When Master Key is played I never heard the announcer mention the total retail price of the the car or the other prizes offered since the contestant doesn't have to guess those prices?  Does anyone else noticed it or know why?  These are usually mentioned in these games like Hole In One and Spelling Bee.

I hereby say that Pocket Change is Drew's worst game at hosting. He is always down during the game.

I found this hilarious. I loved the way she snuck back and just took a peek at all of the prices. Maybe Drew will stop forgetting to flip all the prices down from now on.

When Master Key is played...  Does anyone else noticed it or know why?

They just don't want to. They never have in this game, and despite our repeated cries, they never will.

Aside from One Wrong Price, this was a pretty good selection of games.

Master Key: Really nice, and suspense was built well! 10/10
Range Game: So close... that was definitely set up to be lost, though. 8/10
Make Your Move: At first I thought this was a tough set-up, but looking at it again, it was pretty obvious, really... 7.5/10
One Wrong Price: Eh... 7/10
Pocket Change: This was actually really awesome because of how horribly played it was. Has anyone else noticed that whenever 5 is part of the set-up here, contstants seem to guess it for almost every single number? 8/10
Grand Game: Did not expect that loss so quickly... tough set-up. 7.5/10
Showcase 1: Perfectly acceptable. 9/10
Showcase 2: Seriously - they are relying WAY too much on trips. Although the presentation was mostly fine. 7.5/10
Drew: Very good, except for Pocket Change. That game seems to really frustrate him. 8/10

72.5/90 - 81% - B-

Always like to see Master Key show up, but it just doesn't feel right when Big Banana isn't played. Seems odd that they haven't played it yet this season as it is one of the best cues on the show.

Actually I think they used to say the total prize package value in master key, but I thought I read somewhere that they didn't feel it was necessary so they stopped doing it.  Someone correct me if I am wrong.

I hereby say that Pocket Change is Drew's worst game at hosting. He is always down during the game.

You would be too if every contestant wound up with at least $1.50 to overcome and only one out of umpteen-million chances to hit the $2 card.

This was set up nicely, but no luck with the contestants. (Besides the complete doofus that played in Crazy Rachel's Car Lot.)

Drew's butchering of the game's rules preceeded this particular contestant's ineptitude.

I'd thnk the odds of finding that $2 card on one pick are far better than one in "umpteenth million." Not even close.

One in 20 on the first pick, that's certain. One in whatever's left thereafter, assuming it's still available.

Master Key: This is the second time this season someone's found both the middle prize key AND the Master Key. Has that ever happened before?

Range Game: For a hovercraft!? A $17,000+ one at that!? Too bad he fell short of it.

Make Your Move: As soon as she moved the spa all the way to the beginning, I knew she blew it.

One Wrong Price: I thought it was the Shaved Ice Cart too. Guess not. *shrugs*

Pocket Change: Why oh why oh why does he insist on picking a 5 for EVERY NUMBER!?  :headbang: Crazy Rachel just can't seem to sell a car lately.

Grand Game: I knew she blew it on the block of cheese. Those things are never cheap... unless they're store brand. But I got a kick out of her curiosity wanting to reveal the remaining prizes. :D

Showcases: About a $400 difference separating their difference totals!? For a second, I thought Joshua had it, but it turned out to be Kelly that had it.

First of all, I'm 99% sure this episode wasn't 4861K.  They changed the graphics for Rich's calldown window, and that's something that doesn't usually happen in the middle of a taping day (4855K was an early taping).  I'd wager that they've jumped ahead for this week of broadcasts and that we'll pick back up with week 4 next week.

Master Key still doesn't sound right without The Big Banana.

Drew's buildup to Range Game...well, it wasn't bad, but it made it sound like it was going to be a three-car day.

Pocket ¢hange was played pretty darn badly.  I can understand guessing the 5 for the last number, but for every spot?

Who else thought of Press Your Luck when the trip to Lake Powell was revealed?

Nobody else has mentioned the elevated car podium in Master Key...the latest set piece to be adorned with the squares motif.  I like the decoration using squares pattern, but it doesn't need to be everywhere on the set...

Speaking of sets, one thing I've noticed lately that's starting to bug me. The blue/purple diamond backdrops that were used behind the plasma screens in today's second showcase. These are nice designs, but I noticed that today was easily the 11th episode in a row that they've used these particular backdrops, especially with trip showcases.  I understand the need to have a backdrop behind the plasma monitors, but I know there has to be some other backdrops in storage somewhere.  This set of backgrounds has been used waaaay too much lately, and frequently without other set decorations (other than a couple plants) that would break up the monotony. </rant>

What is with this stream of contestants constantly playing Pocket Change so horribly?!? The last three times I've seen this game played, the contestant has gotten the price of the car to $1.50 or more.  Today was the first time I can ever recall seeing the price of the car at $2.00...Picking the 5 at some point was a given, but it was obviously not the second number...

I thought it was hilarious that Maria went and peeked at the remaining Grand Game prices while Drew was plugging PIR.com. Even more interesting was the fact that Maria was shown revealing all four prices before the fade to commercial.  It seems Drew has forgotten to do a couple of reveals in the sixth game lately, worrying too much about getting the website plug in...

Master Key: Stan really needs to use the Big Banana again. It just sounds weird without it. I also noticed that the car podium now has the blue squares on it. (It probably did the last time and I just didn’t notice it.) It’s nice that the master key was picked twice in a row.

Range Game: Tough loss.

Make Your Move: $178 for the hot tub? That led to the obvious loss.

OWP: I actually thought it was the entertainment equipment.

Pocket ¢hange: Not too often we see $2.00 for the car.

Grand Game: I enjoyed that she did the final reveals while Drew was plugging priceisright.com.

Showcases: Decent showcases.

Decent show today. Drew needs to work on Pocket Change some more. Other than that, he was pretty solid today.

Not too much to say about this one.

-Key: Some good luck going so far. 9/10
-Rangey: Almost had it, dangit!! 8/10
-MYM: If something had to be cheap, it was the juicer not the inflatable pool. 7/10
-SD1: 4/5
-OWP: Were Kev & I the only ones to figure this out? Probably. 8/10
-Pocket: What is with the incredibly bad luck we've been having on this game? 8/10
-Grandy: Thanks for the reveals, Maria. Random cheese el fail. 8/10
-SD2: 4/5
-SC1: Splendido-car el fine. 4.5/5
-SC2: Disguised frats el no fine. 4/5
-Results: The battle of the GOTCs resulted in no car... aww. 6.5/10
-Drew: Haircut? 8/10

PGs: 48/60
SDs: 8/10
SCs: 15/20
Drew: 8/10

79 --> C+

Master Key was the same old mixed bag:  cue fail, but a win with the master key.

$178 for a spa?!  Are you kidding me?!  Make Your Move should not have been lost that way.  Even 17 / 8998 / 544 would've been a reasonable guess.

Pocket Change... <sigh>®.  One of the worst playings I have ever seen.  Even casual viewers should know by now that if the 5 is offered, DON'T PICK IT!

Holy crap!  That was some expensive cheese!

Thank you, Maria, for revealing the prices when Drew wouldn't.

Who else thought of Press Your Luck when the trip to Lake Powell was revealed?

I know you don't come to chat anymore, but I immediately went into my Peter Tomarken impression upon the presentation of the Lake Powell trip.  I even announced the 1984 price of the trip.  I'll be interested to see how much the Lake Powell trip is 25 years later.

My showcase bids:
Mustang--$32,107
Trips--$20,107

I thought it was sad that the host couldn't even reveal the rest of the prices, and the contestant had to take it upon herself to see what she should've picked. It's always bothered me when Drew skips revealing the whole game.

I have no problem with Asheville, but we've got more than that to offer here in this fine state, so I wish that TPIR would mix it up when offering trips to North Carolina. The Outer Banks would make a very nice vacation spot.

One Bid 1: Yes, let's start the day by bidding 1.

Master Key: Oh, now I see the "modified" sign. Yay for the Master Key!

Range Game: I had a feeling Ackley stopped it just too soon...

Make Your Move: I just could not see a trip to Madrid costing 1789 or the Comfort Spa costing 178. So basically said the juicer was 17, but was not locked on anything else.

One Wrong Price: I thought that home gym was $1995. WRONG.

Pocket ¢hange: Boy, that was a tough one. Picking 5 when it never should have been picked was hard.

Grand Game: Boy, that was a lot of cheese for that cheese. I LOLed at Maria's peekings.

Showcases: Because of Kelly's Showcase, I wanted, or had to put up a couple of episodes of PYL on YouTube that reflected on a certain prize...

How many contestants have selected the $2.00 card?  What's the largest deficit amount that they have had to overcome by accumulating enough change?  I have seen a few instances of $1.75.

Okay, .... I'm a long time Drew supporter, but even I have to admit that he needs to get on the ball with the reveals.   He does seem to be slipping on the sixth game lately, and it probably is the PIR.COM plug.  But, I was mortified for him when Maria was seen going along behind him doing the reveals.  He had to feel bad when he turned around and saw her doing his job.  Come on Drew, I love ya, but remember us viewers at home (and the audience) want to see the reveal, and the finish of the game.  Other than that, not a bad show.

They could just rerun week 3 in the morning at the beginning of December.

Personally, I'd gladly take an extra week of reruns early in the year if it means the summer reruns not starting until the end of June.

The contestant doing the reveals on Grand Game was funny to watch, but I felt bad and embarrassed for Drew. Other than that, not much worth noting here, except for the sudden return of a couple of long-lost prizes, the ever-popular HoverJet and shaved ice wagon. We are way way too due for a $2.00 card to be drawn in Pocket.

Timings:
Master Key (5) - 4:54
Range Game (4) - 3:48
Make Your Move (4.5) - 3:59
One Wrong Price (3.5) - 3:28
Pocket Change (5) - 5:26
Grand Game (5) - 4:17
Total time (27): 24:52

I'm always two or three days behind watching the show, so I'm always surprised when I notice something that no one else has seen and posted, but this was so obvious, I'm stunned I'm the first one to comment on this:

During the second showcase, during the trip reveals, when Lake Powell is introduced, Rachel is standing by the front of the three monitors, and that's where Lake Powell is. When they cut back from the trip view, she's standing beside the back monitor, and walks forward to the middle monitor. Either she ran back to the third monitor during the cutaway, or they refilmed this in post and edited together poorly. Either way, it looked bad.

They did this same thing with an all-trip showcase last week. Rachel more than likely did just walk to the furthest back screen during the description, which wouldn't require any editing in post.

I thought it looked fine. A neat way to display the trips.

This was the show I saw in studio. It was the early taping of 21 September 2009. (Which is why I missed the 'Most Expensive' playing with the three video screens of the premiere.) They told us the tape number and airdate in studio, in fact, they did one better:

(anybody here look familiar? Irene was the bidder Joshua kept one-upping.)

Each person waiting to get into the studio gets a photos in front of one of three backdrops: 'Pl!nko', 'Cliff Hangers', or 'The Big Wheel'. Adam Sandler, introduced as a producer of 'Price', came out to tell us about it personally, since it was the first time these have been used. Once your (or your group's) photo is taken, you're given a card with the url priceisright.com/fanphotos (http://www.priceisright.com/fanphotos). Your photo number corresponds to your OoA number. You can download a low-res version of your picture for free for a limited time, or you can pay to have it printed or plastered on all sorts of things to commemorate your day at Studio 33.

I hadn't intended on giving a full report of the show, because members of the staff are lurkers, and I want to get on the show someday. But I do want to share a few things:
The taping was very much as you saw it on air. Very little was cut.

Whew. That was a few more things than I thought!

Oh yeah, there's a couple more:

It's amazing, but it was a head rush of about an hour or an hour and twenty minutes we were in studio. We exited and the next group of contestants were all lined up and ready to be interviewed for the second taping of the day.

Believe it or not, it's still a well-oiled machine.

Overall, I came away with this:
It was disappointing that only one game was won, but the lineup was good, the showcases were okay, and there were enough lights and it was loud enough that if I weren't paying attention, I wouldn't have known these things. I think that's the new MO of the Carey era.

Thanks for reading this far if you made it.

Eh, don't worry about it.

Quote
I left the studio hoarse. (But you wouldn't know it by watching the episode; things are leveled out quite well.)
I once sat for five tapings in three days.  You don't know hoarse.  :P

Master Key: It just isn't right without Big Banana.  I like the new car platform.

Make Your Move: Not very smart for making the spa $1xx.  If it was going to be lost, it shouldn't have been lost that way.

Pocket Change: That bloody 5 just would not go Sean's way.
