This is for episode 27 season 6 that premiered a day before this post (not the vintage tttt). For those who have not seen it (since it was in the opening for that episode, I do not know if this is a spoiler or not) One of the celebrities (Marion) ripped a tag off of a beanie baby during 'guessing who the beanie baby collector is' segment (spoiler , it was revealed later that it was very expensive (mult thousand dollars) when in a set with 2 others) The host promise to reimbursed the person but do you think there will be to get people for another season of to tell the truth after this, (since they ask people to entrust their stuff a lot on the show (like shoes if they were shoe design, or pancakes if they make fancy pancakes), and they may not trust the show to keep things safe after this.) definitely considering the end of the abc host ish show, and his new job on law and order, which is on a different network. I would love to hear from experience people on this, since I am not. I would post this to the all encompassing gameshow forum since this does not have to do with price is right, but that one I listed above is invite only (and I am not invited, but would be happy to be) it will be crossposted on the lesser known "Paradise" forum though. So what do you think will happened and how do you feel about it, all opinions and guesses welcome.

Wow. You don't have to collect Beanie Babies to know how horrible that was. It's a collectible, and Marlon totally messed it up by yanking the tag off that Beanie Baby. I was never that big into Beanie Babies myself, but I did follow them in their heyday, and a big part of the dolls' value comes from the tag still being attached, and to that extent they even make special tag protectors that collectors can buy in order to prevent the tags from getting creased.
The show better make that collector whole again, but Game Girl makes a very valid point that collectors of other items may be reluctant to appear on future shows if their items are going to be treated so cavalierly. Even if the Beanie Baby collector is compensated with fair replacement value for it, what if this should happen to another collectible that's very rare, so rare that those who have them don't want to get rid of them? Or, not to mention, a one-of-a-kind collectible that, in addition to book value, has great sentimental value to the collector? Yeah, the simple answer would be "don't bring it on the show," but I'm sure the producers made all sorts of promises about how they'd take care of them, handle them carefully, keep them secure, etc., and since this was ABC, there'd be a trust factor as well. I'm sure the collector cringed when the host tossed the Beanie Baby to Marlon, even without the tag being removed.
I hope this story gets out among the collecting communities - not just Beanie Babies, but everything. Even if this was just a one time, isolated incident, that's still once too many.

A celebrity being a Jack— isn’t shocking, but I’m hard pressed to imagine this is remotely something that would cause problems lining up guests in the future.

Well... yeah... if your "Truth" has something to do with what you are or what you've done. For example, if your "Truth" is that you used to be the guy in the Mickey Mouse costume at Disneyland, I can't see any reason why you wouldn't want to go on the show.
But if they came to me and said "Coinboynyc, we heard that you've got a pretty impressive collection of Bob Barker memorabilia, would you like to be a contestant and bring some of it on the show and talk about it?", having seen what they did to that poor soul's Beanie Baby, I'd pass.
-
Again, the idea this is somehow going to be widely known or cared about and thus make things remotely harder for the producers to book guests is just not realistic. In our super saturated, highly fragmented media world, this isn’t a blip on the radar. Was it inappropriate? Yes. Will it reverberate? Nope.

I wouldn't waste my time going on these kinds of shows if that's how celebrities would treat my hobby. This should be a warning to all future guests, but I seriously doubt it.
In fact, I've never understood the appeal of panel shows like To Tell the Truth, regardless of era. It's not my cup of tea. It affords celebrities more opportunities to be disrespectful tools.
-
they'll probably have the celeb in question on a blacklist for now on
-
I seriously doubt that would happen for that reason.
-
The righteous outrage is more amusing than the incident....
-
This seems totally accurate

Yeah, I’m not an executive producer/talent booker, but if I was, I’d never book Damon Wayans for the show ever again. I just watched the video and his lack of judgment is just awful. Call me self-righteous, but I’d be incensed if I had a $10,000-$20,000 collector’s item that was devalued like that, even if I was “promised” compensation for it.
-
In this case, if Anthony Anderson wants him back, you work to bring him back.
-
Then if Anthony Anderson wants his career tarnished, he won’t have to work too hard. Damon Wayans helped some, but he’s already flushed his career down the proverbial toilet here.
-
also, this shows, imo, that the modern show made it too focused on the celebs and their antics that borderline on older Harvey Feud level jokes
and how behaved the older versions' panel were for the most part (save for some comments by Bill Cullen involving birds in hand)
(edited to clarify what i was complaining about with the focus on the newer version)

Though I thought that what he did was tactless, I don’t think this is remotely the end of his career. And I do agree with imhomerjay’s point about Anderson wanting him back.
-
Nobody beyond a few people who were directly involved are going to care about this in another 2 or 3 weeks, get real.
Also I don't know why they wouldn't bring Damon Wayans on considering it was Marlon who ripped the tag off the beanie baby.

And that's how the show has done well enough to get multiple seasons on ABC. It isn't the '50s anymore and what gets viewers is different.
And I'm sorry, but if someone thinks anyone "flushed their career down the toilet" over...ripping a tag off a beanie baby....that's beyond hard to take seriously. Proverbially no one outside of a board like this cares a lick about this. They certainly aren't going to remember it, and it certainly is not going to be a factor in ABC's decision to bring the show back or not.
This whole discussion brings to mind a funny SNL skit (and not just for Lizzo almost losing it): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zatUernhzNw (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zatUernhzNw)

"Funny SNL skit" is an oxymoron

Well, maybe insurance might care I do not know how thay do it is to tell the truth but ya it might be a problem (I remember reading price is right had a problem after the 'million dollar spectacular' with "prize insurance". and I know many collectors have insurance on their objects that might threaten to drop coverage of contestants going on the show due to risk . (I know I made the thread, but I want to give other people chances to respond before I give my own, as I want to hear other people responses, and not just peoples opinions about my response.) I am not sure at all the caveats but that's just a possibility I am entertaining.

On a different note about the comment from GRWHAMMY the 2nd.I think jokes are ok sometimes. (sometimes it is a distraction if it goes to long and way too off-topic and we here almost nothing) I like this version, I made this to see if longer time fans who have seen many shows come and gone would have any idea if they think the show will have another season. but a buzzer system like the old version would likely be a good idea to avoid the problem sometimes of one person talking over and we do not hear anyone else. I also was wondering if this was more of a final nail in the coffin situation. being as I listed in the beginning he is going on law and order, (i've seen him in ads on the network airing law and order) and leaving the 'ish' franchise. I also was curious if tttt was on the verge of ending due to this and this even if it were not usually end a show. keeping me a joke 'last season' about him doing the show because 'ish' does not film all year around. I would hate for it to be cancelled like card sharks last year, since they were similar speculation on the game show form too about the hosts other commitments for that card sharks too). (though it is strange, considering McHale was even on this particular episode mentioned here, meaning he must still have a relationship with abc.)

Not in the least. They produce great work.

This cannot be stated enough -- while Wayans deserves much scorn for doing what he had done, it was Anderson who had nonchalantly tossed a rather high-value collectible in his direction as if it had been a dollar-store trinket.

Indeed. And while people like to hammer on "newer is better" and "stop living in the past", I would bet my house that none of Bud Collyer, Garry Moore, Bill Cullen, Joe Garagiola, Alex Trebek, Mark Goodson, or any other competent host of TTTT would have ever treated something a guest brought with them with such blatant disrespect.

Honestly, I think Anthony Anderson is competent enough, but not nearly on the level of the other hosts.
-
And now we enter the “you young whippersnappers get off my lawn!” portion of the chat. 🤣

Anderson lacks the competence of nearly every past host. Unfunny, obnoxious, and has a habit of stealing the spotlight from the contestants or bringing it to the other celebrities and his mother. I understand that there are people who like his brand of comedy, but it's a poor fit for a game show. And this incident should make people think twice about who they'd want to share the stage with. Speaking of which...
And now we enter the “you young whippersnappers get off my lawn!” portion of the chat. 🤣
The portion I'm thinking of is "this thread needs to be locked because we can't seem to have a civil discussion about celebrities being pompous jackweeds".

He revived the show to be exactly what it is, more comedic. The golden oldies days had their time. That’s not what they’re going for, and this version has done perfectly well enough for itself and ABC. He’s perfectly competent at doing his show his way.
-

I would similarly bet that a number of the regular or frequent panelists of prior eras would not have ripped off the tag, or performed an equivalent move to a high-value item.
The closest similarity I am aware of is from an episode of the 2000 series which had the founder of a PEZ museum as a subject. The top-front of the panel desk (the portion where the voting cards were placed) was lined with PEZ dispensers, and at the point where Paula Poundstone cast her vote (as can be seen here (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fYzy0VA0fpM&t=7m3s)) she began knocking over some of the dispensers. In her words, it was to see which of the challengers would react the most to her doing so. However, in this instance the PEZ dispensers look to have been common models one could have purchased practically anywhere at the time.

$5 says that come summer of 2022, none of this will even be in our heads (or whenever next season is, if not next EPISODE)
-
Of course not. It’s not in the head of anyone anywhere outside of about three people as it is now. It’s not a “thing.”
-
I had forgotten that To Tell The Truth got renewed until this thread was posted.

There's also Robin Ward.
