They offered quite a bit of money but paid little of it out. Mike may very well consider that a success.

Out In Left Field / Re: Sixteen months between tape and air

We’d be going into cable here, but there was a Hawaiian-themed week of GSN’s Lingo that was taped in July 2005, but didn’t air until January 2007.

Speaking of GSN, they’ve aired a handful of previously unaired episodes of game shows over the years, the most recent example being the final two episodes of Power of 10 in 2011, over three years after they were taped. As far as possible records are concerned, I imagine that the final few weeks of Match Game ‘79 that had been shelved by CBS would be a serious contender.

The Million Dollar Spectacular that aired during season 34 was taped with the ones that aired during the previous season, so that had a long delay between tape and air also. Probably not as big of a delay as this past Match Game episode though.

Master Key should have been for $ 75,000 split into $ 25,000 chunks.....much better tension

I would argue that this layout creates LESS tension. Once I have won one prize of 25K, the balloon has been popped. While winning more would be nice, you have already released the air because I have won a "big" chunk of cash already.

And if I win 2 of the locks, then winning the top prize becomes almost a silly afterthought.

Playing Master Key for $50K, split into weird chunks, is just plain silly and demonstrates that the current producers don't understand the art of tension. There's no elegant way to have the contestant win the 30K without having the other prizes seem like afterthoughts. Winning 15K is a big deal on Price, but becomes trivial if you have already won 30K. Conversely, there is no way to win a smaller prize without having the large prize seem less attractive "hey, you won 20K already, let's see if you can win 30 more"....there's no juice there.

Sometimes I wonder if they roleplay these things before they actually implement them. Because just a few mock playings would reveal what I weak TV moment this makes for.

ABC To Tell The Truth episodes from last year were over a year from tape to air I believe.

Family Feud's episodes that air in May in the Harvey era are usually taped the previous August, and normally, I think of that as the reasonable limit for some shows that tape the entire season in the summer and air throughout the following season.

I'm laughing at the superior intellects that dreamed this up.
Very well said!

Worth noting the only full win this show was the actual true cash game. Price Gods are trying to tell Mikey something, but he won't ever listen...

The TALK Is Right / Re: Model quirks in the Carey era

I've always liked the rapport that Drew has had with the models as well as the announcers, currently George Gray.  I've enjoyed tuning into TPIR since the 1980s, and it's great to see this show still going strong for a new generation of fans.
