Title: tpiradam's The Price is Right - Canadian Edition (THE END)
Post by: tpiradam on July 31, 2019, 07:13:21 PM
Hello all! I am so excited that HYO has resumed. I've spent some time toying with multiple ideas for a show but I figure for it's return I'll start with a 'basic' one-hour show. Extravagant prizes and lots of glitz and glamour! The vast majority of prices are in Canadian dollars. Sign ups will commence now and close up Sunday evening with the show beginning on Monday the 5th. I need at least nine people to sign up. The contestant selection process will go as follow. I'd like you to tell me which game you think you'd excel at and why. I'm looking for more than 'Double Prices because its 50/50', I'm looking for substance. Now for the rules:

- 24hr response time limit. If you are unable to respond within this time limit please let me know and I will wave the penalty. Otherwise a failure to respond will result in a penalty.
- Audience participation is definitely allowed; however I would prefer that the candor be a little more calmer. No heckling from the audience please!

I will PM when you are called on down. After that you are on your own to keep track of when it's your turn to bid and onstage and so on. I'm hoping for a fun and exciting show and that everyone has a ton of fun! This could be the start of the rebirth of a fun and successful HYO career :)

I believe I would do best at 1/2 Off. I could easily judge the 1/2 off price from the actual price on each pair of SPs, and, for as long as I can remember, I have had a knack for picking the right box in the main game.

I believe I would excel at Hole in One-- I can do at least reasonably well placing the groceries in order from least to most expensive and I am very good with putting straight.

Canada, eh?  :-D And you know I'm in!  :-)

As for a game I think I'd excel at? Probably That's Too Much. It sounds peculiar, I know, but the main thing you need to know in this admittedly tough game is a general idea of car prices and where you typically have to stop (3rd to 8th spots). Since I spend way too much time looking for car prices, I think I could win this game if it came up. Call me crazy.  ;-)

I would go for Card Game. Yet if I would stumble upon getting the $1000 card I would really need to zero in on getting close to the price of the car there. Of course it has to be at least $999 away from the price of the car. Hopefully the temples in my brain can do wonders with that! I wonder if my eyes and/or eyebrows can do as well?! Weird? Yes! Yet you never know! Lol!

I'd be down to join. Who doesn't like Canada?

If I had to choose one game, it would have to be Bonkers. Do I know the last digit in the price of a Ski-Doo? Absolutely not. But the game does a great job of combining two of my best skills. My short distance speed would get me a good amount of guesses and my uncanny ability to be completely ignorant would mean that I wouldn't look at the crowd even once.  :-D

I'll throw my hat into the ring!

A game I would certainly excel at would be Superball. I definitely have a grasp of the prices of the small prizes, and I am really good at skeeball. Sure, it's retired in the US, but that doesn't mean it can't show in the Canadian version!

One game I think I would excel at (and have actually mostly excelled at while playing along at home) is Triple Play, not necessarily due to the gameplay itself, but more due to having extensive knowledge of the base prices of the cars they’ve been using for this game, along with the (to me) easy setups they’ve been using for the last several years with $2,000+ gaps between each fake price.  If I remember correctly, I’ve been able to "win" each car with nearly 100% accuracy.

One game I think I will excel at is Grand Game. I play along with the show and usually win 95% of the time.

Well, I am Canadian so I guess I should partake here.

I think I'd be good at Clock Game. I'm a fast talker when I want to be and could probably rattle off prices at a good speed.

$5,198! JayC that’s you! Come up here on stage!

Welcome on stage JayC! Now we couldn’t think of any better way to kick this show off than taking a trip down the Golden Road! It all begins with this single beefsteak tomato which leads on to this:...

Announcer: A new fireplace!

This Cole Electric Media Fireplace will keep your room nice and toasty while housing your television and has shelving for books or movies!

Now as you know from there we continue on down the Golden Road to something bigger and better, like this!:...

Announcer: A new ring!

From the Neiman Marcus catalogue the David Yurman Custom Albion Ring makes a big statement and is sure to catch the eye of everyone as you walk into the room!

And that’s not all! As you know at the end of the Golden Road we always have something exquisite! Something extravagant! And today is no exception! Today at the end of the Golden Road we have a prize that is more than $98,000! Let’s see what it is!!!:...

Announcer: A new BMW convertible!!!

The 2019 BMW M4 Cabriolet! Comes with standard equipment, Sakhir Orange Metallic II, Premium Package and Driver Assistance Package, the BMW M4 Cabriolet!

That tomato is 52 cents. Let’s head over to that fireplace.

In the price the last two numbers are 3 and 0. The first number is either a 5 or a 2. What do you say?

He says it’s a 5 and it is...

*dingdingding*

A 5! $530. You’ve won that and now we go on further down the Golden Road to this ring.

In the price of the ring there are four numbers but one is missing. Using the numbers in the price of the fireplace tell us is that missing number a 5, a 3 or a 0?

Post by: tpiradam on August 07, 2019, 11:34:45 AM
Ok. He’s going with a 3.

If it’s a three you’ll go on further to play for that BMW!

It is...

*dingdingdingdingdingdingdingding*

A three! Let’s go get that BMW! Five numbers in the price.

Look at that. $98,000+! That missing number. Is it the 6, the 3, the 0 or the 9 that goes in that space?
Title: Re: tpiradam's The Price is Right - Canadian Edition (PG 1)
Post by: tpir04 on August 07, 2019, 12:44:10 PM
I would recommend the 0. Maybe it's just a coincidence, but the correct missing number for each prize would make up the price of the fireplace, $530.
Title: Re: tpiradam's The Price is Right - Canadian Edition (PG 1)
Post by: DarkShockBro on August 07, 2019, 01:56:41 PM
I disagree. I’d go 6.

Title: Re: tpiradam's The Price is Right - Canadian Edition (PG 1)
Post by: JayC on August 07, 2019, 03:57:25 PM
This is a tough call-- I'm ruling out 3 since it was the correct number for the last prize, and 9 would be repeating. That leaves 6 and 0, tpir04 has a good point about the 0, but 6 looks good in the price too.

I'm going to go with... 0. Hoping tpir04's hunch is correct!
Title: Re: tpiradam's The Price is Right - Canadian Edition (PG 1)
Post by: tpiradam on August 07, 2019, 10:07:28 PM
Alright. If it’s a 0 you are the owner of a brand new BMW convertible.

I can just see you whipping around town now!

You like orange right? It’s a beautiful colour on a car.

That number is!...

Aww it was a three! No convertible for you but you did win those other prizes and you’ll have a shot at our Showcase Showdown!

It might be a clear and obvious trap I'm falling into here, but I'd pick the vase next. A vase can't possibly be that much, right?

I'd then avoid the TV, but it is a tossup between tv/sofa for me. Good luck though.

Oh no! The sofa was $3,500! Let's take a look at what he should've picked:

You needed the TV and the vase for the win. I'm sorry DarkShockBro. Perhaps you'll get it back at the Showcase Showdown which is coming up right after this!...

Here we are with the first Showcase Showdown of the day! Each of you will spin the wheel. The one who gets closest to 1.00 without going over in one spin or a combinations of two spins will be in the Showcase at the end of the show. If you should be so fortunate as to get the 1.00 in one or a combination of two spins you will receive a $1,000 bonus! In that bonus spin if it lands in the 5 or 15 you win $10,000 BUT if you get that 1.00 in your bonus spin you will win $25,000!

Here's how the Showcase Showdown will play out. Numbers 1-20. Pick two numbers and tell me what amount you'd stop on in your first spin. One number correlates to two values for example 1 could equal 90 in spin #1 and 95 in spin #2 so it is possible to pick the same number for both of your spins if you choose to do so. The numbers have been matched to a value and cu has a copy of the numbers just in case anyone has any rifts about what they picked etc...

1st:  DarkShockBro: ($3,589)
2nd: priceguy:         ($5,878)
3rd: JayC:              ($12,037)

Go like $26 or $27. I know a Funko figure is normally something like $12.50 in the US. I don't know the conversion from Canadian to American, but I would assume it is something close to the lower end, while allowing for leeway just in case prices skyrocket in Canada.

The 2019 Volvo S90 Inscription T8 eAWD! Comes with standard equipment plus these options!: Onyx Black Metallic, 20" 10-spoke Silver Diamond Cut Alloy Wheels, Amber Nappa Leather Seating, Luxury Package, Premium Package, Rear Air Suspension, Bowers & Wilkins Premium Sound System and Graphical Heads Up Display, the Volvo S90!

Isn't that a beautiful car?! It will be yours if you do not strike out. You're playing 3 Strikes!

The numbers in the price of the car are 2, 5, 6, 8 and 9. And of course we have to put that dreaded strike in the bag. I'll mix them up and you'll reach in and hopefully pull out a number and tell us where it belongs in the price of the car. If you pull that strike out of the bag three times it's game over, no car for you, but we hope that won't happen. Reach into that bag and pull out a number!

So, I'm pretty sure I know the price now. Not much I can do but hope that the assumptions I made were right and I don't strike out.

I'll stick to the 1 train.

(And to speed things up, regardless of result, I'm just going to draw another 1.)

Here we are with our second Showcase Showdown. I have three contestants who won their way up on stage and are trying to score a little bit of cash as well as a coveted spot in out Showcase. GameShowFan9001, step over there and give that wheel a spin!

Same as before. Two numbers, 1-20, as well as what number you'll stay at. When it comes to the second and third spinners I'll need more than beating their score in case the prior spinner goes over.

5

a 5. So close to that dollar. Here goes his second spin just as good as the last. Will it produce a bigger score?...

15

Not quite. 5 and 15 is 20. 123123123 all you need to do is beat a 20 and the way things have gone today it wouldn't surprise me if 20 wins it.

Peanut gallery: the Premier is the highest trim of the Volt, over $40k in the US I believe before all those options.  The Bolt I believe starts at somewhere around $35k before options in the US, so in the US this would easily be an $80k to $90k showcase or more due to all those options (or very possibly over $100,000).  Add in the fact that this is in Canadian dollars (and the fact that there’s also a trip to Paris, probably well over $10,000 in Canada), and I think you have a showcase well into the 6 figures.  I’d personally go no less than $130,000 or $140,000, and even that is probably pretty conservative.

*awakes from sleep*

Huh? What? Oh, my turn? Wait...what happened? Last thing I remember is spinning a dollar on the wheel...must've dozed off. What's that? #9821 had a heartbreaking 3 Strikes loss? Well, that's too bad.

*Drags myself to showcase podium; yawns*

Awfully nice showcase you got there. My bid? Hmm...I'll pass it back to Numbers. Oh, I can't? Dang. Well, I trust the peanut gallery with car prices, so with the $USD to $CAD conversion, I'll say $123,123.
