When are people going to figure out Gold Bond lotion is really expensive?

Also I wish people would ask more of what the count amount is in drugs.  A little difference can make a big change in pricing.

The last time you needed a 3 digit prize to win on Shopping Spree, 1/11/2008.
I agree with Adam as to why they didn't show the price of the laptop , probably because picking that probably would had won the game as well ( based on the 1st two picks )

“Stack the Deck” actually seemed very … winnable today.

Gas Money was just … no.

I bid $44,000 on the two-car showcase. Ouch.

After wins in Cliff Hangers and 1 Wrong Price, the show went off the rails a bit, especially with another Stack the Deck loss, but fortunately, it broke even with a Shopping Spree win.

I thought for sure that Dior would win, but too bad he went over by a little more than $1,000.

I was at this taping. Two interesting notes:

1. Yes, indeed, Shopping Spree had a hiccup. The contestant selected the elliptical, the price was revealed and losing horns played while the audience cheered and the contestant celebrated. The elliptical was the least expensive prize, but the game was set-up wrong. The target should've been closer to $7,000. After a long stop down, it was decided to of course give her the prizes, reshoot the reveal and simply not show the price of the laptop - probably around $1,400.

2. Drew HATES Stack the Deck. After the loss but before throwing to commercial, Drew gave an emphatic apology to the camera saying something like, "on behalf of Rachel, the cast, the crew, and all of us at CBS, I apologize for Stack the Deck." And then during the break went on a tirade about how the game is practically un-winnable, even when contestants get all three grocery items right. I've been to three tapings this season and was a contestant myself a few months back (lost Lucky 7). Drew genuinely wants everyone to win, and he keeps a real positive "let's stick it to the man" vibe through and through with the audience. It's infectious and endearing. I know he takes a lot of flack here, but he cares deeply about the contestants.

1. The game being incorrectly setup to the point where it is impossible to lose has actually happened at least once before.

2. Caret apparently feels the same way about “That’s Too Much!”, even though it seems winnable to me, as you don’t need to know the exact price.

This was a very interesting show. Surprised to see an exercise machine less than $1000. Rare to see two cars in one showcase. Overall 3 out of 6 games won is better than yesterday and Monday.

So Stack's gotten bad enough that Drew is speaking out against it. As I've said a billion times, there are better, more subtle ways to force losses that they just seem not smart enough to do. This is a pretty big low though for Drew to blast the game in a semi-public setting.

Meanwhile... it's ridiculous they screwed up Spree, but here we are. The target should have been 6750 or something, but they've recycled 6500/7000/7500 99% of the time.

Easy One Wrong Price- The price for the pool table might've been too expensive, but the TV price was definitely lower.

$19,855 was the best looking price in Gas Money with $21,570 being the second best choice. The others were too low, high, or generic looking.

A definite boo-boo in the Shopping Spree setup. I believe it's happened at least a couple of other times that the contestant would've won picking even the least expensive item as long as he/she chose the two most expensive items.

Sandra was obviously well under on the Showcase. I was surprised it wasn't at least a few thousand dollars more. A two car showcase should get a bid of at least $40,000.

2. Drew HATES Stack the Deck. After the loss but before throwing to commercial, Drew gave an emphatic apology to the camera saying something like, "on behalf of Rachel, the cast, the crew, and all of us at CBS, I apologize for Stack the Deck." I know he takes a lot of flack here, but he cares deeply about the contestants.
So why haven't they changed the game at all to make it at least somewhat more winnable? Drew's been able to get a couple of changes made to pricing games, but I guess Mike won't budge on Stack the Deck.

Thank you for that info JT.
1) So that means the target price in Shopping Spree was supposed to be $7,000 and not $6,500.
2) When it comes to Stack the Deck, i see where Drew has a point , even if Rolando got all 3 numbers right ( e.g. he picks the last 3 numbers ) that would of ended in a situation with choosing between 19 , 20 and 21.

Isn't the best strategy for Stack the Deck (assuming you get all three free picks) to choose the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th numbers in the price?

Well, there would still be the matter of guessing the last digit.

To me, the last digit would be easier to guess than any of the middle 3.

Considering the fact that 5 or 0 hardly ever appear as the final digit of ANY car price nowadays, your point is correct.

If the game were being set up properly, which it isn't, the second digit wouldn't be a total f***ing crapshoot.

Good for you Drew. Now can you get rid of Hot Seat?

It's fair to say that this way prevents the average viewer from realizing that anything went wrong - but is that really the best choice? They've gotten some viral traction in the past for things that haven't gone perfectly. And they weren't going to be able to hide it from us anyway.

I would have just been open and joked around about it. "Well, guess you would have won no matter what you picked" or something like that.

Post by: gamesurf on June 14, 2018, 05:06:28 AM
I’d have liked to see that as well. Could have been a fun moment. Maybe they decided the reveal that they had taped was too confusing/awkward to air. JT would have a better take on things, I’m sure.

The show’s other viral moments have been pretty easy to explain.  “Announcer on treadmill falls on face while reading prize copy.” “$80,000 awarded after every player hits same bonus space on wheel.”

The Manuela situation in particular got some pretty stupid, sensationalist media coverage. “PRICE IS RIGHT MODEL MAKES $21,000 MISTAKE! WILL SHE BE FIRED?” Easy clickbait, no need for any explanation, anybody could see what happened from the clip.

In the show’s defense I can’t see the Shopping Spree situation making those soundbytes—“Producer makes addition mistake, costs show elliptical trainer and shoes” just doesn’t have the same ring to it.

But I still would have liked to see it. Editing booth can be comforting, but it can also be a crutch. Living in the moment has always been something the current staff could stand to improve on.

I don't get the point of having a target price in Shopping Spree at all, because the object of the game is always simply to pick the three most expensive prizes and avoid the cheapest. It doesn't matter what they cost individually or collectively.

The target price tells the contestants how much they need to spend. It makes the game slightly more interesting than just telling the contestant to pick the three most expensive prizes.
