Price is Right Recaps! / Re: TPiR Recap - 10/18/2021

This is hardly important, but I noticed today that they changed the Back to '72 sign on the 50th anniversary show -- on the first two playings, it didn't flash, the colors were more subdued, and the background colors didn't stick out to the right of the lettering.

Both contestants who've played Let 'em Roll this season have outright lost.  That's pretty freaking bad luck.

I wonder what was up with the chase lights on the doors during Barker's Bargain Bar.  They were frozen on during that game but worked fine the rest of the show.

Boston hits six homers, including Kyle Schwarber's grand slam en route to a 12-3 win over Houston and a 2-1 lead in the ALCS.

I think the primetime special was very well done and respectful of the show's 50 year history, particularly the segment dedicated to Bob and especially Drew's comments to Bob. The way he spoke, it felt solemn, like he was very thankful to Bob (for hosting for the first 35 years and for giving Drew a wonderful job to continue), but also regretful that Bob couldn't be there and likely, won't ever get the chance to make a return appearance. It was very honorable and respectful.

I'm also glad they finally allotted a two hour block for a primetime special. I had been thinking of this since the Barker era. (The 25th anniversary special, the 30th anniversary special, etc.) When you only allow for one hour, you can do one of two things. You can use the one hour format (3 games, showcase showdown #1, 3 more games, showcase showdown #2, and showcases) and allow for a minimum of clips or you can use the 30 minute format (3 games, showcases) and allow for a maximum of clips. The two hour block allows for the one hour format with lots of clips, so I'm glad someone finally figured that out. Bravo.

Some have suggested that the original Price Is Right with Bill Cullen should have been acknowledged, but I think the reason it wasn't is because this was a 50th anniversary special, meaning 1972 to 2022. The Cullen edition aired from 1956 to 1965.

Overall, a wonderful special, but I would have added two things.

1.) a mention of Mark Goodson and his contribution to the show. Maybe show some clips of the times he visited the show.

2.) acknowledge the half hour, syndicated, nighttime shows/hosts. Dennis James (1972-1977), Tom Kennedy (1985-1986), and Doug Davidson (1994-1995). This could have been in place of the segment they did with the different editions of TPIR around the world. They could have done a brief explanation, showed a few clips of Dennis, Tom, and Doug and maybe even had a visit from Doug, since Bob was unable to visit.

I know that the contestant gets any leftover money in Lucky Seven, but are you saying that the contestant gets the cash equivalent of the grocery items in Rat Race? I didn’t know that.

Yes, Scott confirmed this some time ago that they get a check equivalent to the GP price.

It would honestly not surprise me if they were just looking up the items on eBay -- just for the convenience of everything. The items are most likely for display only and cash awarded in lieu of the items. It would be tacky of them to award 50+ year old products.

2. Thanks to a Back to '72 winner winning the showcase, we know that the SP prices are included in the winnings. What we don't know is if they're getting said prizes or a cash equivalent, though I'd likely say it's a cash equivalent, similar to what they do for the GP in Rat Race.

which substitute model wore wigs to look like Holly and which ones didn't? I wonder if Stan Blitz can offer any information on the Substitute model's filling in during Holly's Temporary leave and how well they worked with Janice and Dian. Kyle did an excellent job.

1. I assume you mean the physical props they're using. Not exactly sure. Maybe they know a good pawn shop or two.

Two questions:

Does anyone know where they are finding these original prizes?

Do contestants win them if they get the price within the provided range of $50?
