Bing out the sirens & Bells for this season's first perfect show (excluding the showcases)!!!!!! (Sirens, bells, alarms sound & confetti falls from the celing) YAY

Not much to say about this episode, except great contestants, And just think, exactly 1 year ago today was Drew's first episode of TPiR and it was a perfect show as well! Great job everyone!

CBS lined last year up so the 1st & 3rd shows would be perfect, so I am very happy to have a natural one occur today!!! The second half could have been 0/3 easy - crapshoot Squeezy, a long workaround for Grocery and finally That's Too HARD...conquered by the Peanut Gallery!!!

Happy Annivesary, Drew.

Drew was in a real good mood today---but, of course, he always is when they win.  Now if he could only stay in a good mood when they lose...

It's sad to see three strikes being played  the way it is.  It used to be so exciting trying to see them to place the  five numbers for a really expensive car---the drama could not be beat!

The first showcase was typical Drew humor...if you like Drew, you liked it...if you don't like Drew, it was really really stupid.

As the season progresses, I am seeing the main problem with Price which I sadly feel will , among other things, might be its eventual downfall.  The show has always been about the contestant.  We learned a lot about the contestant with the host bringing it all out.  Then we saw this contestant, who we knew about, play the game.  We were drawn into the drama more than if we didn't know about this person.  Of course, Bob was the best, but Doug Davidson, Tom Kennedy, and Dennis James to lesser degrees, were also able to do this.

Now it is NOT about the contestant...it's about Drew.  All through today's show, Drew was unable to bring out anything about the contestant other than where they live and who they want to say hello to.  In the last half of the show, Arthur and Donna seemed like they would be really great contestants with perhaps a story.  All Drew could do with Arthur was to make jokes about wearing that shirt and USC.  With Donna, all he could muster up was a joke and some jumping around with her.

For those who think I am too critical...I have been a fan of this show for over two decades and I have a right to be critical..it's my show as much as anyone else who watches it.  I guess I still cling to the hope that Drew will get better and the hope that he will get tired of writing the showcases.

Mainly, I hope that the producers wrestle control away from Drew and have the guts to tell him what's needed to make this show better.

Excellent gameplaying today all around if I do say so myself. Even better lineup if I do say so myself.

3 Strikes today was just wonderful to watch--despite (or in spite of) all the tinkering they've done to the game. Even sadder since this is probably the last time we'll get to see it.  :-(

Hey, the "Yodeley guy" game returns.  8-)

Anyone catch what Drew said to Arthur prior to playing Grocery Game? I thought I heard "hate" and "piano" in the same sentence.

Anyone here besides myself believe we was gonna see Balance Game last for a car today? Great playing of TTM. Donna showed the patience necessary to win in this game.

I do believe that is the first appearance of the Ford Flex on the show. Those things look weird.

If anything today's show upped the overall winning percentage for the year.

When was the last time we had a completely "traditional" lineup?  Regular car game in each half, regular GP in one half, regular SP in the other half, and a fourth game quickie?  That was really cool to see.

For the second day in a row, the first showcase would have worked a lot better as the second showcase, due to the contestant interaction-ish nature of it.  They really need to do better planning these sorts of things.

I noticed this too, today.  Summer, Arthur, and Donna all seemed to have a lot of untapped potential.  That none of them really stood out all that much is a shame:  one of them, at least, really should have.

My only complaint about Drew today was when he was reading some of the IUFBs' prices with great suspense when it's known who wins based on the first number out of his mouth.  Example: Number 5: Bids are 600, 325, 300, and 1; actual retail price: Seven.... forty-seven!  If he uses that when all suspense isn't killed with the first number, it'd be better.

Today was the first time I've ever had a chance to see the show in HD.

I've really got to break down and buy myself an HD TV set. That was, in a word, awesome.

?Switch?:  Easy.

Steroids-Free 3X:  Wha?!  Only one strike in the bag again?!  When you do that on top of giving the first number for free... well, that just makes the game easier than it had been for the last 11 years.  Quicker... but easier.

Hans Game:  Yay!  Cliffy! :P

One-Bid #5:  What a bunch of rotten bids from David and the ladies.

That's Too Hard!:  Ford Mustang + TTM! = auto-loss--WHAT?!  She won?!  We have a perfect show?!  It's a Festivus miracle!  (And a trip to the Sin Bin® for me.)

Showcases:  I believe this is the first Rob Mackey Stag Showcase of the season.

SC #1:  A Ford Flex?!  Great... another car price I'll have to memorize now.  But even I know that Flexes aren't that expensive.  Stage :wotc:

My showcase bids:
Spa/car--$31,007
Room/trip--$14,907

Did anyone else notice the 94-95 Dawson Feud music playing for the Flex as well?

Drew's been good to stop with the "Ezekiel Barker" junk in Barker's Bargain Bar.  Now, if only he could be so nice to stop "the most dangerous part about being a model on The Price Is Right" collision bit with Switch?.

3 Strikes is not exciting as a regular car game, but I really hope we get to see it again.

Why do all the prize reaction shots include Drew?  Should not the focus be solely upon the contestant and not the host when you want a reaction to a prize?

Drew's joke with the trip in Squeeze Play was, I felt, out of place.

I cannot believe Arthur said, "I hate USC," and they left it in.  I don't care if it was a joke.  It was a very tasteless joke and certainly not funny to anyone from USC.

Donna may not have been forced by the host to be so enthusiastic, but her shout of, "that's too much" made it seem like Bob was right there at that moment.

So, what is the deal with this home viewer contest?  Are they that desperate for ratings now?  So desperate that they have to plug the contest during the second Showcase Showdown?  If they want to try a contest, why not have viewers mail in postcards or something, then draw one alongside a pricing game for a chance for the home player to win the same prizes as an on stage contestant.  Didn't the show used to do something like that?

I want to see a Showcase with no theme that has a standard introduction and ends with, "this Showcase can be yours if the price is right."  I'm really missing them.

Let's assume that 3 Strikes is getting retired this season (and I'm not saying it is or that I have insider information).  What made you think this was the last time it was played?  Isn't it possible that it was played once more or twice more, etc?

Switch:  This was a pretty easy setup, and it made for a good start to the show.  But why were the prizes so cheap?  Larry won almost as much in is One-Bid as he did in this game.

3 Strikes:  I hope the rumors of this being retired soon prove to be untrue.  This playing was quite enjoyable in my opinion.  It didn't take too long, either (although I will admit that Rosario's perfect playing is responsible for some of that).  Still, I find this format to be quite enjoyable for regular play.

Cliff Hangers:  It's about time we see this one pop up!  This long-time favorite was long overdue.

Squeeze Play:  We have our first legitimately tough setup of the day -- this one was essentially a 33% chance.  Big congratulations go out to Jessica for nailing it!

Grocery Game:  This one also could have gone either way, but the end result was another nice win!  I had this nailed easily from the get-go:  2 x Gold Bond ($9.12) + 1 x Halls ($2.15) = $20.39.  Arthur was pretty rough on USC, though.  I think all of the USC fans watching the show probably changed the channel at the same time.

That's Too Much:  We've got a perfect show riding in the balance, making this the last game I'd want to see under the circumstances.  Just when I thought there was no chance, Donna nails a magnificent win and seals in the perfect show!  Incidentally, I would have lost this, stopping one too soon.

Showcases:  Arthur used good strategy with his $1 bid.  I would have been tempted to do the same since it didn't count for CSS, but I ultimately decided to take a chance on the trip to China.  I've got mixed emotions on the results...

My Showcase Bids:
Car:  $25,000 (Diff. $11,937) -- :gotc:
Room/Trip:  $17,144 (Diff. $192) --  :dsw:

I made a good move by taking the gamble, netting a DSW, but it I missed out on a huge scoring opportunity in CSS. :-(  Oh well.

Still, despite my CSS woes, this has to be hands-down the best show so far this season!  We were 6-for-6, including some exciting and amazing wins!  We also had a solid pricing game lineup, good contestants, and an upbeat Drew.

Well, folks, I hope you all enjoyed 3 Strikes for the last 32 and a half years, 'cause we might never see it again.

And really, this playing showed why giving the first digit free is a bad idea, and I'd like to think it's probably why Frank Wayne and Roger never did it -- the game was too short!  Even thought it was won, it felt like it ended as soon as it began.  Somehow, that extra number adds a whole 'nother level of excitement to the game that just wasn't there today.  If 3 Strikes does ever get played again, I hope to God they bring back the normal rules.

That said, though...A PERFECT SHOW!!!  Not only that, a perfect show clinched by, of all things, That's Too Much!!  That was freakin' awesome.

Incidentally, this is the second year in a row that a perfect show was aired on October 15.  Funnily enough, it's also the second year in a row that it wasn't the October 15 episode.

Drew called the car in 3 Strikes "a Dodge Challenger."  I wonder if that's anything like a Chevy Cracker. :)

Is this REALLY the last time 3 Strikes will be played?

I sure hope not, but it seems to be in the cards right now.

It has not been scheduled for any episodes since this one.

I'm not sure we actually know that right now -- but John has certainly implied that its future isn't bright.

At least Dodge makes a Challenger :)  (which would be an excellent 3 Strikes-worthy car if it was loaded up, back under its old rules)

To think that one year ago, Drew first walked through those doors is just profound.  Just like I said on the last show of Season 36, he has made so much progress in a short amount of time.  He got acquainted with the show, and learned all of the games in the rotation, when Bob took years to do that (even though not all of them were introduced at the same time).

Well, 3 Strikes changed its rules yet again.  With only one strike and four numbers in the bag, the game is so much easier, and it's justified that it was played for a normal car today.  But, the game was so dang short compared to playings under the 3 Strikes + or the 1998-2008 rules.  I have to agree with Steve that when the producers were developing the 5-digit 3 Strikes 25 years ago, they realized how exciting it would be to have all the numbers in the bag to prolong the playing and making an exciting win or heartbreaking loss on that last draw.

I loved it when Cliff Hangers showed up, and it was great to see Drew dance with Summer as the Yodely Guy made his way up the mountain.

Arthur may have not had a clue as to what he was doing in Grocery Game, but it was sure exciting to see it won after using 4 products.

When the people in chat saw That's Too Much show up, we thought the perfect show would be ruined.  But amazingly, Beverly won and Drew and her celebrated over the perfect show when going to commercial.

Just like last year's October 15th show, we had a perfect one for this year's!  It's great to have a perfect show, but it is even better to have a perfect show with a cool lineup, and sealing it with one of the most difficult games being won.

The Ford Flex made its debut in the show today, a very interesting-looking vehicle, IMO, and I don't blame Larry for overbidding.  I'm not sure if a majority of the public knows about the car, and it looked expensive.  I know the price of it and I was kind of surprised at how much the base model costs, just a hair over $28,000!

Drew called the car in 3 Strikes "a Dodge Challenger."  I wonder if that's anything like a Chevy Cracker. :)

Or, better yet, a Plymouth Peena :).

I think Armadillo put it best when he said something along these lines:

After the first playing this season:

"This game is too long, let's give the first number free to make it quicker.  Also, to relatively keep the same difficulty level, put 3 strike chips in the bag."

After the first playing under the new rules:

"We made it too difficult with 3 strike chips, let's just leave one in there."

After today's playing, which was very short compared to previous ones, they probably said:

"This is too easy" and/or, "It doesn't take enough time, let's just axe this thing, it's damaged beyond repair."

There's a huge difference doing that when tape isn't rolling and on air. Bob did take the time quite a bit (and when there was time!) to chat up the contestants. Bob could always find nuggets to work with, that should be Drew's goal as well. Again, he doesn't have to be like or do it Bob's way-he can find his own and do it, but he really needs to try to do this on air when he gets the opportunity.

Actually from what I understand, Drew talks to the people during the breaks about them.
In that case, then there's no reason for Drew not to find out interesting things that he can tell the viewers once the break is over.

And did Bob always find out (or almost always) what the person does? Drew generally does
There's more to a person besides where they live and what they do. That's a good starting point, but the question is, why is that interesting to the viewer? What about the contestant is going to make the viewer want to root for him or her? For example, if a contestant is jumping up and down and is really excited, ask why they're so excited. They'll probably either say it's because they love the show or they've always wanted to meet Drew. If it's because they want to meet Drew, they'll probably compliment him, which is a great segue for him to thank them and show them the prize as an expression of his gratitude. If it's because they love the show, then the viewers have an interest right there, as the viewers love the show too. It's a hard skill to hone. I know Bob has said that the reason he became so good at it was from his years and years of radio shows before he even broke into television. So Drew's not going to be an expert on that yet, but talking to the contestants during the break is a good way to start, as it should help him find that one thing that makes the person so interesting to watch. Then he has to recreate that spontaneity on the air so we can find out at home.

I must say that it was pretty inappropriate to make the first showcase all about the top winner of the day. It would have really been something if it was passed, too, since the showcase didn't even talk about the runner up or show them during the description of the first showcase.

I do like the new way they are playing 3 Strikes, but I still don't see why it can't be played for more expensive than usual cars. BTW Rosario did a great job today and nearly had it perfecto. Also, if they're gonna retire 3 Strikes because it takes too long, then they need to look into retiring Hole in One. I have nothing against either game I might add.

The video for the China trip to Shanghai showed 3 scenes, 2 of which are in Beijing, not Shanghai.

Absolutely great show.

WHY WOULD THEY CHANGE 3 STRIKES IN THE FIRST PLACE! I FEEL THAT THE FANS AND VIEWERS GOT SCREWED OVER BIG TIME! I'M BOYCOTTING TPIR TILL THINGS GO BACK TO THE WAY IT WAS!

No.  They don't.  They really, really don't.
I think catdogwheel meant something like "3 Strikes and Hole in One takes about the same time to play.  If they're going to retire 3 Strikes simply because it is long, then isn't it logical to conclude that Hole in One, which takes about the same time to play, should also be retired?"  It's in the Bag (or as Drew believes, In the Bag) also takes about as long as those two games.  catdogwheel isn't saying he wants any of those games to be retired, but if one game is retired simply because of its length then shouldn't other games of equal or greater length make sense to be retired, in the minds of the staff?

Of course, I don't want to see any retired.

I can't believe that no one at Price realizes that Three Strikes has always been an exciting game in the form it has been played for past many years.  They should leave it alone instead of trying to "fix" it.  :-x

It seems the game sometimes takes as long as some others (hole in one, Golden Road) but they still play them.  It would probably help the legnth of the game a little if Drew would hurry them along a little.

If they drop Three Strikes (or even continue to play it under the brand new 'improved' rules...ugh!) mark it down as a big loss to Price Is Right.

Switch?: Good move and Good win.

3 Strikes: We're back to one strike in the bag....Nice. 1st number still given for free....Whatever. I applaud Rosario for such great playing and another great win. If they even think about retiring this game (Please Don't!!!!), It will be just sad.

Cliff: Great too see this one back, too. The setup was just too obvious. Another great win.

Squeeze: Maybe I would've took out the 7, too. Four-in-a row!!! :-D

Grocery: I probably not took a chance on the Gold Bond lotion, but at least Arthur dodged the obviously-overpriced Ester-C and now we have 5 wins.  :-D

TTM: Uh-Oh  :-o :-o :-o Anybody feel are chances at a "Perfecto" has just been dashed? Beverly took a chance (and so did I) on number 7.....AND IT WORKED!!!!!! WE HAVE A PERFECTO!!!!!! :-D :oldlol: ;) :-) PERFECT SHOW!!!!!!!!!!!

Showcases: That Ford Flex looked almost like a Honda SUV. I figured it would be at least $35K (the car alone). Time to study another price.

Who knew one year after Drew first aired show that the same result would be repeated in a more natural way.

Another wonderful show this week. WIll we see two more?

A 5-STAR SHOW!!!!!! (YIPPEEE!!!!!!!!) :hammer: :pint: :)

Switch:  Good job! :-)
3 Strikes:  What a great win! :-D  Would've been an even better win if Rosario wouldn't have gotten that strike.
Cliff Hangers:  Nice to see the yodelly guy return! :-)  Good win, too! :-)
Squeeze Play:  YES!!  THE CURSE IS BROKEN!! :-D
Grocery Game:  I wasn't sure the way he started, but Arthur pulled it off! :-)
That's Too Much:  Someone actually won this game! 8-O  Can you believe it?  I was having "the big one" over it!
Showcases:  I figured the Ford Flex would be expensive, but not as expensive as Larry thought it was!

Not only was the curse broken, but with a perfect show, it was broken BIG TIME! :-D  AWESOME!! :-D  :-D

Deja vu all over again! Way to celebrate a full year of Drew's Price with another perfect show! If there's another perfect show one year from now, that would really be something! Happy Anniversary, Drew!

Only if they don't completely rejigger the air schedule to accomplish it.

Switch?-Easy win to start out the day.

3 Strikes-That's right, it IS a great game, Drew.  And we got a winner at that!

Cliffhangers-Hurray, perfect 1st half!  That was easy.

Squeeze Play-YES!  We finally got a 4th winner!  The losing streak is broken!  That was pretty tough, too.

Grocery Game-At first, I was thinking that 2 cough drops wasn't going to be enough, but it was perfect!  Arthur played the game really well.

Can it be?  Can we go from constant 3 for 6 days to the unthinkable...?

That's Too Much-YES!  Perfect show!  I actually groaned when I saw this game.  A perfect show to be sealed with a That's Too Much win--plain awesome.  That was actually pretty easy, too.
