The TALK Is Right / Re: Ten Chances questions
« Last post by GameShowKid on April 13, 2024, 03:35:40 PM »
As I've typed many times, Ten Chances is one of my favorite games.

That being said, and I'm not advocating for any change at this time, but any thoughts on making it an "end in zero or five" rule? Part of me would find it quite interesting to see this implemented, and maybe as a surprise to both the host and the contestant. And think of the "twists" that could follow.

For example: First prize. Digit choices: 7, 2, 5 (Surprise Drew! :-D).  Actual retail price: $25.
Second prize. Digit choices: 7, 8, 3, 0. Actual retail price: $870. (It would not start with '3' these days)
The auto. Digit choices: 2, 3, 1, 4, 0. Actual retail price: $24,130.

Or, and being more specific,
First prize. A mop. Digit choices: 5, 2, 0. Actual retail price: $25.
Second prize. A 65 inch TV. Digit choices: 9, 8, 5, 0. Actual retail price: $895. (It likely wouldn't start with '5').
The auto. Digit choices: 2, 7, 8, 6, 0. Actual retail price: $28,670.

Or, how about have both a 5 and a 0 as choices for the auto?
Example: A Kia Forte. Digit choices: 2, 7, 1, 5, 0. Actual retail price: $21,705. ($25K or $27K very unlikely)
Or
A Kia Forte (with different options). Digit choices: 2, 3, 1, 5, 0. Actual retail price: $23,015. ($25K unlikely, but tougher perhaps)

Of course, there's always the luck factor involved.

Comments? Yes I know, "If it ain't broke..."  :-)

The show is free to acknowledge it however they see fit. The "Zero" board game used as a small prize was an excellent tongue-in-cheek reference to it. Drew himself has blatantly acknowledged it in other appearances and interviews, but I'm sure he isn't going to (nor would the production staff let him) refer to it on-air.

Price is Right Recaps! / Re: TPiR Recap - 4/12/2024

I still miss both the classic spinning turntable shot of Bonus Game and its incandescent display. Nevertheless, I did get excited after it was perfectly played. :-) Well done.

I love line ups that contain many of the earliest pricing games, like ones that debuted prior to season 4.

Seeing Temptation, Lucky Seven, Bonus Game and One Right Price all in the lineup was awesome to me today, the proverbial "classic classics" of the Pricing Game family.

I actually had a vacation day from work and was able to watch this episode and it was quite enjoyable!

My favorite moment involved Manuela, as she is my favorite on the show.

And while the show already aired, I don't wish to "spoil" anything in case anybody reading this has not watched it yet but eventually plans on doing so.

I loved that "I have ZERO chance of losing."  Awesome!

And mercy doesn't almost always seem like everybody in the entire arena knows about the ending in 0 trick except the player doing the game???

I know Scapino has done a Five Fun Facts video about more than 60 pricing games at this point, and he pulls no punches in hating on Ten Chances.  I think it's a fine game, and obviously as it's been on the show since 1975, so too does the staffers and the fans of the show too.

Out In Left Field / Re: Masters 2024 Golf
« Last post by SeaBreeze341 on April 13, 2024, 11:56:35 AM »
They've been doing that for the past number of years between the late night local news and the Late Show.  While I have it to view, it's not something I'd make time to watch live.  ESPN & Sportscenter have more than enough coverage, as does the Golf Channel, so really not a big need for that late night 15-minute special.

As for the action, Max Homa had the best second day combined with the overall outcome after 36 holes.  It's a 3-way tie with him, Scottie, and Bryson (-6).  Morikawa is 3 shots back, and the Cams are both 5 shots back.

To be fair Tiger has a chance, and Rahm, well, at least made the weekend.  Rory will be playing this weekend as well.  Unless proven otherwise, however, Jack's record at Augusta is safe, Jon will be putting the green jacket on someone else, and the number of career grand slam winners will remain the same.

The only big name that missed is Spieth.  Though Jordan played okay, the issue of blowing everything in one single hole was present.

Biggest headline is a new record.  24 straight made cuts at the Masters for the 5-time Masters champion.  That, I believe is a records in major events outright.  No more than 40 people have even played in over 2 dozen major events in their lifetime.  Woods' 100th round at the Masters is scheduled for Sunday, April 14, 2024.

No matter where Tiger Woods finishes, there will be extensive coverage on him.  Not sure about Jon Rahm as the reigning champion, but he is further back to the leaders compared to the 15-time major champion.  So many people have a shot, but not a decent chance since the weather is actually decent.  Finally, I can't see both Scottie & Bryson falling.  If they both exit, them that's golf.  However, as mentioned, Smith and Young are still within reach; I can see both Cameron players finishing strong this weekend

Out In Left Field / Re: 2024 MLB Season
« Last post by Ccook on April 13, 2024, 11:54:19 AM »
Spencer Strider had surgery on his ACL yesterday, fitted with an internal brace as opposed to Tommy John surgery. He's out for the season and probably will be back midseason next year. Meantime to fill the gap they called up Allan Winans from triple-A. He got rocked by the Mets earlier this week so they demoted him and called up Darius Vines.
