FPG -- Friday Prediction Game / FPG 2023-2024 PLAYOFF INFO
« Last post by OneBidTris on May 12, 2024, 04:38:48 PM »
It's time for another year of FPG playoffs.  We're going back to a 4 week, 12 person playoffs this year. The field is fairly small this year, so I'm being nice with the cutoff this year, if you've played 3 games this year, you are eligible to earn points in the playoffs. Things are pretty similar to what they have been in the past, here's a breakdown of the playoffs:

Key cash will not be awarded, nor will the normal scale of FPG points and cash. Everything else is still in play, however - the 1/2/3/4 point bonuses, NCFAC picks (if you have any left) and the six-for-six cash award can still be earned. There's some NCFAC picks out there, don't be afraid to use them, they don't rollover into next season.

Qualifying Round: May 17, 2024 (#0625L)

> The top 12 MP/CP scorers will advance to the quarterfinals.
> You must score at least 1 MP to advance, so it is possible that less than 12 players do so.
> Players eliminated in this round receive no bonus points or cash.

Quarterfinals: May 24, 2024 (#0635L)

> The top 8 MP/CP scorers advance to the semifinals.
> You must still score at least 1 MP to advance.
> Eliminated players receive 30 points and $75,000 on the leaderboard.

Semifinals: May 31, 2024 (#0645L)

> The top four MP/CP scorers advance to the finals.
> You must still score at least 1 MP to advance.
> Eliminated players receive the following...

     8th place: 70 points and $200,000
     7th place: 80 points and $300,000
     6th place: 90 points and $400,000
     5th place: 100 points and $500,000

The Finals: June 7, 2024 (#0655L)

> Finalist bonuses are as follows...

     4th place: 125 points and $750,000
     3rd place: 150 points and $1,000,000
     Runner-Up: 200 points and $1,500,000
Grand Champion: 300 points and $3,000,000

We've got one or two backup games following the finals in case something gets spoiled or preempted for whatever reason. It doesn't seem like there are many spoilers at all for these last 4 weeks, but be on the lookout just in case we get things.

I realize that I and one other eligible participants were here for one of these Friday shows, May 31st. I think the easiest thing to do is have those people play on Thursday's episode like normal and then have everyone else play out the Friday show. Seems like the fairest thing to do.

In any case, good luck. May the best FPG player win.

Effectively no one outside a board like this stopped watching a show over an executive producer leaving. And if they held a grudge this long, that’s a flaw with them.

The TALK Is Right / Re: Thoughts about Plinko...
« Last post by PimpinJC on May 12, 2024, 12:53:29 PM »
The problem I have with a progressive slot is that the powers that be could just as easily make 1 or more small prizes virtually impossible to guess correctly, effectively making the top prize still unable to win.  You would still need to win all 5 chips to have a shot with a progressive slot (and even that isn’t guaranteed based on many playings I’ve seen with the current method of SP pricing).

The reason why we haven’t seen a full win is primarily due to the contestant’s ability to drop a chip in any starting position.  The game has been covered many times in mathematics and follows a normal distribution upon where the starting chip is placed.  (It’s basically a Galton board.). To give the greatest chance of a full win, the contestant has to place each starting chip in the exact center.  Quite frequently, even if someone does win all 5 chips, they’ll start dropping them on the sides (or even more cringeworthy, ask the audience on where they should drop the chip).  It’s no wonder then why we haven’t gotten a win…statistically, we wouldn’t have a win).  It’s also why we have very few high dollar wins.  We haven’t gotten a single 4 chip center hit since Drew took over (and what, only 2 3-center hits?).

Painful! Debra will be back for the Showcase Showdown after the break.

Bob actually said that if Debra pressed the button at the right time and got the jukebox in Range Game that she'd get to dance tonight with the Marine of her choice. Well, she still gets to dance, as a Marine in the audience has volunteered. :P

MRRRRRRRP! Going against the odds wasn't the way today.

Annette will be back for the Showcase Showdown after the break.

For this Showcase Showdown, we have a trio of housewives to the men in the Armed Forces.

Debra would use her money to fix up her house, while Sandra would put the money towards a new house. Annette, however, wants to go to Hawaii.

2nd Showcase Showdown:
|CONTESTANT|SPIN 1|SPIN 2|TOTAL|RESULT|
|Annette|.90|––|.90|SHOWCASE|
|Sandra|.55|.75

|1.55|MRRRRRRRP!|
|Debra|.10|.55|.65||

After Annette's spin, Bob recalls a contestant who spun again on 75’, to the shock of the audience. She hit the quarter, and she got her $1,000 bonus.

Sandra gets a MRRRRRRRP! for her second spin despite not going all the way around. Her redo makes it official. :P

Gunnery Sergeant John is the top winner, and Annette is the Runner-Up!

As John has been in the Marines for 18 years, Bob thinks he can talk a little bit about the value of the Marines as a career. "Let's not have any moans from the Marines in the audience." :oldlol:

Bob's brother is 6'7" tall, and he was in college and allowed his weight to get up to about 290 pounds. He was completely disgusted with himself, so he joined the Marines. The first day there, the drill sergeant said "Fat boy, I'm gonna make a man of you!" They took him down to 220 pounds, and he stayed there ever since.

John plans to retire after his 20th, then get out and go back and do something else.

The TALK Is Right / Re: Thoughts about Plinko...

Fun idea, but unfortunately this also changes the maximum amount to $54,000 so even a center slot hit wouldn't count as a win.
To remedy this, make it that if the center slot is hit with the last chip then the contestant wins a flat $50,000, not that plus what he/she won to that point.

Did anyone notice the gap of silence between the 4th & 5th digit in One Away?  They really made dramatic at the end there.

Indeed I did and I absolutely LOVED it!  THAT is how it should have always always been!!!!!!

Out In Left Field / Re: Family Feud Substitutes Car Bonus with $30K
« Last post by NickintheATL on May 12, 2024, 11:34:26 AM »

Towards the end of the video at 4:56, Harvey announced that if the family won a fifth game, they would win a $30,000 bonus instead of the typical car. That leads me to wonder if the change is permanent or it’s similar to what I’ve read on here about cars being offered on The Price Is Right; if the car is “out of stock,” the contestant receives the cash equivalent instead.

I’ve long ridiculed the current version of Family Feud for many, MANY reasons, and the daily top prize remaining at $20,000 for the past 23 years is near the top of the list. I would welcome a cash bonus as opposed to a prize that would be difficult to split between five people.

Me and my hubsband (snowpeck) went to a taping on April 17th, 2024. These are shows for next season. The 5-game win bonus will be changing to a trip and a $10,000 cash bonus. The 2 shows we saw are in the middle of the season but I wouldn't be surprised if they had this in place for the beginning of the 24-25 season.
