I'm afraid to say it, but rob79 ended up being right - we ended up with a whimper of a month here overall.

-Lineup: Meh.
-Grandy: I knew that Gold Bond was low. Apparently a tough setup since everyone else in chat said conditioner. 8/10
-OA: This should have come down to only two choices, but the Peanut Gallery led her away from 22k. 7/10
-Freezy: Too many possibilities here to narrow it down, especially when he didn't know how much Spain was. 7/10
-SD1: This was...odd. 4/5
-Eazy: I didn't think that little stepper was so much. 9/10
-Squeezy: Easy. 9/10
-Bonus: Why did they put it behind the easiest SP? It was a big prize package and there were clearly some evil SPs. 9/10
-SD2: 4/5
-SC1: ...I'm not exactly thrilled by mansions, sorry. Maybe that's just me. 3/5
-SC2: Kinda liked the variety. Doughboy is a throwback to one point this season... 4.5/5
-Results: Blah-ish. Nice try on 2. 8.5/10
-Drew: French absolute fail! 5/10

PGs: 49/60
SDs: 8/10
SCs: 16/20
Drew: 5/10

78 --> C+

See everyone on 9/18.

While it was nice to see Bonus Game, and there were some noticeably easier set-ups today, this didn't really feel like a season finale.

No showcase car, none of the "Big 3," nothing that really made it feel like a special show.

Aside from the stupidity of the "French accent" thing, Drew was pretty good.

Here's hoping for a much better season 38!

Alright, Drew doing the funny accent before the 2nd IUFB price reveal was funny.  Tomato me if you want, but I laughed, especially at the last "EES!"

The show had its ups and downs.
- One Away: Drew accidentally pronounced the French word for 4 as "kwah-truh." And made some racist ugly jokes about berets and baguettes. Ewwwwww!
- Freeze: Yeah, I agree, too many possibilities. $5000 or $8000? How should we know?
- Eazy: I agree with the name of the game -- it was (waz?) very eazy. Bravo.
- Squeezy: Glad to see this played for a car again. I generally find games played for a hot tub / bedroom / whatever a little boring.
- Bonus: I liked Craig, who is the first contestant I've ever seen from outside of North America.
- SC1: Mansions... wouldn't it get a little bland after a while?
- SC2: This is the season finale, and still no car. Ouch. But Robert was a cool contestant and all, so I can't degrade this show too much.

Pattern: LLLWWW
Items Won: Eazy Az 1 2 3 prizes (stepper, etc.), 1 car, hot tub, barbecue, 3 mansion stays
Noland's Review: 77% - YELLOW

We had some disappointing losses to start, but finishing up with some wins was very good to see. Those wins include the splendid wins in Squeeze Play and Bonus Game. Here's to an exciting Season 38 in the fall.

No showcase car, none of the "Big 3," nothing that really made it feel like a special show.

Historically, the season finale has rarely contained a playing of one of the "Big Three" games.  However, it was certainly unfortunate to not end the season with a showcase car...

Bonus Game was screaming to be won.  No way you're going to get a rice cooker for less than $12.  This, I feel, was one of Drew's better hostings of the game.  They finally got the turntable reveal right--now if only Drew would describe the game before they reveal the bonus prize just like in the old days...

I just want to say one thing and I think I'm in the minority here. I loved the French part during IUFB 2. It certainly made me laugh and made that part of the show enjoyable. I don't like the game selection however. The same old pricing games we've seen for a long time. Eazy, Freeze, and Squeeze don't make the show that great. Showcases also don't have a car. Not the best show to have. See you at the end of the summer.

Hey, only positive things ahead for Season 38. I know that Season 37 was, well, mixed ... but at least Drew goes out on the up-and-up as far as his second full season as host is concerned.

One-Bid #2 & OA:  This entire segment had me yelling, "What the French?!"  The overuse of the French accent was so not funny.  And OA should not have been lost on the second attempt.  There were only two possible prices for the Honda Accord--$22,684 and $22,864.

SCSD #1:  Quite possibly the most heartbreaking series of SCSD spins in a very long time.

Eazy:  Enough of the French, Drew!

Squeezy Plus:  Kathy must've been in a good mood today.  That was practically a forced win.

Bonus:  Yay!  Bonus Game! :P With the classic reveal! :P With a $10,000+ prize package up for grabs, Kathy putting the "BONUS" behind the easiest item (rice cooker) proved that she was in a really good mood today.  Roger would've put the "BONUS" behind either the overpriced PA system or the overpriced webcam.

My showcase bids:
Mansions--$20,007
Room/waverunner--$23,507 ( :dsw: )

Maybe my expectations were too high, but I thought we might get a tad better lineup than what we saw today....

...Grand Game first--BLAH (great game, but it's been first too often this year)
The millioneth playing of Eazy az 1-2-3
yada yada yada....

...however Bonus Game last is certainly an awesome way to send us off into summer (why in the world are they waiting on airing the true season finale????)

Even better was we got the classic reveal!!!! Thank you DiPirro!!!!!

On the negative side, I really thought we might see one of the games that have "disappeared" today like Credit Card, Take Two, Shopping Spree, Step Up, Make Your Mark, Clearance Sale, etc....Maybe, just maybe we'll see one of them on the "true" season finale come Sept. 18th, but i'm not going to be holding my breath.

French Drew worked... eventually.  It got old fast, but then the joke boomeranged back when Amanda said she had just come back from a stay in France, which practically forced French Drew to come back.  Amanda herself was an excellent fun contestant as well, and played off Drew well, French and all, and she really helped make the segment work.

The Bonus Game bonus was obviously going to be in the first or third window today, wasn't it?

I too wish one of those had been played. But, even under Roger, those kind of games were rarely played on season finales or premieres. More familiar games like Plinko, Lucky 7, and like we saw today, Grand Game and One Away, are usually played on season-ending shows.

So what's the reasoning behind that?

It has something to do with the fact that they're doing some kind of special showcase that day, but I wonder what could possibly be worth delaying a show's airdate by sixty days, unless it has something to do with Door #5.  (My prediction:  a "Too many prizes for the house" showcase).  Then again, might also be nice if they did what Jeopardy did a few years ago and show us a high-speed montage of the old set being struck and the new one going up.  Probably never gonna happen though.

I wouldn't ever expect anything special out of a season closer. Aside from Bob's last show, every season finale I can remember has been just another episode, with no special mention of it being the season finale, or nicer-than-normal prizes, or especially playings of any particular games. Just a very ordinary episode. Under Drew it might be different, but I definitely wouldn't hold my breath for any of the MIA games to show up. I honestly don't have any expectation of seeing them ever again.

Grand Game: The Gold Bond really faked me out as well.

OB #2: Lose the French accent Drew.

One Away: I knew she should have changed the last 3 numbers.

Freeze Frame: Tough loss.

SCSD #1: That was rough SCSD.

Eazy az 123: Why not Clearance Sale, or any of the other missing MP’s?  Again, lose the French accent Drew.

Squeeze Play: Nice win.

Bonus Game: Always a pleasure to see Bonus Game show up!  :-D At least they made this game winnable, even with some evil SP’s.

Showcase #1: FRATs, complete with stays in…mansions?

Showcase #2: Decent showcase. I would have liked to see a car myself.

O.K. show today. The lineup was all right, but made a vast improvement with Bonus Game. If they were going to play a non-car game for a car, I personally would have preferred to see this game played for one.

Not too bad of a show today, but it was pretty standard. But that's expected, as this isn't the true season finale. Well guys, we are now finished until September. The 18th to be exact, when the true season 37 finale will be. Unfortunately I wasn't able to make it into chat for today's episode, so I might as well say what I wanted to say here, no? ;) It's been fun in chat with all of you throughout the season, and we'll definitely do it again come September. From now until then, I'll be taking a couple steps back from active duty here. I wish all of you here on G-R a safe and happy Summer, and we can all look forward to a whole new season of fun this fall. See ya in the fall!

Keep it cool, and keep moving forward. -Jay "Spyne" Hart

Wow I didn't realize today was the season finale! I'm kinda surprised at the amount of people who thought today's show was kind of blah. I can agree with you all on the lineup, but I didn't think it was that bad. Drew was very funny with that accent. Did anyone notice Drew kept having senior moments through the last four segments? At first in Bonus Game he was throwing to Rich to describe the small prizes. Luckily the staff knew he meant the bonus prize. Then he kept saying through the SS and Showcases that the contestant who played it was the biggest winner all day, when he in fact was not.

It was nice to see One Away, but a much better game to play would've been Dice Game.

It sure was nice to see Bonus Game pop its head in one last time before the end of the season. The SPs were kind of tricky but at least he got 3 out of 4, including the one that had the bonus.

I have to admit that even though this season was quite disastrous, it sure went quick! I for one can't wait though until Season 38 because I want to see the new turntable.

But at least A car is won today.

And about Drew's French accent, not very practical, but big 10 points for style.

Yeah...once again, Drew did a good job.  I don't expect it to continue -- I've learned better than that over the course of this season -- but there's certainly no reason not to enjoy it while it lasts.  The various changes going on -- even the long list of games that are probably going to wind up retired -- would be a lot easier to tolerate if he could just host like this all the time.

I agree about Drew's hosting. But, we don't know that any of these games are going to be officially retired, except probably Bargain Bar. That said, while they may not officially retire them, it's smart to assume that at least some of these games will still just be ignored.

The games at this point are most likely going to go away as I don't really see them pulling them out again. Some games got played once. They aren't retired, but I don't see them bring them out for Season 38. If they do, I will be happy.

Grand: Count me in as another who went with the Aussie Hair Conditioner. Darn it!!  :-(

One Away: I went with $22864!!! The audience stuck their ugly suggestions out again.

Freeze: Too bad.

Easy: Very nice.

Squeeze: I had a hunch the 0 was the one that needed to go, too. Fred and I had it altogether. Great win.  :-)

Bonus: DiPirro strikes gold again!!!! The full reveal shot!!! LET'S HEAR IT!!!! (Crowd goes wild) :-) :-D :D  Kathy sure was on the nice side with that sweet setup. Great win.

Showcases: Even with stays in mansions, This FRAT showcase was still boring. Once again, our minds were bowled over when a little-a** waverunner was in place where there should've been a HUGE Motorboat in showcase #2. Way to go, Airheads!!  :-(

A 3-star show.

Well, The 18th of September will give us the TRUE season finale. I'm in no rush to wait!! Happy Summer, Y'all!!!

5-digit Squeeze Play:  All right, gave away a car today - nice! :-)
Bonus Game:  Nice to see this one again.  I thought Drew did a good job hosting this one.
Showcases:  How the heck are you supposed to haul those inflatables with a wave runner!?

Pretty good show today overall, IMHO.

Hi everybody. Long time reader, first time contributor here. A comment on this particular episode first: I can't believe no one mentioned that all of the one-bids were under $1000. I don't think this has happened since the mid 90s, if memory serves. I would really, really be surprised if this is not the last time this ever occurs.

Second, a few comments on Drew. I like him as a comedian and a sitcom star; I began taping episodes of The Drew Carey Show beginning with the series premiere on ABC and continued taping until about the fifth season. However, as TPIR host, his style seems quite lazy to me. Overall, he doesn't seem very good at explaining the rules of the games or even remembering them at times. Two specific things for now: He hardly ever mentions the money in Money Game, and he currently almost always doesn't explain Bonus Game before the bonus prize is displayed. Bonus is probably my favorite game (partly because of the reveal).

Glad to be here and share. By the way, I grew up in the 70s and 80s watching game shows like The Joker's Wild, Tic Tac Dough, Face the Music, Family Feud, Scrabble, Password Plus, Card Sharks, and others, and watching Bob Barker regularly on Price and the Miss USA and Universe pageants. I'm a game show kid who wanted to be a game show host back then. Still think it'd be a cool job.

Thanks.

Welcome to the site!  For starters,  just a friendly notice that there's a rule around here about bumping up topics that are more than 30 days old.

No idea where you're getting this from.  On this particular show, three of the six one-bids were higher than $1,000.

Sure he does.  I can only remember two instances, between both seasons 36 and 37 combined, where he didn't.

Thanks for the welcome.

I should rephrase. All of the bids from the contestants in Contestant's Row were under $1000. I didn't mean the actual retail prices.

I definitely can remember more than that. Bob almost always gave a running total of the money as the game was played, and a final total at the end. Very often Drew just says "you have 4 chances" and doesn't give a total, running or final.

One reason GameShowKid might have bumped this thread is because this episode (6/26) was rerun on August 31, and that was when he first saw this episode, so he decided to give his comments on it.
