Title: new pricing game idea - "Turkey!"
Post by: whowouldeverhurtawhammy on December 07, 2017, 01:12:43 AM
I listened to some constructive criticisms on my previous idea of a new pricing game, "Drill for Oil," and agreed that a game should be explained in as little time as possible. To that end, I brainstormed this idea of a game.

"Turkey!" would be a cash game played for up to $100,000 cash, and it uses a bowling motif.

There are three bowling lanes, each with 10 pins set up. The object of the game is to score a turkey (three strikes in a row in a standard bowling game) to win the cash. But in order to be able to bowl, the contestant must know the prices of three grocery items/small prizes to win bowling balls.

There are three bowling balls to earn in order to win everything. To win a bowling ball, the contestant must guess the correct price of the grocery items/small prizes, with two potential prices per ball. The contestant must win at least one ball in order to have a chance at bowling (just like in Secret "X", Rat Race, etc.), or the game ends.

Once the contestant wins their bowling balls, they will have one shot per lane to knock all the pins down. If they strike down all the pins in the first two lanes, they win $25,000 per lane (hence, the first $50,000); otherwise, for every pin they knock down, they get $500 per pin. There are no guardrails on the sides, so the contestant must not hit the gutter or they get nothing for that lane (which would mean that it is possible to win absolutely nothing)!

For the final lane, the contestant plays for another $50,000. If they strike down the final lane, their winnings are augmented to $100,000. Otherwise, if they fail to hit all the pins, they get $1,000 per pin.

What happens if the contestant hits some pins in the first two lanes (for example, 8 each) but manages to strike the final lane?

They would win $58,000 I assume. $8,000 for knocking down the 16 pins on the first two lanes and $50,000 for the strike on the final lane.

I guess that makes sense

That is correct. Each pin in the first two lanes is worth $500, so $500 x 8 is $4,000. Then, $4,000 x 2 warrants $8,000 for the first 2 lanes. This score can also be attained by striking out the first two lanes for $25,000 x 2 = $50,000 + $8,000 for knocking down 8 pins in the final lane.

Also, the lanes are played in order. So, if the contestant wins the first two bowling balls for the first two lanes, but fails to win the third ball for the final lane, then only the first two lanes are played for up to $50,000. If, however, the contestant wins the first and third bowling balls but fails to win the second (or wins the second and third, but doesn't win the first), then they are playing for up to $75,000.

If only one ball is earned, then the lane that corresponds to the proper order of the ball will determine how much the contestant is playing for. As mentioned, the first two lanes are for up to $25,000 each. So, if the contestant only wins one ball for either of those two lanes (i.e., contestant earns one ball for the second lane only), then they are only playing for up to $25,000 or $500 per knocked pin. If they win the third ball only, then they play for up to $50,000 or $1,000 per knocked pin.

There are no guardrails on the sides, so the contestant must not hit the gutter or they get nothing for that lane (which would mean that it is possible to win absolutely nothing)!

And I think that the "mrrp" should be played in this game if a contestant hits the gutter on any lane-- what do you think?
