Double Cross seemed like an easy win, $2530 was the only even-numbered price available for the washer/dryer, and if you knew the rule about pairs of items, it was a gimme. A very close call on Range Game, I thought for sure he had stopped too low. But ending the day with a PAINFUL near-WSD almost ruined it.

I have seen pairs of items end in an odd number. Say, for example, if both items separately  costed $1,400.50 the total would be $2,801. I don't think there's ever been a "pair of items" rule.

Remember the old days when the first number of the car in Temptation was a gimme? Man, those were good times.

Should've kept the antacid in Pick-a-Pair...

Another evil Temptation didn't help matters either.

Really? I could've sworn there was something like "if it's a pair of items, it must end in an even number" type rule. My bad if not.

No, we’ve discussed this in the past when it happened - but I remember something like a pair of scooters in, say, Double Prices or One Right Price where the correct price on them ended in an odd number due to rounding.

I recall Bob Barker saying in the early days of TPIR, in the IUFB that "the prices are rounded off to the nearest dollar, so give me your bids in dollars please." Whether or not they still do, I do not know.

One thing that truly annoys me on that game-- why many players of it do not take the sure thing and take the prizes and forget the car. Sure, you'd have to pay taxes on those prizes (including the cash), but that would be far preferable to paying taxes on that car!

I recall the Dob saying in one of the Q&A's that for prize packages they add all of the prizes' prices in dollars and cents, and then round the total to the nearest dollar.  Hence, a pair of identical prizes doesn't have to end in an even number — although in practice they generally do as prices generally tend to end in .99 or .00 more often.

Even then, this wasn't a pair of the same item. It was a washer and dryer, which are two different items. The price of the two of them can still end in an odd number, even if the prices of each individual item were rounded to the nearest dollar.

I'm fine with this setup because the last number was the gimme. How many times have we seen the final prize be worth $500?

Having both difficult is tough.

Very true. That thought did cross my mind.

Major props to whoever wrote the second showcase.  It felt like it was something out of the old days.
