Title: Check Game being considered for retirement?
Post by: The_Great_Butler on October 29, 2007, 10:45:32 PM
Yeah, yeah, I know, I'm probably just shooting my mouth off. But still... Check Game was played fairly often last year,  and it hasn't been played once under Drew's custody. That, coupled with the fact that it was always hard for the contestants to understand AND the fact there's a new host, makes me a bit nervous for its survival.

I guess all I'm asking for is some verification that Check Game is still alive and well...

Based on what I know, Check Game is still alive and well, and has not been retired.  However, we won't be seeing it for a little while...

Verified, without question.

Many of the games are not being played at the moment; for these first several weeks, the 34 games we have seen so far  for plus a 35th that hasn't been aired yet are going to be it for a while. For his first few weeks, Drew did multiple tapings using the same 7 pricing games, these tapings are being aired in a different order so that gamnes aren't repeating within a week. More games will be added as Drew learns them--Steve mentioned in another thread that Drew is currently up to 43 games, but you won't be seeing the latest eight for another several weeks.

You'd think that, wouldn't you?  But no.  Thanks to the goofy scheduling, we're actually going to see three of those shows by the end of next week.

Oh...well, shows how much I know. Looking forward to seeing a few more games in the mix, at any rate.

with Drew having to learn all the pricing games, you'll see the same ones for quite some time. i predict that, and the tapings to be back to normal early next year. ;)

drew hs said in several interviews that he is learning abou 7 games a week (when taping).  its probably also safe to assume that some of the least played games (not all of course) might be saved for last.

Or not.

Well, PC was an easy one that should have been one of his first IMHO

More Or Less seems like a no brainer, so maybe he'll learn it? Or did they kick it to the curb?

1.  PC (it took me a while to even figure out what PC was) is hardly an easy game to explain.  In fact, I think it might have some of the most convoluted rules on the show.
2.  Why did you find it necessary to bump this thread up, anyway?

There's only one game that might get retired this year, and More or Less isn't it.

C'mon Steve... don't just leave it at that.  Elaborate, please.

Well, ClockGameJohn has alluded to Barker's Marker$ either getting retired or being renamed in another thread.

Yes, I know CGJ said that in another thread.  And, based on his careful selection of words, it appeared Barker's Markers (the game) would be staying but the title would not.

I wouldn't even feel right telling you that much if John hadn't already said it.

I do wonder why they'd bother to rename Markers but not Bargain Bar. Maybe they still have the Make Your Mark sign from TNPIR'94 sitting around and want to use it or something.

I was once thinking about what would happen to Barker's Markers post-Bob. I drew (No pun intended) a new board with a new name in MS paint. The game was renamed "3 out of 4." The board functioned similar to Bonus Game, with lighted check marks next to the prices. It fit on the turntable, which I've read is desirable for the crew.

Well, I don't want to see Check Game retired; it's always funny to see contestant's who "think" they know how to play the game botch it.  As far as "Barker's Markers" goes, I figured it would simply be changed to "Make Your Mark", like in TNPIR '94

I gotta think Check is gonna stay...especially now since the running joke is that "no one knew how to play the game with Bob...but EVERYONE knows how to play it with ME!"

I would think the game that is "possible" for the chopping block is a game that runs long, since the show is strapped for time.  The only game I could think of is Spelling Bee.  But then there's Markers...

I don't think "Make Your Mark" is a good name. It can easily be confused with Make Your Move. We've already got the mishmashing of One Right Price and One Wrong Price.

I'd say that this has now been confirmed to not be the case!
