Title: FULL RECAP - TPiR 09/18/2006 (35th Season Opener)
Post by: Joe_Capitano on September 18, 2006, 01:26:49 PM

IMPORTANT! Starting with this show, please use the "Rate Thread" device to RATE THIS SHOW!
Be honest. Base your rating on gameplay, contestant selection, and overall entertainment value.
No hunches. Give it some thought. Let's see which shows really stand out from the crowd this season.
You'll find the device above the recap post. Now then...

For the last 80 days or so we have eagerly awaited this moment. And now, it's here.

For the several hundred in attendance, and the millions watching on TV (and,
hopefully one day on Innertube), ladies and gentlemen, boy and girls...

LLLLLLLLLLLET'S GET READY TO COME ON DOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWWWN!
It's the long anticipated start of

(Rah.)

...and not only is it the 35th year of Price as we know it, both Bob Barker and the show
are approaching major milestones - the 50th Anniversaries of Price's first episode
(just after Thanksgiving) and Barker's TV debut (New Year's Eve).

One year ago over $200,000 in loot went out the door on opening day, the largest
single-day haul ever. Can that total be surpassed, and will the season average get
back on the happy side of par after falling short the last two years?

Well, what is everyone waiting for? The house is crawling with reporters, models,
webmasters, and average citizens. It's so packed the fire marshal might close it
down any minute. So, let's get this party started before they do.

Darn it!!  I wish I didn't have to go to class...because I missed the DSW!

Anyways, I'm taking some time to make some final tweaks to my new "Price is Right Report Card"; it'll be at least a couple of weeks before the first "Report Card" is issued.

I'll explain my new grading system at another time.  Until then...take it easy!!

Holy Crud! Now I really Hate School for missing this! This has to be the best season premiere we've had in quite a while. In fact, if I didn't know better, I would have thought they secretly taped another MDS and showed it instead of a regular daytime show. This definitely got the season started with a bang.

Also, look at the number of oddities. Lucky $even being the first pricing game of the season? I was expecting one of the big 3. Tehn 3 strikes as the second game was also pretty odd. Finally, Most Expensive for 3 cars? On a daytime show? Wow. Enough said.

Best darn show ever. I knew I should have played sick.

What a fantastic way to start the Season!  Incredible lineup, incredible contestants, ususual events, and fantastic wins!

Super job, Dob.

P.S.  I gave out a Gold Star to one of our members today!  Congratulations!!!

Lucky Seven- Ouch. I had a feeling it'd be pretty tough once that Cadillac rolled out. Interesting that picking five for every number would've won it, though.

3 Strikes- Wow, what a finish! Worked it down to a full count, but still came through. Awesome.

Most Expensive- 6-car day?! It's the end of Price as we know it!!!

Showcase- I have no words. None. How do you explain that? Unreal.

BEST CONTESTANT OF THE DAY- Adam, even though he never got up on stage. I could tell he was a big fan of the show and had been waiting a long time to get on. It's a shame he was stuck in the Row.

SHOW SUMMARY AND GRADE- It was just a solid show, until that miracle in the Showcase. Wow... Grade: 4

Actually, if I was to grade this show now, using my old grading system, I would give this show an A+ that is worthy of landing on the Honor Roll.

I was absolutely SHOCKED about the DSW.  Just a few hundred more dollars in the other direction, and we would've had ourselves a tragic Double Overbid.

WOW!!! WHAT A SHOW! Most expensive FINALLY get played for 3 cars! I set my timer on my VCR becuase I'm in High School. WAY TO GO VICKIANN ON BREAKING THE RECORD! Sorry Amy.

Lucky $even: Forced loss. Even though all 5's would have won.

3 Strikes: A Corvette! Wow! I know that Corvettes are often played for on 3 Strikes, but it's so thrilling to se it won.

Plinko: Not surprised to see this in the recap.

Push Over: Easy.

Double Prices: See Pushover.

Most Expensive: When I saw that this was played for 3 cars, I almost fainted.

Showcases: Way to go Vickiann! She's broken Amy's record.

Score: 20 out of 10!

And I call this "The daytime MDS!"

I don't know what else I can say that hasn't already been said...  Awesome show from start to finish!

That finish in 3 Strikes was quite tense, even after Maria nailed her first 4 numbers in succession.  Man, was I glad to see that win!

Most Expensive for 3 cars.  That was simply amazing to see.

And the DSW at the end...  I was speechless.

Overall, an awesome start to the season!

Excellent beginning to the 35th season. The confetti from the audience brought out the celebration. Too bad for that Lucky $even loss, but the other five wins makes up for that.

Great suspensful win on 3 Strikes. Great wins on Push Over, Plinko!, Double Prices, Most Expensive.

A Double Showcase win was an even greater way to start this monumental occation, plus $147,517 total in cash and prizes to boot. Great show.

This was a truly unbelieveable show.  I wish Bob would have kept his mic during the credits while he was introducing (with a baloon) some of the staff.  This show was truly worth the wait.

Wow...I'm glad I was able to take today off of work to see this!  What an incredible way to start the season!!  Onto the games...

L7:  Ouch.  On the one hand, that was a tough price, but on the other, the all-5 strategy wins it in pretty dramatic fashion.  Maybe that's what The Dob hoped for.

3K:  At first, it looked like an exacta coming.  Then, a near heart attack.  Good thing she got all those numbers right quickly!

Plinko:  Of course we had to play this.  Usual stuff, glad to see $10000 won.

Pushover:  Easy.  That van didn't look like it was less than $20k.

DP:  Nice win!

ME for 3 cars!!!!!  And won!!!  Need I say more?  When was the last time that ME was the most expensive game on the show?

SCSD #2:  Nice to see an early $1000 winner.

Showcases:  My gosh.  When Maria went over, I thought for sure we'd have a double overbid to start the season.  Then Bob read "Eighty-nine thousand...", and the disbelief starts.  Is she over?  Does she win hers?  Both?  "...seven hundred..." well, we know she's won, but does she have both?  "...thirty-seven dollars!  You win both showcases!"  WHOOP WHOOP CLANG CLANG!!  Vickyann didn't just beat the daytime record, she absolutely shattered it!

Good thing, as MSTieScott pointed out during chat, that the first set of S35 episodes were taped before this one.  We won't see budget mode starting tomorrow.

8 cars offered, 7 of which were won.  $300k+.  DSW.  Wow.

Post by: Mallory16 on September 18, 2006, 02:05:10 PM
Wow... where to start?  Was this a season premiere or a Million Dollar Spectacular?  Seriously.

Well, there's the showcase.  And um... well, "wow."  It was impressive enough to see Vickyann not severly lowball on the Viper showcase.  Made for a great ending, though... I mean, let's set the stage here:  Maria had overbid.  So now we start worrying "oh no... could it possibly be a double overbid?"  I mean, dang that was TENSE!  I'll say it again:  TENSE!  And after the "89" came out of Bob's mouth... ooh, a 50/50 shot of the most painful double overbid in Price is Right history!  But as it turns out, no, it was the greatest showcase bid in Price is Right history!  It's difficult enough to get a double showcase win on a cheap showcase, but to get one on an $89,000 showcase?  Amazing!  I'll repeat that, AMAZING!

And Three Strikes... about as exciting as it can get!  Cutie Maria played perfectly, getting four numbers without missing a beat, then strike 1!  And strike 2--isn't this the first time since the rule change that a contestant who had 4 numbers and 0 strikes got the strike on the next two pulls?  Pretty sure it is, but ooh, what drama it builds!  Playing so perfectly, no strikes, and all coming down to the final draw.  What a way to win, what a way to WIN!  Now admit it guys:  it wouldn't have been as exciting if she won with zero strikes!  I thrive on the danger!

And where did Most Expensive come from?!  Three car Most Expensive:  wow!  I would've lost, actually, but three cars behind every door, with the Super Ball!! cue playing... more fun than Triple Play, and easier on the show's time constraints too (http://www.angelfire.com/la3/goldenroad15/misc/smile3.txt)!

I was surprised Lucky $even was lost so quickly.  The price was pretty tame, though Michael lost on only the third number.  Lucky $even feels like a pretty appropriate game to start a season, anyway, with a Cadillac being driven out onto the stage!  Better than Triple Play, certainly.

And there was the thing with the confetti, and Bob's talk about not knowing tbere'd be confetti.  I'd have figured it was planned.  Would have figured if Bob hadn't said anything about it.  It felt kinda' right, anyway.

And well, the lineup in general!  Two regular car games back to back to start the show, and none in the second half, but two non-car games for cars in the second half!  No way I could've seen Three Strikes coming after Lucky $even!  Or Most Expensive for three cars after it had already been a three car game day!  Has there ever been a 4 car game day on The Price is Right ever before?  And Double Prices fifth!  I wonder why Double Prices is fifth so rarely, anyway.  Certainly isn't shy about fourth and sixth.  All in all, one of the greatest pricing game lineups ever!  Heck, even if Most Expesive weren't for cars or even trips, it would've been.  Not that it hurt.

No particular contestant was notable, though most of them were pleasant and excited anyway.  And agreeing with heels, Adam could've been fun too.

I was surprised there was no grocery game today.  Not that I'm complaining here, but just surprised, since unlike the small prize games, Roger still likes to make sure a grocery game gets in every show.  I was certainly expecting Pick a Pair to show up sixth, anyway.

Anyone notice that the board game in the second showcase was Fortune Hunters (http://www.angelfire.com/la3/goldenroad15/misc/smile3.txt)?

Britey wrote:  When was the last time that ME was the most expensive game on the show?

Probably never, including today's show.  Three Strikes beat Most Expensive by around $2000 (http://www.angelfire.com/la3/goldenroad15/misc/smile2.txt)

Elissa's 2199 in the fourth one-bid was the first STUPID BID of the season (on the first show of the season at that). Other than that, a splendid show.

Woo-hoo! What an awesome way to kick off Season 35! What an unbelievable show!

PG#1 Lucky Seven—Oh, man. Don’t start the new season with that game! (I think this game is called Lucky 7 because only 7 lucky people will win it this year).

PG#2 Three Strikes for a Vette! Would have been a lot more suspenseful win if not spoiled on the Early Show last Thurs.

PG#3 Plinko! No surprise here, but at least the $10,000 slot was hit once.

IUFB #4 Four ladies in a hot tub! :-D

PG#4 Pushover for a five-digit prize! Woo-hoo!

PG#5 Double Prices—My least favorite game, but played for a boat and won, so woo-hoo!

PG#6 Most Expensive—for 3 cars!!! Woo-hoo! I was expecting 3 trips, but even better! And it was won: exciting because Triple Play wasn’t ever won last year.

SSD#2 $1,000 on the wheel! What a day!

Awesome showcases! Loved the last headline and the showcases featuring prizes from the first season. I was scared for a moment that it would be a DOB on the first show, but a DSW!!! And the biggest winner in daytime history! What a great day to play hooky from school to watch TPIR! 8-)

WHAT A SHOW!

I'll tell ya, that was as good as a primetime special! I've never seen a bigger edition of TPIR before!

And, while were talking about records, here's all the records set today by the DSW contestant, Vickyann.

1. New daytime TPIR record.

2. First *Daytime* TPIR contestant to win over $100,000 in a single show.

3. New overall daytime Game Show winnings record, previously held by Press Your Luck's Michael Larson.($110,237) It's hard to believe that PYL record stood for 22 1/2 years!

In any event, big congrats to everybody who won huge today! Best ever edition of TPIR, to me! :D

What can I say, it's the best season premiere in recent years.

I've always said that Most Expensive would make a great three car game.  I was surprised to hear Bob mention the pricing game that was going to be played before it was revealed.

Anyone notice that not one grocery item game was played, but the car giveaways made up for it. 4 out of 6 games played for a car, it's almost as many given away at the 5,000 show (where it was all 6 games played for a car).

Vickyann broke the daytime record.  To the GRNet members in the audience, what did the showcase podium display show for Vickyann's total winnings.  It obviously couldn't display 6 digits.

Today's show: SUPERFANTABULOUS!!!

Nobody would have predicted today's line-up! Especially Double Prices fifth!

When was the last time the price was revealed for Lucky $even after a loss, anyways?

If this episode doesn't win show of the year there is no best episode!

Not true.  The syndie version of Millionaire, which I believe is considered a daytime game show, has given away more, including $1M on a single show.  But it's still an impressive total.

Season Premieres always bring out the goods, and this was more of the rule than the exception.

Lucky 7: Ouch!  Should've gone with the all-5 trick.

3 Strikes: Dramatic!  First, she rattles off 4 straight correct picks, then she strikes twice.  With a full count, she slams one over the fence for the first win of the season!

Calldown #3: Try saying her name 5 times fast.

Plinko: A decent payout for its first playing.

Pushy: Easy.

DP: Ditto, and played for a nice non-car prize.

Most Expensive: As soon as Bob started in on his extended ME spiel, I knew this game was gonna get the One Wrong Price MDS treatment.

Showcases: Break out the clangs and whoops!  Vickyanne makes history with a phenominal bid.  Even without the DSW, the Viper would've been enough to do the trick.

Overall: Like the opener said, Price is indeed back and better than ever.  What a way to start #35!

Ok, so wow.

Now, my only complaint had nothing to do with the Goodson boys. Some genius at CH Hamilton decided that the appropriate thing to do was not have the fourth and fifth contestant call down, and almost blank out the fourth IUFB completely. If that wasn't bad enough, right after the DSW, they showed the amount she had won, and cut out completely. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!

Now that that's out of my system. I don't remember on which thread, but we were told there would be five things we would never probably see again. Here's my guess.

1.) Confetti, which I loved, by the way
2.) Lucky Seven and Three Strikes on the same show
3.) Three cars on Most Expensive, in which my jaw dropped, and now still hurts from. (I wish they would've done, "behind door #1" etc..., but oh well)
4.) A Viper in a Showcase.
5.) Six beauties in daytime.

I wish we would've been able to see Rich. (Folks who have a competent TV station probably did at the end)

But my word, if this is the season premiere, have mercy on us all when the anniversary primetime special hits. I'm certainly glad I missed work this morning for this. :)

Guys,

I just want to thank Marc, John and the wonderful staffers at Golden Road for working so hard on the site, having access to the greatest game show of all time, and being so helpful to us all.  35 years!!!!  WOW!!!!  Like Bob said, "It's you (i.e all of us) that help make this possible."

This episode was so good and so emtional that the DSW moved me to tears!  I don't ever recall that type of feeling from a game show before ever!  Have we EVER seen an episode of TPIR with such expensive prizes one after the other after the other like this?  This was even better than many prime time specials.  In fact fellas, I will say, that despite Lucky Seven being lost, this may have been the greatest episode and most emotional episode of TPIR that I have ever seen!  This was like a dream!

I wish that this whole episode could be preserved in the A/V room archives because there just aren't enough words to describe it!  SHATTERING and UNNFORGETABLE to describe what happened especially in that heart-stopping showcase win STILL doesn't do justice to how great this episode was!

This will be a part of the television archives forever!

Thanks again to John, Marc, and everyone at Golden Road.Net for being there for us!  Looking forward to your recaps!

Sincerely,

Joe

I saw the show and the newscast (CBS 2) after it had a brief interview with Bob about the longetivity of the show.

He mentioned that anytime the word "change" is mentioned, people moan.  But he mentioned the biggest change was the colour of his hair.

I noticed when they showed a wide shot of the stage, I noticed the studio cameras were HD cameras although the show isn't.

This was by far the best episode I have ever watched of price and I have been watch this show since I was a tyke.  Haveing a DSW and the record being shattered,, that is amazing. I know I was shaking and in tears when the DSW happened.  By the way mangionic, we did not see rich at the end, I saw the right side of him then the damn station cut off for the promotions.  Other than that, this is a show for the ages.

Wow! What a show!

As I mentioned before, my videotape had popped out before the Showcase, and that was too bad.  I'm very glad that someone is loading Vickyann's Double Showcase win onto Youtube.

Bob inadvertently said that the Price is Right had been on for 34 years just before the introduction of his game.  I know.  It's a mistake of human error.

Maria's Three Strikes win was very suspenseful.  She almost lost it, but she pulled the one out of the bag before she pulled out the third strike.

Most Expensive being played for three cars? I sure didn't expect that!

And of course, Vickyann's Double Showcase Win was a great way to start off the season, let alone to win both showcases on a relatively expensive showcase! Unbelievable!

What a show! The line up, suspense, a DSW, what else could you ask for? I'm glad I have it on tape for my kids to see someday (when I actually have some!)

Bob was really on his game today, he always is, but today was extra special.

This was certainly worth all the hype and the waiting, and not much is anymore! Thank you to the staff of The Price is Right for always making the show fresh and new and exciting, thanks to Marc and John for giving us this site and thanks to Joe for his wonderful recaps!

I'm looking forward to discussions and everything Price related for this momentous 35th season!

Also, for the IUFB's that were behind the big doors, did they use a different camera angle than last season? It looked a little different to me, sort of like it was filmed a little higher, with the camera pointed down at the item, maybe it's just the new doors though...

An excellent season opener today, which I saw everything from the second One-Bid on. The Three Strikes dramatic win was great, and the MDS-priced prizes (even on Double Prices) just kept adding to the excitement. Cars were being offered left and right... six of them! Most Expensive's 3-car offer was an excellent way to cap the pricing games.

Then $1,000 was won on the Big Wheel, making the show even better. I loved the playing of the TPIR theme during the first showcase, which got topped by a Viper in the second showcase! Unfortunately after seeing the first bidder's overbid being announced first, I knew it was a double overbid.

...but it wasn't! The double showcase win on an $89,500 bid seemed impossible to me, but it happened! I thought there was no way they'd offer a showcase that expensive on daytime, but they did. Simply amazing. What a way to cap the season opener.

Oh, and that Bob Barker guy? He's excellent. Still.

To describe this show as just awesome would be an understatement.  This would have to be one of the best TPIR shows I've seen in my life!  :-D

Lucky $even and 3 Strikes in the same show.........ME for 3 cars.....a DSW with a new TPIR daytime winnings record.......it certainly couldn't have been any better (well, ok, it could have had L7 not been blown on the 3rd number).

I would like to propose a toast to everyone on TPIR and Marc, John, Joe Capitano, the mods, and everyone else at Golden-Road.net for......everything!  Here's to an awesome Season 35!  [raises glass of Dr. Pepper in salute]

BTW, Marc and John, how much did you bribe Bart for that close up shot of the 2 of you in the opening?  :-D

Wow.  That was...um...wow.

That was one of the most awesome Price episodes I've ever seen.  The lineup was amazing...I really don't know what was more mind-blowing -- seeing 3 Strikes right after Lucky $even, or seeing Most Expensive for three cars.

The new Big Doors, at least in and of themselves, are neat.  I'm a little disappointed that you can't tell them apart anymore, but that's a minor quibble.  I'm more worried about how well they'll mesh with everything else, although I imagine I'll get used to them over the next few days.

I liked having six Beauties for this episode.  I felt bad for Lanisha, though -- she was the only regular who wasn't there.

Who were those two idiots sitting behind Contestants' Row?

I felt bad that Lucky $even was lost...I have a feeling Roger wanted it won, since picking all 5s would have brought a victory.

3 Strikes was amazing.  It would have been horrible if Maria had gotten those four numbers and then drawn all three strikes...but it didn't happen! (http://www.golden-road.net/grnoldx/modules/Forums/images/smiles/icon_lol.gif)

Okay...so Double Prices was the only game of the day not to offer a car or cash...and it gave away a nearly $19,000 boat. (http://www.golden-road.net/grnoldx/modules/Forums/images/smiles/icon_lol.gif)

The only thing more amazing about Most Expensive than what it was played for is the fact that it was actually won.  That was clearly set up to be lost.  As Willy said to me over AIM, Carolyn is the first Dob-stopper of the season!

I still cannot believe the way the Showcase ended.  That was truly one of the most incredible things I've ever seen in my life.

How many of you caught the reference to a retired pricing game in the second showcase? (http://www.golden-road.net/grnoldx/modules/Forums/images/smiles/icon_smile.gif)

And my God...they actually used the show's theme as a car cue!  I feel safe in guessing that that's a first.  Worked pretty well, too!

Remember last year on the 34th Season premiere there was a 91,000+ Showcase that included a Cadillac Convertible even thought it wasn't won but that was the most expensive showcase that was.  I would have thought that on the 35th Season premiere Bob would have had a $100,000 Showcase like he usually does on the MDS. But today to give away over $300,000 with the majority of 7 cars won that is phenomenal!!!

35th Year! 35th Year! 35th year! 35th year!

Absolutely AMAZING show! Great Contestants and a great selection of prizes!

Most Expensive for 3 cars was a shock. I had a feeling it would happen eventually, but I never thought on daytime.

3 Strikes was awesome, even though I knew the outcome already (I saw the CBS Morning Show last week), it was still exciting to see. Was it intentional not to play 3 Strikes first? My only theory was becasue Bob could not come through the newly repainted doors if it was played first.

Congratulations to VickyAnn for breaking the daytime show record! FANTASTIC bid!

The confetti in the opening was a cool thing, which I was just as surprised as all that Bob never knew. I thought it was all planned.

You know, with the exception of 3 Strikes, the 3 cars in Most Expensive, a Cadillac in Lucky 7, and the showcases, on any regular daytime show, this line up would have sucked!

Good Season 35 to all the members and guests of golden-road.net. I wait ever so patiently for a nice fresh episode of Price. Here are some of the things that happened during the Pricless Summer (related to Price of course): I upgraded to a DVR to now record Price and other shows on DVD; watched clips of Price on YouTube; purchased the TPiR DVD game (which I rate a B-) and other game shows; and the repeated watching of Joy's infamous Ten Chances playing. There was a little karma the day the supposed Feb 23 episode was supposed to reair. The good thing was I was away from the television and the cursed episode did not air (nice!).

Today, I watched more clips prior to the airing, becoming a walking ad on campus with my white Price hat and my "It's a New Car!" shirt. Anyways, I anticipated to watch and was a little afraid if some sort of error occured that resulted in me missing the season premiere... (GET ON WITH IT!)

One Bid 1: I always used to think there would be only three Beauties for each show. But then I would think of how Janice and Holly and Dian and Kathleen would all be on the same episode. Maybe it's how they've been doing it for a while that has got me thinking about it. Whatever.

Lucky Seven: We lost a Cadillac....

One Bid 2: For a moment there, I thought that product was an energy drink on the recumbent bike instead of Cresent rolls. Could that be a product that avid bikers want to avoid? Whatever again.

3 Strikes: If only the win was not spoiled for those that saw the Early Show segment (including me before I left for work), this would have been a very suspenseful play.

Plinko: The prizes were easy to obtain chips. Those colors of the "35 Years" signs gave me a mental war as to which has the most interesting array of colors: The "35 Years" color scheme, Plinko, or On the Spot? Winning $11600 is great enough to start the season.

Push Over: At first I was going for something that ends in 0, but this time, a Caravan like that made me want to start the price at 20, and it worked.

Double Prices: The way the camera was before the boat was shown made me think that Double Prices, no, Side by Side would be played here; but after seeing that boat another time, I was certain they were going to play Double Prices.

Most Expensive: Again with the camera, I had a feeling we're going to play Most Expensive for three trips. But once again, since this is the 35th Season Premiere, we might be playing for three automobiles and playing the MGHS Car Cue. We were. I would've lost on this one because my best guess would have been the PT Cruiser and not the Jeep Wrangler.

... and a shot of a perfect show thanks to that Unlucky 7!

Showcases: ... So what if we lost a Cadillac and a shot at a perfect show. For Maria's Showcase I also bidded 35 on it because I kinda had a thought a 35K Showcase would fit for a 35th Season Premiere. I went 70 for Vickyann's, in which I cannot beleive the main theme was used as a car cue. Very interesting indeed. Kinda makes me wonder if another game show used their (own) theme for a car cue. Bidding a double 35 didn't work for me, but a Dobule was paid to Vickyann in more ways than one. $147,517

Okay. I was (and still am) soaked in that record-breaking win and as I read the other posts, I forgot about Larsen's record (in network daytime). So far, I can recall three big inundating wins on Price: Amy's win a little while ago; that inundating and screaming win on 1/2 Off recently, and this win.

Words: best, price, ever, inundation, spay, neuter.

[Mod: Oops. It's that winning 10k I get from some that call that an unofficial win or something. Basically if 10k wasn't won on Plinko today, I wouldn't get huffy because of a 5/6 show. Sure we had one big loss... ]

In order to forestall any further comments like the one in the post above this one, please keep in mind that with Plinko in the lineup, no matter what happened in any of the other games, it was pretty much impossible to have a perfect show today.

One of the best TPIR episodes I have ever seen!

Lucky $even-I would have said a 1 or 2 for the second number.  A Cadillac CTS like that I knew would be in the upper-$30,000 to lower-$40,000 range.

3 Strikes-An exciting win of a new Corvette!  It got really suspenseful when it came down to the last draw with 2 strikes on the board.

PL!NKO-The SP portion was easy.  $11,600 is a good haul to start Season 35.

Push Over-I knew that van was at least $20,000 based on listening to the options.

Double Prices-It was easy.  Ski boats can be expensive, so I chose $18,994.

Most Expensive-I knew someday this would be played with three cars!  It was a very exciting win; I knew the Jeep was the most expensive because the other two cars barely had any options.

Showcases-Michael Larson, eat your heart out!  CBS Daytime has a new winnings record-holder and her name is Vickyann!  I can't believe she won that beautiful Viper as well as the other Showcase!

Overall, an awesome show and I hope there will be more exciting wins like this later this season!

If I could describe this episode in one word, it would be "Incredible". But yet, that word could be an understatement. In any case, Most Expensive for three cars (and I knew that the Jeep was going to be the most expensive, since last season Jeeps were hovering around $19-21k) was probably my favorite, aside from that amazing 3 Strikes win. Amazingly, the DSW was fitting for a show of that calibur. I would've been way off on those Showcase bids (35k for the first and 70k for the second). And everyone loves when the showcase podiums can't display the six digit total winnings. I rate this show a 13 out of 10, 2 extra points for the nice new 35 year logo.

TOO BAD! I missed the excitement today, but i glad that one of these days that Most Expensive is Played for  not 1, not 2 but for 3 CARS! I can tell there were major big wins in this season opener (ESPECIALLY A MONSTRIOUS DOUBLE SHOWCASE WIN!). But if only Michael would have chose a smaller 2nd number in the cadillac, it would have been a record breakin show!

Joe, you've got Lucky $even listed in place of 3 Strikes as the second pricing game.

Wow...it was like an MDS, only with a much better set, music, lighting, and pacing.  I loved it, and I can't say I've ever seen a Price Is Right episode that was anything close to this one.

What a good lineup, even with some season opener standards, but Double Prices fifth was a nice one.  The only thing I would have done is replaced Plinko with a different cash game.  Aside from that, the person who constructed this lineup deserves major compliments.

Thank you so much, Roger, for having the entire price of the car revealed at the end of Lucky $even.  Hopefully, this is a permanent change.

Maria's 3 Strikes playing was astounding.  I can't say you could have even planned a playing that exciting, and the fact that she drew two strikes before the last digit made the win just that much more astonishing.

If they were going to change the Plinko graphic ever so slightly, you think they could have come up with something better while they were at it. :-P

Wow...Most Expensive for three cars...I never thought I'd see the day, and what an impressive win it was.

Aside from the bonus spin, there was no tilting of the camera when the wheel came to a stop in the Showcase Showdown.  Thank you, Bart.

Indescribible...the show's theme as a car cue...so weird, yet so appropriate.

The second Showcase theme was very neat.  My suggestion, if they should ever do it again, is have some stills from episodes, actually showing prizes no longer offered being offered on the show.  I think that would look very neat.

And what a finish, the double Showcase win was so surprising and so unexpected; and a six-digit figure win in daytime.  Just unbelieveable.

Fantastic start to the season, hope there's a lot more surprises in store for the rest of the season.

Completely disagree.  You'd still have Double Prices fifth, no regular car game in the second half, and possibly two regular car games in the first half, depending on what game replaced Three Strikes.  Don't see how that would have sucked on an otherwise regular episode.

Opening: Well, we've got new doors, and a person who dares to throw confetti on the set! Yippee!

Lucky Seven: The producers were hoping for someone to go 5's all the way. Sadly, Michael couldn't take advantage of it. I can't believe they actually revealed the entire price, even though he didn't make to the end. Too bad.

3 Strikes: This should've switched places with Lucky Seven as the first game. Maria won a Corvette by playing this so well!!! It was obvious what the first and last numbers were, but the middle ones were up to you. We almost had a tragic loss here.

Plinko: The first appearance of Season 35!

SSD1: Maria gets a shot at the record!

Super Pushover: Very easy.

Double Prices: Easy, as well.

Most Expensive: Triple Play, but only having to make one choice to win all three! Easy, and fantastic win!!!

Showcases: I knew Maria had overbid on the first Showcase, because the Saturn Sky isn't that expensive. I was surprised the other wasn't $90,000 at least. But I was even more shocked when Vickyann DSWed on it, setting several records on the show, including the obvious one!
Congratulations!!!!

Overall: I'm not surprised this season's season premiere was even better than last year's- anniversary seasons seem just to bring more magic for us! I'm not sure if we need to watch Tuesday's show.

Very nice show!  It's always hard to tell on TV, but the roar from the crowd after the last number was pulled out in Three Strikes was the loudest audience reaction I can ever remember hearing.  It sounded like the Final Four in there.

You can't beat a massive Double Showcase Win, although my enthusiasm for the winner was tempered somewhat by her super-annoying shoutout just before the break.

I had been wondering whether the confetti for part of the show or not... I know we groan at Bart a lot, but I found it difficult to believe that he would blow a shot of the confetti had it been planned.  (He did manage to get a sliver of Rich "bowing down" to Bob.)

So I'm curious... what was the reaction of the pages when that guy ran down to throw the confetti?  That would make me awfully nervous if I were in their position... at least for a second or two.

I think the only problem with rating the show is that this may well have been not only the greatest show in the history of the series, but in the history of daytime game shows.

I'll have a number of comments to add, as I was fortunate enough to be there and share it with board member Madonna -- the BOB chant was probably inspired by the two of us torturing poor Chuck all day.  That probably led to the curve-ball Stan threw me at the interview phase, which I didn't expect...

Anyhoo, to the show and those who WERE picked:

That confetti you probably saw was a guy in the audience, much to the chagrin of a couple pages.  By the end of the day, Maddy had convinced me to "grab a handful of television history" -- heheheheheheh...

Anyhow:

Lucky Seven:  I almost caught an elbow from Maddy when I yelled out "DOB, WHAT DID YOU DO??" when I saw the contestant bust on the first two numbers.  What he did is what he often does, just not as we expect:

You get on a big-money show and they play L7:

Five-five-five-five. (0-1)

Three Strikes:  Basically had the price correct in my mind from when I saw the numbers, and was so happy to see the contestant run the first four calls, but then was almost certain we were going to see the strikeout.

That was crowd thermo-nuke #2. (#1 being when Bob came out at the beginning.)  There were many times we were standing more than we were sitting, and that was one of them!! (1-1)

Plinko:  Well, I can say I found where they keep the game listings.  Of course, I annoyed poor Maddy (for more than just the reason that I told her the next game was Plinko) when I did.  Sorry there...

As for the game itself, bad break on the first one, but, by the end, interestingly enough, the contestant had placed one chip in each of the five dollar amounts. (1-1-1)

One Away:  At least two different possibilities, and I'm glad the contestant picked a different one than I did!!  (2-1-1)

Double Prices:  We were sitting almost directly under Rich's podium -- and you COULDN'T HEAR A DAMN THING!!!  It was like "how am I supposed to help the contestant when I don't know how big the boat is???"  After the game, the contestant stayed on stage (for what purpose was unclear) for a moment during Bob's Barkerisms.  :)  (3-1-1)

Triple Pl... ---  erm...

Most Expensive:  That was a "HOLY SH--" moment.  Great reveal by Bob, and by the time the first two vehicles were revealed and only $600 apart, most of us were already standing for the explosion (by this time, I had lost count as to how many!!!)...  (4-1-1)

Showcase:  Well, the first one seemed a little nicer than it turned out to be...  The second one??  A sound system, an arcade game, and...

A story...

The person directly behind us in line told us that he was in the area when he saw a car hauler from West Covina Dodge entering the CBS lot with a tarped-over car which appeared to be in the shape of a Viper.

Maddy kept telling me that something big was probably going to happen, but...

"EIGHTY-NINE THOUSAND...  SEVEN..."

*ROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAR!!!!!!!!!!*

And the first thing I was thinking was "Eighty-nine thousand seven *WHAT????*"...  When I saw Bob point to the podium twice, it was one of those moments where all sense in the studio was lost!!!!

Biggest winner in Price history.
Biggest winner in CBS Daytime history.
The biggest winner in daytime game shows in at least 15 years or so.
The biggest one-shot winner in the history of daytime game shows (???)
The biggest one-show giveaway in the history of daytime game shows (???)

Greatest -- episode -- ever...

For a minute there I thought she overbid when I first saw she bid over $80,000. Glad she didn't!
Congradulations to her! :-D

As for the display, it was flashing the difference for a while before they blanked it -- and I was thinking (as much as I could be thinking ANYTHING at that point) that there was the answer as to what happens when someone "rolls over" the display...

Lucky 7: It was Surpising to see the price fully revealed.  As for game play: I had a bad feeling that Michael would lose once he said 7 as the second number. :-?

3 strikes: WOW! I thought Maria was going to have a heartbreaker by pulling 3 strikes consecutively after things were going so well.  Great comeback win.

Push Over: I knew Vicky Ann won the van once she set the price in the window.

MOst Expensive: Wow. In terms of introduction, that's how Triple Play should be.  As for gameplay: I figured Carolyn won as soon as she picked the Jeep.

Showcases: I thought we were going to have standard showcases until the Viper showed up at the end.  In terms of Bids:  I was surprised that Maria was over on the Saturn.  As for Vicky Ann: I paused for a moment after Bob said $89,..... thinking we had a terrible Double Overbid.  After he said 739 and the showcase difference revealed, my jaw dropped to the floor and left it there as he announced the biggest winner ever through the credits and cake cutting.

Overall: Is it any wonder it's all ready the show of the year?  It's obviously the best opener EVER!!!

I was thinking $86,000 myself, knowing from what Maddy was telling me that those Vipers were low-to-mid $80K.  So I didn't think she was over by as much as the rest of the audience was.  When the first showcase price was revealed, people were thinking DOB, not DSW.

I'm so glad I had my VCR tape this show while I was at school. This show's definitely going to be hard to top, and is probably one of the best episodes I've ever seen! Obviously, the double showcase win was the highlight, but that was definitely not the only one.

The lineup was also great, with Lucky $even and 3 Strikes (with a very exciting win!) in the same half, Most Expensive for three cars, and Double Prices being played fifth.

The showcase reveal was simply amazing. I thought for sure that Vickyann had overbid, but she didn't, and as a result, became the biggest daytime winner ever!

Here's to an awesome Season 35!

I agree; the new one looked a tad bland. Maybe they're just testing some new graphics to see which one they like most. If I recall correctly, 1/2 Off had about three different $10K graphics before they finally settled on one.

And if all else fails, there's always Dom Casual. :D

And well...I don't think I could say anything that hasn't been said already. I thought this episode was going to be good, but I never expected anything like this. Congratulations to Vickyann for her remarkable win!

What can I say?  This show was just amazing and awesome.  My mother is visiting me in Philly this week and she managed to see TPIR (she works in the daytime).  I pointed out Marc and John to her, because they were plain as day right behind Contestant's Row.

Lucky Seven:  I guessed 3 and only missed by one dollar.  I did guess 7 for the second digit and lost 3.  This loss got me a little nervous.  I was hoping this would be a good show, and not a skunked.  Little did I realize that this was a just a blip in the action.

3 Strikes:  My mom and I were on the tip of our seats.  Will Maria pick that last digit or strike out?  When that last digit was in her hand, it was amazing.  An AMAZING win!

Plinko:  Meh.  At least the 10k space was hit once.  She hit each space with each chip.

Push Over:  20,184 was really obvious.

Double Prices:  18k was really obvious.

Most Expensive:  For three cars!  I was so shocked.  I thought it would be played for three trips.  The Wrangler was pretty obvious as the most expensive.  A fabulous win.

Showcases:  I had a hunch Maria was over.  I bid $30,003.  I would have been ok.  Vicki's amazing bid of 89,500.  When Bob said 89 I got a little nervous.  I was hoping it wouldn't be a DOB.  When Bob said 89,739, I was shocked.  Vicki won both showcases and 147,514.  My ma way underbid, 57,900 on the Viper showcase.

Amazing.  Earth shattering.  Price is Right.  One of the best Price is Right episodes ever.

You can close the nominations for show of the season right now. That very well could have been episode of TPIR I've ever seen. I had a terrible feeling that Vickyann had gove over. Never have I been more glad to be wrong.

One word describes my feelings toward this show: AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

HOLY CRUD WHAT A LINEUP!!!
3 Strikes after Lucky 7???? WOW. What a win to boot!!! Full count. GREAT STUFF.

PLINKO: Decent amount won:

2nd half:
WOW!!!
PUSHOVER-Great win
Double Prices: Whoa, when has this ever been in the 5th spot? Great win again.
Most Expensive: OMG, (started hyperventilating upon seeing) ME for cars. Can't beat that.

Showcases: OMG a DSW: What a show, what a show. Might this be the show of the year? I think so. This was freakin' awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

IUFB #1: Ooohh.. a trip! But next time, don't bid $1 on any trips again!

Lucky Seven: Ouch, what a loss! 2-3-4-5, what the...? Speaking of that, nice to see price reveal.

3 Strikes After Lucky 7? Hmm...: Yippee! No wrong choices, 2 strikes, and final digit pulled out mean yowtza win! Next time, CBS, don't ever spoil it on other shows again!

Grand Game... I mean Plinko: $11,600 with 5 chips = decent but ouch! That's not how you start a premiere with this game, Roger! Why not Punchboard or other cash game? However, the amount won was way over other games' max! But still...

Cover Up... I mean Push Over: Quite easy for a car. 'nuff said! I hope they should bring back Family Feud main cue for cars in the future, but...

Money Game... I mean, Line 'em Up... I mean Double Prices: A boat! Woohoo! If it were Line 'em Up, I hope for three extraodinary small prizes.

Most Expensive: Next time, Bob, don't reveal the game before prize reveals ever again! Aside from that, three cars offered mean hallelujiah! I expected Triple Play, anyways! And it's won by picking #2

SCSD #2: Oooh... You beat the contestant by 5 cents and win $1,000. What kind of winning odd is this?

Showcase bid: I was shocked by their decisions and results! If only the top winner bids $33k+, the top record would've been more than that. Oh well... great ending anyway.

Showcase themes: More Barkerisms + TPIR main cue for a car = Interesting, but a little less Barkerism please.

Overall, good episode. But I'm torn between last year's and this year's opener! And I hope for 17 total playings of Plinko this season 'til the end.

EDIT: I hope next year, they don't put quickies in the second half for season premiere again.

Yay!  Season 35 is finally here!  And there's Marc Green and John Sly in the audience to celebrate with Bob, Dob, Rich, and the rest of the gang. :-)

PG #1:  Wow!  It's L7 for a Cadillac to kick off S35!  A nice change of pace from Road or Triple.  And it looks like the Dob hasn't wasted any time in being evil.  $42,345 was just begging for a loss.  The 2 was easy, but I would've gone for 7 on both the third and fourth digits, effectively never getting to the easy 5 at the end.  But at least they were nice enough to reveal the whole price for us.

Commercial after PG #1:  And there's the first Wilford commercial of S35...

PG #2:  3X for a Corvette!  Holy crap--they're not messing around today!  It seems like forever since they've played two pure car games in the same half.  D'OH!  I thought we were gonna have the first exacta in this game in quite some time.  Nonetheless, Maria took the game to very point that makes this PG so exciting (in exactly the same way that I wrote last night in my TPIR PG tournament vote).  Now that the Corvette has been won, I dare say that the rest of the show will be ancillary.  (Little did I know that I would be eating these words later in the day.)

PG #3:  SHOOT THE NEW $50,000 GRAPHIC!  I didn't think the $50,000 graphic could look any worse, but it did.  And when was the last time that a contestant hit every value on the Plinko board?

Commercial after PG #3:  S35 premiere of the Hoveround commercial!  SHOOT THE TVs!

PG #4:  Whoa!  Dob's already starting with the car games in the 4th slot!  Both $19,460 and $20,194 looked good for a Dodge Caravan, but the PS/FP meant that $20,194 had to be the right price.

PG #5:  This is the most excitement that we're gonna get out of DP all season.  OK, 5 games down and 1 to go.  Last game has to be a car/GP game.  Will it be Bucky or Roll?

PG #6:   :-o   :-o   :-o  Most Expensive?!  Man, when was the last time a GP game wasn't played?  I expect shows without SP games, but a show without a GP game?  Absolutely unreal.  But they wouldn't dare play Most Expensive for three cars.  We've talked before on this forum about whether or not it could actually be conceivable to play Most Expensive for three cars.  It ain't gonna happen.  :-o   :-o   :-o  NO FREAKIN' WAY!  Most Expensive for three cars!  So much for the Corvette in 3X being the climax of this season premiere.  Dob set this up for an unbelieveably easy win.  Anybody with an IQ above a sackful of doorknobs would pick the Jeep 4x4.  Now certainly, this show can't possibly get any better... can it?  (I'll be eating those words as well.)

Showcase #1:  Another surprise--this show offers a Saturn.  I don't think a Saturn has ever been offered before on the daytime show.  I know they've been offered on Davidson's show.

Showcase #2:   :-o   :-o   :-o  First a Cadillac, then a Corvette, and now a Viper?!  The Dob just keeps proving me wrong today.  Now absolutely, certainly, 100% this show has reached its climax.  The only way this show could possibly get any better is if Vickyann wins that Viper on a DSW-quality bid.  That'll definitely never happen.  Besides, $89,500 is too much to be a winning bid.

My showcase bids:
Saturn--$38,888
Viper--$82,999

Results:  "Uh-oh!  Maria's over.  After all the fun we've been having, this show is gonna end in a double OB."   :-o   :-o   :-o   :-o   :-o   SHE FRIGGIN' DSWd THE VIPER SHOWCASE?!  Man, what a day for the TV in my office's break room to be on CBS!  Usually, a bunch of girls get to the break room for lunch first and have the TV on "The View".  This show was just one surprise after another.  When Bob began the ARP of Vickyann's showcase--"$89,..."--the entire break room suddenly got quiet.  All noises and conversations stopped and everybody turned to the TV for that brief moment.  Then Bob read the rest of the price and my jaw dropped in shock as I leapt out of my seat.  The entire break room was in shock.  This may sound redundant, but that was absolutely unreal.

Well, Amy Rempel, you had a great run as the queen of daytime TPIR, but your record just got blown out of the water today.

For anybody that wasn't in the chatroom today, I made a brief appearance in there after I left the break room.  What I said in there was classic:

"Hey all... I just dropped in today to deliver some bad news."
"TPIR has officially gone overbudget in its first show."
"It's gonna be Focuses and spas the rest of the way.  Have fun everybody!"

Hands down, this had to be the best episode of TPIR that I have ever seen.  And unless somebody DSWs or wins the million dollars on a primetime spectacular, this'll be the last all-around exciting episode that we'll ever see.

But that'll never, ever, EVER, EVER happen...

Will it?

Pushy 1st, Lucky 2d, Plinko 3d, Dubble 4th, Strikes 5th, Most 6th

The press absolutely flooded the stage during the closing credits. A couple of them ran into the cameraman, which caused a couple of unpreventable shakes during the end.

Carolyn's best reaction to the three cars came somewhere around the reveal of car number two, so unfortunately, they couldn't cut back to her until after the initial "pop."

Usually, when somebody bids $xx,500 on a showcase and Bob reads the "xx", a couple people in the audience will start screaming prematurely, not realizing that an overbid is still possible. But it was so absolutely quiet in that studio when Bob said "Eighty-nine thousand..." Amazing.

And in chat, within a span of about thirty seconds after Bob announced the actual retail price, there were over 50 messages, most to the effect of "holy [naughty word]".

So I've been swirling that bid around in my head since the episode taped, trying to figure out where $89,500 came from. Contestants never bid that well on the expensive cars! My only conclusion is that it had to have come from somebody from this site. After the taping, there were a few people getting autographs from Roger and Kathy. Since the number of people usually doing that is zero, it's obvious we had some loyal friends and true in the studio. So who had $89,500?

It's hard to describe how great this show was without repeating what has been said, but I think this will suffice:

*ahem*

:-o UHBUHHBUHHBUHHBUHHBUHH......

Thank you.

I mentioned in chat that Lucky Seven seemed rather hard for the first game of a Premiere.  The only reason I had a shot at winning is because I got the second number right (picked 6 for the second, and might have gone 65 for the end.)

I cried during Most Expensive.

Haven't had time to read all the comments, but this HAS TO BE the best SHOW EVER! I don't know how anybody could say it ISN'T(even though the Cadillac loss was a downer)
L7 Forced Loss. And the 7 being called didn't help, obviously

3S: Really took me by surprise. On the heels of L7, this has to be a first ever. The setup was very easy in this, but she took it down to the wire!

Plinko: Not a bad win. Go figure, we had a 10k hit in this today, and it was actually the cheapie game(in comparison!) of the whole show. This shows what the Dob had in store, but

Before I say anything else, I want to again take a moment to thank TPiR Producer Roger Dobkowitz.  I have known Roger for nearly ten years now, and it was really hard to believe that I was sitting in the same room with him as he celebrated the start of HIS 35th year on Price.

Roger – I thank you very much for all you have done for me, this site, and the site’s members.  I am thankful each and every day that our relationship has become what it has.  Here’s to another 35 years with you seated at the end of the Producer’s Table.

Now, on to the show…

- Going into the studio on Thursday, I had a very good idea of what the lineup was to be…but never in my wildest dreams would I have thought that it was all to come together so beautifully.  I was glad to see that the lone downer moment of the show was behind us fast…because from then on it was full steam ahead.  The 3 Strikes climax made my armpits wet (hope it didn’t show on camera), and the Most Expensive / DSW combo was just too much.  Totally unbelievable – I purposely stayed off of the AIM so that I wouldn’t give any of it away!  I have now seen the show of all shows.

- I’ve been to lots of tapings, and never have I seen a crowd this pumped!  From the Bob chants to the media to the overall volume in the room…just too much!  And how about that confetti…I too was trying to figure out where it came from, but I didn’t want to look too hard – I knew that I had a CBS close-up coming up.

- As the winner of our Kickoff Contest will be able to confirm via his or her script, Showcase #2 was slotted with a Lincoln instead of a Viper.  If you can believe it, the Lincoln was pulled for fear of a double overbid (the Saturn certainly looks more expensive than it is).  When Vickyann bid $89,500, John and I looked over to the Producer’s Table and saw Roger nearly banging his head on the table.  Oh no, a DOB on Dob’s big day, we thought!  The ensuing commercial break was very quick, only confirming my suspicion that no more doors were to be opened.  When Bob read Vickyann’s Showcase ARP, I nearly fell to the ground…I could not believe what I was witnessing.  History in the making, and I was honored to be there for it all.

- The big question:  Where in the world did Vickyann come up with $89,500?  Apparently, she was asked after the taping.  From what I was told, there was a group in the audience that was urging her to bid $90,000…but Vickyann was scared to bid in the $90k range…so she shaved $500 off of the advice and went with it.  Good for her!

So, that’s what I’ve got for now.  A big thank you to everyone who made this trip possible, and to all of you loyal friends of the site.  More to come in the upcoming weeks!

Marc

...continued...the page ran out. But we die hards even got taken for a ride on this show

Pushover: Actually 3 good choices for the van, but given the budget buster, 20k seemed pretty obvious.

DP: We knew this was a win from those pics we already saw, but I thought maybe they'd throw another car at us. We already know why...

Most Expensive: This is the first time for 3 cars in  this, correct? Last time I recall this(other than TP) was the 3 cars in OWP back in 2003 on the MDS. Wow, just wow, and I was thinking we saw the brunt of the stuff given away early in the show. Heh, I like being wrong in this instance! Bob did kinda give it away when he told her what she was playing for

Showcases: Truly both would have been on a MDS, and her chances of bidding a DO were like hitting the lottery. Anything over 60k is tough enough just to WIN, but she BUSTED THE BUDGET! WOOT! WTG! And I'm sure we won't be seeing Goldie or TP or 3S until about March!

This show needs to be eternally archived. I hope somebody gets some clips on youtube, this truly deserves to be recognized!

I'm still wired from the DSW at 11:55, and it's 6:40.

Another board raises a conspiracy theory that VickiAnn's bid of $89,500 after Bob called for it was so abrupt that the train of thought is the Showcase was probably rigged, just to give the show a ratings boost (as if it needed one).

2 flaws with that theory.

1) Bob doesn't know the ARP of the Showcases.  I believe there has been one instance when he was so shocked about how off a reasonable bid was, he went over to the Producers Table to make sure it wasn't a misprint before the actual reveal.

2) Bob does that all the time, especially when strapped for time.

I truly thought Vickiann overbid, truly luck.

Question: When the gal won 183k on the MDS in 2005, was it a DSW or not? I'll check the old board to find the summary, but can't remember the airdate for it. Steve? John? Anybody? Thanks

EDIT: My luck is as good as Vickiann's..found this quickly. No, it wasn't a DSW, so Vickiann truly has the moment of TPIR ever! I don't think this could be topped, maybe a Million Dollar win on the wheel in a future MDS might be the next one.

http://www.golden-road.net/grnoldx/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=7463

EDIT #2: Is it me, or was Rich at his best today also? Even with a show that might of deserve some "SHOUTING", I think he has got this thing down! We didn't see him on camera, but there was too many people on stage anyhow. Might have got cut off courtesy of the CBS split screen crew?

And this will be the last that this theory will be brought up on this site.  As if the show's reputation alone was not enough, as if US law was not enough...I was there, I saw everybody's reaction...nothing was rigged or staged.

We're on the 6th page already??  :-D

Well, what can I say other than what's been said already?  Just a FABULOUS show. (I don't thing anyone's used that adjective yet.  :-D )

Lucky Seven first was a disappointment.  I knew Strikes would be played (from The Early Show's spoiler  ), so I hoped it would be first.  Even more disappointing when it was lost -- it was set up for a win!!

The Three Strikes win -- amazing!!  Four in a row, then two strikes, then the clincher!  This is exactly why it's my favorite game.

About Plinko... it was ordinary.

Pushy for a car: no surprise here.

Come on, guys.  DP might have been set up easy, but was it really THAT easy?  It's a Friggin' Random Boat we're talking here!

Most Expensive -- WOW!  I actually suspected three cars that time, because of the extra-wordy buildup by Bob, and add the fact that a trip to Cancun was IUFB #1.  And a win too??  Amazing!  I thought for a second it was the Malibu, but then realized they now come in the El Cheapo variety.

In the second Showdown, I thought for a second we could have our first $10,000 winner on our first show this season after that nasty drought last season.  Oh well. :-)

Showcases -- What else can I say?  Just amazing.

Last season premiere, as I recall, there was a $90,000+ showcase including a Cadillac XLR.  So this wasn't so shocking to me.

As a few here have said, I can't believe there wasn't a GP game in this episode.  Then again, I didn't really think they'd end with LER or PTB.

Two questions for John:  What were the five events you were referring to in the "Trip" thread in The TALK is Right, and who is the new gold star going to? :-)

Well it was a very good season opener....

...until the last pricing game and the Showcase  :-D

My one quibble about Most Expensive (which I would have lost badly, going for the PT Cruiser) was Bob telling us it was going to be played before revealing the prizes.  Once he did that, it seemed pretty obvious that 3 cars would be on the line.  IMO just going right to the reveal would have been a little more jaw-dropping.

Oddity of the day up until then - Kimala hitting for the cycle ($0, $100, $500, $1000 and $10000) in Plinko.

OK, CBS. You hear all these people saying someone should archive this show. Before someone else does it for you on YouTube (and in turn CBS or Fremantle perhaps demanding YouTube remove it), I have one word for you...

INNERTUBE!

If it's good enough for Survivor, Amazing Race and Big Brother, it's good enough for Price. Get with it!

(While we're on the subject, everyone with broadband should check that part of cbs.com on Wednesday for a Price-related treat.)

Unbelievable.

After watching that on tape just 90 minutes ago, I am still shocked at how Vickyann bid that showcase.

Here's a rundown of what I saw:

Opening: The Barker Wall was moved before the Door #2 closed!  I'm not sure I've ever seen that before, though frankly I really didn't notice it before now.

Lucky 7: I'm not so sure I'd have won this.  Even though I guessed 3 for the first number, I had a 6 for the next one, and by then I knew the whole price, so my next guesses wouldn't have mattered, although I was sure of the 5 at the end.

3 Strikes: I like how Bob played this one.  She placed the first four numbers right on the first try!  I thought we were headed for an exacta!

Plinko: I knew this game was in today's show, so it was obvious to me -- and I'm sure most of you out there -- that this wasn't going to be a all-car show like #5,000.  All four prices contained the last digit of the wrong price!  Congrats to Kimala for stopping the Dob!  I thought for sure one of those would have been the first.

Push Over: This was a flat out giveaway for Loyal Friends and  True who know the first price is never right.  Vickyann may have one or more of them around, and she may be herself.  We'll get to that later.

Double Prices: Getty Images, please check your facts.  I might be getting nit-picky here, but the pic that goes along with William's boat win is captioned that he's reacting "after winning a car."  Not that I care or anything, but when I saw that boat after looking at that image, it took me by surprise.  But that wasn't the biggest surprise of the day by any means.

Most Expensive: Nearly another dead giveaway.  Most of us around here know that Wranglers look like they should be 15k but run over 19k, and that PT Cruisers look 19k but actually start at 16k.  The Malibu is an entry-level mid-size car, so that takes that one out of the equation.

Showcases: Now this surprise left me speechless for nearly half an hour.  I saw the bids pop up, and using last model year's prices as a basis, I thought we had a sure Double Overbid to spoil our premiere party.  My bids were $28,500 on the Saturn showcase (difference ~4,580) and $81,000 on the Viper showcase (difference 8,789).  When the prices were revealed, I had the same reaction as many of you in the chat.  I'm sure nobody in Price Productions saw that coming when they drew out the episode last month.  Sure, someone could come close on the Saturn showcase (as Maria almost did; I thought for sure her bid was going to be $33,000 before she announced 35), but the VIPER?  NO POSSIBLE WAY!!  I just hope this doesn't lead to forced El Skunko's later on down the road.

I am so glad I taped this show.  I'll add the rest of Premiere Week and keep them forever.

Well thanks a lot, Vickyann; I had to give up a dime to my grandmother because of your great bidding.  :-P

Seriously, that was one hella-va show!  The cars, the cash, the (something related to the double-showcase win that begins with a "c")!

Who were those two weirdos that got a close-up and were sitting in the front row?  8-)

You know, from the start of the showcase, I was thinking someone was going to get the double showcase and go over the $125K limit*.  However, I was expecting to see Maria do that since she had more prizes.  I know, silly reasoning, sounds like you-know-who speaking, but you can't help a person like me.  :-)

Oh yeah, [ComicBookGuy]Best Show Ever.[/CBG]

*Do they still have that?

\Oh yeah, Wooop, Wooop, Wooop, 1200 posts.

Not a bad little show. Not bad at all.  :-D

You just can't script shows like this. Well, actually you can. But I mean a 5/6 day with a DSW? How often does that often, let alone with the, how would you say, quality of the prizes?  :-D

$89,500. $89,500. Where in the world..........How in the world.........Who in the world? Oh, VickiAnn, of course.  :-)

What did the podium show for VickiAnn's total, by the way? I hope this wasn't asked/answered before.

Lucky Seven: I would have guessed $41,735.

Three Strikes: Darn! Almost a perfect playing. I only consider Three Strikes won when no strikes are pulled out of the bag during the ENTIRE game. That shows you how much of a perfectionist I am.

Plinko: I consider this a loss as well.

Push Over: There were two good prices here.

Double Prices: I knew this one as soon as they revealed the game board.

Most Expensive: WOW! Three cars were offered, and they were won!

Showcases: A DSW on a season premiere! It doesn't get much better than this on a daytime show!

Today, knowing that I would be in school, I set the VCR (and boy am I glad I did)

(Un)Lucky 7: Kinda tricky considering PiR doesnt give Cadillacs away often

3 Strikes: Maria Played that perfectly. When she had drawn the 2 strikes, I got nervous thinking she had done that well and lost.

Plinko: Usual $10,000+ win

Pushover: I went with the $20,000 too, mainly because the base price of a Caravan up here is $28,000! Minivans arent cheap up here.

Double Prices: Somewhat easy.

Most Expensive: I thought right at the moment when Bob said she would play Most Expensive that it would be played for 3 cars. This was a tad easy if you pay attention to the prices of the cars.

Showcases: :-o  :-o  :-o  :-o  :-o  :-o  :-o  :-o  :-o  :-o OMG!!! At first I thought that Maria had a great bid, until she went over. I thought we had a double overbid. I nearly haf a heart attack when Bob started reading Vickyann's showcase prize.

Best Contetant: Vickyann (duh!)

Show Rating: 100/10 :-D

lucky $even-ouch I had a feeling that Micheal miss his first number he was going to be in trouble, It was pretty much over by the third number.

3 stirkes-Maria play ver well there. I thought for a moment there she was get three strikes in a row. But she won pretty much.

piinko-$11,600 isn't to bad of a way to end the first half.

pushover-the moment that Vicki put that at $20,194 i knew she won that van.

double prices-$18,994 was also what i would said.

most expensive-Marylin made a right choice as far what car was the most expensive

Showcase showdown omg the daytime record won'rt be beat for a long time.

Only one way to describe today's show: UN-BEE-LIEVE-ABLE!

L7: Was clearly setup for a win with all 5's but it just didn't happen. Speaking of which, when's the last time that a contestant actually used the all 5's strategy for L7?

3 Strikes: Great win off of a full count!

Plinko: Meh... basic run of the mill plinko playing.

Push Over: Again, setup for a win because the other 2 prices looked cheap.

DP: 5th? I thought $18,994 was too much - shows how good I am at CSS.

ME: Whoa... Who'd thunk it? I'd would've picked the Malibu and lost.

Showcases: Unbelievable - A DSW to end the season premiere and the biggest winner in Price is Right Daytime history.

Was the confetti actually staged by someone in the audience?

Stunned.  Shocked.  EUPHORIA!

I've actually managed to work the VCR, just for this, so hooray for me and to those who no longer have to tell me what colour a certain sportscar is! :-P

Wow.  This is just absolutely amazing.  The first half of the show was quite spectacular, especially the one-two slotting of Lucky Seven and Three Strikes.  Who knew they could ever appear on an episode together?... in this kind of time and day, mind you. ;-)  So... a Cadillac and a Corvette.  Going through the pricey cars now, are we?  Plinko was actually exciting, because Kimala was just a jumping bag of joy throughout the entire game.

Second half went by quickly... very quickly.  I wonder if it had anything to do with Pushover, Double Prices, and Most Expensive getting played? :-P  Pushover for a van was nothing new, and neither was Double Prices for a boat (which already happened on the MDS).  But then Most Expensive came by and did almost the impossible and got played for 3 cars!  Absolutely fantastic!  Who needs a MDS?!  That was a bit tough, considering they threw in a Malibu (which was pretty cheap) with a Jeep, but nonetheless, it was still won.

Now for the Showcases.  Um... Saturn Sky, who knew they would have Saturns on the show... Anyhow, obviously, the bestest amazing single moment on the show ever for me.  Stereo system... all right, slow buildup.  Then a board game supposedly called Fortune Hunters (yay for the reference!) for an arcade game... we're getting close.  Then the set of keys.  Then the doors.  Then the opening.  Then came the epitome of them all, the brilliant yellow like the eternal glowing sun... by God, it's the one, the only, the VIPER!

Hm... my reaction?

[color=FFCC00]OH HARK THE ANGELS SING!  I BOW DOWN INTO UNCONSCIOUSNESS BY THE GRACE OF YOUR PRESENCE! [/color][/b]

(Well, it wasn't like that, but you get the point. ;-))

Anyhow!... I thought VickyAnn's bid was marvelous, as for actually bidding something that's worth more than half the car's price alone. :-D  The price reveals were even more nerve-wrecking.  After Maria went over... oh man, this makes 3 Strikes' earlier appearance in the show bland by comparison.  Either VickyAnn won it, won it very well, or just got stomped to the ground by a double overbid.  But she pulls off the most spectacular win ever with a DSW to boot!!!  New record!  Can't display winnings!  Happiness and joy!  A Viper in a home!

And we all live happily ever after!...

... at least until the next episode.  :D

This was an absolutely stunning episode - perhaps the best there has ever been, especially with 2 people winning 3 cars each!

I figured we'd have more cars than usual, but not like this!

Even VickyAnn, who won the cheapest vehicle offered today more than makes up with it.  Her bid will have to go down as one of the all time greatest bids ever.

If only CBS 2 Chicago kept the preview of the news after the bid reveal.  They probably would have said, "Wow, what a bid."

Best opener overall, best for me since the Chantel-Nikki change over in Season 28 (I think).

All i could say was WOW, WOW, AND TRIPLE WOW!!!

I thought both had overbid on their showcases, but $89,000+?
I would've never bid that high.  I was thinking the mid 70's

Most Expensive for 3 cars? I knew they were gonna play a game to give away 3 cars, but i was thinking Triple Play, not Most Expensive.  What an easy way to win 3 cars!!

I think Lucky Seven was set up for a loss.  Usually, the second number in the price of a Cadillac CTS is 6-9.

I about fell out of my seat when 3 Strikes was won.  I really wanted her to win that Corvette.

Overall, there gonna have to work really hard to top todays show.  It was one of the best in the past 3 years in my opinion!

Isn't that win total (147,517) the biggest win total of any format of PIR?  I remember some Air Force guy winning about 128,000+ on one of the MIllion Dollar Specials, so this should top them all!!

Great way to start season 35!!

I think that I'll take some credit for the bid that VickyAnn made.  I immediately started holding up nine fingers to her and josh24, who was next to me, and another "single guy" whose name I cannot remember, joined in with me shouting $90,000.  I knew the Vipers we around 85 and the game was about $3,600 or so.  Like Marc said, where she decided to shave $500 I'll never know, but I am SOOOOOO glad she did.

Nothing can compare the feeling I had when those horns sounded.  Just like with Amy, I bawled like a baby to have witnessed LIVE the events that occurred on August 31.

Another funny note.  MSTieScottt mentioned the deafening silence when the SC was revealed.  The same thing happened when Maria was on the road to #X perfecta and then drew two straight strikes.  The whole audience was sooooooo nervous that she was not gonna win the Corvette.  Whew!

For those of you who have never made the pilgrimage to Beverly and Fairfax, treat yourself and go.  Nothing you'll ever see on TV truly captured the electricity of actually being there.

I would just like to thank Joe_Capitano for the recap of today's show, as I am ashamed to say that I did not record it.

Based on what the recap says, and all the positive reactions from all of the members, I would assume that this was an incredible season opener.

6 models is quite a nice treat for the 35th opener. Based on the lineup and what was played for, this easily could have been an MDS.

A trip to Cancun was the first prize offered for the 34th season opener, just a note.

By the looks of it, Lucky Seven would have been won if all 5's were guessed. Oh well. I never would have guessed 3 Strikes after Lucky Seven! And what an intense playing it must have been. A great first playing for 3 Strikes this season! What a great but unexpected treat too!

Plinko was just predictable. Nice to see it won for it's first playing.

The 2nd half got even better! Pushover was easy, and played for a car, Double Prices in the rare fifth spot, and then Most Expensive for three cars!? Then, a DSW! Good for Vickyann, and congrats for being the biggest daytime winner on the show!

I can't believe what a show this was. 8 cars, almost $300,000 won, and DSW on the season opener. There were also two things I noticed, the first one being no grocery products today, and also, since Vickyann won over $100,000 and the show did not have the MDS showcase podiums up, one of the numbers would have been cut off the podium display, if they had shown it, right?

This is to an amazing first episode, and for many more to come! Once again Joe_Capitano, thank you very much.

The five events I was referring to were:

- 6 Models in Daytime
- Most ever offered AND given away on a single Daytime show
- Biggest Daytime Winner of all time
- Most Expensive for 3 Cars
- Lucky/Strikes kickoff

And to a lesser extent, the rarity of Double Prices played 5th and such an unbelievable bid on an expensive showcase.

I was TOLD that "Koslen18" was Contestant #8 today.

COMMENTS ON TPIR #35 SEASON OPENER 9/18/06:

Before I make my comments, I want to say:  WELCOME TO SEASON #35!

Now, on to my Season Opener comments:

1.  LUCKY 7:  Lucky 7 first on a Season Opener? I was kind of expecting Golden Road or Triple Play in this slot.  As for the game, it wasn't played too well.  Missing by $3 on the first number did Michael in.

2.  3 STRIKES: Thanks to good game play, Maria has herself a CORVETTE!

3.  COMMENT TO DOB:  Where did the confetti come from? I started to think that this was used on MDS's for a $1 million win.

4.  PLINKO:  The SP's were no-brainers if you knew what you were doing.  Kimala started out slow, but then scored $11,600, which was a good haul.

5.  MOST EXPENSIVE:  Played for 3 CARS, and won!  However, playing for 3 cars made today's playing kind of tricky.

6.  SHOWCASE:  Our Season Opener has a DOUBLE SHOWCASE WINNER!!! Looks like Season #35 is off to a great start!

Something I forgot to mention before about the new system of rating the show's thread based on how good a show was: I don't think we should consider this show as part of the system -- it has redefined what a five-out-of-five show should be like!

Show #6412
Let the furniture wars begin!  It's the Price is Right Season 35: Ashley vs. Broyhill!

The whinbaby prize plan for TPIR: Season 35
- Update the Season 35 prize list daily after a show airs.  I will be sorting by prize, price, date, and models.
- Update the Season 34 prize list on weekends (I am only up to December 5 so far).  I might be done with that by mid-November.

Showcase #1
Trip to New York City - $4,050
4 DXG Digital Cameras - $660
2007 Saturn Sky - $28,379

Showcase #2
JBL Home Theater System - $999
Robotron/Joust Video Arcade Game - $2,995
Dodge Viper SRT10 - $85,745 (also seen on Game$how Marathon's Let's Make a Deal)

Modeling Report for September 18, 2006
The machine is back and better than ever!  Introducing...the Modeling Machine 6000!
$150,259...Impressive start, Rachel!  I am also very impressed with Gabrielle's total of $144,849.  But Shane Stirling still holds the all-time record of $187,183 from September 19, 2005.  Also, with Brandi's $44,213, this is the first time since 2000 there was a modeling total below $50,000 on a season premiere.  Janice Pennington's total on October 2, 2000 (Season 29 premiere) was about $37,730.

No Ashleys?  No Broyhills?  OK, so this is a 24-prize package is worth $377,453!

I have to say that I think this is the best season opener I've ever seen. I love the rainbow colors and everything. It's just beautiful.

Lucky $even: It was a shame he didn't win. But I did notice something different. They actually revealed the entire price after he was broke. Do you think this is a permanent change?

3 Strikes: The season premiere is the perfect episode for this game. I couldn't believe she pulled out the first 4 numbers, and guessed them exactly. I was hoping she would get all 5 of them in a row, which I don't think has ever happened. And when she pulled out 2 strikes in a row, I was horrified that she was going to pull out the 3rd one, and I was very happy when she pulled out the last number.

Most Expensive: It was rare and a bit wierd that Bob revealed the name of the game before it was played, but it was great to have it being played for 3 cars.

Showcase: It was wierd how they had the show's main theme as a prize cue. And when she bid $89,500, I seriously thought there was going to be a double overbid. Then Bob revealed the price dramatically and said "Eighty-nine thousand...seven..." And I was very relieved. I couldn't believe how much she won! I'd say Season 35 is off to a good start!

No, it shows me that you're being an idiot.  That's totally absurd.

Congratulations, Koslen18!

You know, I just realized something--not only is Vickyann the biggest Daytime winner in TPiR history, I might be wrong again on this one, but she might've wound up being second in ALL-TIME WINNINGS--just under $40,000 behind Sheena (MDS winner)!!

The 35th Season is Up and Running. Could this year's be more exciting and super than last season's opener? I was ready to see:

IUFB #1: HELLO!!!!! :-o  :-o  :-o

Lucky 7: Well, I was expecting that Caddy was about $44K, but after he chose 5 as his 1st choice. I smelled trouble.

3 Strikes: If it wasn't for that goshdarn "Early Show" spoiling it all, I would've enjoyed it more. However, Maria made it a spectacular win and very dramatic when it was down to one strike and one number.

Plinko: That graphic is no good. Great to see more than $11K won.

IUFB #4: Double HELLO!!! :-o  :-o  :-o

Pushover: I would've chose $19K. Shows you what I know. Great win.

Double Prices: Not amused seeing this. Even if it was played fifth and for a boat. Great win, though.

Most Expensive: When Bob announced the game first, I thought "Holy Crap, It's for 3 Cars". The Jeep was too obvious. But still, another great win.

SCSD #2: The first $11K win? Nah.

Showcases: OK, I predicted maybe two expensive big ones after last season's $90K Cadillac XLR big one. The 1st was pretty much normal. Hearing the theme played during the Saturn reveal was very interesting. The 2nd was as predicted with an expensive car. So after a Cadillac and a Corvette, I kinda predicted the last prize was a Cabin Cruiser or a Motorhome  :D , but I was wrong. It was a VIPER!!!

The results: When Bob read the ARP of the 1st showcase, My thoughts were "Oh No, A D.O.", Bob slowly reads the ARP, He reads "Eighty-Nine Thousand....", I pause and think "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO", and says "Seven Thirty-Nine", I was SHOCKED!!! :-o New daytime record. Biggest DSW ever. Vickyann has gotta be the luckiest woman in the whole wide world!!! I bow down to the new queen and I bow down to Bob for giving us an Incredible, Spectacular, and Unbelievable way to kickoff a Milestone year. I also bow down to the models for knowing how to keep up excellent work for staying good and HOT!!! :-D

Seeing this show proves once and for all that "The Price is Right" is the show that just keeps on giving away the good stuff and that no other show can give us the earth-shattering fun that we see here everyday. TPIR is FOREVER #1!!!!!!!!

I know what CGJ said but I will be putting up some videos on yousendit from the premiere, hopefully before tomorrow.

- I love the new set, especially the new doors!

- Lucky Seven: Not an easy car to price, but winnable at least.

- Three Strikes: It's nice to see this game today, and played well too.

- Most Expensive: You don't see this game offering cars that often, that's for sure.

- Showcases: Spectacular bidding, it just couldn't end better than that!

I thought Maria bid well on her showcase---but when it was only $33,000 I was like Oh boy.

I had a hunch Vickyann went over but I was shocked she was less than $240 away....

Giving away over $340,000 in cash and stuff today---I have a feeling that they are going to be having some financial difficulties....

Also Lucky Seven today was a forced loss---I don't think Roger wanted it won....

Huh? It was setup for the all 5's crowd. If You picked all 5's down the line you would have won today, by the slimmest of margins of course, but still a win.

I know it's been said a hundred times, but if that wasn't the greatest episode in game show history, I don't know what is.  My jaw is still sitting on the floor, and it's been almost 12 hours since the DSW.

To quote someone's reaction to the DSW...

BAHBAHBAHBAHABHABHA

Wow.  That's all I can say.  Wow.

On a slightly related side note, my VCR FUBARed today  :-x If anyone else has a recording of the show, let me know, because I am not happy that it loused up at a very critical time.

I have video editing software.. I can put together a dvd of the 35th season premiere... Would that be something anyone would be interested in? (those who had recording failures, or those who just want to preserve the moment...)

Please let me know... if theres enough interest, I'll work on it! :-)

This has got to be the most posts ever for a daytime episode.  I like everyone else, was totally shocked at the dsw.  When maria overbid, I was afraid of an overbid. But when bob said 89 thousand, I know my eyes were glued to the tv waiting to see what would happen and I just couldnt believe it.  I couldnt even type dsw right on the chat because I was shaking.

I checked the front page as soon as I got home from work... and I could kick myself for not playing hooky!  This is just unbelievable!  $147,517!  What kind of luck does it take to win all THAT?!

I thought the old record of $97,130 was unbeatable.  But I was wrong... FINALLY, someone has broken the $100,000 barrier on the daytime show.  For that reason, they should use the 6-digit MDS podiums from here on out -- and make interchangeable frontplates for them or something...

I bet Maria is kicking herself for not passing her showcase... or as Bob would have said, "she shot herself in the parking lot!"  But had Maria bid an even $33,000... she would have walked away with $178,777 in prizes, and would have been the first contestant to win THREE convertibles.

Still, I'm awestruck by today's show.  The only way that record can be beaten is if someone wins Golden Road and both showcases -- on a very high budget show.  Odds are that won't happen any time soon, if at all.  Vickyann was a great contestant and deserved to win it all, but if it was me, they'd have had to hold me down -- I would be bouncing all over the studio!

The Saturn, by the way, is an American car according to the website. They are based in Spring Hill, TN. I know that in the past components or even whole cars have come from abroad, but I don't know about the Sky, and can't find any detailed information. Of course, right now FAR more Toyota Camrys are made in the US than in Japan (at least for the US market).

Still, what a show!!!

Shows what I know about Saturn's! LOL!  I would have gone about $60,000!  I didn't know that they were a less expensive car.  I thought the Viper was about $83,000.

One of the greatest epsides in not only Price is Right history, but also in the history of game show moments!  This ENTIRE EPISODE MUST BE ARCHIVED!

Oh my god. Oh my god. I said that more times than I could count 18 days ago, and I'm still saying it.

Can you imagine what it has been like to keep this under wrap for 18 days?! To read all these posts from people eagarly anticipating this episode, and not only thinking "I've already seen it", but "HISTORY WAS MADE, AND IT WILL BE MADE AGAIN ON SEPTEMBER 18!"?!

I can go on and on about the games themselves, but what can I say that wasn't seen? We all saw what unfolded, and we may very well be talking about it 35 years from now! But what I can certainly chime in on was the thoughts and feelings of what was unfolding around me on this TRULY historic day on The Price Is Right....

As some of you know (Koslen for one), I posted about the experience on my blog on September 1. I talked about the fun and insanity hanging out at Television City. I talked about Chuck! Chuck! Chuck!, and Bob! Bob! Bob!, and even Dob! Dob! Dob!, but I withheld the details of the show itself.

And I titled that post "I SACRIFICED MY VOICE FOR TELEVISION HISTORY!", because I was hoarse for a week after that. I truly did leave my voice in the Bob Barker Studio that day.

And you know what? I don't regret it. It's still hard to believe that in three months, I was damned lucky and took part in two incredible moments: The Confessions Tour (ending my 20 year wait to finally experience and FEEL Madonna live!), and this incredible season premiere...

But, of course, the catch was that nobody (except those of us who were there that fateful day) knew what I meant by "television history". For all they know, I was just talking about the love fest we took part in on this historic season premiere.

And, it was indeed a love fest. Love for Bob. Love for Rich. Even some love for Roger. Love for US for all the love we gave.

And, of course, Chuck Chuck Chuck!

Bob got several standing ovations that day, and with every one but the first, he asked us to stop. He said one was more than enough, that we were spoiling him. But you know what? Bob wasn't getting those standing ovations that day because it was August 31, 2006...

He was receiving 35 years of love. And I'm sorry, Bob, but you're wrong. You deserved every one of them, and more.

The energy, the passion, the excitement was unbelievable. The only time I've ever felt anything comparable was for THE Queen and THE Confessions Tour on June 3.

The only difference is, 18,000 people generated that passion, love and energy that night. I don't know, but the 334 idiots who entered the Bob Barker Studio on August 31 might've matched it.

Pound for pound, they certainly surpassed it.

As Willy put it so well in the chat, TV did not capture the thunder that greeted Bob when he walked through those big doors. He's right, and he's quite right by calling it thunder. I don't think I've ever heard, nor FELT, anything like that in my life!

The only thing is, that thunder wasn't just for Bob. Rich got some. Contestants got some.

And, of course, Chuck did too!

I was amped up and going nuts before they even cued the music. Some of that was the anticipation - a season premiere! A MILESTONE season premiere, no less!

But a great deal of that was the energy around me. Everyone felt they were walking into something BIG, and it showed. You heard it. You saw it. And, you FELT it.

It was almost as if we had 334 people who wanted to cheer as loud, have as much energy and show as much love as the past 34 seasons worth of audiences did... COMBINED.

Not to mention the fact you knew you were walking into something big when you entered the studio to see the lights on, to hear the music blaring, and to see people with cameras up on stage, capturing us as we entered the studio... Capturing us as we went crazy before the show began. All I can say is it was unreal.

(By the way, KCBS ran a piece about the season premiere during the 11 am news, and to my surprise, I ended up getting a real good look at myself and Starcade during the news. No joke!)

Of course, there were the thrills and the surprises...

Watching that CTS roll on out for Lucky $even was incredible. It had amazed me that in my prior three trips I hadn't yet seen L$ in person - especially as much as it was played. And it was great to see it played for a Caddy!

3 Strikes? What can I say, but this has always been one of my favorite games, one I always wanted to see in person... And to see it played for a Corvette - and WON?! Unreal!

Less than 15 minutes into the show, and I already got to cross something off the list of things I always wanted to see in person! :)

Plinko? Ehh... But, at least this playing was far less painful than Andrew's... A $10,000 chip, no less!

Pushover for a minivan? Definitely cool...

We actually saw the Double Prices prop wheeled out during the fifth IUFB. I had to keep from gasping when I saw those price tags... William not only won, but had a great deal of fun up on stage during the commercial break!

But then Most Expensive? It was funny, but I was talking to Alfonzo a few days before the taping about it. We were both agreeing on how exciting it is, and I said as a joke "Yeah, maybe it'd be fun if it was played for three cars!"

So when Bob started talking about ME, I just sat there. "Oh my god, they're going to play it for three cars!"

Fortunately, Carolyn went against the audience (or took my advice  :-P)and took that Jeep.

At some point around here (either after the ME win, or the second Showcase Showdown), Starcade turn to me and said it's been one heck of a show. All I could do is verbalize my thoughts:

"It ain't over yet."

I figured we'd see fireworks during the Showcases, and try to close out this season premiere with a bang...

The Showcases, for me, have always been the most exciting part of the show. Maybe this is because I've watched since 1979, back when we had only one cash game, and an awful lot of four-figure cars. It seemed like the real excitement would always come at the end of the show.

I recall hearing Bob always explain the rules, and that if a contestant was the winner, and $100 or less away from the APR of their own Showcase, they'd win both. And for a while, I wondered "Yeah, but does it EVER happen?!"

Of course, I finally saw one. 1981 or 1982.. An older woman. I don't recall what her Showcase was. But she bid $10,000, and her Showcase wound up being $10,056.

I've seen many since... On television. But I always hoped to catch lightning in a bottle and see one in person.

I was lost on Maria's Showcase, sadly. I did not recognize what kind of car that was (found out today finally it was a Saturn Sky). And, of course, I couldn't hear Rich, despite being about five feet away from him...

So, I honestly didn't know if $35,000 was a good bid or not. I mean, it LOOKED like an expensive car, but...

Just SEEING VickyAnn's Showcase was exciting. However, a great deal of the audience didn't like her bid. Some were shouting $60,000 and $70,000. And there were more than a few groans after she gave that bid.

I was thinking "She's close. SCARY close." As in she could be over.. She could tease us..

Or she could do the unthinkable.

Needless to say, I was nervous, especially after we saw Maria went over.

Sadly, however, I couldn't see the display on VickyAnn's podium - there was a cameraman directly between me and her. So I had to rely on Bob - for a few seconds that is...

The place went pretty wild once we heard Bob say "Eighty nine thousand, seven hundred" - just over the fact we knew she'd won her Showcase.

But hear the rest of it? Forget it.. So, I had to rely on the monitor for the rest...

And when I looked up at the monitor to see "239" on the display, I just went nuts. I pointed at the monitor. I screamed. I shouted. I high-fived random people.

Or, in the words of Jack Buck: "I DON'T BELIEVE WHAT I JUST SAW!"

I had always wanted to see a DSW in person? Well, this was like going to a Madonna concert, and making eye contact with her from five feet away... I didn't just get a DSW, I was standing 15 feet away as game show history unfolded!

Someone earlier in this thread said they were moved to tears? Believe me, it took every bit of self-control to not lose it.

I mean, I have been a game show junkie all my life, and I witnessed my share of excitement in my life - ON TV.

Thom McKee... A couple $1,000,000 wins in $1,000,000 Chance Of A Lifetime. John Carpenter. Kevin Olmstead. Ken Jennings!

But to witness history like this - live and in person? What a moment. What a feeling.

Trips to the Bob Barker Studio are special. Watching DSW's on TV are amazing. But THIS DSW, IN PERSON?! Just one of the most amazing things I've ever witnessed in my life.

And, believe me, I had to fight my emotions, not only at what a special moment it was, but to think that my hoarse, raspy, abused voice was one of the 334 screaming voices that the rest of America heard today. To think that I not only watched this unfold, but FELT it.

Just unbelievable that less than three months after getting caught up in a moment - where everything seems to go into slow-motion, and everything just seems overwhelming - to have it happen again.

I am so glad I made that taping. I am so glad I was awake for 15 hours waiting to enter the studio. Just amazing.

I've probably watched that two dozen times today (Thank you, Heels!), and I'm STILL shaking my head.

And, yes. I really did get Rich to sign my contestant card. He truly is a charming, classy person - not only taking the time to sign that autograph for me, but to spend a few moments chatting with a few fans, shaking hands and thanking us (individually) for being there.

Speaking of handshakes, someone got the Jeanette treatment. Yes, little ol' me walked up and shook hands with VickyAnn and her husband, congratulating them on their amazing day.

And, yes, I really did grab a handful of confetti that the person in the audience kept throwing (and, believe me, he threw PLENTY more after that DSW and during the closing theme).

What a truly priceless day. What a truly priceless moment.

Thank you to the staff and crew of TPIR for all the amazing shows - especially this one.

Thank you to Bob and Rich for all you've done.

And, of course, thank you to Chuck!

Koslen, congratulations on getting called on down during this historic day. A shame you couldn't make it up on stage, but you got a handshake from Bob!  :-D

Marc, John, Willy, ElCheapo and everyone else here who was also there for this taping: What a ride it was. I hope you all had as much fun as I did. We were a part of television history!

I am also thrilled to hear that everyone had a blast watching this today. It was a blast to sit in the chatroom, watching everyone's reactions. Thank you for allowing me to relive this show TWICE today, instead of just once!

How can you top this? Outside of a DSW in an MDS, or someone finally winning the million, I don't know.

This was, by far, the greatest episode I've watched in my 27 years of being a LFAT. Even if I just saw it on TV, I'd feel that way...

Trip to LA: $12.25
My share of the hotel room: $30
Witnessing television history in person: PRICEless

There's some things money can buy. For everything else, there's Dobkowitz!

Maybe we should make plans to do this again in five years?  :-D

This was one incredible show. I'm glad I remembered to put a fresh disc into the DVD-R this morning. I just watched it after midnight, then read the 10 pages of comments before posting this. (and now I'm watching it again on my computer as I type...God bless Windows Media Center!)

I loved the confetti at the opening of the show, but I noticed that it seemed a bit small, then Bob reveals it was someone in the audience throwing it.

I love the new doors. I'm a sucker for bright red/orange sunset type hues.

IUFB#1: A-huminahuminahumina!!

Lucky $even: For some reason I was taken aback that the Caddy was only in the $40k range, I was thinking it would be in the 60's. Summertime put a few cobwebs in my head. Once Michael picked a 5 for the second number and it was revealed to be a 2, I got that sinking feeling...

Three Strikes: Maria's near-perfect playing left my jaw on the floor, not to mention the full-count almost giving me a coronary.

Plinko: Easy SP set up. Kimala full cycling thru the amounts was pretty cool.

IUFB#4: See IUFB #1.

Pushover: Wow, 5-digit Pushy! Kewl.... with $19,460, $20,194 and $18,201 being the only logical choices, it was both simpler and tougher at the same time. I thought $20,194 looked good, too.

IUFB#5: Awww geez, we're also starting another season full of suicide bids. I do wonder if Elissa meant to say #3199 instead, though. Oh well, she would've been over regardless.

Double Prices: $18,994 was my pick, too.

Most Expensive: WOW! For 3 cars! It's like Triple Play without the extra work (and extra time). I thought the Malibu was the most expensive, since PT's and Jeeps run in the $16k range and I've seen Malibus run about $20k. Once the Malibu and PT Cruiser prices were revealed to be in the $16k range (and so close together), I figured Carolyn had it "In The Bag" (heh heh).

The 2nd Showcase Showdown took me by suprise, I didn't notice that all 6 games were played.

Showcase #1: I knew this would be awesome as soon as the music kicked in. The news ticker sound that was played as they opened and closed the showcase is the actual sounder used by New York City's Newsradio 1010 WINS to open their newscasts at :20 and :40 after the hour, with a full theme at the top of the hour. WINS is owned by CBS so I imagine it wasn't too hard for Roger to get permission to borrow it. My jaw dropped at hearing my favorite radio sounder used on TPiR! THEN they used the TPiR theme as a car cue, and down my jaw goes again! I bid #37,000 for this one.

And I only caught the September 4th theme of the newspapers on the 2nd viewing.

Showcase #2: And then they offered the Holy Viper...Aaaaalelujiah!!  I bid $50,000 here, and I figured Vickiann went way over with that $89,500 bid. I went "WTF?". Luckilly I found out later how ignorant I am on Vipers.

Showcase reveal: After Maria went over by about $2k, I groaned at the thought of a sure D.O.B. on THIS show of all shows. I put my head in my right hand and went "oh no, oh no...". Then Bob read out the price of Vickyann's showcase, and it took a lot of muster to keep from yelling out loud and waking the whole house up. My jaw still hurts from hitting the ground yet again!

This was such a fun show, capped off with that incredible ending.

Greatest. Show. EVER. Price. Number. One. Forget. GSN. T. P. I. R. Forever.

EDIT: I remember that after Micahel Larson finished having his way with Press Your Luck, the late Peter Tomarken asked him one question, which I'll put to Vickyann now: "How does it feel to own CBS?" LOL

Awesome...

Madonna, it was VERY nice to hear your story in full.  You know, I'm already thinkin' about making the pilgrimage to the Bob Barker Studio myself.  I might've been watching from my apartment back in Corpus Christi, but somehow, I felt as if I was there sittin' next to you and Starcade.

The Season 35 Premier really choked me up.  That DSW will go down as THE greatest "Price is Right" moment that I have ever seen.  This even tops that Texas-USC Rose Bowl game earlier this year!

I know it's been done already, but here's to THE best season in "Price is Right" history; here's to Marc, John, Robert, and the Mods for helping make this site the coolest place on the Net to visit; most importanly, here's to Bob Barker, Rich Fields, the "Barker's Beauties", the crew, and most importantly, here's to all of the Loyal Friends and True out there!

Here's to ANOTHER 35 years!!

Wow, great show.

I had a hunch once I saw the 89500 bid that is was DSW-quality. One thing I'm wondering...... did the display say "47517" at the end? Because it's obvious she broke the scoreboard.

*raises rum and coke* Here's to another 35 years!

I didn't post my 2 cents earlier so here goes...

Lucky 7: Painful start.  I'm not a big fan of this game anyway, and it hurt to see it start the season.   But just seeing the reveal...a Caddy being rolled out on the stage...that was beautiful!

3 Strikes:  I would have never expected this second.  She had extrememly good luck.  Almost drew a perfect game...but the suspense was definitely there after the two strikes were pulled!

Plinko!:  Not a big fan of this either, but kinda "required" with it being a major milestone anniversary.  We have somebody dropping for the cycle.

Pushover:  For a van.  It was just really weird that the first half (attempted) gave away a Cadillac and a Corvette, then we see the van.  Good play, even with two obvious prices (with the first not even "really" an option...down to that price).

Double Prices:  5th?? Good boat win, but obviously leading up to a HUGE sixth game.

--At this point in the show, I'm keeping track of the "5 things" that we would see in the show.  I've got the models and that wacky leadoff lineup.  I'm seriously thinking we're going to see either Triple Play or Golden Road last, just for the heck of it.  But instead, we get....--

Most Expensive (+!): The first playing of Most Expensive with CARS!  WOW!  And the MG/HS Hour Cue! (I don't call it the SuperBall cue...there is a slight edit in that cue that wasn't present in either this playing or the One Wrong Price playing).

Showcases: Awesome themes.  The main theme doesn't really fit as a car cue though, in my opinion.  That was neat.

I will always remember $89,500 and $237.  This day will live on in TPiR history.

And some speculation...did the Dob want Three Strikes first, but want a door entrance?

Better late than never. I just got done watching it, and I was floored by everything. Most Ex. and the DSW. Knowing that I couldn't watch it until today, it's very tempting to come into this thread and peek. Glad I didn't. Just Spectacular from beginning to end. Now that is the way to start the season!

Too bad Mike didn't win the Cadillac. I would have picked 1 first then fived the rest across the board. So, I would have won that one.

But I tanked on Most Expensive. I don't know what jeeps cost. lol

Maria pulling out the last number for the Corvette was the second most suspenseful moment on the show. With Vickyanne's Double Showcase win as the most suspense.

This is without a doubt the best show yet.

All I can say is : WHAT A SHOW!!

L7 : Painful loss on the 2nd number. But it's fun to see the full price reveal after the loss.

3S : When was the last time this was played anywhere other than first?!? Great suspensful win. Would have been painful if that last disc was a strike.

P! : Had to be there, I guess. Still, $11k is a nice chunk of change!

PO : Somehow, I had a feeling DOB WANTED this to be won. How many sub-$20k vans are there anyway these days.

DP : William was funny, but was right on the edge from falling into obnoxtiousness in my opinion (is that even a word).

ME : When Bob started explaining the rules of Most Expensive before the prizes were shown, my first thought was 3 trips. But deep down I kept thinkin' "Oh no, they didn't!". Well, they did! 3 cars !! I spotted Marc right behind the contestant mouthing the words "Oh my god!" after the reveal. If our beloved site admin is impressed, that's something.

(Oh, and I thought PT Cruiser was the most expensive ... I was WAAAAAYYYY off !!)

SCSD 2 : I think most of us here can relate to William about the sick days ... Great tribute to say the least.

SC : And a DSW to top it all off !! One of the best TPIR I've seen in recent years. Much better, IMO, than any MDS I've seen. And it was great to see the whole staff on stage. Although I tried to spot the Dob in the bunch, but I didn't see him. I definitely saw Fingers, though!

Oh, and a little note about the new doors. I like it, I really like it! And it's a major change for one reason. All the other door designs (except for MDS doors) all had this little 2nd border on it, that kinda shadows the actual door frame.

Basically, they found the way to make a big enough change on the set to bring something new, but at the same time, small enough to keep the classical vibe to the show!!!

Kudos to the whole staff of TPIR. And Kudos again!

GB, you're welcome, and I'm glad I get to finally share it. I was like a kid waiting for Christmas, counting the days until this aired...

Or, to quote someone we all know and love (uhh, probably not): "I have a tale to tell..."

That is definitely the feeling I wanted to give everyone. I mean, the cameras captured all those cars, and all those wins. But those cameras just couldn't capture the energy, the insanity and the love in that studio that day, which truly was incredible.

That DSW? I still can't quite find the words, and it's now been 19 days.

I keep thinking back to the first trip to the Bob Barker Studio on November 16, and how Starcade described it as winning the Super Bowl (finally seeing TPIR in person) but not winning the MVP (getting picked).

The thing is, how can you describe this one?! Three-peating? Or winning the Masters, both Opens and the PGA?! I mean, "winning the Super Bowl" just isn't strong enough to describe that one.

A friend of mine that I chat with on AIM who seems to believe in the whole chaos theory asked me "What if you hadn't gone? What if by not going you would've changed the outcome and the DSW didn't happen?" I said to him "I don't know about THAT. But I know I would've hated myself had I not been here. I had planned MONTHS in advance to do this (we were talking as far back as February of doing this, once we heard the original June tape date), and if I turned on my TV today to watch this, I would've spent the rest of my life thinking 'And you planned on being there. You idiot. You $@*%ing idiot! Look what you missed out on?!'"

As far as going to a taping yourself? Do it! I urge everyone here who has yet to make the pilgrimage to Mecca to just do it!

wschmrdr, as far as the display at the end? It just kept flashing 239. Since they couldn't fit 147517, they didn't even try - they just kept flashing the difference for several minutes.

Once the cameraman vacated that camera (I couldn't tell if it was Marty or not, as I was too busy looking at the monitor, then going nuts), I did look over. In fact, I even glanced over at the podiums, shaking my head, after they stopped tape, and it was STILL flashing "239".

Though, I love what was said in the chat - whether they could've been programmed to say "A LOT" or "TILT"

"$89,739", "239" and "$147,517" are going to go down in a personal place of history for me, just like "$63,302" (the ARP of Jeanette's Showcase, at the first taping I attended). And, of course, 8/31/2006 will go down with 11/16/***5, 10/21/1999 (Maddy meets Sherrie Austin)...

And, of course, 6/3/2006 (Yes, Virginia, there really is a Madonna Louise Ciccone!).

Wow.

Here's to 35 PRICEless years, and here's to 35 more!

In absolute agreement, Marc.

This is going to come as a shock to a lot of people (yes, I am a conspiracy theorist and believe much of what is put on television in "competitive" genres is rigged), but there's no way that Bob would involve himself in something like this under any damnated circumstances.

Wow, this rocked! :-D My favorite season premiere since season 4 (much because of it's long lasting change).

And I still have not gotten over how sweet the new doors are.  :-D

Lucky 7: I'm surprised the Dob did this.  I'm also surprised how easy the price actually was, in contrast to many recent prices.  We almost got a perfect show.  :-(

3 Strikes: Yikes, wher'd that come from?! And the game was played fabulously!  :-D

Plinko: This is the only part of the show that didn't surprise me.  Still, the $10K was hit.

Push Over: Ez az usual.

Double Prices: Not my favorite game, but played 5th for a boat is cool.  :-)

Most Expensive: I didn't like Bob talking about the game first, but I understand why.  And I don't get why playing for 3 cars has never been done before.

Showcases (NOT the reveal): Hmmm.  The main theme for the Saturn (?!?) was neat.  A little odd, but cool.

Showcase Reveal: If my mom hadn't hinted at what would happen, I would've said "holy (insert word here)!!!!!!!"  Now that is how you start a season!!  :-D  :-D  But I'm actually more surprised about the prize switch report.  I was actually anticipating a Viper.   :-D

They should've seriously used the MDS showcase podiums.  :D

Grade: 35/10.  How can we put a pricetag on this?  :-D  :-D

Hey gang.  In retrospect, I do have one question for the group here about the premiere.  After the DSW, is there any particular reason why the winner was shepherded to the Saturn, rather than the Viper?  I know they wanted to get the cake in the shot and have a big group hug at the end, but the crew certainly knew that the Viper was won.  Or is it that the Viper was behind door 1, which would have been a bit awkward?  Thoughts?

I definitely think we got the gathering in front of the Sky because a shot of door #2 was the easiest of the three... That's my guess, at least.

I definitely would've prefered to have seen everyone gather in front of the Viper, though.

Starcade: "TILT" would've been hilarious... Hopefully The Dob is reading this and thinks about doing that should this ever happen again!

What a fascinating show!  All I can say, STILL!  :-o

Until I get bored with this form of recap, I will be posting a cumulative scoreboard of 20 various occurrences in the shows to come.

RED-colored panels indicate IUFB-related categories, BLUE-colored panels indicate PG-related categories, YELLOW-colored panels indicate SCSD-related categories, and GREEN-colored panels indicate SC-related categories.

If you do not see an obscure category that I may have missed, let me know, and I'll consider letting that be a part of the scoreboard.

Sorry I haven't gotten around to giving my comments for this particular show. I've been really busy with college. Luckily I did remember to pop in a tape because this was a memorable show.

I did want to say one last thing before I get to my comments for the show. I wanted to say thank you to Joe and all of the other boys here at G-R.net for keeping us on top of Price updates and news. Also thanks Joe for posting all of the recaps. I don't get to watch the show a lot when school is in session and it's nice to see what's games got played and how much was won for the day.

Now on to my comments:

Lucky 7- I had a hunch this game would be lost. Playing this game for an expensive car is not always nice. Of course I found it funny that the last 4 numbers were 2,3,4, & 5. The Dob must've thought that would've been an easier win.

3 Strikes- Maria was an awesome player. She knew the 0 rule. She knew corvettes on Price are usually $50,000+. I think she pays attention to the prices of corvettes that have been offered on Price.

Plinko- I figured this game would get played. I wish they would've played Punch-A-Bunch. It was nice she won $11,000+ though. They must've had the microphone turned up really loud because you could hear Kimala hitting the plinko chips against the board when she was screaming.

Push Over- Nice win. More on Vickyanne below

Double Prices- Shows how well some people get their info right. Someone that gave this website a link to pictures of the celebration was wrong. They said Double Prices was played for a car, when it indeed wasn't. It was still nice to see it won and played for an $18,000+ boat.

Most Expensive- This was definetely the Most Expensive playing of Most Expensive. And apparently Roger looks at this site and takes our comments to heart. I was wondering how things would turn out if this game was played for three cars. Luckily I taped it.

Showcases- I liked the headlines showcase. I was surprised when they used the shows theme for the car music cue. Has that ever been done before? The "Prizes offered in the first season" showcase was excellent too. I figured The Dob would do something big in the end of it.

The credits- this was one of the most enjoyable parts of the show to me. I loved it when the balloons came down on Vickyanne and the models. I was wondering when the day would come that they would do that. It was also great to see some of the staff come out. Although for some reason they didn't immediately greet our big winner. And I loved it when Bob blessed the staffers at the very end. I think someone fired Eskander during the credits because the camera shots went smooth for the most part. And I know Eskander would never have done the shots that were taken.

Best contestant- You guessed it Vickyanne. She was in good spirits. She walked in there with nothing and came out with $147,000+ in cash and prizes. And like Maria, she must've been a loyal Price watcher. Otherewise she wouldn't have bid so extremely high on the Viper showcase.

I thought when Season 34 debuted that this year would have a hard time duplicating that. It ended up smothering 34 into the ground. Congratulations Price staffers on 35 wonderful years. And here's to 35 more wonderful years!

The Viper was actually behind door 3. However, due to the way the doors are laid out on the stage, the balloons could only be set up to fall in front of doors 1 and 2. The plan was to drop the first batch of balloons as everybody passed in front of door 1 to walk to the cake (they were dropped early, as you can see them already on the floor). The second set would be dropped as the winner happily stood in front of their new car, at door 2 (which you saw happen).

If the Viper had been won instead of the Sky, they would have moved the Viper to door 2 during the break so that the balloon-dropping could go as planned. Since both cars were won, it wasn't worth the time it would take to switch the Viper to door 2 and the Sky to door 3, so they left everything where it was.

And the ironic thing is that Vickyann Chrobak-Sadowski didn't have to do as much work preparing for "Price" as Michael Larson did preparing for "Press." Then again Chrobak-Sadowski didn't know she was going to be a contestant until Rich Fields called her to "Come on Down!" No one knows until that happens.

Anyway, what Larson did was that he recorded "Press" on videotape, watched the tapes repeatedly, and discovered that the flashing lights on the Big Board WERE NOT RANDOM as one might think, but FIVE SEQUENCIAL ORDERS which were run over and over again. Having memorized these patterns, Larson went to L.A., tried out for "Press," got on the show, and... in the words of Peter Tomarken, "...made monkeys out of me, my colleagues, and a major television network."

If Michael Larson, Bill Carruthers, Bill Mitchell, Peter Tomarken and Rod Roddy were all alive today, I'm sure they'd be proud of Vickyann Chrobak-Sadowski.

I know I am.

Let me sum up that episode in three words:

OH. ME. GEE.

I never thought there would be cars, cash and boats sprinkled liberally around the place...but to see someone win over $147,000? Only on the premiere.

And I had to work. Bleah.

Wow, I just got around to watching this just now (I have been away for the last 3 days).  I have been avoiding looking at the threads on this site about the show because I wanted it to be a surprise for me (although I did know about the 3 Strikes win).

Wow, with all the cars offered in the show, it looked like a MDS.  Amazing!

Lucky $even: Wow, something other than Golden Road/Triple Play to start the season.  Nice to see something new.  Tough loss here.  I even heard members in the audience shout out the correct numbers in the car.  Oh well.  If it wouldn't have been lost, we would've had a perfect show.  It was strange for them to actually reveal the full price.  Haven't seen that for as long as I can remember.

3 Strikes: Yay!  My favorite game is on the season opener!  I kind of wanted it to see played for a 6-digit car.  Maybe if it would've been played first, it would have offered one.  But fun nevertheless!  I knew she had one, but I didn't know she guessed all the numbers perfectly!

Plinko!: I was expecting this to be a car game, but oh well.  Nice to see someone hit the $10,000 slot.  What a great contestant, too!  Too bad she couldn't have won more, seeing as she got all 5 chips.

Pushover: Nice to see a win here too.  Luckily the audience knew there prices today!  Helped her win this game.

Double Prices: Strange to see this not played 4th.  I thought it would be another car game.  Wow, that was a really expensive boat!

Most Expensive: I knew this game was going to be played for 3 cars.  Sure enough, it was.  Very awesome win!

SCSD #2: What a way to start off the year by winning $1000 on the wheel.

Showcases: WOW!  A Viper in the showcase!  I would have never guessed it!  Neat showcase themes.  At first, I thought Vickyann had gone over.  Then when I saw that Maria had gone over, I was going "Uh-oh, maybe there's going to be a double overbid."  Then I heard Bob say the actual retail price and I was cheering like crazy.  FIRST PERSON TO WIN MORE THAN $100,000 ON THE DAYTIME SHOW!!!  I really wanted to see her showcase podium, since she had won more than $100,000 worth of stuff.

Overall, a fantastic start to the 35th year, and a new daytime record!  My Grade: A+

No, we wouldn't.  Plinko was not won.

I was out of town for a few days, but I still watched the premiere from my hotel room in Lake Tahoe, and first of all that has to be one of the best finishes in TPIR history. I thought Maria had won and Vickyann overbid, and when it turned out Maria overbid I thought we were headed for a double overbid. I was never so glad to be wrong.

I'd been hoping for a DSW when both showcases were big, and this was simply a classic.

The reveal for ME with 3 cars and playing the MG/HS theme was reminiscent of Superball in a way. Forgive me if I wax nostalgic, but I could just picture Janice, Dian, and Holly doing the same thing. I may be in the minority on this point, but the numerous contestant shoutouts got on my nerves. It's just gotten to be overkill.

In any event what a sensational way to start this historic season.

I think the scoreboard turns off in that case, with no flashing total.

Well, I think that the scoreboard should've said something on the lines of...

TILT!

I think that although Vickyann's scoreboard was off camera at that moment, it was still flashing 237. I remember "Price's" 25th Anniversary Prime Time Special when Angela Berg won a total of $121,608 as a result of winning the showcase round at the end of the show. She had bid $50,000 on a $73,970 showcase. The overall score of $121,608 flashed at the bottom of the screen while Angela's bidding difference of $23,970 was still flashing on her scoreboard. Of course, they used the scoreboards that are used on the Daytime shows which have five place value positions, and that this was long before the $1,000,000 Spectaculars which use scoreboards with six positions. Shouldn't they have them with seven positions in the event that there should be $1,000,000 winner in either Showcase Showdown? I think they should.

Yes!!!

What a show!!!!  What a dream!!!  Although, I would have to respectfully disagree with Madonna about the people in the studio as "idiots."  They showed their support and love in numbers that day.  The love and kindness demonstrated to this show, this icon, this wonderful landscape of television history will be remembered forever!  Thank you all!

Joe

I think you're taking this rather out of context...Madonna was saying it jokingly and was including herself among the "idiots."

MrPlinko,

I use the term "idiots" affectionately, much like Gene Rayburn and his "dingbats" on Match Game.

I started using the term "idiots" during my second taping, when we had the T.S. group (yelling the name of everyone walking by and cheering). The idea came to mind from the 2004 Red Sox calling themselves "The Idiots".

And, as Steve pointed out, I was one of those "idiots". I was in the studio for that unbelievable and historic season premiere.

And, yes, the love and support we showed was incredible. I've never been to a taping like that in my life, and may never experience one quite like that again. These people came to see history, and show their love to Bob and TPIR that day.

As I said, the only thing I ever saw and FELT that compared to the thunder and love that greeted Bob that way when he walked through door #2 was the thunder and love that greeted The Material Girl herself on June 3 at Staples Center...

The only difference is, that was 18,000 people. Bob was greeted by only 334. Though, I'm not sure if there was much of a difference in the intensity and energy that greeted those two icons.

August 31, 2006 is a day I'll never forget. It was a truly incredible and unforgettable day - even before Vickyann's DSW.

And, believe me, while I affectionately refer to us as "idiots", we were anything but, nor do I question the intelligence of the audience that day.

As far as the questions about the display on Vickyann's Showcase podium: It kept flashing 239. It flashed 239 from the moment that Bob revealed the ARP until the point they shut it off. I know this because after they stopped the tape (and just before Bob walked back up to thank us for being there and to ask for us to give a round of applause to Rich), I looked over at it and it was STILL flashing 239.

I don't know if they would've put the last five digits of Vickyann's total up had it not been a DSW, but in this case, they just stuck with the difference...

Which in this case was absolutely fitting.

Wow.  This thread is 12 pages long.  I've never seen that occur in a recap thread before.  Was there something special about this particular show? :-P

What a show!!!  What a fan-didily-iddily-oogily-tastic show.  Surprises at almost every turn.  My jaw dropped at the sight of the DSW on a showcase that contained a Viper no less.  What a way to end a season premiere episode.  For what it's worth, I bid $90,000 on that showcase.

Great Show!

Plinko: It was good seeing the $10K slot hit. It was a good way to start the season.

Three Strikes: It was a very suspenseful playing.  It was good seeing the contestant finally pulling it out and winning after  close to losing the game.

Push Over: Very obvious price there. It was a easy playing.

DSW: It was good seeing a DSW on the first playing of the season. Good way to start the season.

Grade: 10

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHH HHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I wish I hadn't forgotten to tape this one! This has got to be the best season premiere ever and I missed it!

Still, it's truly amazing that we had a double showcase win to start off the Season with, something that probably hasn't happened before. If possible, could someone upload this episode (or at least the Double Showcase win) onto YouTube for viewing?

What a wonderful way to start the show:

Lucky 7: Darn it if Michael had won the Cadillac CTS this would have been the ultimate perfect show.

3 Strikes: I was defiently nervous for Maria when it was down to 1 number and 1 strike because she knew the price of the Corvette and deserved to win it to.

Plinko: It was very exciting to see Kimala win $11,600 on Plinko.

Pushover: Very easy to win I knew Vickyann would win.

Double Prices: William was very excited and smart to he deserved the boat.

Most Expensive: WOW! For 3 Cars I never it was possible for that happen in this game. I was very nervous for her since I wasn't quite sure which car was the most expensive myself either. But atleast Carolyn got all 3 Cars

Showcase: Big Congratulations to Vickyann who wins both showcases and who breaks the daytime record on The Price is Right.

What part of "Plinko was not won" did you not understand?
