Title: FULL RECAP - TPiR 11/26/2008
Post by: Joe_Capitano on November 26, 2008, 02:58:35 PM
HAPPY THANKSGIVING, YOU TURKEYS!!!
(belatedly to Nick, since he already had his fill of turkey 6 weeks ago)

As usual (last year was the exception to the rule), there will be no Price on Thanksgiving Day since CBS has this parade and an early kickoff in the afternoon, but there will be a rerun on Friday unless you live out here in the West. Canadians get whatever comes to them. Everthing gets back to normal - sort of - on Monday. Until then, enjoy the turkey (or equivalent), the footy, and the time off.

That Cliffhangers was a doozy. It's like she suddenly had a brain freeze. She had the 20/30/40 thing down perfectly...but then. As soon as I heard "25", I figured she was doomed.

It's always great to have good contestants to alleviate a 1/6 day - no bad gameplay (except for two instances), easy to root for, and exciting. Drew also did good to not get too over or underexcited.

241: Too bad luggage usually does end in -50, or the Peanut Gallery was going to be onto something.
Cliffy: There's one instance - I thought she knew what she was doing, and she cost herself big time.
T2: This was a tough setup - three -99 and one -75, and he never got around to the clubs, actually.
Stacky: There's the other instance - with the first number inexplicably being picked again, the Peanut Gallery helps her ruin the 2nd digit, which should have been picked. Note 23810 could have easily happened still, so no guarantee she wins if she went 2-4, or even 3-5.
Sidey: Quiet Peanut Gallery. :P
Clocky: Oh dear. While Drew did his usual stuff, she went "1915, 16, 17" without Drew telling her it was lower, so no way you can squeeze a tech win out of that.
SC1: Random, but good, very funny. I'm going to rewatch it now (just uploaded onto Youtube by me :D ) to make sure I didn't miss anything, but the biggest flaw notwithstanding the rewatch was missing plot holes - I understand it was a parody, but a bit clearer would have been nice.

B

EDIT: Was that really not a green screen? *blink*
EDIT2: I just noticed when Emily came in, the shape of the car was noticeable for a second. No one saw it, though, at first (certainly not myself), maybe it was less than a second...

Didn't see 1-5 today.

Clocky: Just goes to show that this game still is in fact winnable. 1 number off!

SC 1: So I turn around to my TV and see this thing being shown. I think to myself, "Why was the ending of Price cut off?", until I see Amber walk in. Easily the BEST showcase of the year. Had a theme, stuck to it, and the hilarious ending of Rich being a pregnant man.

SC 2: Just a generic, solid showcase.

Time to take on the purple wheel!

Today's episode would of been real good if there were more wins.

*Cliffhangers: She was doing so well. But I knew she was doomed when she said $25 for the lantern. I was on the edge of my seat because I knew it was going to be a close win or a loss by only a little bit and it was the latter.

*Stack the Deck: WHY DID SHE PICK THE FIRST DIGIT??? C'mon!!!!

*Side By Side: Nice shirt acknowledging Bill Cullen. Glad she won. I didn't like the fact that they showed the game before showing the prize though.

*Clock Game: So close!!! Man... messed up. Get rid of 4-digit Clock Game! Keep it to three please!

*Showcases:
#1- I thought it was stupid at first but then I realized that the showcase was making fun of the silly outrageous plots that soap operas have. Because of that and the fact that the prizes tied in with the script I thought this showcase was pretty good. I "LOL'd" when Rich came out.
#2- Straightforward showcase

Brad's Breakdown

Drew's Hosting: 6.5

Pricing Game lineup: 8.0

Pricing Game Wins: 1.5

Writing (showcase/IUFB): 7.5

Tilt: 9.0 [Had a great game line-up today but only one winner so this is for the pricing game wins (or lack thereof) and the great showcase bid]

Final Score for Today's Episode: 6.5 out of 10

Pretty good show today. Some notes:

* Wow at the Cliffhangers lost. 20...30...:D...25...:O Wow, there was still a chance, but with the lantern at $50, it fell off the mountain.
* Great to see Stack the Deck yet again. I think its been at least a couple of weeks. I thought that even though the first number was picked, she still had a chance, but the reveal was a shocker.
* Cool to see the lady with the Bill, Bob, Drew shirt. I wonder what he'd say if someone wore a shirt with Doug, Dennis, and Tom? :P
* Ouch at that Clock Game playing. $1 off! At least she won one of the items.
* That showcase was funny, a great parody of soapopera tropes. And, definitely, lol at Pregnant Rich. (Not to mention that Emily O'Brien was *gorgeous* :P)
* And, that was a great win at the end. Not far away from a DSW!

I just wanted to chime in today with a few observations...

I felt quite bad for Kimberly in Cliff Hangers..I know that her guess for the lantern was lower than the price (and her guess) for the cooler, and I figured the mountain climber would have to go up a few steps, but I still didn't think that lantern would be $50.  I figured $40 at most.

Kudos to Drew for pointing out Edith's shirt while mentioning Bill Cullen and making her playing of Side by Side quite enjoyable.

However..Clock Game made me cringe.  I was wondering if it was just me..but it seemed like Drew really helped Laura to win the desk by saying that high-pitched "lower" right after she guessed $900..the high-pitched lower meaning "oh you're really close, just go a little bit lower".  That bothered me.  As I was thinking that, my roommate (who is not a regular Price watcher) said "Wow, Drew really helped her win that prize."  Drew's hosting of Clock Game is so frenetic..it would make me nervous if I was up on stage.  Its things like this that make me miss Bob's style of hosting Clock Game.  He was very cool and calm and gave the 'higher's and 'lower's very matter of factly, and the contestant (in my opinion) was better able to focus on the task at hand instead of worrying about interpreting Drew's voice inflections.

The showcases today were much better than a lot of them we have been seeing.  The themes actually flowed with the prizes instead of being totally random, and were actually pretty good in my opinion.  There was nothing overly random and pointless except for the 'pregnant Rich' at the end of SC1.  But, considering that the showcase actually flowed and was reasonably well done, I can let little things like that slide.

BTW, is it just me, that the 2 For the Price of 1 used some kind of Trip Skin during its presentation of Trip to San Francisco?

And For Clock Game, did Drew said lower when Laura said "1915?"

And for Showcase, it was funny.. Didn't realized it first, but now it comes to think of it, it was really funny...

The first showcase was done really well, i dont like that they are shortening up the pricing games for longer showcases but at least this one was fun.

Drew should really adopt a policy of once a contestant says a price, it stays, and no questions asked.  Jane had $390 in place and then waited a few seconds to change her mind to $690.  Having only one decision made will save time, and make the game move along more smoothly.

Wow, Cliff Hangers for a car for the first time this season, and was the only car game in the first half!

Kimberly, well I don't know what to say about her.  I liked her excitement when she was screaming in contestants' row a lot.  But I cannot figure out why she basically blew Cliff Hangers when it was set up for a win after she did splendidly on the first two SP's.  Was she intentionally trying to pull off a surprise win or did she really think the lantern was as inexpensive as she thought it was? Her guess on the lantern kind of reminded me of the Toy Guitar incident or the January 7, 2005 playing, when a contestant guessed $275, then $350 on a cookie cutter.

Stack the Deck started off pretty well, Nakita asked for the third number, but she really hurt her chances of winning by asking for the first number.

I liked how a contestant's shirt mentioned Bill Cullen, showing that there are people who remember the original TPIR, which debuted on this day 52 years ago, incidentally.

Wow, for the first time since October 27, 2006, Side By Side was played fifth and for the first time since the show that aired October 24, 2007, Clock Game was sixth!

Drew seemed nervous during Clock Game, as soon as Laura hit $1,915 he didn't immediately interject and say "lower"  This doesn't warrant a technical win in the least, but Drew should not be shaky and say "higher/lower" quickly and hear contestants clearly.

I was a bit confused as to how the first showcase started off, but it came beautifully.  It had a theme throughout and, although some will think it was a bit inappropriate, it was interesting to see Rich come out, pregnant.  I personally wonder if a soap-themed showcase could work with just the models and Rich involved, a la "The Edge of Taste" from 18 years ago.

2 for the Price of 1-Wow, something else other than a car or cash game!  And it was played for a trip!  Without using a green screen!  AWESOME!!!  It didn't matter that she changed her mind from $350 to $690; she lost anyway.  I was thinking $650.

Cliffhangers-For a car, yay! :-D  Are you kidding me...$25 for that lantern?? :headbang:  Kimberly threw away a completely easy setup.  She was a great contestant, though.

Take Two-I didn't think the fireplace would be that expensive.  Hurray, cue 200A!

Stack the Deck-She asked for the 1st number!?  That mustang was $3K more than I thought it was.

Side by Side-Looks like the spirit of Bill Cullen was with Edith.  All hail Edith!

Clock Game-OUCH, she lost those skies by $1!  If only she didn't stumble towards the end, she would've had it.

Showcases-That first showcase was AWESOME!  It had a theme, the music fit the theme, the prizes fit the theme, and Rich was "pregnant."  Definitely a nomination for Showcase of the Year.  Showcase #2 was really good as well.

Great show!

I forgot to mention this, but I wonder what was going through Drew's mind when he called one of the models "Vanna."  I hope it was by accident, since if it was a bit intentional, that would be an insult of sorts to the TPIR models.  If and how Ms. White reacts to this, I don't know, but it will probably pass.  As far as we know, she hasn't set foot in Studio 33, let alone CBS Television City, in 13 years and hasn't really had anything to do with the show since she was a contestant back on June 20, 1980.

Hey all, I've been lurking around here a bit lately, and hanging out in chat, but just wanted to say today that this was a great show! I've been keeping my neck out of some of the negativity going on, quite a bit of which I feel is justified, some of which isn't, but today...today was good all around. Today is what Drew/Rich/Freemantle should look at when thinking 'what makes a good show for Price is Right?"

Good lineup? Check - a great and unusual one today actually. Cliffy for a car is always a treat, and to see a non-car game pop up first again is essential to the mix of the show. Furthermore, we saw 241, Take Two, Sidey fifth as the only quickie of the show, Clocky sixth (and a nice treat that was). Not every lineup has to be spectacular like today's, but today was a good example of how lineups should flow, and also a good example of how pricing games exist besides Double Prices, Squeeze Play, Money Game, and Cover Up. And they're even fun to play! Imagine that.
Good contestants? Well, it was a 1/6er, but I was definitely pulling for our LFAT friend Edith at the end, and the woman who played Cliffhangers is memorable as well.
Good hosting? Check - Drew didn't botch any of the reveals today, and more importantly, despite the fact it was a 1/6er, he made it fun without being overly negative. Sure, he mentioned it a couple times, but so would Bob. The only time he dwelled on a loss into the next break was after the Cliffy loss, and he recovered in time to do a good  job hosting Take Two. He stayed away from his recent antics with the GPs in Stacky today as well.
Good showcases? CHECK. So we clearly have a new style of showcases now, and we're going to have one Drewcase a day that's going to be ridiculously corny and over-the-top. So accept that. Today's Y&R showcase was awesome because it was well executed, flowed, and HAD A THEME while being hilarious at the same time. Cannot stress how great today was - showcase of the year nom. Let's see more of that please, Drew - all we need is a consistent theme throughout the three prices, and look how much better the results are.

All this sends us on a positive note heading into Turkey break, which is much needed. I hope this show (and even yesterday's pretty good show and Monday's good Drewcase) are signs of what is to come for TPIR.

2 for the price of 1 - it was soooooo nice seeing something other than a green screen for a trip

Cliffhangers - i heard her say 25 and immediately fast forwarded cuz i assumed she would have won. guess not.

Take Two - that was a high target price

Stack the Deck - never ask for the first number free, it should be the most obvious

Side by Side - i had thought she lost, but she ended up giving us the only PG win of the day!

Clock Game - i hope that if contestants keep loosing with 1k+ prizes that they will switch it back to the old way. she did come close though

Showcases - i loved that first showcase. not at first but it ended up actually being pretty good! rich in a dress was disturbing, until i thought back on it and now find it hilarious  great bid by jane too

grade: 7.5/10 because of the showcases and the ending. its been a really good week in my opinion :-)

I didn't see any of the show today up until the showcases (I slept in).

SC2 - Standard.  I still don't like the recaps, but I'm not gonna cry over it.

SC1 - Incredible showcase until Rich came out with the whole pregnant thing.  I knew he was going to be in a dress sometime this season, but this was just too weird for me.  If Rich is going to be in a dress, he should go all out with a wig and makeup and etc.  THAT could be funny.  Also this showcase started abruptly.  I would have been better if Rich stared out with something like, "This showcase features prizes revealed as we visit with 'The Young and the Restless.'"

Yep pretty good.

Just wish there were more winners today! If there were than this would probably have been the best episode this season.

A great show! I caught the last half, but from what I saw, it was very good.

Stack the Deck - Choosing the 1st digit ruined her chances of winning. Don't listen to the Peanut Gallery!

Side-By-Side - Woohoo! Bill Cullen acknowledgement! Amazing contestant who got us the only win of the episode, although the game reveal was sudden, the overall playing of it and the contestant herself made it a great segment.

Clock Game - She got pretty flustered near the end, and I think it reflected on Drew as well. If Drew bolted in when she started going higher in the last few seconds, she probably would've got it, or got confused.

Showcase 1 - This was an amazing showcase. Although the plot confused me at first, it made sense overall and was a great parody of themes shown in soaps. The prizes were also added into the storyline well, especially the car. I laughed when Rich came out pregnant (he must've had quadruplets in there.   :hammer: ). Although some say this part wasn't the best, I think it reflects the major plot twists that can occur in a soap opera.

Overall, from what I've seen, this was an amazing show, despite it being a one-win episode. It was the chemistry, the great line-up, and that amazing showcase at the end that made it work well.

I know some will knock the ending of the first Showcase, but hey, Rich had fun coming out and revealing the "pregnant man." And ... egad, the models can act AS WELL AS speak. Give it time, and we might see more of these "act it out" showcases ... so long as they are reasonably well put together.

As an aside, this is one day I really wanted to see a double showcase winner. I mean, a new Chevrolet Impala, a bedroom set and a hovercraft all won as a single prize package would really kick butt!

Parody of the day has to do with Clock Game.

Edith ... hey Edith! (yays, Awch-ee!), youse forgot one simple rule in Clock Game! (What's that, Awch-ee?) Well, youse don't repeat none of them prices you already said. That cost you them skiis for the Little Goil and the Meathead! They'd been bugging me for ski equipment, but I's ain't gonna buy them none because the Meathead won't work! (Aw! I tried the best I can. At least that nice man who hosted was real nice even though I lost.) Whoop-dee-doo! I'm sure that Nick fella will say something about that, and I'm afraid I can't shuts him up because he always gonna refute me (That's rebut me, Awchee!) Whatever, Edith!

Great show today. Great lineup. Great showcases.

A few notes:

It was particularly nice to see 241 and Take 2 again, along with Cliffy for a car.

Ah yes, no car/cash game first once again. Don't get me wrong, those games first aren't all bad, I just don't want to see them there every day.

Tough setup on Take 2 IMO.

Drew really needs to loosen up in Clock Game, but that second price was one of the Bullseye I type.

Stack the Deck: Never pick the first number! To me, the GP portion on that seemed easier than usual today, but I could see where someone may go off.

I would have lost SBS.

I think a better second half order would have been Clock 4th, Stack 5th, and SBS 6th. Better flow that way IMO.

The Hovercraft showcase was quite a bit more than I thought.

Oh almost forgot, great to hear the Bill Cullen reference.

The more times I see Clock Game, the more I think Drew causes the contestants to lose some of the time.  He is not calm and cool.   His voice changes make the contestants more nervous.  This has to be fixed or we can probably add Clock Game to the "endangered" list

SC1 - I have mixed feelings on this.  It was so different than the traditional SC that is was good in a way.   However, I don't want to be watching "acting" in the SC every day.  If they do this every day, it is going to get old very quick.

Rich in a dress???   Anyone else have a bad feeling about this Valentine's Day show now?   I have a terrible picture of Drew in a cupid costume.

Whoo hoo no car/cash game for a THIRD day in a row!!! As I said yesterday I thought that was an impossibility now.

2 For the Price of One isn't a bad way to start a show.

I said yesterday's lineup was the best thus far, today's came pretty close. I mean you have Cliffy as the only car game of the 1st half (and that being a non-car/sp game!), Take Two right behind it, Side by Side 5TH instead of 6TH and Clock Game LAST. How cool is that.

Speaking of Clock Game, well, all I can say Drew did not help things in any way, shape or form here.

Showcases: ...**sigh**

I'm going to close by saying  that at least we still get good lineups every once in a while like today's.

2 for the Price of 1: She should have gone on my instincts. $650 instead of $390 was the price.

Cliff Hangers: I laughed hysterically when the poor mountain climber fell off. $45 should've been the price.

Take Two: Again, contestant should've gone with my instincts.

Stack: Never ask for the first number...always go 2, 3, 4.

Side: I thought for sure I'd see "SORRY $7985" light up. That was a nice surprise.

Clock Game: She missed the second prize by $1. I heard 14 at the VERY last possible second.

Showcases: The first showcase was odd, but funny.

I'm going to give this show an 8/10. Horrible strategy on "Stack" decked her and Cliff Hangers' would have been won had she said $45. 2for1 and Take Two had evil price setups.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING, YOU TURKEYS!!!
(belatedly to Nick, since he already had his fill of turkey 6 weeks ago)

Man, I would really love to make a comment on this...

241:  Holy crap!  An art card for a trip!  I thought those things were extinct.  Correct me if I'm wrong, but this may be the first time that a contestant has changed a price in this game.

Cliffy:  Always great to see this game played for a car.  Not so great to see when what should be a forced win turns into the epic fail of the year.  I thought Kimberly had this game in the bag after nailing the bobbing cooler... but then she comes off with a dumb guess of $25 on the last prize.

T2:  Yay!  Take Two! :P

Stacky:  Nakita, Nakita, Nakita... why did you pick the first number as a free digit?  That was dumber than... well, saying that a Mustang is $29,000.

One-Bid #5:  WHOO Bill Cullen reference!

Sidey:  Take that, Peanut Gallery!

Clocky:  Well, Laura played it great... but she screwed herself when she didn't wait for Drew to say "LOWER" after she said $1,915.

Odd second-half lineup today--Stacky 4th, Sidey 5th, Clocky 6th.

SC #1:  Now that was a great showcase!  It made me cry... it made me laugh... it had Rich Fields in drag and preggie!  Definite candidate for "Showcase of the Year".

My showcase bids:
Car--$25,507
Room/hovercraft--$21,007

I don't care whether or not you know the "ascending order" price trick in Cliff Hangers.  $25 was a really lousy guess for the lantern.  She'd have won if she tought out her guess a little more.  Since she could miss it by $23, she'd have won if the price was anywhere from $2 to $48.  Why waste the lower range like that?  That lantern was not going to be $2.  And yes, I know she didn't think about that, and I know most contestants probably don't, but they're no reason they shouldn't.

Laura played Clock Game decently.  I'd hardly say "great."  Just better than everyone else since the rule change.  Her jumping straight to $1915 inexplicably was not her only questionable play, though.  Least she could've realistically won.

I really liked the Young and the Restless showcase.  Probably would've been cooler if they'd chosen a couple of more iconic characters--guess they wanted to shoot younger than Victor and Nikki--but it was genuinely funny, and well written.  Seemed similar to the kind of silliness of the actual classic showcases of decades passed by.  I could've done without pregnant Rich at the end, though.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING, YOU TURKEYS!!!  (belatedly to Nick, since he already had his fill of turkey 6 weeks ago)

Heh, thanks, it's amazing... I was pretty much off this board for a year, yet I'm still quite recognised for whatever reason, or maybe it's because I'm vocal about how much I'm against the changes of the show.  Anyhoo...

The sight of the trip skin in 2 for the Price of 1 was beauty to my eyes.  How I long for them to be used in full scale again.  At least next week we'll see them, though I'd really like it if the show would simply dump the green screens.  I'm sure Bart himself would have to admit directing with that trip skin in 2 for the Price of 1 today was easier than any time using a green screen in any game.

I really wish Drew wouldn't dance around while the mountain climber climbs the mountain in Cliff Hangers, especially if it's because he's "so sure" of a win.  He handled that loss and toss to commercial very poorly.

Anybody else catch the jump in the theme during the ticket plug?

Drew has to stop letting contestants change their mind based on every whim of the audience.  First Jane in 2 for the Price of 1 then Nakita in Stack the Deck.  Thankfully neither case affected the outcome of the game.  If contestants can't decide for themselves, then they plainly just don't make for good contestants.

Edith's shirt was nice, but there's something about making a deal of remembering Bill Cullen yet forgetting Dennis James and Tom Kennedy that makes the effort seem unimpressive.

Drew totally shouldn't have been allowed to get away with the hinting he gave Laura in Clock Game.  It was simply unfair as he pretty much implied to her she had to bid one dollar lower.  Simply not proper at all.  The host isn't allowed to help the contestant win.  He must remain neutral, and Drew just plain didn't.

The first Showcase was written even worse than the soap opera those two characters came from.  An introduction would have helped it greatly, but the whole theme being based around who was describing the prizes was just plain dumb, and Rich... gosh, I did not need to see that.  That was absolutely asinine.

I'm glad we're done for the week, and especially when we're on our way to the big purple wheel of salvation.  It's going to be the best week of the season by far.  Bring it on.

the whole theme being based around who was describing the prizes
How in the world was that the theme? It was a parody on how crazy plot twists can be in soap operas, with the prizes interrupting (the music cues signaling that). They talking about that "voice in the air" is another part of that, adding to the ludicrousness.

Well, it was the only sort of theme I could pick out of it, as it was the only thing that lead between the prizes.  I didn't find it much better than any of Drew's "I know what you, the contestant, is thinking" Showcases.

Perhaps she never heard of or never saw the nighttime show?

I doubt she ever saw the Cullen versions when they originally aired.  She didn't look aged enough to have been around during their existence.

Today sure was an interesting way to go to the long weekend.  It had a bit of everything.

Couple of tough losses.  If only Kimberly had the first one exactly right.

Nice tribute to the three generations of TPIR hosts by Edith.  I'm only 33 and have seen the Cullen version a few times on GSN.

Now, to Showcase 1.  This was actually one that I liked.  When they had that the Y&R stars were going to be on the show, I thought "probably like last week...walk-on, taken from studio to make-up room, etc."  However, it was actually fun.  I think I am the only one who ever thought about it, but I like the cold open, meaning that the beginning of the showcase did not start with Rich talking (see the couple of times earlier in the year when the models were talking).  It was nice to hear all involved (for Amber, I'm sure it was her first time speaking on the show).   Also, for probably the first time this year, I was actually laughing with Drew after the showcase ended.  Rich (actually walking with a microphone instead of by his podium with the headphones on during the showcase) with the dress on was the icing on the cake.  Usually after the reveal, I fast-forward the end to the very end, but I had to stay with it to laugh at Rich again.

Showcase 2...Actually normal with no frills.

Now, after the NFL, college football, Thanksgiving, and the long weekend...bring in the purple wheel.  However, I have the feeling that today's SC1 was a treat, but next week, we will be back to the weird unsensical showcases that we know and love...or despise.

Might as well have complained about forgetting Doug Davidson too.  Dennis James and Tom Kennedy were relatively unimportant to The Price is Right.  Bill Cullen and Bob Barker were not.  I fail to see the problem.

...actually, considering the first showcase, mentioning Doug Davidson would've been appropriate :oldlol:!

In the chat, we said "Nick will going to complain about showcase # 1" and it well... was true...

Hey, Nick, BTW, Don't you notice that this is parody of the soap opera?

EDIT: Bill Cullen was important to The Price is Right... (Well, because without Bill, we wouldn't even have The Price is Right we have right now!) but not Tom Kennedy and Dennis James (Yes, I do love both hosts but they didn't affect the history of the show whatsoever)...

and if a contestant have to mention every host... I believe you will criticise he/she because he/she didn't mention "Dob" and "Fingers..."

Um, since when does a green screen look real?  The outlines of the models always look digitized when they're being chroma-keyed.

A real picture of a trip in the studio looks the most real because it is...  "real."

Heh, well, I just find it amusing that you mentioned me out of all the Canadian members on this board.  Yes, it was six weeks ago this past Monday the Canadian Thanksgiving.

It honestly looked like it was a green screen to me. The image looked too real...

No, my friend, that is why trip skins are much better than green screens.

Might as well have complained about forgetting Doug Davidson too.

I knew somebody would bring that up, but I didn't think it would be you, Frank.  Getting James and Kennedy in there as well, you would have had all the good hosts of The Price Is Right in there, but that still leaves Drew.  Hmm.. maybe there was no way it would have worked.

It's just a shirt, and not everybody's perfect, she's Human afterall. Her shirt, her rules. :-P

Well, yeah, obviously, I was simply making a comment.

If she wanted to be perfect, she would've also put every single person involved in TPiR since it started from day 1.

No, because the focus of her shirt was the hosts of The Price Is Right, not every single staff member.

In the chat, we said "Nick will going to complain about showcase # 1" and it well... was true...

Is that honestly what you people think about me, that I'm not going to like stuff?

Hey, Nick, BTW, Don't you notice that this is parody of the soap opera?

Sure, but at the same time, I was a part of a improvisational drama group, and a couple of our members did a soap opera parody sketch a few times, and it was a heck of a lot better than whatever this thing they had for the first Showcase, and we didn't need any real soap stars.

if a contestant have to mention every host... I believe you will criticise he/she because he/she didn't mention "Dob" and "Fingers..."

No, because again, the focus was on the hosts, not every staffer; and Fingers is not synonymous for Roger as producer.  This must be repeated and understood.

2 for 1: Green Screen or not, they have to go. It looked so real that I just couldn't tell which is which.   I hjad a hunch that Luggage would be $650.

Cliff: From Perfect to.....Tragedy??!!! How could Kimberly even think the Lantern would be less than a $30 Portable Cooler? That is just sad.

Take Two: Hmmm....Rough.

STD: Nakita is another who should know not to waste a free pick on the first digit.  :headbang: $20,415 would've been my guess. Talk about a Mustang going up by Steroids.

Side: Exceelent work for someone paying homage to the current and those who came before him.  :-)

Clock: EGAD!!!!!! :headbang: We almost saw someone actually pull off a big one in the now "4-digit prize allowed" Clock Game. OUCH!!! THE PAIN!!!!!

Showcases: I'm not a soap opera fan and as far as some of you thought it was good.....(Gets on the floor) Like many soaps on the air.....BAD ACTING WAS IN PLACE!!!!! I'm sorry, y'all!!!! Just din't impress me much. Seeing Rich in a dress and pregnant was kinda the most outrageous we've seen him and I'll give him a bit of props for that. When my grandmother saw him, She said "That's Ugly".       The prizes looked great, though.

A 3.25-star show.

Happy "Bird" day!!!!!! :-D

I thought today's TPIR was THE most poorly executed show of the 37th season. I'm glad I didn't watch it, because I felt the contestants made way too many mistakes. Drew Carey really oughta remind the contestants to keep their mistakes to a minimum, and maybe they'll win something really good.

It's not the host's responsibility to make sure contestants play the game properly.  If a contestant makes a questionable or bad decision, it's not Drew's problem.

Hi all.
I am a long time fan of the Price is Right, however I am relatively new to Golden-Road.net.  Just recently I have found myself searching for a place to discuss my dissatisfaction on one of my once favorite shows, The Price is Right.  Just now have I actually had something to talk about at a discussion board.  Before I had only good things to say and didn't find it necessary to voice my opinion, but I would now just like to know that I am not alone with my sad realization that The Price is Right just isn't the same, and is taking a turn for the worse.

I usually DVR the show when I am unable to watch it live due to class or work.  It wasn't until this episode that I finally came to a realization that the show is no longer TPIR that I remember.  The showcase on today's show shocked me.  It was one of the most awkward scenes I have seen on television in a really long time.  The acting wasn't funny.  The "idea" wasn't even funny.  Drew was laughing awkwardly at the end of showcase, which just made it more obvious that it was funny to Drew and only Drew.  And Rich in a dress? I felt as though I was watching a bad SNL skit mocking a bad episode of TPIR.  I really couldn't believe that they aired such a thing. I had to watch it twice in hopes that maybe it wasn't as originally bad as I thought, but I was wrong.

As a viewer I felt as though they lost respect for their loyal audience. Like I said, I have been a long time viewer and to watch such a showcase was an insult.  Rich wearing a dress and being pregnant doesn't help my case.  Rich is continuously popping up places that just isn't necessary.  He isn't a reality star personality which he is trying so sadly to become or pretend to be.  I wanted to see a showcase that showcased the prizes. Nothing else. I mean, isn't that what TPIR is/was all about?

Between the bad acting and dialogue, the prizes seemed minimal and almost non-existent.  More attention was put on the bad dialogue than the prizes that were being shown. It was also obvious that the contestants were confused at what was going on.  The excitement was at an all time low.  If I wanted to watch bad acting I could stay tuned and have watched a real soap opera.

Hurray for a trip skin in 241! That looked so much better than the green screen...too bad they can't use them all the time anymore.

That was a painful loss in Cliffy. Even I thought she had still won...

I'm glad to see I wasn't the only one who disliked that first Showcase...and neither did my brother, who was also watching at that point ("What the heck is this?") It had the ability to work...it just didn't. Too much bad acting and poor writing, and I had no clue what was going on. If I didn't know that it was the soap opera SC, I likely wouldn't have figured that out.

OVERALL: 3/5.

2 For The Price Of 1:  Jane shoulda left the middle number alone when she changed the 3 to a 6.  Actually, she should've picked the middle number for her free one, IMHO.
Cliff Hangers:  I was shocked when the yodelly guy went over the cliff! 8-O  That is one expensive lantern! :-o
Take Two:  Too bad! :-(
Stack The Deck:  I thought that it was a pretty dumb move when Nakita picked the first number for one of the given numbers.
Side By Side:  Nice t osee we're not gonna get skunked the day before Thanksgiving! :-)  I thought for sure Edith was going to lose because I thought the price was $7,985.
Clock Game:  What a heartbreaker on the second prize!
Showcases:  What a cool showcase showcase 1 was! :-D  Rich looked pretty in his dress, lol!

Not too good overall, IMHO.

Happy Thanksgiving Everybody! :-D

I agree...the show is over-doing the use of Rich.  He just comes off as a goofy guy that's trying to be funny but is embarrassingly not funny.  He seems to have no shame anymore.   He has lost all the class that he used to have with being associated with TPIR and I miss the Rich I used to only hear, but at least I imagined him to be a more dignified and classy person.

Drew is still Drew, I thought he was going to nuts after watching his reaction to the Clock Game loss. I still believe that game is winnable, by the way.

The soap opera showcase featuring Y&R actors was the best showcase I've seen all year. The prizes weren't randomly thrown together (cameras and computers almost go hand-in-hand) and flowed with the theme. A pregnant Rich in a dress was a little over the top, but I still laughed up a storm.

However, I do agree that they're overusing Rich. Not even Rod or Johnny had to be in a showcase every day. I think the next step for the production staff is to treat Rich like someone SHOULD treat alcohol: as a resource that can be enjoyed in moderation.

Some poor choices by contestants really mucked up yesterday's show. What can you do? They're certainly not selected based on their knowledge of prices of prizes alone, lol.

So for 5 years, everyone has complained about Rod being not shown, and announcers not being shown on TV.  And, now, Rich is being shown too much?

No, he's being involved in Showcases too much, which a case really shouldn't exist except Drew has yet to put Rich in a Showcase portraying him a positive way.  Every time it has happened, it's always done in a way that makes Rich look stupid.  Further, this was not the kind of announcer exposure most of us were wanting regained.  It's watching the announcer call the last name of the day, which I don't understand why it hasn't been reinstated.

I'm really guessing on this, but I think it's because Fremantle (Dismantle) won't let the staff to it...

Why wouldn't they?  It's apparently not a salary issue for Rich to be shown on camera anymore.  Why not take a step of making a good change by bringing back something that used to be a mark on the show?  I'll bet nobody's ever thought to do it.

I wish Drew would understand that Cliff Hangers losses -- especially obvious ones -- are fun.  Frankly, Kimberly didn't deserve to win that car after making such a horrendous bid.

Yay!  Take Two!

Is it just me, or have there been a lot of really bad Stack the Deck players lately?  Not that it was an easy setup -- but jeez, why would you ask for the first number?!

Speaking of Stack the Deck...how did they get that bottle of Purex?  I don't think they even sell that size anymore -- all the laundry detergents are supposed to be going to concentrated sizes.

Drew referring to one of the models as "Vanna" really rubbed me the wrong way.  The Barker's Beauties predate Vanna White by a good decade -- hell, when she was just a lowly participant in Contestants' Row, Janice had already been doing her thing for eight years!

Laura probably would have won Clock Game if she hadn't gotten all flustered around $2,000 -- she was playing fairly well up to that point.  (Of course, Forrest also makes a good point, noting that Drew just doesn't host it very well.)

The soap opera showcase was actually good -- although it bugged me a little that outside of participating in that skit, there was no reason for Greg Rikaart and Emily O'Brien to be there.

[The thing in 2 for the Price of 1] honestly looked like it was a green screen to me. The image looked too real...

With all due respect, that really has nothing to do with how a green screen works.  Heck, if they wanted to, they could show the trip skins on the green screens.

By real I meant it look like something an artist couldn't have done.

They probably just printed a screencap of a video.

I thought today's TPIR was THE most poorly executed show of the 37th season. I'm glad I didn't watch it, because I felt the contestants made way too many mistakes. Drew Carey really oughta remind the contestants to keep their mistakes to a minimum, and maybe they'll win something really good.

1.)  If you didn't watch the show, you have no business talking about how well or poorly it was executed.

2.)  Your comments about reminding contestants not to make mistakes are as asinine this year as they were last year.

So for 5 years, everyone has complained about Rod being not shown, and announcers not being shown on TV.  And, now, Rich is being shown too much?

I don't think the problem is that he's being shown too much...I think it's that every time he is shown, he ends up making an ass of himself.

Edith's shirt was nice, but there's something about making a deal of remembering Bill Cullen yet forgetting Dennis James and Tom Kennedy that makes the effort seem unimpressive.
Any mention of Bill Cullen on Price is a plus to me.

Are we SURE that wasn't a green screen?

I do believe the camera zoomed in on the model just before the transition to full-screen graphics.  I believe that would then imply trip skin, but if you (or anyone else) can get a screencap of that, we'll know for sure.

I could post quite a few things for the "Joe Plinkos do notice" file from that statement. I've had several people say something along the lines of Rich being such a handsome man and how they always wished he was on camera more than just the last few seconds of the show when Bob was hosting, but now, they feel sorry for him because he's always shown doing something idiotic, and they'd much rather see 'handsome, normal' Rich than him doing something stupid.

(Regarding the trip display) ... but if you (or anyone else) can get a screencap of that, we'll know for sure.

Go to Wayoshi's original post on page 2 of this thread. (In fact, you had quoted it, but we don't quote images here).

It is definitely a "skin," though not in the traditional sense of a painted background. And, if that were greenscreen, neither camera would not be zooming in on anything - or shouldn't be, absent a camera switch.

I know I'm going to regret asking this...but why did you find it necessary to ask in a thread entitled "FULL RECAP - TPIR 11/26/2008" what date the episode in the thread aired on?

...I think he meant what day this episode was supposed to air on - the original intended airdate before the Purple Wheel episodes were moved.

In that case it's December 3, 2008 - it's this Wednesday's real show. And a good question - had the episodes aired as intended, why were there only three episodes for the first week of December? Or was it that the episodes were taped after the schedule was revised?

Cliff Hangers was the total definition of "epic fail". How do you blow that?

You can't get more heartbreaking than Clock Game. Not even a full second more would have been enough. :-(

Now I can finally comment on the controversial showcase since I got to see it. It was actually going kind of well and could have been good... until the two soap stars made out. Then it just became inappropriate and awkward. My goodness... what is this show coming to?

BEST CONTESTANT OF THE DAY: Jane
SHOW GRADE: 2
