As far as I'm concerned, no celebrity deaths have occurred to this point in 2017. Let's hope it's a better year for the famous among us than 2016 was.
While it is not a hard and fast rule, please try to keep the OBITs mentioned to people at least somewhat related to the forum at large and the topics discussed therein. Thanks!
This.

Let's hope it's a better year for the famous among us than 2016 was.
This is just me but I don't think it's fair to give one entire year a bad rap just because some famous people died. There's way too much unneeded negativity for 2016 because of it.

It's not fair, but it isn't unjustified either, and I don't think anyone should crap all over 2016 because of the deaths. But I've looked back on recent years and when it comes to celebrity deaths this was certainly one of the worst. Every year has big notable deaths, but 2016 was marked by more than a few legends losing their life and rather unexpectedly. It was also marked by a steady consistency, especially in the 2nd half of the year. Even comparing Decembers, it's not even close. So yeah, in recent memory, 2016 was one of the deadliest years (not "the" deadliest) for celebrities. Does that mean the year was bad? No. It just means that it'll stick in memory for those we lost.
Also, unrelated to Patrick's comment, people will continue to die. Death isn't beholden to a year. I know this and plenty know this. We don't need to be told like children that people will keep dying. No one is truly blaming the deaths on the year. The number of deaths during 2016 was nothing more than coincidence and most understand this. That's doesn't mean, however, that people can't take note of the coincidence.

I...wasn't giving 2016 a bad rap. I just simply noted, if vaguely, that there was a seemingly large number of celebrity deaths than usual and that it's a trend I hope doesn't continue into this year.
At least for me personally, 2016 was a phenomenal year.

Was for me as well. My niece gave birth to a boy in February and I had surgery to correct mitral valve prolapse that my heart specialist said virtually saved me from congestive heart failure.

I see we've turned the obituaries thread into an off-topic mess.
Don't do it again.

I have the first obit of someone whose name you might not be familiar with, but whose work millions of people do, and continue to do through reruns on CMT and the RFD Network, among others.
Sam Louvillo, the creator of the country music-centric comedy series "Hee Haw," which brought country music into our homes from 1969-1992 in first-run episodes and since then in reruns, passed away Jan. 5, at the age of 88.
http://economictimes.indiatimes.com/magazines/panache/hee-haw-co-creator-and-producer-sam-lovullo-passes-away/articleshow/56369125.cms?from=mdr
According to the Associated Press, Louvillo had worked on "The Jonathan Winters Show" with two other writers, and noted how much better the show's ratings did when country music artists were guests. They came up with an idea, it debuted on CBS in 1969, landed in syndication two years later ... and the rest, as they say, is history.

Sad day in the world of rodeo. A 25 year old bull rider from Canada, Ty Pozzobon, passed away suddenly. He was one of the PBR's top bull riders for several years. I have had the privilege of meeting him on several occasions. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.

Legendary WWE wrestler Jimmy "Superfly" Snuka has died at age 73. He was one of the first of the legendary high-flyers, known for his daring leaps off the top rope ... and more often than not off the top of a 15-foot high steel cage. His most famous moments came within a six-month timeframe: The second of those two 15-foot leaps off a steel cage onto a prone wrestler (this one being the Magnificent Muraco, shortly after Snuka lost the match (he dragged Muraco back into the cage to beat him up some more before his famous leap); and the famous "Piper's Pit" segment where "Rowdy" Roddy Piper insulted Snuka before smashing a coconut in his face.

And so the Superfly leaves with the cloud over his then girlfriend's death likely never to dissipate. Although to live like that, partially stuck out of reality, could well be considered punishment in itself (and let it be said he paid the price in the ring too, given he was essentially buried as cannon fodder during his second WWF run in the late 80s-early 90s, most notably as the Undertaker's very first WrestleMania victim). Still, there's no denying that at his peak in the early 80s, Snuka was a thrill to watch, notably as mention above the mega-splash of Muraco off the top of the cage, which was a direct inspiration for Mick Foley to enter the sport.
-
He had great entrance music as well. RIP.

A Cuisinart coffeemaker package passed away today on The Price Is Right in a devastating train accident. The televised carnage leaves the extended family hopeful that they can ascertain grounds for removal, provided they keep out of hot water. One could chalk this up as part of the steep price to pay for appearing on television, but others have argued it amounts to little more than a hill of beans.

Impressive longevity if so. I recall seeing his name in the closing credits for the Warners' cartoon shows on network throughout a good portion of the 80s, so much credit to him from Generation X and Y for making sure the best of the Termite Terrace reached us each Saturday morning (even if the heavy editing seems to have started under his tenure).

The Animal was certainly one of the most entertaining personalities to step into the ring. Both as hero and villain, he never failed to deliver; certainly his ill-fated but still commendable pursuit of Elizabeth was one of the great plotlines of the early Golden Age. Lest we forget, he also had the honor of appearing in the very first Saturday Night's Main Event match of them all (ingloriously pinned after the Iron Sheik and Nikolai Volkoff abandoned him).

His short tenures on both SNL and SCTV, both essentially replacing better known cast members as well (the last remaining original Not Ready for Prime Time Plays left right before he came on, he landed in Mellonville during the season John Candy and Catherine O'Hara sat out) probably kept him from being better known. Few if any of you might know who Emma Morano was.
But if I told you that the world no longer has something, you might. That is, a person who was verified to have been born before Jan. 1, 1900.
Ms. Morano, of Verbania, Italy, passed away at the ripe old age of 117. Sources are indicating she was the oldest known Italian in history, and was within the top five of longest verified lifetimes. (Based on reliable birth records.)

It is believed that Mrs. Brown's child, at age 97, is the oldest verified living child of a parent who is/was still living. Mrs. Brown was 20 when she gave birth to Harold Fairweather
JFTR: Anybody remember the second Jeopardy! Final Jeopardy! ever (during the Alex Trebek run)? No? Well ... it was the first date of the 20th century. All three of them got it wrong ... and all three bet everything, leaving the second episode without a champion. The answer: "What is Jan. 1, 1901?"
Meaning that Mrs. Brown, having been born in 1900, was born in the 19th century (prior to Jan. 1, 1901, the actual first day of the 20th century). Nabi Tajima of Japan, born Aug. 4, 1900, is the only other known/verified still living person to have been born prior to Jan. 1, 1901. (One other supergenerian, Misao Okawa, died in 2015 at age 117.)

Paddington Bear's creator Michael Bond has passed on at age 91. This is particularly sad for me, as I great enjoyed the Paddington series and its various TV spinoffs as a child (even if the specifically British moments went over the head of American me as a child; case in point, the time Paddington played cricket, and I was just as confused as he was over how the game was supposed to be played and why it was supposed to be important that the silly mid off had a short leg):

Sad news. She voiced a ton of animated characters, among them Natasha and Magica de Spell on Duck Tales.
-
I've admired June for many years. She had a recognizable voice yet was so flexible that she could give life to any character given to her. She's right up there with the likes of Mel Blanc, Don Messick, and Daws Butler as one of the greatest voice actors of all time and was able to bless us with her talents even into her 90s. We will miss you June. Now Granny can be with Tweety and Sylvester again.

-
It's telling that Mel Blanc considered himself the male Foray rather than the other way around. Her impact on animation cannot be understated: Granny, Rocky, Witch Hazel, Lucifer the cat, Natasha Fatale, Magica, Jokey Smurf, Grammi Gummi, Ma Beagle, Cindy Lou Who, and Karen's teacher (not to mention briefly Karen herself during at least Frosty's initial airing before they decided to redub the role for whatever reason) make for a very strong top tier of characters. So long, fair lady, and you will assuredly not be forgotten.

My guess is that Stephanie Courtney -- who had voiced the character of a young Granny in a recent Looney Tunes short (where Granny was reflecting on her life and when she was a young adult) -- will take over the role of Granny. (Courtney is best known as "Flo" on the Progressive Insurance commercials.)

So sad to hear about Patti Deutsch. My condolences to the Ross family. But the one thing that I remember about her on Match Game is that for the most part she would give crazy, way out there answers that no contestants would ever think of saying. It was like she was there to be witty, instead of actually matching the contestants. But her printing was impeccable. She was probably my least favorite semi regular.

About June Foray, she was one of, if not the best voice actresses ever to exist. She's done it all. Rocky and Granny were her two longest-running roles. Only someone just as good as her can fill her shoes and take on these roles.
Also, just out of curiosity, has anyone seen the documentary film "I Know That Voice," where people who work in animation and voiceover talk about what it's like? June has a few moments in the film, and even takes a few minutes to talk about Mel Blanc.

I...wasn't giving 2016 a bad rap. I just simply noted, if vaguely, that there was a seemingly large number of celebrity deaths than usual and that it's a trend I hope doesn't continue into this year.
At least for me personally, 2016 was a phenomenal year.
I totally see where you're coming from, PayingTheRent. All the famous deaths we had last year were even crazier than Summer 2009. That unfortunate period has since been called the "Summer of Death." 2016 was the "Year of Death" in my opinion. We're halfway through 2017, and it's not as bad as last year.

Long time WWE manager and commentator, as well as WWE Hall of Famer, Bobby "The Brain" Heenan, has passed away. He was 73 years old.
-
He was one of the great manager heels. RIP.
-
Indeed, the Brain was brilliant at making you both hate him for his arrogance and bold-faced cheating and love him for his rampant screwiness---sometimes both at the same time. And the impressive breadth of the Heenan Family--Rick Rude, Mr. Perfect, Andre, King Kong Bundy, John Studd, Arn Anderson, Tully Blanchard, Haku, Hercules, Harley Race, and many more, including his stint as Flair's unofficial "financial advisor--testifies itself to his impact on the sport.
-
Bobby "The Brain" Heenan's managerial and commentary skills always made me laugh hysterically. His go to quotes on commentary such as announcing "Shawn Michaels has left the building!!" an hour or so into a PPV, (referring to Shawn frequently working in the opening match of a PPV). "Right now, (wrestler's name's) got an achy breaky back" whenever a face got backdropped or fell out of the ring. Heenan's best performance hands down was during the 1992 Royal Rumble. Going back and forth about whether Rowdy Roddy Piper's ring attire was a kilt or skirt in the matter of thirty seconds as Piper first helped then attacked Flair. Or the call of, "Give him the title, that's good enough." after Flair surpassed Rick Martel's 53 minute record in the Royal Rumbles up to that point. And of course the celebration when Ric Flair won and nearly went wire to wire. Sympathies and prayers to the Heenan family. We'll miss you. RIP Bobby "The Brain" Heenan.
-
Long time WWE manager and commentator, as well as WWE Hall of Famer, Bobby "The Brain" Heenan, has passed away. He was 73 years old.
"Weasel! Weasel! Weasel! Weasel!"
Who can recall chanting that every time Bobby Heenan entered the arena, or shouting that to the TV screen, in disdain for "the Brain" whenever he made a disparaging remark about Hulk Hogan or any other of the WWF's heroes? Nobody could rile up a crowd better than Heenan.
We loved seeing him get his just due whenever he went too far, but no one took a bump better than Heenan. Even after he suffered a real neck injury (took a bump the wrong way, I hear) he still was at the top of his game. And I suppose God wanted a good Weasel Suit match ... and now the fans in that great arena in the sky are getting them ... Dick the Bruiser, 'Da Crusher and the Ultimate Warrior all with him.
I've seen recent photos of Heenan, with the ravages of cancer and other illnesses he suffered deforming his face, almost actually taking on the appearance of a weasel's head. How sadly ironic, given that was the derisive nickname he was called (in reference to an underhanded person who talks tough but then tries to backpedal or cower in fear when threatened) by fans; this time, we hurt for Heenan and prayed that this was one opponent he could beat. The good thing was, even though I'm sure he knew that he wasn't going to win, he was determined to be with those "ham-and-eggers" and "humanoids" (his fans, natch), who have many memories of him and the joy and love of the industry he had and gave fans.
The best thing was, he was with his family when he passed. Probably not a better way to go, I suppose.
There was once the remark Heenan once made, during a match on "WWF Wrestling Challenge" where he, in mocking Gorilla Monsoon, said he dreamed he had died and went to Heaven ... until he saw Monsoon waiting for him at the Pearly Gates. This time, I can picture Monsoon waiting for "the Brain" at the Pearly Gates ... only I'm sure it was a joyous, wonderful reunion between two old friends, and all their other real-life friends (including Heenan Family members who had previously died, and the Brain's "enemies" all cheering and also sharing old memories as well).
RIP, Bobby "the Brain" Heenan. You'll be missed.

Long time WWE manager and commentator, as well as WWE Hall of Famer, Bobby "The Brain" Heenan, has passed away. He was 73 years old.
Quick callback to this for a second ... "the Brain" was on at least one game show in his lifetime. He, along with Gorilla Monsoon, were guest celebrities on "Super Sloppy Double Dare" in 1989, each one paired with a contestant. Bobby Heenan and his partner won the game (a fluke(?) :) ), although Bobby played up the part of uncoordinated blowhard to the hilt, as he was so good at doing. BTW: Gorilla interfered in Bobby's obstacle course attempt (the fourth one), and both contestants won by default. The show has been uploaded in the past to video sharing services, so do try to catch it.
He would have been great on Davdison's "Hollywood Squares," IMO. His skill at bluffing would have played perfectly on a show. I've pictured a week of celebrities whose skills at being grouches and sarcastic would have worked. Imagine him clashing with Don Rickles and Oscar the Grouch, for instance, and what zingers he would have given right back to Rodney Dangerfield.
Ah, what might have been.

In the immortal words of Bon Scott:
In the beginning, back in 1955, man didn't know about the rock 'n' roll show and all that jive. The white man had the schmaltz. The black man had the blues. No one knew what they was gonna do but Tchaikovsky had the news. He said let there be sound ... there was sound. Let there be light ... there was light. Let there be drums... there was drums. Let there be guitar... there was guitar. Let there be rock.
Rock in peace, Malcolm. You gave the world the gift of many sick riffs.
