Title: Should Temptation have the background shopping music again?
Post by: Schfifty on March 20, 2017, 02:18:38 PM
I've been wondering about this lately - should Temptation go back to its tradition of using background music throughout the game from the prop reveal until the end of the prizes?

After recently watching a few episodes from Drew's first season, I actually kind of miss hearing the little music playing throughout that portion. It's one of the things the game is known for, and I don't see why it could really detract from anything. It sort of makes you feel like you're in a mall shopping for items, going from one store to the next, when the music plays throughout (plus, if it ever did come back, they could still use modern cues to stick with the times).

Personally, it would be nice for the background music to play again, as it's a tradition the game hasn't had for several years now. Anybody else think it could return, or not?

I absolutely agree with that! To have dead silence in between the presentation of the prizes is just jarring.

Yes, they should bring back the background shopping music in Temptation, Plinko, shell game, bonus game, and punch-a-bunch.

^ Not the same thing. In Temptation, you know the prices of the small prizes (or the value of the "cash aquarium") already, and maybe you're constantly thinking about the price of the car.

In the other games, you just think about the SP prices briefly before a luck-based trial begins.

What difference does that possibly make?
The prize music used to play during the prize plug and would then continue until the contestant made the decision about the price -- whether to select one digit or the other for the price of the car or to select whether the price shown is true or false, higher or lower, or which digit was correct.

In other words, the music used to continue until a decision was made, not just until the description was over. It used to be a universal style of how the music was played for every game, not just Temptation.

Of course, the last time I watched a snippet of the show, the prize music was lousy, mostly indescript rhythm beds; what made it sound good years ago was the better music.

I'm not a regular viewer of Drew's Price by no means, but I just happen to have it on today, Tuesday, April 4.  and they are playing music, as the smaller prizes are being described in Temptation.  I didn't realize that they stopped playing the different cues for awhile.  I assume that's what we're talking about?

They've always played music AS the prizes are being described. There was a time they would let the music continue playing after the description was over, while the model held up the price tag, and until the contestant's selection appeared on the board. The next prize's music would then begin playing and would continue all the way until the next digit lit up on the board, and so on.

I absolutely agree. What made Temptation great was its "tempting" music. That 1983 piano cue that started off the game until about 2010-11 or so was, IMO, as synonymous to the game as the Family Feud cue is to Grand Game.

While I do miss the music beginning at the Temptation reveal and not ending until the final number choice, I'd venture a guess that not doing it that way makes it easier to edit the segment in post.
