Title: 9821's The Price is Right Episode 1 - Something... interesting?
Post by: TPIRfan#9821 on March 24, 2020, 08:38:40 PM
Hello all! I'm throwing my hat into the ring and hosting my own episode of The Price is Right! Ever since this section was rebooted, we've had tributes back to the early 1970s, wacky setups, and lovely half-hour and hour shows.

Well, I think it's time for a slight change of pace. Besides Contestant's Row, I tried to change with the formula a little bit, including:

So, with that in mind, who's ready to play?

If you want to get contestant priority, I've got just the prompt for you!

I wanted to create a HYO ever since it came back. In fact, I've been working on and off this script since July 10th. This script is now like 8% of what that original script is. Let's say I could go back in time and give myself friendly advice from today, March 24th. What is the one piece of advice I should give myself?

Participation in the prompt isn't required, but is recommended. I plan to start the show at around 9:00 PM EST, on March 27th, but will adjust the date if necessary.

Also, the nitty gritty:

Oh boy, excited to try this new recipe!

I wanted to create a HYO ever since it came back. In fact, I've been working on and off this script since July 10th. This script is now like 8% of what that original script is. Let's say I could go back in time and give myself friendly advice from today, March 24th. What is the one piece of advice I should give myself?

Narrowing it down to one piece of advice is difficult, but if you could only do one:

Anything you were planning on doing in 2020, make sure you do it before the end of February.

The best piece of advice? Help control the pet population; have your pets spayed or neutered!

I'll play!

Woah, this sounds like it's gonna be great, I'm definitely in.

My advice back would be to stock up on all the toilet paper.

A new format, huh? I'm actually surprised cu approved this script, since it's quite different from the original Price. But, hey, let's do it! Now what's my advice...well, since Numbers stole my first idea, here's the only thing I could've told you:

Don't go on a cruise after February.

Post by: therealcu2010 on March 25, 2020, 08:55:38 AM
It's really not that radically different. The only thing that's different is the Showcase Showdown format... and the Showcase itself for that matter. Everything else still flows like the real show does.

I'll play, I really like the Gift Exchange idea as a new version of the SCSD.

As for my advice, make sure your computer can handle both hosting the show and working from home (or online classes if you're a student) come March.

Make sure the prize department is avoiding COVID-19 conflicts with their choices.  Trips to anywhere but home are pretty much out of the question unless this episode isn’t airing for a long while.  :oldlol:

This will certainly be an interesting change of format.  I'm in.

The advice I'd give: "You're not gonna want to leave your house at all once 2020 rolls around.  Do not ask why.  Just don't leave your house.  And make sure you have toilet paper."

Wow, I'm surprised by the turnout! Everyone, just sit back, relax, and enjoy the show!

Here it comes, from a random person's computer in the middle of California, presented on the golden-road.net boards, it's The Price is Right!

tpir04, come on down!

Prizes, come on down!

123123123, come on down!

And tpiradam, come on down!

You are the first four contestants as we stay inside for this special edition of The Price is Right! And now, here's your host, Mr. 9821!

*cheers from the audience, as I come out taking off a facemask*

Hello everyone! Thank you for coming out! Unfortunately, we don't have models today, because this is already a social gathering of more than 10 people, but hey, if only 7 people get called on down, that's only 9 people that get on camera!

Anyways, I hope you guys are ready for surprises in this 45-minute episode. Announcer, can we see the first item up for bids?

Can do. It's a designer watch!

This innovative wrist watch doesn't have any numbers on it! Instead, with the press of a button, this watch tells the time with only words and four dots. This watch comes with 114 illuminating units, an adjustable Milanaise bracelet, and a 39mm by 39mm brushed stainless steel case!

Alright, so let's get down to the bidding. We'll start with tpir04, and then go down the line, just as usual. I beseech you to not bid over $19,999, since we still use the seven-segment displays. (21:33 PDT/00:33 EST)

Uhhhh 9821? The four of us down here are less than six feet apart from each other. Perhaps you should do something about that before the authorities drag us away...uh oh, too late:

*doors bust open*

"There! In the front! Less than six feet apart! We must seize them and imprison them!"

*military arrives with machine guns and tanks*

*We step six feet away from each other*

"No, no, no, too late. The virus may have already spread! You're getting solitary confinement until this virus ends!"

As I get dragged away I scream: "SEVEN THOUSAND!!!!"

Okay officers, I get the military coming, but machine guns and tanks? The plan was for contestants not appearing on stage to get a coronavirus test. Can I just have the four get tested, and I promise that the rest of the contestants won't come down to Contestants' Row?

*general agreement from the officers*

Thank you very much officers. Actually, I only have three tests, since only three contestants are going to not come on stage. So yeah, take tpir04 away  ;-)

Anyways, 04 puts up 7 Grover Clevelands.

It's not like your signature 1233 you like to use in your HYOs is any better considering it's a mere 1,860,867 :P

From looking it up, however, I'm seeing that replacing 47 with 41 actually gives the correct value, so I'm not sure if TPIRFan#9821 wants to correct your name tag to show 41 instead of 47, or if he just wants to start calling you 141141141 instead :oldlol:

That's $1,234 for Prizes *ding!*

...did I really mess up the factorization? That's just peachy. I had a joke ready about being in your prime, but frankly, that just proved that I'm just odd :P Also, thanks for the idea tpiradam!
*takes out Sharpie and scribbles it down a whole bunch of binary digits*

...and I'll throw up your bid of $3,123 *ding!*

And a simple $11 from tpiradam *ding!*

I love how we have a huge range of bids on this item, from $11 to $7,000. Well, actual retail price is...

$1,390!

Prizes, come on up!

Welcome to the show! You won the watch, which counts in an unusual way, isn't that right Announcer?

It sure does. But what doesn't count in a weird way is the odometer... in your brand new car!

It's the 2019 Infiniti QX30 Luxe AWD. Comes equipped with a 2.0L Turbo 4-cylinder engine, Intelligent Key with Push Button Start, and INFINITI Intelligent All-Wheel Drive! Also included are 18-inch painted alloy wheels, Infiniti Wi-Fi, Infiniti Radiant Illuminated Kick Plates, a Rear Bumper Protector made from Stainless Steel, the best in QI charging with a wireless charger, all-season fllor mats, trunk lower finisher, cargo organizer and reversible protector, both a black pearl and chrome license plate frame, and first aid kit! It's a prize worth: $39,821!

Oh boy, that's a nice car. We're going to be playing a game called Binary Search. We've got five small prizes, and if you can correctly price all five of them, you'll walk out of here with that beautiful car. Announcer, can you help us by describing these items?

Of course I can!

This electronic digital picture frame from Google comes equipped with a 7" touchscreen display and a digital voice assistant!

This cable from Apple coverts a Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt 2!

Have a dazzling appearance with these 14-karat gold lightning bolt earrings!

Next, thunder and trumpet through the skies with this rocket model kit!

And finally, it's Farkle, the classic dice-rolling risk taking game! It's fun for the whole family! Get in with the fun! And as a bonus, everyone in the audience will be receiving a game of Farkle to play for themselves! In fact, if you want to play against the computer, here you go! (https://www.coolmathgames.com/0-zilch) You might not want to access it from Chrome since they are killing Flash Player, but whatever!

Thank you Announcer. Prizes, we're going to go down the line with those items.

The endpoints are on the sides of the display. Do you think that the hub is $65, $193, or do you want to do the binary search and go down the middle, with $129? (21:41 PDT/00:41 EDT)

$129 says Prizes. Is that correct?

*ding!*

It is indeed! Let's take a look at the adapter next.

For the cable, the ARP is either $49, $113, or down the middle with $81. Notice the range between the endpoints has gotten smaller; the game only gets harder from here on out. You can give me a guess for the adapter, or you can just forget about the car right now, and I'll give you a fat $1,500. Your call. (01:24 PDT/04:24 EDT)

***PEANUT GALLERY***
Not 100% sure, but I feel like the cable might be $49, just a hunch.

Also, tpiradam managed to botch the math WAAAAAAAY harder than 9821 did: when converted to decimal,
001100010011001000110011001100010011001000110011001100010011001000110011
gives 907507748629153657395, though I'm sure Numbers wouldn't mind being called 907507748629153657395 instead since it's WAAAAY bigger than 123123123 :P

For reference, 123123123 in binary actually happens to be merely 111010101101011010110110011

Do you think the earrings are $155, $187, or $171? Or, would you rather just sit down with $3,000 and a great non-winning score going into the Gift Exchange?

And, that's all she wrote. Sorry you couldn't win that car, but you'll be back for our Gift Exchange. You still get the watch, and you technically get a dongle and Google Nest Hub. But Announcer, I think it's time for another contestant.

You're right. How about gamesurf, please stand. And DON'T COME ON DOWN, but you're the next contestant on The Price is Right.

Just stay at your seat, gamesurf, just for safety. Let's see if you enjoy this prize, Announcer.

It's 30 months of 30 months of Watson Studio Cloud Standard!

Comes with 50 capacity unit hours a month, and full access to Watson Studio tools, except for the off button.

Not a future where Skynet takes over and ruins my life!

OK then. gamesurf, we'll start with you, and end with 04.

I said I'd be back with your name on a price tag, and oh boy, did I ever do it!

Your name is on the Giant Price Tag! :P

I doubt you'll be able to take that home, so I've got a couple of prizes for you instead!

It's a leaning tower of Nintendo Switch accessories and dresser! First, that Nintendo Switch comes bundled with Let's Go, Pikachu! and a Poké Ball Plus (but not Animal Crossing: New Horizons because 9821 took too long to start the darn show :P ). 3 additional pairs of Joy-Cons, 4 pairs of Joy-Con Charging Grips, Adjustable Charging Stand, and pair of Joy-Con Wheels are included! Also, this lovely 6 Drawer Double Dresser comes in a lovely shade of red with black tassels! This dresser extends up 38”, and is willing to give your room some more oomph!

If you want to win those items, you'll have to conquer the Magic Square.

The game is simple; one digit in each column is correct. Choose the right one for all three digits, and you win. If you don't, I'll even be nice and tell you which ones you didn't miss :)

So, start cracking! We don't have all day!

Here comes the moment of truth. For a six-thousand-something drawer and some awesome Nintendo Switch gear, is Numbers right with $735?

*Buzz! Losing horns!*

(I'll take the blame for this one, because I totally forgot to change the setup so the correct answer wasn't dead in the middle before the show started. That was unnecessarily mean.) But hey, at least you get to spend 30 months trying to negotiate with AI that humans aren't that bad! And you'll be back for our Gift Exchange. But now, we must take a commercial break. Don't go anywhere!

I meant don't go anywhere. We're back! Announcer, who's the next contestant?

Say, have you ever heard of paying the rent?

How did the landlord find me? I'm not here; I'm my brother Pedro.

No, I mean our next contestant, PayingTheRent! Please stand, but DON'T COME ON DOWN this special episode of The Price is Right!

You solved one problem, but I still have to deal with my landlord.

Believe it or not, this next item up for bids might actually help!

A fishbowl of cash so I can finally pay him off?

No, silly, that would never fly with S&P.

Instead, we've got a refurbished revolver!

According to a wise man on Family Feud, a way to kill a lively party is with a gun. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zs_ZaX7siHA) This mid-1800's revolver from Hopkins & Allen comes with a 5" octagonal barrel and can hold up to 5 .31 caliber bullets! This gun also comes with a light even patina!

$975 for PTR... *ding!*

$915 for thank you so much for reminding me I'm a little slow on the draw on updating this game *ding!*

And the actual retail price is...

Ouch, that's rough. $950. 04, please come up on stage!

PayingTheRent, you had the right idea, but just was a tad bit agressive. tpir04, I want to play Russian Roulette for your prizes, but TTTB said no. So, we've got a safer game, where you can win this:

How about $1,000 worth of toilet paper...

A MacBook Pro...

And a new golf cart!

First, our friends at Scott have agreed to give $1,000 worth of toilet paper! In addition, everyone in the audience will be recieving a 12-pack of their 1000 sheet toilet paper!

Second, the Apple MacBook pro comes equipped with a 16" Display with Touch Bar, a one-terabyte SSD, and 16 GB of RAM!

Finally, this golf cart has a 48-volt battery and has a bed capacity of over 450 pounds!

It's a Panic Button package worth... $11,219!

Thank you, Announcer! Now, I'm sure you tuned into Mashup Week a while ago on the real Price is Right. However, I couldn't help but notice that they reused the same five games as last time. Let's change that. I've taken out a game that's been retired from that show for four years, and it's all hooked up and ready to go!

The name of the game is Panic Button, as evidenced by the six shiny buttons. I tried to find a video of it being played online to help you visualize what was going on, but the closest I got was former site member WooWho hosting a mock episode at his local college, and for everyone's sake, I won't post that. What you need to know is that you want to press the three buttons that correlate to the cheapest three items. If you can successfully do that, I will give you all three prizes. However, every mistake you make will make you lose a prize, starting with the $7,000 golf cart, then the $3,000 MacBook, and finally the $1,000 of toilet paper. After you pick a GP, I will tell you if it was one of the more expensive items or least expensive items, and reveal its ARP.

Announcer, could you tell us more about the items?

I can indeed!

First, the Personal Panic Alarm can produce a sound of up to 130 dB if you are in a tight situation.

Second, that's 5 pounds of Yukon Gold Seed Potatoes.

Third, we've got 2 ounces of minced onions.

Fourth, it's a 10.8 ounce box of Honey Nut Cheerios.

Fifth, that's 7 ounces of salami slices.

Finally, that's 8 ounces of unsweetened cacao!

tpir04, feel free to give me your first guess, or all three if you want.

Haha not at all, the 8:58 reference was because of my $915 bid, which if I had waited 17 more minutes I would have been able to bid $915 at 9:15. Sorry bout that, I make really bad jokes.  :D

Yikes, this looks tough. Audience, any help?

*from crowd*

I remember this game from LMAD, it was probably one of my favorites from the new era. Too bad it was retired.

Anyways, I'd pick the potatoes and onions for sure. Can't really decide on the last one, but don't pick the sound machine.

Alright, Button 4, is that right?

BUZZ!

I guess not. The ARP of those Cheerios was... wait seriously? Announcer, where the heck did you find a box of Cheerios to be worth $4.88?

I just clicked the first link that popped up on "Honey Nut Cheerios price".

...I guess the golf cart is gone then. I'm not too concerned since there's an all-or-nothing endgame, but really?

I guess pick another item. For the sake of you not saying that you found it cheaper at other stores, here are my sources for the rest of the items. I assume you won't cheat.

Alarm - The Home Security Superstore
Potatoes - Rural King
Minced Onions - Vons
Salami - Target
Cacao - Target

All these are based off of prices in Los Angeles.

The salami. Is that cheap salami?

DING-DING-DING-DING!

It is indeed. For the record, the correct items were the potatoes ($2.45), salami ($3.49), and cocoa ($3.19), and the wrong items were the alarm ($8.99), onions ($4.19), and Cheerios ($4.84).

Well, congratulations on winning the toilet paper and the MacBook. We'll see you back for the Gift Exchange, where you'll be ahead of Prizes and Numbers!

That's assuming you don't want to play to win back the golf cart.

I have two more grocery items, marked item A and item B. Item A is a 20-ounce family pack of Oreos. Item B is a 4-count of 1-oz packages of Jell-O Pudding (NOTE: The image only looks like one box; it's actually four boxes). If you want to go for the clean sweep, you can make one more decision on which of these items is cheaper. If you are right, you win everything. If not, well, at least you have your gun and Second Amendment rights. The choice is yours, and yours alone, 04. Do you want to play on for the full package, or keep the $3,799 in items you have already?

I dunno, seems like the items are too close together and I can't nail a definite price on either of them. At least I'm guaranteed second place in the Gift Exchange, and even if I wasn't...at least I still got my TP.

Now since this is (or was) a LMAD game, Wayne usually asks the contestants what they would've done if they continued. I would've picked the Jello.

You would have made the wrong choice. The Oreos were $3.52, and the Jell-O was $3.99. Good job bailing out. We'll have one final contestant come on down now. Announcer, who will it be?

How about Plinkoman! FOR THE LAST TIME, STAY AT YOUR SEAT, but you're the next contestant on The Price is Right!

Plinkoman! You've got one shot, do not waste your chance to blow. Announcer, what's the final item up for bids?

We've given away everything but the kitchen sink, so let's change that with this new kitchen sink! This sink gives a real farmhouse vibe and has corrosion resistance and anti-microbial properties. It comes with a fire patina, 16 guage, and a bronze spout!

Announcer, how many prizes are there that have a patina? We just had the gun, and now this.

All of them.

Fair dos. Plinkoman, we'll start with you, and go down the line.

$900 for gamesurf *ding!*
$1100 for PtR *ding!*
and $1105 for tpiradam *ding!*

...and the Actual Retail Price is... $1,695! tpiradam, that's all you!

Well, tpiradam, you finally made it! Your reward is this:

Two brand new cars!

It's the 2020 Chevy Spark! It's literally the dirt cheap options, so 5-speed MT, 1.4L engine, four wheels, etc. Each car has a base MSRP of $14,065!

Thank you for that exposé. You know what, I'll throw in $1,100 15" silver-painted wheels on the red car. Is that good enough for you, tpiradam? No?

Fine, pick your own darn options on the passion fruit car, since you don't like the wheels.

Just don't go over $1,100 (or technically $1,103, since there is no mathematical way of getting $1,100 with the other options). The wheels might not be the most expensive option on that list, and you have four tries. You can give me all your options at once, or just one at a time.

Oh, and if you need clarification on what any of these options are, feel free to ask.

Our budget for this show might have ran out at this point, so I had to make do with a ruler, a Hot Wheels car, and some red string :P

Paint shouldn't cost that much, right?

Right?

Good grief, you don't make anything easy, huh? I guess I'll go for it. I'll bid $9,821...why not?

I like to make my games like I like the Cleveland Browns: ironically hardcore. You also missed the car in the first pricing game that was worth $39,821 apparently :P $9,821 for 04 *ding!*

tpiradam, I hope you like this prize:

It's a new Rolex!

The Date 34 features a dial in 18 ct gold, a 34 mm Oyster case, and is self-winding via a perpetual motor!

Good luck.

$4,500, says Adam. *ding!*

We'll be back to see who wins after a commercial break.

We're back. We'll go down the line. 04, you had the tractor. That tractor has an actual retail price of:

$11,422. Leaving you with a difference of...

$1,601. Not great, not terrible. Now, Numbers. You bid $5,445 on the pinball machine. ARP is...

$6,099, for a difference of...

$654. That's enough to knock 04 out, but will it be enough to take the win? We'll see.

tpiradam, you bid $4,500 on the Rolex. Actual retail price:

Wow, $8,550. This watch justifies 04's $7,000 bid earlier, but that's not going to be enough to pull a win.

Finally, we're down to Prizes. If the price of the gold is bet$ween $7,667 to $8,320, you're moving on to the endgame. The ARP of the gold is...

$7,826! For a difference of $159!

Prizes, come on up, one last time! Thank you 04, 123^3, and Adam for coming on out.

Now, Prizes, for tonight's showcase, you're going to get a showcase valued between $30,000 and $100,000. You'll have a range of $6,000 to $15,000 to work with, and if the ARP of the showcase is within that range, you'll be a winner!.

I need you to pick an envelope (1-10) to determine what your range will be (these envelopes have been randomized, so no need to read into my psychology), and also choose between these two themes for your showcase:

Showcase A: A Trip to the Ballgame
Showcase B: Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na... Leftovers Man!

But should I read into the randomizer’s philosophy? That’s the important question.

4 it is for the range, with Trip to the Ballgame as the theme.

Okay, let's just do this. You chose envelope #4, which contains... a $13,000 range! Great picking! Now, here's your really poorly themed showcase!

Your showcase deals with a *planned trip* to the ball game, starting when your friends gave you...

Two season passes to the 2020 Houston Astros season! You'll be enjoying two tickets to every home game of the Astros, upfront where the first base line meets the wall!

You were so excited to go along with your friends, but then the Astros cheating scandal and the current pandemic happened. So instead, you'll be staying at home, watching past baseball games...

on this trio of TVs!

These 4K Ultra HD TVs are sure to bring life to any part of your home. This trio includes 86" and 82" LED and 77" OLED screens!

And you can enjoy watching any baseball game from the comfort of this new hot dog sofa!

This is pretty much what it looks like: a sofa shaped like a hot dog. The sofa is 6 feet 2 inches wide and 3 feet and 9.3 inches high. Hot dog pillow included!

Once you're done slouching on the couch, you might want to get in shape for the spring season. Just like baseball players are supposed to be practicing right now, you decide to take the initiative yourself...

with this new home gym! This T3-X home gym comes with 7 different training stations and over 300 exercise to perform. This gym has a modular structure... and apparently is bulletproof for some reason? From TYTAX!

Finally, when you get tired with exercising, you decide that there is nothing better than cruising around in your brand new car!

The 2020 Kinetic Blue Metallic Chevy Bolt EV comes equipped with electrical drive unit and front wheel drive. Comfort and Convenience Package, Driver Confidence Package, and Driver Confidence II Package included!

..and this showcase can be yours, but only if,
The Price is Right!

Prizes, that's a great showcase. All you need to do is give me a $13,000 range of prices for the collection, and if the ARP falls in your range, you win it all!

Or, I'll cut your range in half, to $6,500, but I'll tell you the price of one of the five items in today's showcase. Your call.

Love the SC! So glad I get to play this one out. I’ll keep the awesome range I pulled and hope the strat that almost was to help a recent player get a DSW work here. Bid of finality, right down the line: $56,789.

If the showcase is between $56,789 and $69,789, you're a winner. The cost of the entire prize package is...

BUZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!

Oh, I'm so sorry. That's such a bummer to be such a great player, yet just undershoot in the end. You've still got your gold and watch, and it was a pleasure meeting you. Take care.

Well, that's our show. It was a little rocky, but what goes smoothly the first time? Until we meet again, I'm 9821, and it's been a pleasure spending the last moth with you. So long!

And, that's a wrap. Next time, I'm just going to do an all Double Prices show, since there's no way that causes a winless show :P Feel free to tell me where I need to improve, including how to make easy setups!
TOTALS:
Prizes: $9,394
tpir04: $4,749
123123123: $2,970
tpiradam: $1,695
Paying the Rent, gamesurf, Plinkoman: $47 + a lemon
Everyone else: $8 Farkle and $12 in toilet paper

A Trip to the Ballgame:
Season Passes - $15,604 (If the range bailout option was used, I think it should have gone to this item.)
Trio of TVs - $9,800 (The key thing for this prize was that the 77" was an OLED, not a regular LED. The 86" and 82" were $2,300 and $2,000, respectively, while the OLED TV was $5,500)
Sofa - $7,100 (This was the meanest prize of the entire show. This prize meant that you had to bid aggressively on this Showcase, or you would undershoot massively.)
Home Gym - $7,900 (It's out of stock now, it it seems like the price is going to increase to $8,700. Not like it matters, since I stuck to the script on the ARPs on the script I sent cu.)
Chevy Bolt - $39,435 (Not too bad if you knew how much a Bolt cost.)

My observations:
