Title: OK, il Prezzo e Giusto!
Post by: SteveGavazzi on March 12, 2007, 04:41:07 PM
I was screwing around online today and found this awesome site (http://www.okilprezzoegiusto.tv/index.htm) about the Italian version of The Price Is Right.  It's in Italian, of course, but it's got pictures of every game (except Now....and Then...apparently, it was retired after the first season because they used prizes instead of groceries and the sponsors got sick of people seeing how much their prices had gone up!).

And what's more...they credit us!  They acknowledge that some of their US pictures come from the Golden Gallery, and we're listed in their external links.

Wow, this is awesome! You've heard me say I love Italy's TPIR before, so you know I especially appreciate this. Neat to see how the games look over there, especially Walk of Fame & On The Nose.

Thanks for finding it, Steve!

I can try to translate some of the pages (as I am an Italian major in university), or you can use Babelfish to translate it yourself
Title: Re: OK, il Prezzo e Giusto!
Post by: SteveGavazzi on March 12, 2007, 07:27:42 PM
Given those two options, I'd have to pick the first...Babelfish isn't exactly perfect.  Anything that refers to prizes as "racing silks" probably isn't that great of a tool for translating entire paragraphs.

Honestly, the less said about Now...and Then the better.  :-P

(And I find it funny how their Hi-Lo game translates into More or Less through Babelfish.)

...or you could ask me since I'm Italian and I watched OK since when I was a baby (and it was a weekly 2-hour program then)

<<(And I find it funny how their Hi-Lo game translates into More or Less through Babelfish.)>>

In fact "Più o Meno" exactly means More or Less.

Too bad OK isn't around anymore or MoL would have been a nice translation challenge for the authors.  Maybe they could have named it "Higher or Lower"  :D

As a part-time web designer, I have to say ... this has to be one of the worst design ever. All that moving text is A) going too fast, and B) making me dizzy !

But the pricing games look nice. It's seems like they've done their homework. The only question I have : How many different hosts did this show have? I have seen at least 4 different people hosting. 2 men and 2 women.
Title: Re: OK, il Prezzo e Giusto!
Post by: CeleTheRef on March 13, 2007, 06:54:20 PM
The hosts were 1 man and then 3 women.

Gigi Sabani was the first host from 1983 to 1987, then Iva Zanicchi hosted the show until 2000 with Emanuela Folliero briefly replacing her in May and June 1999.  Then the last season in 2001 was hosted by Maria Teresa Ruta.
Title: Re: OK, il Prezzo e Giusto!
Post by: SteveGavazzi on March 13, 2007, 09:37:55 PM
Why did Iva leave the show, anyway?  I've never understood that.

For that matter, why did Gigi leave?

And as long as I'm asking questions...why was the show cancelled?
Title: Re: OK, il Prezzo e Giusto!
Post by: CeleTheRef on March 14, 2007, 12:19:14 AM
<>

The show was killed by a number of factors:

The show was just "too old" for the audience and it didn't help that the Mediaset group aired it on Rete4, considered the graveyard of gameshows (Wheel of Fortune found its doom there, too)

Also, the number of gameshows were drastically reduced because of budget cuts and Mediaset couldn't afford to keep TPIR on.

Thirdly, after Iva left the show there was no host willing to save a dead horse except for Maria Teresa Ruta who tried her very best before the show got ultimately axed.

And lastly, the change to the Euro currency made most of the props instantly obsolete and the game too hard for the average contestant.  Try playing TPIR in a foreign currency and see what you can win.

<>

She left because she never actually wanted to host!
She's actually a singer who wanted to promote herself on TV and in the 80s a gameshow was the best way to appear on a screen. With time she grew bored to death of TPIR and all of a sudden she left and never looked back.

<>

I really don't know, surely he found better things to do. In later years he hosted a number of talent contests and he was happy with them. Now he sometimes reappears on TV doing some comedy

OK is confirmed for the italian Gameshow Marathon, presumably right after Easter

Curiously OK ended two days before Easter 2001 (a friday 13th to boot)

Do you know who the host(s) are?

Do you remember the Emanuela Folliero  hosted verson. I remember hearing that she never liked doing it

Ms. Folliero left "OK,il prezzo è giusto" for personal reasons.
Title: Re: OK, il Prezzo e Giusto!
Post by: CeleTheRef on March 19, 2007, 07:38:08 PM
Sure, Folliero had to learn all those pricing games and how to host them in front of a crowd shouting random numbers.  She just wasn't ready for it.

There are still no certain news about Gameshow Marathon, except that OK is in.

Gerry Scotti is a kind man and wants everybody to walk away a winner and often when he knows the answer he tries his best to help out the contestant. As a result many players make it to question 10 but the pace is much slower.

Since there isn't an awful lot of hosts here, I can guess that the gameshow marathon host will be either Gerry Scotti or Paolo Bonolis, or maybe Mike Bongiorno will end his long long career. (He is just five months younger than Bob Barker)

what's for sure is that old gameshows are being referenced by hosts at an interesting rate.  It could be some kind of hidden advertisement.
Title: Re: OK, il Prezzo e Giusto!

Our verson of gameshow marathon dint had a gameshow hosting. The women that hosted it was a former talkshow host

Gerry Scotti i liked watching his verson he always put alot of energy into doing it.

What if enrico papa hosts gameshow marathon he was good on weakestlink.

yours are the first words of praise I hear for Papi's Weakest Link! :)  Italian games rely mostly on the host's ability to make jokes rather than high drama and big prizes.

Weakest Link did poorly because the host was supposed to be mean with the contestants, but you can't pick a bunch of people to face Enrico Papi and stay serious. The following year he hosted Dirty Rotten Cheater and it was a great success.

I think Papi would be a fun GSM contestant to have around.

Papi weakestlink was very good!

Do you know who will host 1 vs 100?
Title: Re: OK, il Prezzo e Giusto!
Post by: CeleTheRef on April 02, 2007, 09:58:31 PM
1v100 will be hosted by Amadeus and his nose :>) a pilot episode has been taped in Paris

in other news, Mike Bongiorno will NOT end his 52 year long career too soon because he announced he's working on a new gameshow for fall 2007. For now he's about to begin another season of The Brainiest.

I'm a little worried because Mediaset usually advertise their gameshows months in advance with mysterious teasers, but I can't see any ad for the gameshow marathon. :(
Title: Re: OK, il Prezzo e Giusto!
Post by: CeleTheRef on April 05, 2007, 04:22:59 PM
OK has just been referenced in the episode of The Brainiest I'm watching now.   The question was "who was the host of the price is right before Iva Zanicchi?"  the contestant was too young to guess Gigi Sabani.
A few minutes later Iva returned as the answer to the question "which singer is known as the Eagle of Ligonchio?" (her town of birth)

EDIT: the 1vs100 teaser was aired today.  1 month to go!

1vs100 started today, and the crowd there is noisy as in the good ol' TPIR

the OK website now has a section with old magazine articles about TPIR, including this one about the first host Gigi Sabani paying a visit to Bob Barker in 1985

the makers are Alessandro Gianotto and Maikol Garbin.
Maikol is also behind other two gameshow memorial websites:
a small one about wheel of fortune and its countless style changes
http://www.okilprezzoegiusto.tv/laruotadellafortuna.htm

and one about "il pranzo è servito" an original format that was very popular in the 80s and there's a strong community asking for it to return. I can tell more about it in a new thread if you wish.

some OK tunes are being used as background tunes on many Mediaset infomercials.
You can catch them on their shopping channel found on this page:
http://www.mediashopping.it/   then click on the red "IL CANALE TV" link on the yellow bar.   Advertisement of gardening tools have OK tunes more often.

What's more, today Iva Zanicchi is going to host the pilot episode of some gameshow.  No clue on what it could be :(

Title: Re: OK, il Prezzo e Giusto!

I got a few info from some people who attended the taping: the game is titled "Luck Makes 90" after the proverb "fear makes 90" because here the number 90 means fear for reasons lost in the fog of time -_-'

three contestants compete in guessing the identity of celebrities in order to score points and goal is to score 90 points without going over.  I can guess it's a Showcase Showdown with a quiz element.

Despite its simple gameplay, the studio audience liked it and Iva was in great shape!  The producers are positive in airing this maybe next Fall.

I am afraid the Gameshow Marathon will be delayed because many program are going on vacation and "fillers" have been already announced  (this time Chain Reaction and Identity will keep us entertained for the summer)

"I think the best italian sets are the one with the cars and the bpir looking set"

I liked them too. Authors did they very best to better the show in every way.  Then Iva left, too bad for them -_-

"As a part-time web designer, I have to say ... this has to be one of the worst design ever. All that moving text is A) going too fast, and B) making me dizzy !"

Told the webmaster, now that moving text should be slower (and the homepage text would stop in place for Explorer users)

Do you know where i can find OK themes at?
Title: Re: OK, il Prezzo e Giusto!
Post by: CeleTheRef on August 04, 2007, 08:27:29 AM
a short version of the theme can be found here http://gsthemes.tekcities.com/partita.html

it's from a Christmas special episode, so it has vocals singing "many wishes from OK"

The full theme among with many others is on sale on Mediaset's music shop site.

GAMESHOW MARATHON UPDATE:  It's been postponed :(  Canale5 director Massimo Donelli let out "January 2008" as a new tentative date.

here is a contestant's evening at TPIR in 1993 (aired on 31st December)

It was fun, but prizes couldn't compare with the American version: the showcase won at the end was worth $4404  (at current rates, that would be $5310 today)

Dear friends of Golden Road, excuse me for my english very imperfect  :-D  but I'm waiting for a long time to write here and now I can make it, so I'm very happy.

Probably you knew me, I'm the webmaster of the site dedicated to the italian version of the Price.

Un saluto al mio connazionale Cele!

For first thing I want make a precisation: the short song "tanti auguri a OK" that Cele linked here IS NOT a Cristhmas theme, but the theme of the 2.500 episode celebrated in Italy in february 1997.

I want ask a thing about the new edition of the USA Price: did you know if the set will be changed? And do you can tell me why did in all this years the set is never radically changed?

I'm sorry for my english so aproximative but I hope you can understand and answer me.

an embrace from Italy    ;-)

There will be a new set, although it will have the same basic layout, and it won't be modernized...in fact, the impression I've gotten is that it's going to look more like 1972 than the 1972 set did.

The set hasn't been changed for all these years because the staff simply didn't think it was necessary -- in fact, the familiar set is generally considered to be part of the show's charm.

And something that bugs me a little...there's not a "new edition" of the show coming this fall.  It's the same program -- Season 36, episode 6,731.
Title: Re: OK, il Prezzo e Giusto!
Post by: maikolgarbin on August 16, 2007, 07:43:04 AM
Yes, excuse me but for "new edition" I wanted to say "new season", because in italian the words are indifferently used to speak about the re-start of a program after a period of pause, but in english it isn't. :D

For which concern the set, yes, it's surely a foundamental part of the show's charm, but I thought there could be a particular reason for wich it wasn't never radically made new, like superstition for exhample...:rollold:  In Italy, from 1983 to 1994, it was radically changed for 5 times, but the reason was the change of stage where the set was situated.

Another question: can you tell me in which year the USA set changed its colours from orange/black/brown in green/red version? It can be 1975?

bye bye

SteveGavazzi:  They work differently but it's the closest thing to MYM played for two prizes.

Also It's in the Bag is different because it's played for a prize, but the game has a similar mechanic (put a product in front of its real price)

Axl: Originally Grand Game was called Grande Gioco with a 5 million lire top prize (10 million in nighttime). It was retired in the mid 90s but returned in 1999 renamed Vinci gli Zeri with a 10 million prize offered all the times.

this game was played in Italy for the first time in 1998/99 season, and with his original format; after a few period the rules was changed in the way you can wiev on my site, because it wasn't so intuitive, and Iva Zanicchi was tired of hosting the show.
