Title: Alex Trebek has Stage 4 Pancreatic Cancer
Post by: Roadgeek Adam on March 06, 2019, 05:08:06 PM
Alex Trebek, the 78 year old host of J!, has announced that he has been diagnosed with Stage 4 pancreatic cancer. He vows to fight this, and I hope all the best for him, but man I don't know how I could look in a camera and say that with such professionalism.

Absolutely horrible news. I hope that one day the words "pancreatic cancer" aren't an automatic death sentence.

This is never news you want to hear, much less share, but you have to admire Alex for announcing it in this fashion, and as he said, being open and transparent about it. The point about tabloid news is well made and well taken. Major props for his courage and determination to beat it. You also have to admire how he threw in a jab about his contract, arguably helping offset the news with a bit of humor to show that determination.

/Prayers for sure.

I feel bad for Mr. Trebek about his cancer and he and his family will be in my personal prayers. I hope he can beat this even at a stage 4 but he is a fighter. It is a shock but I will still watch Jeopardy! with or without Alex there as I have with Alex for most to almost all of the 35 years it has been on the air.

Yet another reminder that cancer absolutely sucks. Mr. Trebek will be in my prayers.

This hits the game show community like a bag of bricks. Mr. Trebek is one of the most hallowed figures in the history of game shows, and this news is truly tragic. My prayers go out to Trebek and his family.

I wish Alex all the best in his fight. Hopefully he is able to indeed finish out the three years left on his contract.

Having lost my mother to cancer last year and knowing many people who fought the long hard battle, I support Alex and wish him the best in his fight.  I'd like to personally start Team Alex to show support.  Anybody who wants to join in feel free to take the image in my signature or make your own.

Just a suggestion, donate to organizations such as Memorial Sloan Kettering (https://secure2.convio.net/mskcc/site/Donation2?idb=157080228&14136.donation=form1&df_id=14136&mfc_pref=T), the Lustgarten Foundation (https://www.lustgarten.org/donate/?gclid=CjwKCAiA_P3jBRAqEiwAZyWWaHmvEg6aQxFLXlKQqWPiXQg-2k-1nz0DVR09uOT4nJomZx33nECNvRoCLXQQAvD_BwE) and the National Pancreatic Cancer Foundation (https://www.npcf.us/donate-volunteer/ways-to-donate/donate/), most importantly the third, in the name of Alex Trebek. That will do a hell of a lot more. Alex knows his fanbase is heavily impacted, as Ken Jennings stated on Twitter.

If you really want to spread the word, add the links I provided to your signature and donate.

100% agreed.  I was speaking more in terms of a "badge" of sorts.  In fact, making some modifications.  Edit:  The image is now a button.  Adam is absolutely right and I should have included something like that in the first place.

It's quite alright. Impact is more when there's something besides a badge that does really little. Get the help to where it matters. :)

Thanks for doing that.

I lost my dad to cancer in 1965, so a portion of my pay at work had always gone to the ACA. Anybody who has fought cancer and anybody still fighting it to this day are all thumbs up in my book. Here’s hoping Alex gives cancer the throttling it deserves.

Same cancer at roughly the same age that Mark Goodson dealt with.

Same cancer at roughly the same age that Mark Goodson dealt with.
Original Jeopardy host Art Fleming also died from the same cancer in 1995. Sadly he only lived for two weeks after his diagnosis. https://heavy.com/entertainment/2019/03/alex-trebek-illness-art-fleming-died-cancer/ (https://heavy.com/entertainment/2019/03/alex-trebek-illness-art-fleming-died-cancer/)

This is awful news. As someone who lost a family member to cancer, I can only imagine what the Trebek family is going through.

F#@k cancer. All of us here at Golden-Road are with you, Alex.

A few thoughts...

This is tough. this is a man i grew up watching host J!. while i think he is one of the last greats in the game show business(Sajak being the other) he is also one of the last "true" broadcasters of this era.
However, i think that i truly appreciated him when he did Concentration in the 80s. This was a show my grandmom had watched in the 60s, and to see him step into the role that Hugh Downs and Bob Clayton had made famous and do it well, impressed me greatly.
