Title: BigJon's down?
Post by: SuperMatch93 on July 12, 2011, 10:09:08 AM
I went to his forums to check on the net games and it said that the account was suspended. Temporary outage, or copyright claims?

Can't be copyright claims; the downloads would be down as well.

I don't think so. Probably because he updated RTaB last night.

Here is the problem (I spoke to BigJon on his Blog TV channel), he says he has to pay for his websites, so he has the automatically debited from his credit or debit card, but apparently the place where his website comes from forgot to automatically debit it this time around, therefore it looked as if he hadn't paid for it, so they shut his domain down. Everything is back to normal now!  :-D

Before the worlds erupts, i simply had to update payment information for my site since i lost my debit card recently.  Sites good now..
This can be locked now...

Does all that copyright crap even matter?

As long as you say, "It's not mine, it's theirs and I don't own any part of it.", then it shouldn't matter.

Maybe one day in the future, Freemantle will get a better director or copyright laws won't be so strict anymore.

Remember, Fremantle wants to make money with Ludia's video games.

Perhaps Jon could just release the SWFs to update to the season 40 version?

Unfortunately, in all the fine print, that's not good enough.  They can do what they want to do.. So many things they own have been shut down and removed all across the net (blogs, sites, programs, etc)

Here you go.... Maybe one day....

themountainclimber touched on this, but let me try to explain their position on "that copyright crap".  Fremanltle has a large investment in The Price is Right, speaking strictly monetarily.   It is their IP (intellectual property).    If you went out and built a house to rent, you would be entitled to the rent, not your neighbor, right?   The same principle applies... they invest in their brand, and they are entitled to make all the money that can be made from it, and no one else.   You wouldn't let your neighbor rent out the basement of your brand new house, right?

Even if Jon or others make no money on their "fan creations" they are still riding the coattails of Fremantle's success... and if someone enjoys Jon's game, they just might not buy Ludia's, or play the facebook game, or what have you.   Fremantle has every right to both request and require the stoppage of anything that prevents them (or could prevent them) from fully capitalizing on their investment... just like you could throw your neighbor's tenants out of your basement without any problem - they're trespassers.

While some companies allow fans to create and publish their tribute work as long as they do not profit from it, others do not.  Fremantle falls into the latter category, and that's just that.

Fremantle would do well to embrace their fans, I agree.  Paramount does this with the Star Trek franchise, and there are some great fan created episodes, movies, and stories which are published for free viewing.       As for copyright laws becoming less stringent, they won't, and shouldn't.   Copyright laws protect content creators, which is a good thing.

This is what really puzzles me, and someone set me straight if you can....but, howcome Jon's Price is pulled from his website by Dismantle yet he can still broadcast it on BlogTV and allows users to play it? Wouldn't Dismantle want that stopped to? Or is it they just don't know that he does it?

The creator himself can play it, but he can't distribute it widely to others. That's how I understand it.

Additionally, BlogTV is very lax on silly rules

I disagree with this. In Just for Fun, the autobiography of Linux creator Linus Torvalds, he spends a chapter discussing various forms of IP protection, focusing specifically on how they apply to software. He points out a lot of absurdities in the system that do little to protect creators' rights but do a lot to cause lawsuits. I recommend reading it if you have the time; the entire book is a fascinating read.

Copyright reform is badly needed in the US, but there's little political will to get it done because the big corporations that benefit the most from the current IP law have the most clout—the average citizen of the US doesn't know and doesn't care much about copyright law. Disney, in particular, I have heard has been successful in getting copyright law modified to extend copyright terms, preventing Mickey Mouse from falling into the public domain.

As said from his BlogTV, he said it got terminated because of a video of how to sign up to this one website, not the games. He's trying to get it back without making a BigJon07 or something.

Whew! Well, at least is wasn't from his games! But, I still fell so bad for Jon...Why must bad things happen to good people? I see nothing wrong with what he has done! I mean, it's just some fun among a few hundred friends....not the entire Price nation....DISmantle, why must you be so mean?

Wow the last two posts proves nothing in "Read Above" department. Kian just said, and I can back up the statement that this had nothing to do with Fremantle in any way. There was supposedly a crack down on How-To videos around YouTube. Do not go freaking out that Fremantle had any involvement, and I would really suggest this thread get locked now. People: READ before you post.

I notice on Jon's new page that there are no game-show related video clips or any clips showcasing his game show PC game creations.

Also, I noticed that a video of BigJon's TPIR creation is on hellurz06's page.  Makes me wonder if that is another one of BigJon's YouTube pages that he plans on showcasing his PC game creations and not just TPIR?

Plus, I think the Season 40 update is the best version he ever made so far!  Not to mention a close-up of George Gray's reaction to the overbid is prevalent!  It's too bad he won't release the game to the public anymore.

However, I wonder if BigJon will make a one-time allowance and let us have a copy of his Season 40 game as long as he does what he did with the last release?  Even if he has to release it privately?

The best bet is to not ask and wait patiently. I personally don't hold my breath for any update of The Price is Right, as I know asking is practically the same as asking him to put himself on the line at risk to face Fremantle's wrath. If Jon is willing to make that risk, I'll jump for joy; if he isn't, than that too is ok.

If you read thoroughly, it wasn't Fremantle BigJon was having problems with.

Perhaps he could do what JonSea31 is currently doing with a certain other game.

Actually, further development is on hold, due to "burnout" and some pricing games remaining that may be too complex for me to code.  I may resume development someday down the road, but I am not sure when that will be.

Since a few weeks ago, I am working on two game show PC games that are likely "safe" and may put me in much lesser risk.

He was referring to my post about a Season 40 update, not the thread's original topic.

And we all know that Fremantle is not to blame.

The thing is, if he makes that one release, then everyone gets instant gratification until Season 41 rolls along then everyone wants another new update. If he releases it and people upload videos of his S40 game all over than Fremantle will clearly know he released it and bring his behind to jail. I don't think it's worth going to jail so that people can keep wanting more and more updates. Everyday he said he gets a ton of PM's on youtube/here and emails asking for an update, I don't think that's the best way to go about trying to get one, by nagging, but that's just me.

Well, did Fremantle ever say how much they want for a license? I know that Fremantle when shut down Pacdude's bombombombomwooooo.com button, they said they wanted $300 for a 1-year license (pacdudegames.com/fail (http://pacdudegames.com/fail) if you still want to donate). Maybe if enough people donated money (like on the wooooo page), Jon could get a license for a year?

Well, I guess one way to get access to a Season 40 game:  Create my own and play it to my heart's content.

That said, I am very questionable about releasing the game at all.  I probably may strongly reconsider by not releasing the game at all.

If they did want a license, were talking thousands, not hundreds...Howver they dont want the game released at all, even for thousands.

Also, I did try to access the forums from the Forum tab on the main page.  The Download tab would highlight no problem, but the forum tab doesn't highlight at all.
