What an episode. First we get a perfect show, and then a record-breaking and near unbelievable Showcase Showdown! Three $10,000 wins and then two $25,000 wins (and hence a spinoff after that). A triple-double!! Just... wow!

How are we going to go back to a "mere" $1,000 for getting a dollar after that? :)

Gamewise, a fantastic lucky win in One Away. I'm not a fan of the Double Prices prop redo, but it was a win at least.

Season 46 is off to a tremendous start.

Wow. Just wow. Definitely in the top ten episodes of the Carey Era

And I got $1.00 that says $1.00 will be worth $10,000 from here onward 😜

I'll be that guy and make sure this isn't forgotten... what the heck with DP? Too many colors, too many patterns, and the two tags look exactly the same. DP is the simplest game, it did not need the busiest prop, geez. This is probably the most ridiculous and needless refurbishing of the bunch in the Drew era so far.

Interesting that they actually did have a cashless show on this premiere week. And no Grand... and no SP game today even. I think they were afraid of OA going really long as they sometimes are, but of course an entirely different segment took nearly 8 minutes instead. The editing actually was pretty decent - I was expecting a butcher job. They got lucky OA, Race and to an extent A# ran short.

That... was... mind blowing!! I honestly thought there was going be a triple triple, and let out the biggest groan when the wheel nudged the 0.05. Being in the audience for this must have been absolutely electric.

The new paint job on Double Prices is nice, not crazy about the price tags, but it deserved a facelift. (Btw, didn't it have a LCD screen during one of the Million Dollar Spectaculars? What ever happened to that?...)

Yep, this was a good one. :-)

I'm not a fan of the Double Prices paint job either. I realize the old paint job didn't fit the current set, but they didn't need to go this far for a simple game. At the least, the tags should have been different colors, as they always had been.

Now can Money Game's set be redone soon? And not look too busy?

Yeah, great show all around. I was fairly neutral about the Double Prices paint job, though on reflection I think I like the previous look for it more. Still, I figure it'll grow on me in time.

There's one word to describe today's show: WOW!
    Everything went right.

We had a Perfect Show ( 1st one since 4/18/16 ) , with great game play all around.
We had the greatest Showcase Showdown , in maybe , ever. The only way its going to be top is a Triple-Triple.
Unless they raise the Bonuses for the S.S. , that amount that was won on the wheel during it ($80,000) , is unbreakable under normal means ( Max you can win in one S.S. is $78,000 )

The new Design for Double Prices is Alright , nothing really stood out.
If anything , we went through a Premiere Week without a Big 3 playing.

Today's show just downright blew me away!!! Of course, the makeover of Double Prices leaves a bit much to be desired, but we shouldn't be making too much a fuss about it regardless. Right now, what matters more is that this is one episode that will go down in the history books for years to come!!! For more reasons than one.  :-D

Today's show made playing hooky from work completely worth it.

I was a little nervous about Wilbert playing Race Game.  He moved like he had bad knees or something, and I was worried that he wouldn't do well.  I guess if you don't run fast, you make sure you get everything right on the first guess so you don't have to.

The second S.S. was simply epic.  One more bite of Wheaties for Zacharia on his bonus spin and he'd have etched his name in the record books even more than he already did.

All I gotta say about this ep, in the words of Heffer from Rocko's Modern Life: "That was a hoot!" I've never seen such an exciting ep of TPiR in quite a while. :D

Sure you're not thinking of that one April Fool's show, where they gimmicked the bottom half to fall off and have garbage and smoke come out of it?

The Double Prices prop with the monitor was from the 70’s Disco-themed Halloween episode. (https://youtu.be/4HuE7ezgDac)

That refurbishment certainly came out of left field, but unsurprising since everything has to look garish these days. My initial reaction was “god that is tacky,” to which my husband responded “isn’t all of it tacky?” (Yikes.) I’ll miss the “classic” style colored price tags that used to appear in many games but now only appear in 1 Right Price. At least the Super Ball!!! dollar sign is back in action... aside from the Any Number piggy bank, is this now the only set piece that features it since its removal from the wheel 9 years ago?

Holy mother of god what a show. Quite possibly the best in the entire Drew era. Like others have said, it must have been hysteria in the studio. Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t that the first triple-dollar, double double-dollar in the show’s history?

I’m a little disappointed the only “Big” game we got this week was Plinko, but happy they decided to use it to kick off the premiere. Perhaps negating the tacked-on $10K bonuses on Monday would’ve allowed for Strikes or Triple to show up at some point.

A perfect show with $80,000 won on the showcase showdown; what a hell of an episode!  Excluding more money won on the big wheel if Zacharia had landed on the 5 or contestants in the 1st showcase showdown had won money the only way it could've been better was with a DSW.  I felt the laptops in One Wrong Price had the wrong price.  Yet another lucky One Away player that got only the 1st number right and knew which ones to change.  Race Game was easy today as the TV and pool table were obviously the 2 most expensive prizes.  Even if you got tripped up by which one was more expensive it was still going to be obvious those 2 were the ones needing to be changed.  Makes you wonder now with all this money given away on the big wheel today are they going to have to wait until near the end of the season to do big money week, lol.

Words can't describe how incredible this episode was. I have to say congrats and WAY TO GO to each and every contestant who won today. And that 2nd showcase showdown? When it was all said & done, the only word I can use to describe how I felt (and still feel) is.... SPEECHLESS!!!!!! Seriously, what a freaking awesome show today!!!!!!! I'm willing to be that this episode alone (especially during this first week in the season) will probably be talked about for weeks to come!!!!!

As is usually the case, after looking at it a bit longer, I don't mind it as much. But damn was that first glance jarring.

The Double Prices prop with the monitor was from the 70’s Disco-themed Halloween episode. (https://youtu.be/4HuE7ezgDac)

It's been a while, and the video quality on that clip isn't sharp enough to make me sure, but I don't think that was a monitor. I think it was a mirrored interior, possibly with some lights sandwiched between layers of mirrors to look like they were reflecting into infinity. Although during most of that clip, all I can see is the reflection of the turntable area.

Great episode, and definitely one of if not the greatest Showcase Showdown of all time. 3 dollar wins and 2 $25,000 wins, wow!

The new Double Prices prop would be better if they kept the previous logo and they made the tags different colors. It looks too monochrome the way it is and the new logo doesn't do anything for me. I do like the dollar sign pattern background though.

I'm impressed they still know how to use the Super Ball!! dollar signs.  I like the redesign, but I think it needs a different logo.
Still prefer the black version that lasted a month or so back in 1987.

This might be the greatest post in the history of this site.
Too bad they're way more likely to chop off fun games - like Big 3 playings - than their sacred designer items.

Fun tweet from my math teacher bud Bowen Kerins regarding the wheel spins:

I get 1/400k when assessing odds of the first 5 results being dollars, when naively not considering the first spinner staying on a certain amount or higher for the first dollar. So yeah, this sounds about right. Have to include binomial distribution at the end if you're considering any 2 of the 3 getting double dollars. (http://[tweet)

Why do you even watch the show?  Nearly every time you post, no matter how good the show is, you only comment negatively.

The site censor chops the swear term for "a deuce" and replaces it with "designer accessories".

Eh, this show will affect the budget a little, but I doubt we're removing 3 Strikes from the rotation yet. After all, no dollars were hit the entire rest of the week, which is a bit unusual. I'm sure they were planning on setting aside at least 40k or so for this, and this just added a couple of cars to that. Then, we had a perfect show, but with normal budget prizes and with relatively generous setups on the whole show. Nothing they can't handle. Call me back when someone wins 220k on Cliff Hangers again...

But seriously, this show happened. And a lot had to go right despite the easier setups. One Away and Any Number weren't especially EASY, they just weren't hard but more middle-of-the-road random setups that we happened to get lucky on. We had to have a competent Race Game player - that game is never a guarantee. And then of course the Wheel craziness. Just an incredible collection of circumstances coming together.

The One Away prop didn't look right to me, wasn't there lights on it?

The lights weren't flashing when the game was won, which is unusual.

A perfect show, and $80,000 in one SCSD...oh, what a day!

Although WTH was up with the new Double Prices prop?! Might the same thing eventually come to 1 Right Price?

Well, this was one for the ages, wasn't it?  A perfect show with one horn in One Away and a perfect Race Game plus one of the craziest Showcase Showdowns I've ever seen (and on a week where such an outcome gives away $27,000 more than usual, to boot).  You really can't plan for this sort of thing -- sometimes, the show just winds up being nuts.

Incidentally, the timing on this episode was also insane.  Usually, when the second Showcase Showdown starts, there's somewhere around 7-9 of program time left.  Today, they had 13 minutes.  If I hadn't already known going in that something was going to be happening, I'd have darn well known something was going to be happening.

So...they redid Double Prices.  That's...um...that is one busy-looking podium.  I can't really complain too much about it, though, because outside of the Danger Price board (and, as Bojangles pointed out, the Any Number piggy bank), I think it's the first time they've used a Super Ball!! dollar sign since they painted the Big Wheel.  The Pricedown logo is pretty cool, too.

The new Design for Double Prices is Alright , nothing really stood out.

That may be the least accurate assessment of that prop possible.

Not likely. Knowing that the show has gone 45 seasons indecent free (Bar the exact bid showcase and rigging Plinko, but neither of those were the show's intentions),  the 1/400000ish odds are more likely.

Also, because all logic is broken now, we will see our first 50k Plinko winner soon, y/y  :-)

Anything is possible, I suppose, but my question would be a simple one:  Why??

The show has enjoyed a pretty spotless record for 45+ seasons.  Hundreds of thousands of dollars in cash and prizes are given away every week, and a few times a year, hundreds of thousands of dollars in cash OR prizes are offered up and/or given away in a single game.  Price gives away literally millions of dollars in cash and prizes every season.

If the show was caught rigging the wheel, the repercussions would be huge.  Despite being illegal to rig a game show, the negative publicity would cripple the show's popularity, and it could conceivably force Price off the air.

All this risk for what?  $80K on the big wheel?

Absolutely not. No one is likely to be that stupid, let alone multiple someones to allow such a thing.

It happened. The odds may have been fairly long, to put it mildly, but rigged? There’s nothing on which to base that.

It is possible for a contestant to memorize spin patterns and "aim" the Wheel, so something like this would have to happen eventually. But that's not rigging.

Of course, it may also be pure luck. And that's much more likely, as I highly doubt that a typical contestant would be able to focus on something like spin patterns once they're called down. If they focus on anything, it's the prices.

And as a producer, if you suspect that's the case, you do two things on all future episodes:
    1. When briefing the contestants during the break, tell them to always spin the wheel as hard as possible, and
    2. Tell the contestants that, if you think they're trying to aim the wheel, you'll have Drew tell them to spin it again.

Wheel of Fortune, I believe, does both of those (and in their case, both Chuck Woolery and Pat Sajak have been known to make contestants spin again if they thought they weren't spinning hard enough).

There's already a perfectly good rule regarding the Big Wheel.  It must go all the way around at least once.

If a player tries to finesse a spin (which I've seen MANY TIMES), then they'll either have to spin again if it doesn't go all the way around (amidst a chorus of boos), or the contestant may benefit from said spin by hitting the number they were "aiming" for.  (Or they'll lose their turn if it happened to be a bonus spin...)

Either way, we don't need more convoluted rules to govern a simple spin.  If it fulfills the required rule of "must go around at least once", then who cares if the player tried to "aim" for a number, or tried to spin the wheel off its axis.

The rigging of game shows being highly illegal aside, the Wheel's tension *is* adjustable, and we've all seen it spin very fast and loose, as well as slow and tight. So is there a known level of tension that the Wheel can be set at, that favours $1 wins, if spun with the right force?

Unless the producers can rig what the other people before them spin, I doubt that this is even plausible.

Technically, ANY level of tension favors a $1 win, if spun with the right force.

Seriously, it would be virtually impossible to "set" the tension of the wheel to favor a specific outcome because literally every contestant would spin with a different amount of force.
