Didn't Bob want Porsches off of TPIR because of something related to animal rights? I sure hope they've changed whatever they did to make Bob ban them, because that would be really low if the staff brought Porsches back despite that.

There's an ongoing thread about that (see Foreign Cars in the main forum). It apparently had nothing to do with animal rights and nothing to do with the foreign car ban, but I can't get the story out of anybody! (edit: army is probably right - there's probably not some backstory here...)

Otherwise, this was a decent MDS... nothing too spectacular. I thought Punch-A-Bunch as the million dollar game was kind of stupid - they should really be based on pricing skill (like One Away and Switcheroo), and not luck...

I'm not 100% sure, but I think the reason is simply that Porsches aren't American.

Yay for Punch a Bunch finally coming back to prime time!  With a pretty unexpected prize increase, too!  Not sure how I feel about the $50,000 top prize.  On one hand, it seems unnecessarily high, but on the other hand, Plinko has a $100,000 top prize.  Guess it's nice to see something else that can compete with Plinko!

Yay for the Punch a Bunch frequency chart close-up!  I do wonder which four amounts had second chances, though.  Could a $5000 slip have actually had a second chance?

Still speaking on Punch a Bunch, I hope the new hole coverings aren't brought over to daytime:  the Pricedown dollar sign paper was hardly visible on camera.  The old bold generic dollar signs are a lot more vibrant on TV.

And yet still speaking of Punch a Bunch, on one hand, no one's ever going to give up $25,000 if they get a $25,000 slip.  On the other hand, that's pretty much the same situation with the $5000 slips in daytime, so it's not really a problem anyway.

And because four paragraphs isn't enough, I do wonder whether or not the $50,000 slip was hiding in a corner.  I mean, I know the show has no reason not to try to give the $1 million away, but who the heck knows the exact stipulations for the insurance policy?  I can kinda' see them wanting more money if they were going to put it in a corner.

And because I'm writing a novel about Punch a Bunch, even though it was just a dumb, completely random, corner-analysis notwithstanding, this was one of the better $1 million pricing game executions.  Mostly because winning it was both actually possible, unlike with Range Game, Plinko, and Safe Crackers, and didn't require risking anything, unlike with Half Off and Safe Crackers.

And yay!  Two SPs again!  So even if the "final" show next week is SP-less, we're still coming out ahead, with at least five SPs played in four shows!

Speaking of "other SP" Cliff Hangers, when did the space bag suddenly jump up in price?  I actually thought that was the first SP in years to be under $10 in Pathfinder a couple weeks ago.

Tonight's Grocery Game basically proved that Roger can make Grocery Game difficult without resorting to nothing but $5.00+ products.  Two Midol seemed like a very good way to start.  No normal person would've guessed they were even close to only 99¢, and before someone complains that they knew, please remember we're not normal.  Crystal actually played the game well, starting with a small amount of a medicinal product, which is usually a great starting move.  Just not with that el cheapo Midol.  Built her total up pretty nicely, but just didn't have any elbow room to win in the end.  Always a shame when someone loses like that.  Even if, technically, she did have a sub-$1.00 product she could've very theoretically bailed herself out of the situation with.

Thank God Lacretia ignored the bizarre shouts of "7" from the audience in Squeeze Play.  Seriously... 7?!  I'm disappointed in you, audience.  So meant to be won.  Happy Lacretia ignored that abysmal advice.

And... what the heck was Robert doing with his bidding in the showcase?  Starting with $28,000, gradually getting higher due to the audience pressure, and decides on $48,000.  Then, from seemingly outta' nowhere, bids $66,000!  Pretty drastic increase from $28,000.  I'm also curious why he decided to raise his $48,000 bid, which he seemed like he'd settle on, by so much.

Maybe, but on the other hand, aside from One Away, this was actually the most likely for the $1 million to actually be won!  Just 1 in 50, which is better than almost everything else.

Tonight's show was kind of mediocre. The budget was obviously a lot more over the top than it has been in the past shows.

Golden Road- I figured it was either the 4 or 9 and a slight chance of it being a 5. At least he got the guitars and the workout center. Did anyone else notice the dots were lined so they went from prize to prize and there weren't as many dots as usual?

Punch-a-Bunch- YAY we got a prize increase! I was hoping this would be a million dollar pricing game. There idea was okay, but again it seemed unlikey she would've gotten the $50,000 on her first punch. What I would've done instead was to put a $1,000,000 slip in.

Cliffhangers- Yay a win!

Lucky 7- Wow a Porsche! I was actually getting ready to ask in the other thread I made if Porsche's still existed. There's my answer. Too bad he didn't win, but at least that 2 and 8 helped put him out of his misery seeing that the price was a Dob-Stopper. ($52,849)

Grocery Game- You know that's funny that they used the same kind of prize package tonight that they did on an Armed Forces Special 6 years ago. She played the game well though.

Squeeze Play- Kinda tough but I too felt it was the 0 that needed to go.

Showcases- Oh here's where the rest of the Golden Road dots went.  And I felt the bids were actually pretty good bids. I know it's weird but even if a contestant misses by $20,000+ I see it as a good bid because I think it's harder to price the items on an MDS since they aren't often used on the daytime show. And I was almost convinced we had a millionaire seeing those bids. Oh well.

IUFB 1: Delescia.....$3 as the first bidder?!! :headbang:

Golden Road: The first prize was a walk in the park, the other two were really hard in my honest opinion.....although I guessed right on the gym and the motorhome on lucky guesses.  My uncle watched this with me and guessed 9 for the motorhome just like Robert.

Punch a Bunch: I'm glad it's in primetime!!!  Whoa---$50,000?!  And this is the million dollar game?  I have to admit I really liked how this was executed.  The first punch to get $50,000 to win the million----pretty hard but it is doable.
I have to admit, I feared the worst when Delescia decided to "Pull a Bryan."

Cliffhangers: I have to admit, Aja played this well----I feared the worst when she said $17 dollars for the car care (I thought $30).  It was all smooth sailing from there.

Lucky Seven: For a PORSCHE?!!!  The last time a Porsche was played was back in the early 1990s for Three Strikes and it was won.  When I heard the "paint sealant" option...I had a hunch this was not going to be pretty.
Anyways.......I felt bad for Jimmy---I really wanted him to win the Porsche.  I don't think Roger wanted that car won---the price was nasty.  Kudos to Drew for showing the rest of the price.

Grocery Game: $0.99 Midol?!!!!!  Good night!!!!  I thought this setup was tricky.

Squeeze Play: I thought alike like Lacretia....taking out the zero.  I also saw members from the audience holding up 7 fingers or saying 7.  Lacretia's reaction to winning.....bittersweet.

Showcases: I thought Robert had his bid in the bag because I thought alike like him....oh well.  Lacretia definitely cleaned house tonight!  (my bid was 100000---I went over)

Overall a decent MDS.

Terrific idea to increase Punches top prize. Now let's see it in daytime. I never have figured out why it's stayed at 10K even though much easier to win cash games (*cough* Grand Game *cough*) are also 10. Doesn't make much sense. It's much more difficult to get the top prize on Punchy, so I say, increase the top prize to 20K. Then bump everything else one (i.e. 5K to 10, 1K to 5, etc).

I really have to say that $1,000,000 Punch-A-Bunch really brightened my day!  It wasn't as stupid as Range Game, 1/2 Off, or Safe Crackers and it wasn't a repeat!

Did anyone notice in Golden Road that drew accidentally made a slight reveal of what the number was hiding behind the marker for the second prize?  it was only for a split second, but it was enough to see that, yes indeed, a 2 was the right choice.

Screengrab HERE (http://www.angelfire.com/trek/Startrekccg/MDSpics.html).

Anyway,  good MDS but I wasn't expecting much (considering the rerun lineup that has already been published).

Yay Punch-a-Bunch!  (again).

All I can say about this particular show is...wow!

I immediately recognized the Fleetwood Icon motorhome offered in Golden Road because I was looking at Fleetwood motorhomes on their site; the base price for one of them was $93,044.  I guess they loaded the thing up pretty good.  They did a heckuva job with Punchy in my view, and it made for a pretty nifty Million Dollar PG, but I thought I heard Drew say that you had to get all four punches AND get the $50,000 placard on the first punch in order to win the million.

As for Lucky Seven, I've seen lots of crazy things happen on TPIR, but now...I have officially seen it all.  I can be at peace knowing that I got to witness the first Porsche offered on TPIR (daytime or primetime) since Toni's (somewhat) famous playing of Three Strikes back in 1992--back then, I was only TEN!  My word, how time has flown.  Oh yeah, this proves without a shadow of a doubt that foreign cars are here to stay, and I'm pretty darn proud to see them again.  It makes for a better variety of cars to give away instead of just Fords or Chevys.  :-D

Grocery Game with LOSING HORNS!?!  That hasn't happened in quite a long time!

OVERALL SHOW GRADE:  Stuff of Legends (This is the 2nd show I've commented on that has earned this prestigious rating)

I managed to watch this special in HD, and I have to say it looks awesome.  The picture quality is top-notch; the only pitfall is that it made some props, notably Cliff Hangers, look pretty bag.  I could see some yellow splotches of paint on the mountain and I heard one could see one of the rocks on the border missing.

Wow, 6-digit Golden Road!  Unfortunately, one of the cameramen spoiled what was coming because I could see the red prize cove as Drew was walking to the handoff.

Speaking of Golden Road, I really wonder why they stuck the rainbow behind the motorhome when it took up a lot of space in door #2.

Finally, we see primetime Punch A Bunch!  I wonder why they increased the payoff to $50,000. Also, it was the million dollar game; this one is just blind luck, at least it has better chances of winning the million than Plinko. I first thought Drew said all four punches had to be won in order to go for the million.  Also, I am surprised that we see Second Chances used in primetime Punch A Bunch for the first time since 1986, shame that the only one we saw netted Delishia a mere $600.

I think they should bring out the color of the pricedown dollar signs on the Punchboard, they looked barely noticable from far away.

I personally thought Roger was trying to force a loss in Cliff Hangers, the first SP was lower in price than usual, but thankfully the conestant managed to win after guessing well on the second and third SPs.

We see an uncooperative prize for the first time in a while, the models kept waving their hands across the sensor and it wouldn't open until after a few tries.  I am also surprised that that small thing cost almost $5000.  That's just as overpriced as that marshmallow sofa we see in the daytime.

Wow, possibly the first Porsche on the show in 16 years!

Roger sure did not want the car won in Lucky $even, the guess for the second number really killed Jimmy's chances of winning.

Did the salsa go up in price?  It really stinks that Crystal came so close to winning and then went over with her last purchase.  I think that small package of Midol fooled her.

Finally we see 5-digit Squeeze Play in primetime, after a slew of the 4-digit version!

Geez, two hybrid SUVs in the same showcase!

I hate to nit pick...but Lacretia was NOT one of the First Four.  She was the fifth.

Now to the games...

Namesake: For a motorhome.  And tough luck on that. Also, what about that gym with a TV and DVD?!  You never saw something like that before.

Punchbaord: For a million by punching the right one and pulling the $50K slip?  At least she followed the protocol of punching a corner first, but no 50K.

Cliffhangers: We've seen those Space Bags on daytime and previous MDS as well. But great playing despite the early gaffe.

Lucky 7: WWWGMC say? A Porche?!  Well, there's been Hondas, Minis and Jaguars.

Grocery Game: NEVER pick a cheap product first!  :clipboard: Net 10 League of Evil Level Three.

Six Digit Squeeze Play: We all yelled "Zero" im the chatroom.

Showcases: Not all famous peeps who go to Hollywood go through New York...they also go through places like Chicago and Philadelphia...

And spunker, they switched the DSW from $1K to $500 after the two DSWs within three weeks of each other's airings.  The new $500 or less limit started with this batch of shows three weeks ago IIRC.

(and no, Innertbue is not going to work for me due to dial up)

Yeah, I'm one who has been part of the argument.  On tpir.tv (which is still running BTW), there is a clip of the 3 Strikes with the Porsche, and there was an explanation about it there. (Hope that helps.)

As for Lacretia, although I did not get to actually see this episode, I could see she was NOT one of the first four.  Those were cleaned out after 4 games.

Nine down, only one left...

GR: What an expensive motorhome! $102K? That's Drew's most expensive prize yet! Too bad it was lost...I also chose the 9.

$1M PUNCHY: I liked the concept here for the MDG, and I liked the overall prize increase to $50K on the game.  I liked the Pricedown dollar signs on the new hole covers, although they need to bring the blue background on them back...the yellow dollar sign is just too hard to see on the white.  Tough luck on the $600.

CLIFFY: I was surprised to, once again, see 2 SP games on the same show, and, this time, back-to-back SP games! Those SPs were tricky...kudos to Aja for winning.

L7: A Porshe? Yeah, foreign cars are here to stay.  :-D  Very tough setup...I also would have lost.

GROCERY: That cheapo Midol got her...if only she would have chosen one more...I also would have lost.

SQUEEZEY: Wow...Squeezey for a $40K-plus car! Fairly easy pickings, although the Peanut Gallery nearly cost her a win.  That zero just looked wrong.

SCs: Compared to the fairly high budget of the rest of the show, the SCs (SC1, at least), seemed fairly lackluster.  My bids:
         SUVs: 60000 (diff. 619)
         Caddy: 90000 (OVER...)

OVERALL: 4/5.  Fairly decent show, and we see Punchy's budget boosted...along with the prize budget for this episode in general.  Only one more MDS remains in this set...what will happen next?

It's MDS time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Golden: A $102k Motorhome being offered is something. But what really took me away was the home gym w/ TV.  drew kinda rushed through this playing but I'm sure he really wanted this won.  Sorry not to see that happened.

Punch: For $50K!!!!!!!!! Major push-up and it's the MDG!!! Finding the $50K on the first punch sounds logical but why could they have just put in a million dollar slip? Yeah, I know that if a contestant would've found the $50K prize and asked to risk it sounds ridiculous. just a thought. I would've stopped with the $5K.

Cliff: Great to see a good win after a rocky start.

Lucky 7: FOR A PORSCHE???!!! :-o :-o :-o :-o Aside from the issues about the foreign car policy, This was a delight to see one offered after all these years. Too bad it was lost.

Grocery: Too bad.

Squeeze: Count me in as one of those who screamed "Zero, Zero, Zero".  The win took me by surprise.

Showcases: I would've bid around $61K on the showcase with the two hybrids and $90K on the Cadillac showcase.  :-( Oh, the pain would've been severe. I'm also a little unpleased about the change from being under $1K to being under $500 to win both showcases and the million. Desperate money-saving plan? Not gonna get into that.

A 6-star show.

Because, the whole point of the M$PG is to only get the million by getting the 50K on the FIRST punch.  If there were a 1,000,000 slip, and the contestant picked it fourth (or in this case, third), that would have been MUCH, MUCH easier to obtain (statistically speaking).

Anyone notice the big white deer head mounted on the wall in one of the "rooms" offered for Grocery Game?

I thought that was a little strange and certainly not at all in line with the whole animal rights views of the show - whether Bob is gone or not, I thought it was quite odd and unecessary.

Golden Road:  I would have missed the 2nd prize but got the 1st and last prize last.  I really wanted Robert to win the $100,000+ prize.

Punch-a-bunch: They increased the highest amount from previous primetime specials and they added 4 Second Chances like in daytime!  I liked the idea used for the million dollar game—much better than Plinko last week.  Apparently, Delishia didn’t want to do the “Yah!” Good for her.

Cliff Hangers: My guesses were $20, $25, and $35.  I wasn’t paying much attention on the first two prices but after the third price was revealed, there was a white background behind the normal blue background.  Has that always been there?  I thought it was always completely blue and there was nothing “behind it”.

Grocery Game: NEVER pick a cheap product first
Several people on this site, including myself, didn't even know that was so cheap  I  thought it would be at least $6.

Squeeze Play: I chose to remove a 0, and we both won!  0 seemed like the obvious number to remove.

SC1:  My Bid: $67,325 / Diff: OVER
SC2:  My Bid: $61,330 / Diff: $27,109

I have to say I really liked this show.  Golden Road I thought was tough, but it had been a while since I had seen it played, so that was kind of fun...

I thought Punch a bunch as the MDG was stupid.  If you're going to do it, put a Million slip in there and they can pick it at any time.  I don't like that this game was only based purely on luck...

In the showcases, I had no idea what the price of the first showcase was.  In the second, I figured it was over $90,000, and I would have been over.

Overall, a pretty good show...

I think that's considerably worse than what they did.  The million-dollar thingies should be additions to the rules, not alterations to them.  (Granted, these were new rules, anyway...but they can be used perfectly well without the million-dollar gimmick.)

This was a pretty good show, but it would've been better if someone won the million.

Golden Road: Well, the guy did win the first two prizes, but the "$100,000 or more" drought continues, since nobody's won anything that expensive yet.

Punch a Bunch: A Million Dollar Game! Wow! I thought that if they ever made this game the MDG, they would put a $1,000,000 slip in one of the holes and whoever found it would win the whole thing! Now that the MDS top prize is $50,000 (which I also like), could a similar boost be in store for daytime? Thirty years ago, $10,000 might have been a big deal, but that's no longer the case. I'd like to see $25,000 on daytime, if not more. Just a thought to ponder.

Cliff Hangers: Woo-hoo, Mr. Yodely Guy lives!

Lucky $even: A Porsche appears on the show for the first time since the famous Toni incident of 1992! Too bad it was lost on the third number. But thankfully, Drew allowed the whole price to be revealed on TV, or otherwise we wouldn't have known the whole thing. I wish they would've done this more often.

Grocery Game: I, too, thought the 99¢ Midol was a joke. And they played the losing horns after the MRRP! Reminds me too much of Check-Out, which is basically a copycat of this game.

Squeeze Play: For a $40,000-plus car? Wow! And somebody won it?! Wow again!

Showcases: I knew this was going to happen eventually, that there would be an overbid on a Showcase. Of course, this never happened while the $1,000 DSW limit was still in place, but now that they cut it back to $500, I figured it would be a matter of time before someone went over. And to make matters worse, it was the guy who had the two hybrid SUVs in his Showcase. The first Showcase overbid in an MDS since Barker's last one, and it ends the same way: The other contestant wins a Cadillac XLR, which happens to be the same car offered in Adam's Showcase when he won the million bucks!

Lots of surreal moments, but otherwise, a fun show to watch from start to finish. Then again, any MDS is always fun to watch!

I was glad to see my favorite cash pricing game back on nighttime.  I was suprised at the new distribution amounts though, but it was a good suprise.  I was getting tired of seeing Plinko all the time.

A Porche makes it back to TPIR for the first time in more than 16 years.  At least Drew asks to see all of the numbers in Lucky Seven after a loss, unlike Bob.

I don't think I ever saw a showcase offer two different makes and model cars in the same showcase:  Saturn & Ford.

For the first time since the military specials in 2002, Grocery Game is once again played for three rooms of furniture.  I know for a fact that where I live, they don't sell trial size Midol containing four pills (the least you can get here is sixteen pills).

Did anyone notice in Golden Road that drew accidentally made a slight reveal of what the number was hiding behind the marker for the second prize?  it was only for a split second, but it was enough to see that, yes indeed, a 2 was the right choice.

I took notice to that as well.  Not sure how the angle would have been for the contestant, but for us at home it was fairly obvious.  Is it bad that I related it to Gallery Game when I saw that?  :)

Thank GOODNESS we got Punch a Bunch in Primetime for the first time in more than 5 YEARS!  I was not as disappointed in the M$ gimmick for Punch a Bunch as I probably could have been.  The biggest complaint for Punch a Bunch I have is the change in the paper punches that were made.  I know lots of things from Primetime generally transition into daytime, but I sincerely hope this one doesn't.  Watching the show in high definition, I still could barely see the prominent blue "$" we have been used to for years.

When the first door opened for the Grocery Game living room, I was a bit disappointed; but once it continued - I was really shocked and impressed with the full 3 door prize package.  Really neat.

Nice to see a Chevy Suburban (LTZ!) offered.  Been awhile since we saw one of those (I recall That's Too Much! was played for one in Primetime Season 31.)

It would still be based purely on luck even if your idea was what really happened.

There was a lady, back in Season 33 I believe, who won a Cabin Cruiser that was $105,000+ on the Golden Road.

I don't think it is that they are afraid all the time. I for one believe that you don't usually see most of these prizes on the daytime show so it is sometimes harder to price them in your head. If you saw them a lot, or similar models, it might be easier.

Not a bad show.  But why six models escorting Drew out of Door 2?  The stage looked way to cluttered.  I liked the first MDS of this series where it was just two models escorting Drew.

And spunker, they switched the DSW from $1K to $500 after the two DSWs within three weeks of each other's airings.  The new $500 or less limit started with this batch of shows three weeks ago IIRC.

Thanks. Been busy with school and forgot the wednesday airdate until last night, and that was the first tim i noticed.

May 14th, 2008 (MDS)

Wow...all seven models in the opening!

GOLDEN ROAD: Did the six-digit placeholder just...tilt?

PUNCH-A-BUNCH: A $50,000 top prize and the first time the Second Chance slips have shown up in Primetime since August 28th, 1986...The Million-Dollar Game? Not expecting that!

THE YODELY GUY GAME CLIFF HANGERS: Pretty good playing!

Second half...

GROCERY GAME: Wow...three rooms of furniture hasn't been done since the Coast Guard Salute on June 6th July 12th May 31st, 2002 {man, that's confusing...}

LUCKY $EVEN: Wow...I'm pretty certain that's the biggest prize offered in this game - and for the first time I'm whipping out the clipboard because :clipboard: didn't want this won.

SQUEEZE PLAY: See above.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

FINAL RULING: Not really an interesting show but if Punch-A-Bunch is really getting with the big-money program then shouldn't Grand Game, It's In The Bag, and pretty much any other game that offers cash in one form or another?

Also, has anybody noticed that the 2003-2007 MDS logo is STILL being used in the CBS split-screen credits?

...Yeah, that's all I got.

On a personal note: That was the first show I saw taped and the woman that won that cruiser (Freda (http://homepage.mac.com/mrbrown2195/images/fredaandme.jpg) - yay for pictures "illegally" taken on CBS property) actually gave me a ticket so I could see the show that day - I got bumped from the first day, and ended up spending 32 hours on Fairfax with her.

Did anyone notice Rachel's reaction after the LOSING HORNS played, it was as if she wasn't expecting to hear that, I believe out of all the models on the show, I'm convinced Brandi & Rachel are the ones that know the games well and are prepared when the dreaded LOSING HORNS plays. But that was a rarity, again view that segment of GROCERY GAME, and check out her reaction, on the side shot that involves Drew and the contestant as well.

Wario -

Regarding the Porsche in Lucky $even - it was one of the biggest prizes offered in the game, but I remember at least two in excess of it. On Drew's first MDS, there was a $63,000 + Corvette convertible, and in one of Bob's, it was played for a Cadillac XLR worth over $76,000. Both were won. :)

I also remember a pretty expensive Hummer H2 being up for grabs in one of the very first MDS shows, too. Was worth at least $53,000.

Also, I have to wonder about the friend in your signature...whether she meant that you would say that at all, or that you needed to add the part about the car.  :D

Awesome show, but more importantly an awesome lineup. In my mind there is no doubt that this particular lineup was the best thus far of the MDS's. You had Golden Road, you had Punch-a-Bunch making a triumphal return to the primetime lineup, you had yet another sp game in Cliffy, you had the two sp games played back to back, you had L7 for a Porsche, you had Grocery Game for 3 "rooms" and to top it all off you had 5 digit Squeeze Play for a Suburban. How much better a lineup can you get? Kudos to the Dob for putting together yet another awesome lineup.

Another pretty good and depressing show. Some good wins (including the last game where a $40,000 CAR WAS WON  :-o!! I DIDN'T SEE THAT ONE COMING!!). The Lucky 7 game was EXTREMELY TOUGH! Nobody really had expected A PORSCHE!!!!!

a CADILLAC X LR (not slr, Joe) was won in the showcase. A 3rd high point in the show

Overall: 8.5/10

A great show but a bit depressing  :-( :-(

GOLDEN ROAD: That $100,000 motorhome looked nice!! Too bad it wasn't won. Any of the 4 numbers could've worked in the pice
PUNCH A BUNCH: SHE SHOULD'VE TAKEN THE $5000!!
LUCKY 7: BEAUTIFUL CAR!! That was a tough game. I was way off when i was watchin and playing at home
SQUplayin along at homeEEZE PLAY: Great Win. I knew the 0 didn't belong in the price.
