Throw in some 40k prices, some 30K prices and the real one (which was lower than I think almost anyone thought it would be) and it would have been very easy to get an average contestant to lose it.

I guess I'll probably be one of the few to say it, but I'm not a fan of the 1975 Corvette showing up.  It's valued at about half of a new Corvette, and regardless of how "cool" it might be, it's still a 34 year old car.

What do we have for them Rich?   "It's a Used Car!"

How would one price a house in the Hamptons?  Is it a big house, small house?

You do have a point.  I mean, for $22,900, they could have put a new Mini Cooper or used a few thousand more to put a Pontiac Solstice instead.

I'm on the fence on this one. While, yes it was a used car, a Stingray is a classic car that many people would love to have. I'm not saying I would want this to become a standard practice on the show, (perhaps once a season, if even that) but it was a pretty cool prize and I went "wow!" when they revealed it.
However, that being said; if they are going to do this sort of thing, it should be a more "impressive" car, in terms of dollar value. If you ever watch those Barrett Jackson auctions on the Speed channel, a really good vintage 'Vette is worth as much or more than a new one sometimes. Hearing a prize of $22,900 made me realize they found the cheapest one they could find. For uniqueness, I'd give it a thumbs up, but a thumbs down on the value.

You make this prize sound absolutely awful. The fact is - there's a difference between a "used car", and a classic, restored car.

I drove a used car in college - a 98 Nissan Altima. I drove a classic car in high school - a 56 Chevy Belair. As much as I liked that Altima, nobody wanted it, or even really liked it. Everybody liked and wanted the Chevy, and it wasn't even restored or completely original.

Despite the fact that a restored, classic car is "used", it is a lot more desirable than a normal, run of the mill used car, or even some new cars any day.

How would one price a house in the Hamptons?  Is it a big house, small house?

Eh, it's no more arbitrary than a lot of other prizes the show gives away, pre and post Bob. It's a lot like the Dells the show gives away - most of the time, you don't know what model it is, how much memory it has, graphics card, etc. You just know that it's "A new computer!". It could be loaded up ($3000+) for all the contestant knows, or it could be a cheapie ($799).

I'm torn on this one. On one hand, it is a cool car. On the other, like John said, it's a 34-year-old car no matter how cool it is. I dunno, maybe if I were a bit older, or more into cars (as a hobby, not just driving them) I'd appreciate it more somehow. All things considered, I'd rather play for a brand new car.

It's a used car.  Period.

I don't deny that it is cool, it's neat, and would be a nice thing to keep in your garage.  But classic cars are restored and aren't generally used for everyday transportation.  People park them, take them to car shows, or drive them around on a nice summer day.  It's not as if the value of the car had gone up over time; in fact, using your inflation calculator, it decreased.  Why?  Because it's still a 34 year old car.

IF something like this was going to be offered on the show, naturally it would fit in a Showcase where "his and her Corvettes" were offered -- one from 1975 and one from 2009.  Just like they used to do in the old days of Price, simply add a disclaimer that you don't need to price the one from 1975, since it's nearly impossible.

The 2009 Corvette is brand new, with a factory warranty, and worth roughly double what the 34 year old car is.

I'm so very curious to see why it's still for sale by the dealer after being won on this show over a month ago.

Regarding the Hamptons, you can't compare that to a computer.  Do a google search for Hamptons rentals.  Some places go for tens of thousands of dollars per week, others $500.

I'm not saying it's not a novelty. But, the fact is, Price has offered novelty prizes pre/post-Bob and (gasp) pre/post-Roger. How is a novelty car any different than a gum ball machine or a banjo? A novelty car is actually somewhat useful, and something a sizable amount of Americans would actually want.

But, again, it's about the experience, right? It's always so convenient to bring that up.

Hmm... double the cost, double the taxes, not to mention higher registration costs and state taxes associated with registration. In most states, taxes would be determined for the 76 Corvette by its blue book value. I don't even think blue book gives a value for anything over 20 years old!

On top of that, from what I understand, the newer cars, Corvette included, don't hold their value too well. Especially with the 'vette since they went from fiberglass to plastic.

Maybe, just maybe, the contestant didn't want, like the countless other vehicles, pianos, and bedroom sets that contestants don't want all of the time. Wouldn't that be a shocker?!  8-O

Hell, I wouldn't accept a lot of prizes simply because my financial situation won't allow it.

Yeah, you really can. There are computers that the show has given away that have been worth <$800, and some that have been worth >$3000. Generally, if it's a Dell, you have no way of telling because they all look the same - grey box with the "Dell" logo. The prize copy is generic, and does not tell the contestant anything but "A New Computer!" and maybe, if the contestant is lucky "This computer has 2GBs of memory!". It's just as arbitrary as folks renting their houses in the Hamptons out - there will be some cheapies, and some wicked expensive rentals. A generic prize description, as the one given in this showcase, doesn't give us a clue - just like a lot of the prize copy in the rest of the show.

It's a valid point.

I'm not going to debate this with you.  I know where you stand in regards to the current production of the show, and frankly I very rarely comment either way so there's no need to launch an attack on me.

I didn't like a used car being offered.  If I'm worried about overbidding on a computer that could be worth a couple hundred/thousand more than I'm sure of (computers still get a much better description than "A week in the Hamptons") I'll low ball it a bit.  But, as I said, $70,000 a week in the Hamptons or $580 a week in the Hamptons.  You tell me?

FYI:   Very few prizes are refused on the show.  Very few.

This is only slightly related, but could a contestant make a handshake deal with the car lot providing the car, and trade that 34 year old 'Vette in for something else, or use it as a down payment for a new car?  I mean, it's still a $22,000 car, and $22,000 would make a very nice down payment on something new, with a warranty, etc.

By no means am I trying to attack you. I'm providing a point - isn't that what we're supposed to do around here? Debate and disucss? Try to change another's viewpoint?

No offense, but I'm rapidly becoming disenchanted with this site that I love for a variety of reasons.

Slightly away from the issue being discussed, but is that true? I thought I read once, that most Canadians who win cars on the show; end up refusing them, because of the high taxes they would end up paying on them.

Is this because people actually want the lovely Broyhill sofa they've won, or because they aren't aware that six months down the road, they become tax liabilities?

While seeing this one rerun today was interesting, I really wish CBS would steer clear of rerunning holiday themed episodes like this one during the summer.
