So for the second time in TPIR history, we have a show that gave away nothing but cars (The first was the 5,000th show). What a fitting way to end season 43. Can't wait for September and season 44.

Maybe it's just me but on days like today, if you have a really nice prize lineup for the games (and all cars at that--nice touch!), suddenly having a two-prize showcase just seems at odds.  Even if prize #3 was something as small as a digital camera, two-prizers have just never sat well.

So for the second time in TPIR history, we have a show that gave away nothing but cars (The first was the 5,000th show).

This is actually the 4th known show to have all the pricing games played for cars - there was a teen drivers special back in Season 40, and a 1975 show also had every pricing game played for a car.

The fourth time. 3/7/75 which had Range for a $9,600 Cadillac, 4/9/98 which was really the 5,132nd show, 5/28/12 for Teen Drivers, and of course, 6/26/15, today.

I Wasn't expecting 4 Non-Car games.
That itself must be a record for Non-Car games played in one show.

I beg your pardon but don't they play 4 non-car games (3 on 3-car days) every day?

He means non car games played for cars which today's episode I think would be the only time.

Anybody got the price of that Mini Cooper? Unless the Monterey trip was beefed up, it looks like that was the only car they offered worth more than $20,000.

It actually is, since the Teen Driver's Show had 3 normal car games, while the celebratory 5,000th had four.

It wouldn't shock me if they put Secret X last specifically to wait and see how the rest of the show went before deciding where the X was going to be.

If they had gone with the traditional "hard" car setup with the X on the bottom, the game would have been lost.

I assume the College Back To School special is on 8/10, but does anybody have any idea what the "TBA sometime in August" or 9/8 episodes are supposed to be?

Also, I wonder what the conversation was at the showcase winner's house afterwards...
"Are you kidding?  We can't keep that convertible - do you have any idea what the insurance would be for a convertible with a 16-year-old in the house?  We'd have to sell the other car you won just to afford it!  (Especially if they're in California, where girls have to pay more than in other states to defray the costs of 16-year-old boys, since California's Proposition 103 banned sex discrimination in auto insurance.)

I am so, so, so happy that they didn't spoil this as an all-car show like they did three years ago (can't believe it's been that long).

Shame it had to be interrupted halfway through. It messed up the flow I was feeling, waiting for the third game and wondering if it would be a car game. Also, before anyone jumps on me, I had no problem with the preemption. It was an important event, worthy of the coverage it was getting and that it only made us miss about 10 minutes or less of show time. I'm just noting that it took a bit of the edge off of the surprise.

I assume the College Back To School special is on 8/10, but does anybody have any idea what the "TBA sometime in August" or 9/8 episodes are supposed to be?
I've been told the show on 8/10 is a Beach Party episode (filmed to makeup for the canceled Halloween show). 9/8 is going to be Back-To-School. TBA in August is 8/25 according to CBS.com and that is the episode that was originally going to air on Cinco De Mayo and bumped for an unspecified reason. Some say Baltimore, others say Nepal, both newsworthy events occurring at the time. Whatever the reason, it must've been something important because it's been said that the show featured date-sensitive material requiring it to air on the date in question.

Personally, seeing that this actually was a all-car show, I kinda feared that this would be a outright skunked show...But I guess it wasn't all bad, to say the least.

THE BAD NEWS:

Money Game: Well, Kevin and Trevor won $227.

Range Game: Perhaps Peggy should let her daughter make the decision.

Gas Money: A tad predictable setup, honestly.

Pushover: This was a bit easy, seeing that this was a standard Fiat.

THE GOOD NEWS:

Hi-Lo: The only game that got preempted by the news coverage...From noticing the recap, this was a decent setup and win.

Secret X: Of course, it was gonna be in the middle...Good job by Jennifer and Julia!

THE BOTTOM LINE:

So far, this was a OK special and it was good that they didn't spoil the all-car theme. This has been a good season!

It wouldn't shock me if they put Secret X last specifically to wait and see how the rest of the show went before deciding where the X was going to be.

Or maybe because it was one of the less expensive cars, they were more willing to give this one away.

Granted, if it was specifically to wait, there's not much to keep the show from doing that.

Yes, I should have counted in Triple Play.
But, given how few times it gets played .
And how it probably wouldn't have been played during the Sweet 16 show.
I didn't.

It did. However, that episode was originally intended for air on 5/6, as evidenced in its production code (7123K, where the ending 3 denotes a Wednesday - which 5/6 was). We're still missing the show that was originally meant for 5/5.

Something I meant to ask about yesterday but forgot to: At the beginning of the show Drew said that if any 16 year olds were watching at home that would mean they're home from school sick.  Most if not all schools should be closed for the summer by now.  So I wonder if he just forgot that the episode would be airing in late June and he only had the tape date in his head making that comment, or was this episode meant to have aired earlier when at least some schools would still be in session?

Or just explain that and keep the convertible for one (or more) of the adults?  If you don't put the 16 year old on that insurance (and then obviously don't let them drive it) it wouldn't be a factor.

Are you not considering any show where Triple Play was won in this?

Season 35 Premiere I believe set the record on the number of cars won in one show.

About this show, All of those games were setup fairly and reasonable and I also believe Flerbert419 was exactly correct in his Secret X thinking.  Anyway, props big time to whomever wrote this show.  You have proven to me, whether you know it or not, that a "three car day" can be and should be done on a "regular" basis.

A three car day is (or at least was) defined as follows:

A TPiR episode, excluding anniversary, season premiere, special, etc. episodes in which a pricing game normally not played for a car is indeed played for a car and which two other normal car PG games are also played.  This was usually done during those weeks in which a Big Three game was not played.
