Title: "Everything Old is New Again" - gamesurf's Price is Right
Post by: gamesurf on April 18, 2020, 06:13:01 PM
Sooner or later, everything old is new again. -Stephen King

Why not do another one? Another script is ready, another fantastic batch of fake prizes are loaded up to be given away. All that's missing are the contestants!

This one will be traditional in format. Nine contestants will be picked, six pricing games, Big Wheel determines who gets to the showcase. But that doesn't mean there won't be a few surprises around every corner! Some of these prizes and games might keep you on your toes...

Now for your audition question:

Although the format is traditional, there is a theme. This episode is going to air next year during "Recycling Awareness Week". We’re looking for contestants who are enthusiastic, but also are willing to support the theme, who will come to the studio dressed for the occasion.

Normal dress code still applies, no costumes (this isn’t Let’s Make a Deal) but an appropriately designed T-shirt with a good slogan just might catch the eye and make the host laugh.

What do you put on your T-shirt? (bonus points if you actually design a virtual T-shirt)

I want to make this show the best it can be, but I also have some IRL things to deal with this week. So I'm keeping sign-ups open for seven days, closing at 11:59 PM EST on Saturday, April 25th.

Good luck!

Daaang...I have neither the artistic nor technological savvy to design and upload a t-shirt...so text only unfortunately.

"Reduce: The amount of evil setups."
"Reuse: The old prize cues."
"Recycle: Buy or Sell, Hit Me, and Superball!"

I'll give it a shot. Because I can't think of anything creative I'll just go dumpster diving behind the studio and look for the 'greenest' shirt I can find. Or just glue recyclables to myself and pass it off as an outfit whichever I find to be more efficient.

*cue 19* (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RvHo4DByGFY)

It's a Big Green Egg!

This handy grill, smoker, and oven comes in the size and shape of a Big Green Egg. Space-age ceramics make it durable and fuel-efficient, with a hardwood table to facilitate airflow, the Egg produces the juiciest and most delicious food you'll ever eat. Can you fit eight steaks in it? You can, because it's Big. Is it environmentally friendly? Sure is, because it's Green. And by golly, it's also an Egg. What more could you ever ask for?

And that Big Green Egg will go to the one of you four who bids nearest to the Actual Retail Price Without Going Over...

And the Actual Retail Price of that Big Green Egg is...

$1,499, and tpir04 from the Big Green Spot wins it!

Congratulations! Come up on stage, tpir04!

tpir04, behind those doors, I know we have something that you'd LOVE to have. Show him!

*1974 motorbike cue* (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ssM0DA_8mj4)

It’s a terrific new motorcycle!

Power through the streets with style, in the Harley-Davidson Street Rod! This stylish hot rod offers high-output 64 horsepower engine and 47 ft-lbs of torque! Includes a security system, bluetooth helmet, and California emission. The Harley Street Rod!

And all that you have to do to drive home in that beautiful motorcycle is balance these scales!

This is a lucky Surf dollar. Keep it, it’s yours. We have plenty. In fact, there are thousands of surf dollars in that bag over there, representing the price of the motorcycle.

In a moment we’re going to put that bag on the right side of the scale. Your task is to use these smaller bags here and put them on the left side to balance the scale.

Here, I’ll help you out. See this bag that says $494? You’re gonna want it on the left side of the scale, let me help you out--

*slide whistle*

And through the magic of gravity, the scale lowers.

We’ve narrowed it down to three bags--$3,000; $5,000; and $6,000. You only need to use two of them to balance the scale. Now you tell me—which two bags belong next to the $494 bag on the scale?

tpir04, just what have you done? We had everything nicely wrapped up for you, and you had to go and mess it up!

Whatever, we don't have a Coinstar to count, so I sure hope you got close enough to 5,000 of those coins in that tray to make it count. If it's an $11,494 motorcycle, you're a winner. Let's put the bag for the Motorcycle on the scale and see if it balances...

*slide whistle*

Oh! It looks like...

It could be...

*BUZZ!*

I'm sorry. Even without including the bag itself, it was too much weight. What was the price?

You should never, never, have even TOUCHED that $5,000 bag. Maybe it was trying to tell you something when you picked it up. I'm sorry things didn't turn out for you, tpir04, and we'll get some stagehands to clean that mess up after the break!

=============================

AnnouncerTron, we have a green spot that needs filling for our green show! Who will it be?

It's going to be Plinkoman! COME ON DOWN! You are the next contestant on The Price is Right!

And Plinkoman joins us in the row, and perfect timing too, because LOOK at what we have next up for bids!

*cue Bhen* (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L-ea3e3rrUw)

It's a lovely set of designer luggage!

From Samsonite, travel in style with this three-piece luggage set! Each suitcase contains full-zip interior dividers and four multi-directional spinner wheels for effortless mobility, and with a built-in side-mounted TSA lock, you'll be able to protect anything inside the suitcase from anything outside. Just don't set the combination to something easy as 123.

And Plinkoman, at the green podium, gets the first say!

Plinkoman, nearly the right numbers, just needed a 1 instead of a 4. JayC, follow me up on stage!

As you can tell by the giant safe, you're going to play Safe Crackers. And we have a terrific prize for you locked in that safe, that's worth over NINE THOUSAND DOLLARS! Open the safe and show him what he can win!

And that’s not all we have in the safe—we also have a fun ping pong table!

From Butterfly, this tennis table is regulation size and easy to use! Each half folds independently and has adjustable feet to ensure a level playing surface. You get it all from Butterfly!

*squeezes the safe shut*

And this safe is airtight and impenetrable. It’s too big to be carted off. It’s drill-proof, freeze-proof, bomb-proof, Oceans Eleven-proof, Italian Job-proof, James Bond-proof, Ant Man-proof, and Don Knotts-proof. The only way possible, anybody, is EVER going to get into that safe, is if they can crack our ultra-secure combination.

That ultra-secure combination has three digits. Also turns out there are only those exact three digits on the dial. Oops.

But because I want you to win and defraud our wicked ping-pong-and-motorcycle-hoarding overlords, I’ll give you a hint. We have intel that the combination to the safe is the price of the ping-pong table, and contains a 0, 7, and 9, none of which repeat.

You’ll get one try to guess the combination. If you get it right, you’ll escape into the sunset with a motorcycle and a ping-pong table. Good luck!

And the Actual Retail Pri--

*CLANGCLANGCLANGCLANGCLANG!*

Hey! Now we're talking!

That sound means that somebody bid EXACTLY right!

And the person who got the price right on the money gets an extra $500 for their specificity!

That $500 bonus belongs to the contestant who bid...

TPIRfan#9821! Congratulations. Your gut was right, and your gut earned you some extra cash. Terrific bidding, and well done!

But oh, TPIRfan#9821, that is just the start. We have some WONDERFUL prizes that are just waiting for you to win. Tell him what he can win!

It's a fun ping pong table and a terrific new motorcycle!

First, from Butterfly, this tennis table is regulation size and easy to use! Each half folds independently and has adjustable feet to ensure a level playing surface. You get it all from Butterfly!

Next, power through the streets with style, in the Harley-Davidson Street Rod! This stylish hot rod offers high-output 64 horsepower engine and 47 ft-lbs of torque! Includes a security system, bluetooth helmet, and California emission. The Harley Street Rod!

And finally, how about... A NEW TRUCK!!!

It’s the 2020 Ford Ranger XL! Features a 2.3L engine and rear wheel drive plus cruise control, power mirrors, carpet flooring, pickup box extender, splash guards, bed cover, sliding rear window, remote key fob, and Ford Co-Pilot 360. The Ford Ranger!

And you can win them all playing Master Key!

I have terrific confidence in you. First, because your perfect bid is bringing winning energy and momentum going into this game! And second, I'm told we have at least one Master Key expert in Contestant's Row that may be willing to give some advice if you ask nicely.

We have three locks over there, one for each prize. You can unlock none of them, some of them, or all of them.

And here we have five keys. Three of them open one of those three locks—one each for the ping pong table, motorcycle, and truck. One key is a dud that doesn’t open anything at all—avoid that at all costs. The final key might be of particular interest to you. It's called the master key. We call it that because it opens all three of those locks, and if you pick it, you’ll win everything!

You can win up to two keys, and to win them you have to prove you know something about these small prizes we have.

This high-power LED spotlight and output brightness up to 350 luments, holds a charge good for up to 20 hours of light, and includes a stand for hands-free lighting!

And, this industrial-strength soap and sanitizer dispenser holds 1250 mL of gel, is easy to load, and can output over 1,700 dispenses per refill.

You can win keys by correctly pricing items. You see here, in front of the LED spotlight, we have the numbers 1-4-8. To win a key, tell me, is the LED spotlight $14 or $48?

And to win a second key, is the sanitizer dispenser $23 or 36?

48 and ...23? If I get one key, I'm going to go the anti-LFAT route and pick #2. If I get two keys, #1 and #2.

He says the spotlight is $48, and he is...

Correct! And he takes the second key from the left, even though the audience seems conflicted, TPIRfan#9821 seems to have a strategy in mind. You may have won the truck already. You may have even picked the master key. Or you may have picked the dud. But why take a chance? Let's go on over to the sanitizer dispenser and get you another key!

He says the dispenser is $23, with some hesitation, and he is...

Correct again! And you are 2 for 2 on keys, my friend, and hopefully we can see you going 3 for 3 on prizes as well! Time to try the locks!

We'll start with the first key that you won. TPIRfan#9821, try opening the ping pong lock. If it opens, you win the ping pong table...

*TPIRfan#9821 puts the key in the lock and turns it*

*DINGDINGDING!*

Yes! TPIRfan#9821, my friend, you've just won yourself a ping pong table!

Now, that means this key has to be one two things. Either you picked the key that opens the ping pong table, and only the ping pong table...or you've picked the master key that opens everything. Let's try it in that truck to see if it's the master key!

*TPIRfan#9821 puts the key in the lock and turns it*

*BUZZ!*

Not the master key, at the very least you have a ping pong table.

Now let's try key #2! You've already won the ping pong table, so let's try it in the motorcycle...

*TPIRfan#9821 puts the key in the lock and turns it*

*DINGDINGDINGDINGDING!*

Look at that! You've won yourself a motorcycle as well!

But the question on everybody's mind... did you pick that master key? Go on, try it in the truck, and let's see if you were able to make the clean sweep!

*TPIRfan#9821 puts the key in the lock and turns it*

*DINGDINGDINGDINGDINGDINGDINGDINGDINGDINGDING!*

Look at that! Look at that! TPIRfan#9821, you've won it all! The ping pong table, the motorcycle, and now the truck! I'm so happy for you! A Master Key masterpiece! We're on a hot streak, folks, and we're going to give away more, more more!

Stay tuned for the Showcase Showdown, coming up next!

Welcome back! I stand here with tpir04, JayC, and TPIRfan#9821. For you three, the next few minutes are fraught with possibility.

In a moment you'll spin the Big Wheel. The object is to get as close as you can to $1.00 without going over, in one spin or a combination of two spins. Highest scorer advances to the showcases at the end of the show, where you can win tens of thousands of dollars in prizes!

But wait, there's more! Should you get exactly $1.00 in one spin--or a combination of two spins--you will win $1,000, and a bonus spin. If your bonus spin lands on either of the green sections, you will win a $10,000 bonus! And if you land on the dollar in your bonus spin: a $25,000 bonus!

TPIRfan#9821, you've won the most so far in the show, so you'll spin last. tpir04, give that wheel a spin!

-----

Spinning order:

tpir04
JayC
TPIRfan#9821

To save time, everybody pick two numbers from 1-20, along with the smallest number you would be willing to stop at assuming you are in the lead.

19 and 15, stop at 65. I'll take 11 for my bonus spin if I should get there.
Title: Re: "Everything Old is New Again" - gamesurf's Price is Right
Post by: gamesurf on May 01, 2020, 01:26:23 PM
And tpir04 winds up and lets it loose!

tpir04 is looking for redemption from Balance Game, to go to the showcase and do some more winning.

And it's coming to a stop... a 75 would be a decent score... Go! Go!

40 cents. And tpir04 is taking a second spin with little hesitation.

You're in a nice spot... a 55 would be terrific, but will it stop...

Yes! 95 cents, that's a terrific score! tpir04, take your position over there by the leaderboard.

I don't see any strategic point to wait to say my numbers, so after JayC goes, I'm just going to go 1,1, and 1 for a bonus spin, stop at whatever ties the leader.

2, 7, and 9 in case of a spinoff. Stop only at 95 or a dollar.

JayC, who played Safe Crackers so beautifully, is using a very light touch. He's trying to finesse this spin by the looks of it…

*wheel moves less than halfway around, landing on the 45. Light boos from the audience*

And this spin isn’t going to count. Gotta get it all the way around at least once. Here, let me help you.

*JayC and gamesurf pull on the wheel together, with one hand each. The wheel nearly makes it all the way around, but falls short just two spaces. Boos from the audience grow louder*

HEY! SHUT UP! It’s a big wheel, it’s really heavy!

I hate being booed! Let’s double our efforts! We’ll edit it out in post.

*gamesurf and JayC grab as high as they can and pull hard with both hands—and it makes a full rotation. Audience cheers and applauds as the wheel slows down…*

95 is a tough score to beat, but look at that dollar coming down!  Go! Go!

Not quite. A nickel. You'll need to spin again, of course, so let’s do it together. Ready… go!

*gamesurf and JayC pull down on the wheel together*

Is it going to make it all the way around? Yes, it is, just barely…

Uh oh! Not that, not now!

*MRRP*

JayC, I’m sorry, the dollar came one spin too late. But you’ve won some great stuff playing Safe Crackers, and thank you for being on The Price is Right today.

TPIRfan#9821, you’re up! TPIRfan did quite well playing Master Key, and by the looks of things he’s aiming for that dollar to win some extra cash…

*TPIRfan#9821 tries to finesse the spin as JayC did, but it, also, fails to go all the way around. The wheel makes about ¾ of a revolution and stops at 10.*

And that spin isn’t going to count, either. All right, you know the drill, you and me together. One, two, three, pull!

*The wheel makes a weak spin, but it still has some momentum as makes a full revolution*

He’s looking to beat a 95, and that dollar is coming around, but it's got a ways to go...

And of course, you'll want to spin again. What’s the record for most attempted spins in a Showcase Showdown? This is remarkable. You all would make terrific Wheel of Fortune contestants. Anyways, you need a 75 or a 70 to go to the showcase. I’ll help you on this one, too.

There goes the 70… and, TPIRfan, it’s looking like once again that dollar is coming around when we don't want it.

*MRRP!*

Nothing to be ashamed about—between your perfect bid and cleaning up on Master Key, you’ve still had a terrific day. Thanks for being on the show, and enjoy your truck!

tpir04, sit tight, you’re on your way to the showcase!

Folks, if you want to see a taping of The Price is Right, here’s how you do it! Take it away, AnnouncerTron!

LiteBulb, I don't know if wpghi is feeling like you're doing much of a favor!

And the Actual Retail Price----

*silence*

Just checking for the buzzer. Guess this means it's more than $1. You're still alive, wpghi5--if it's $2, you've got a shot!

And the Actual Retail Price is...

Plinkoman wins it!

123123123 was close. Once again, a case of the right numbers in the wrong quantities. Plinkoman, follow me over here! What does your shirt say? "Always recycle... unless you're recycling Time Is Money into an even bigger trainwreck than before." Well, I have good news for you! You're not going to be playing Time is Money!

Instead we have another terrific game, with another terrific prize for you. And that prize looks like a ping pong table. Won’t you tell us about it, AnnouncerTron?

*cue Amen, Brother Herbert* (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AR-QHT90TkA)

Sure will! From Butterfly, this tennis table is regulation size and easy to use! Each half folds independently and has adjustable feet to ensure a level playing surface. You get it all from Butterfly!

You’re playing a game called Swap Meet. Take a close look at this ping pong table and try to estimate what you think it might cost. It could win you not one, not two, but three more prizes!

Open up that door and show him what we’ve got!

*cue 67* (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1h8a-vSrBDw)

A stylish digital video kiosk, a freestanding gas range, and a table & chair combo!

First, this 55 inch digital LCD multimedia kiosk is a terrific alternative to traditional print signage options! Featuring an interactive IR touchscreen, Wifi and Bluetooth connectivity, this colorful totem is the perfect advertising tool to reach your audience!

Next, from Whirlpool, this freestanding gas range has a 5 cubic foot capacity, five stovetop burners, and self-cleaning oven capabilities!

Finally, make a statement with the contemporary style of this metal table & chairs set! Containing 4 chairs and restaurant-style seating, this set is fashionable and useful both indoors and outdoors! Back to you, 'surf!

Your task is to swap the ping pong table for something of equal value. Which is the prize the ping pong table should be swapped for—the table and chair set, the range, or the digital poster kiosk?

If you pick the prize that is equal in value, you’ll win not only the ping pong table, but all the prizes on stage!

He's thrilled! Thrilled, he says! Plinkoman, think of how much more thrilled you'll be if you see a Swap Meet win with YOU involved!

Normally we reveal the price in the door first, but today I'm feeling especially curious about this ping pong table. What is the price of the ping pong table?

$970. So that, means, Plinkoman, that if that range is $970, you're going to win all four prizes! Think of what you can do with those prizes... a range, a table & chairs set, AND a digital kiosk to go with your ping pong table! For everything on stage...

What...

is...

the...

price?

*BUZZ!*

No. I'm sorry, Plinkoman; I hope this hasn't ruined Swap Meet for you as well.

What was the prize that was $970?

It was the table & chair set.

Plinkoman, you're not through yet. We'll see you later in the Showcase Showdown, so don't go too far.

Not often we have the first three bids within $130 of each other. A case of great minds thinking alike? Or have you left a gap that 123 will now profit from?

The Actual Retail Price is...

$1,000--LiteBulb's gambit pays off!

Well done. Now be honest--how much of that bid was thinking that those pots and pans were $970, and how much of it was that number being on your brain from the last game?

Whatever your thinking, it paid off for you.

We have a lovely prize for you--you can win THIS!

The Harley Street Rod--a fantastic prize worth $9,494!

And in order to drive home in that beautiful motorcycle, LiteBulb88, you need to run up a very specfic grocery tab.

If you can spend between $20 and $22 on these groceries, you will walk out of here a winner.

We have five grocery items that you may use to do that, won't you tell us about them, AnnouncerTron?

*cue 72* (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7eRXl1DPrbs)

First, survive the summer with a 200 count bottle of Bayer aspirin! Headache? Try Bayer! Use as directed.

From Febreze, fabric spray! Don't mask, truly eliminate odors with extra-strength Febreze. A perfect passive-aggressive gift for your hygenically-challenged loved ones.

This 4 lb bag of sugar is perfect for all your baking needs.

Hungry? Snack on the run with Bumble Bee Tuna's Snack on the Run! Contains Tuna and 6 crackers for a quick bite, anytime.

And, From Sony, this DVC camcorder videotape will power all your cameras from 2003. How did you find this prize? I'm surprised they make these! Our advice--if you can actually make use of these, sell the cookware or the motorcycle or something and buy a more modern camera.

Remember, if you go over $22 at any time, the game is over. You do not have to hit the $20-$22 target with just one purchase, you may use any combination of items to zero in on the range. A little of this, a pinch of that. But ultimately the strategy you choose to use is up to you.

Tell me an item you want to start with, and what quantity.

It was a combination of thinking the pots and pans were around $1,000, seeing multiple prizes on this show being $970, and the fact that $970 was the bid that got me on stage on 4/15/19 :-).

As for this game, I'll start with 2 Bayers.

First, from Whirlpool, this freestanding gas range has a 5 cubic foot capacity, five stovetop burners, and self-cleaning oven capabilities!

Next, this high-power LED spotlight and output brightness up to 350 luments, holds a charge good for up to 20 hours of light, and includes a stand for hands-free lighting!

And, from Butterfly, this tennis table is regulation size and easy to use! Each half folds independently and has adjustable feet to ensure a level playing surface. You get it all from Butterfly!

Finally, Adam, we have one more thing that you may be able to use...

A NEW TRUCK!

*truck cue* (http://1KKHFkQ-Gso)

It’s the 2020 Ford Ranger XL! Features a 2.3L engine and rear wheel drive plus cruise control, power mirrors, carpet flooring, pickup box extender, splash guards, bed cover, sliding rear window, remote key fob, and Ford Co-Pilot 360. The Ford Ranger!

Yes! It's true! And, if I'm not mistaken, that's the same Ford Ranger that TPIRfan#9821 won earlier in the show, so you already know that it's a very winnable truck!

Adam, I'm going to spoil some of those prices for you. The price of the range is $765. The price of the spotlight is $48. And the price of the ping pong table is $970. The price of the truck, however, has some missing digits. Your task is to line up the other prices so that the price of the truck is in that yellow window!

If you can line everything up correctly, you're going to hauling a range, spotlight, and ping pong table home in the bed of your new Ford Ranger!

Ready, Adam? Line 'em Up!

No, not quite yet. But I have good news, for you, Adam. There is a second chance built into this game! You'll get one more try to Line 'em Up properly. And I'm going to give you a hint this time. Of the three numbers you lined up, how many are correct?

Well, in a way that makes your job easier, because now you know you have to change all three of them!

Adam, if that price tag reveals a price of $26,490, you've won the truck and all of the trimmings that go with it! For all the marbles...

No! No. Adam, I'm sorry. It was a $27,000 automobile. You had the other numbers right. I'm sorry we couldn't give it to you.

But you're not through yet. You'll have a chance to do some more winning in the Showcase Showdown, which is coming up right after these dotted lines!

Contestants not appearing on stage will receive...

A gift certificate from Morgan Mint! Quality collectibles featuring classic American coins and official Elvis Presley memorabilia honoring the king of rock 'n roll. From the Morgan Mint!

And, a supply of Pine-sol! Now with three terrific new scents, Pine-sol's cleaning power is three times that of the leading competitor! Choose the power of Pine-sol, the smell of clean!

And now, here's gamesurf with our Showcase Showdown!

Thank you very much! I'm here with Plinkoman, I'm here with tpiradam, and I'm here with LiteBulb88! And during the break, we dove through the records, and I think that this moment right now is making Showcase Showdown history!

*cheers and applause*

I do believe, that for the first time in the history of the HYO forum, this is the first ever Showcase Showdown on golden-road.net that features three contestants with spinning stars next to their names!

*cheers and applause*

I swear the IUFBs weren't rigged or anything, it just happened that way. Anyways, since you're all alumni of the real show, you all should know how the Showcase Showdown works by now. Closest to $1.00 in one spin or a combination of two spins goes to the showcase. Plinkoman, you are up first!

(As before, give a number 1-20 to spin the wheel, along with the lowest number you would be willing to stop at, assuming you are in the lead.)

Spinning order:

Plinkoman

Yay for being part of g-r.net history!! My numbers will be 8, 10, 11, and 5. Use them in order for whatever spins I may have. As for stay/spin again, I'll stay if I'm in the lead and spin again if I'm behind. If I'm tied with exactly 1 person, then I'll stay if and only if the value we're tied at is 55 cents or more. If I'm tied with 2 people, I'll stay if and only if the value we're tied at is 70 cents or more.

And Plinkoman winds up, and he's looking for that dollar, and it won't come around again, but you may have something nice here...

85 cents! And Plinkoman is quite content with that.

tpiradam, you're up! 85 cents is the score to beat!

And tpiradam's coming up--he's won some jewelry, but I'm sure he'd like to keep winning, and--

*tpiradam attempts to finnesse his spin, but his spin only makes it 3/4 of the way around*

And I'm afraid that spin won't do, Adam, you've got to get it all the way around. I'll help you out. Ready? 3, 2, 1, GO!

That looks more like it! A 95 would be great, but will it quite get there?

55. It takes 85 to do it! Another spin coming right up. Ready? 3, 2, 1, GO!

Back in the big numbers territory. You need a 30 to tie, 45 for the dollar. There goes 40...

And here comes 30, for the tie, but will it stop?

No.

*MRRP!*

tpiradam, thank you for appearing on the show today. It's been a pleasure to have you on. Take care!

LiteBulb88, you're up! Give that wheel a spin!

*LiteBulb88 winds up and gives it a big spin--the wheel goes around at least four times*

LiteBulb's had some energy drinks today, and it's going around! LiteBulb played Grocery Game expertly, and he's hoping to take those pricing skills to the Showcase...

But, from the looks of things, it's going to take another spin to get him there.

45 cents. Looking for anywhere from 40 to 55. And LiteBulb doesn't need to be told twice, there the wheel goes again!

*wheel makes another four revolutions*

Another huge spin! I'd say there's another show that needs to tape, but nobody on this board watches Young and Restless, so I'm sure they won't mind getting bumped a few minutes back...

That 45 once more would be great, but there it goes...

LiteBulb88, enjoy your motorcycle!

*Dig We Must* (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sk4ki_e6ZmU)

Plinkoman, good news! You'll be joining us in the Showcases momentarily! We've got some FANTASTIC prizes waiting for you, coming up after these words!

[Host note: Yes, there's a rhyme and reason as to whether the wheel makes it all the way around--stay tuned til the end of the show if you want it revealed]

Contestants not appearing on stage will receive...

I'm kind of outraged that the consolation prizes didn't include a soap and sanitizer dispenser. Or, say, a supply of Bayer aspirin.

(Actually, in the last days of when the consolation prizes were prizes, while some were higher and some were lower, the non-grocery prizes would usually run about $300–$400 apiece. So that hammock and e-reader would make a good pair of consolations.)

I am back on stage with tpir04, who is the top winner in our Showcases today!

And right by his side, is the day’s runner-up… Plinkoman!

Both of these contestants, you may say, are comeback kids seeking a triumph! tpir04, you may remember, made a quick exit out of Contestant’s Row but became crushed when the scales of life did not line up in Balance Game. And Plinkoman had a confident decision but was burned by a stove in Swap Meet. But that’s not the end of the story—oh no, not by a long shot. Both are hungry for redemption, and eager to take another swing at some additional winning—and both have earned the right to bid on one of our fabulous showcases!

As I’m sure you both know, each of you will be presented with terrific showcase filled with thousands of dollars of wonderful prizes. The one of you who bids nearer to the actual retail price of your own showcase will win it. But if you are the winner, and you are $250 or less away from the retail price of your own showcase, you will win both showcases!

Pay close attention to this first showcase, because it could go to either one of you. Good luck!

This showcases contains prizes revealed as our producer realizes the CBS execs aren’t happy with how Recycling Awareness Week has been going so far!

“You’ve performed a bait and switch,” the CBS execs said—“Most of the prizes you’ve offered so far aren’t environmentally friendly at all!”

“I'm glad you brought that up,” said the producer; “Why don’t we take a seat and discuss this… at the table of this 100% recycled patio furniture!”

From Berlin Gardens, this eco-friendly outdoor patio set is the complete outdoor dining package! Comes with four swivel chairs, all designed for maximum comfort, two benches, and a table, all made from 100% recycled poly-lumber materials supported on an aluminum frame!

“Well, that’s not enough.” “You can’t just pay lip service to recycling and expect this to get on the air. You have to take this seriously!”

"I hear you loud and clear!" said the producer. "Promoting recycling is an art form. In fact, we could be taking inspiration from... this recycled mural!"

Lovingly crafted by an artist who creates pixelated works exclusively out of salvaged keyboard keys, this stunning mural brings 4500 keyboard keys back to life in a replication of Michelangelo's famous "Creation of Adam" painting. This mural, which measures 33" by 72", includes hidden words and messages spelled out at a close level, while demonstrating the power of giving secondhand materials a life of their own!

“Prizes like those that are great,” said the execs, “but not everything can be made of 100% recycled materials. You need to encourage people to get as much use of their products as possible.  As the saying goes, ‘Use it up, wear it out. Make it do, or do without.”

“I agree!” said the producer. “And the perfect way to send that message, is by ending a showcase with…

A RESTORED CAR!”

The 1948 Studebaker Champion! With its distinctive four-part wrap around rear window, this classic Studebaker includes a complete restoration of its interior, paint job, and chrome, while coming equipped with its original working heater, AM radio, and clock. Enjoy the then-futuristic designs of the classic postwar vehicle, and the many features that made this car ahead of its time, including pull-type door handles, no-glare instruments, self-adjusting brakes, and a two-piece panoramic windshield! It's the 1948 Studebaker Champion!

And this showcase, featuring prizes revealed as the CBS execs finally become convinced that Recycling Awareness Week isn't going to end up embarrassing their network, can be yours if the Price is Right!

And tpir04, being the top winner, you get the option! You can either bid on that showcase, or pass it on to Plinkoman and take your chances bidding on Showcase #2. What would you like to do?

Against my better judgement, I'll bid, being as though I don't think the second showcase will be any better. $35,700 please.

*DING!*

Thank you for the vote of confidence! :D

Plinkoman, I promise you, we don't have junk. We have saved some WONDERFUL prizes for you to bid on. Some may even say we've saved the best for last. Plinkoman--take a look at your showcase!

This showcase contains prizes revealed as our producer, confident that he’s done the minimum amount necessary to please the execs, decides to go back to offering the prizes he REALLY wants to offer! And it starts with a fun… ping pong table!

From Cornilleau, this outdoor ping pong table provides superior bounce, is regulation size, and is easy to use! Each half folds independently and has a 16-point locking system! You get it all from Cornilleau!

But a ping pong table, great as it is, can’t comprise a showcase all on its own. It needs to be paired with something exciting, something that will add pizzazz and make the package more enticing. And what better way to do that to also offer a terrific… new motorcycle!

Power through the streets with style, with the Kawasaki Ninja H2 SX SE+! This stylish hot rod comes equipped with 4-cylinder, 998cc engine! Comes equipped with a wide variety of Electronic Rider Aids, including traction control, cornering management function, intelligent anti-lock brakes, quick shift, cruise control, and LED cornering lights!

Finally, even with those two prizes, everybody will be expecting you to end the show with an exciting climax. How do you follow up a ping pong table and a motorcycle?

Well, there’s only one thing that is up for the job!

You've got to offer a vehicle, but not just any vehicle! There's one specific make and model that's clearly a cut above all the rest!

You simply cannot top the thrill of offering…

a FORD RANGER!

It’s the 2000 Ford Ranger XL! This baby may not be new--in fact, it has over 210,000 miles on it--but don’t be put off! It’ll still haul whatever you need to haul! Comes equipped with 4 wheel drive, automatic transmission, dual front airbags, a stepside pickup bed, in-dash single-disk CD player, plus of those little two flip down chairs in the back of the cab! The 2000 Ford Ranger!

And this showcase, which puts heavy, heavy emphasis on the second word in "Recycling AWARENESS Week", can be yours if the Price is Right!

Plinkoman, for better or for worse, that is your showcase! What do you bid on it?

Notes

As you’ve figured out, the goal behind the episode was to reuse a few prizes as much as possible

--without making the game setups totally trivial
--in a lineup that built upon itself that went along
--while maintaining something of a normal lineup (one GP game, one SP game, timings, etc.)

The Showcase Showdown formula was actually surprisingly simple. Spins were determined by taking the position where the wheel was left off, and advancing it the following number of spaces:
n + c + 2^r

n = the number chosen by the player (1-20)
c = the number of characters in the player’s name
r = the number of “recycled” characters in a player’s name (characters that appear more than once)

For example, if each player were to choose the number 8, the wheel would advance:

gamesurf: 8 + 8 + 2^0 spaces, or 17 spaces.
Therealcu2010: 8 + 13 + 2^4 spaces, or 37 spaces.
123123123: 8 + 9 + 2^9 spaces. The wheel would advance 529 spaces. “It’s about to fly off its hinges! Call Young and Restless…”

So why did so many spins fall short? It was a combination of 1) people picking unusually small numbers, and 2) players won their way on stage with short names or names with all unique characters. Luckily the formula had contingencies for that to keep things fair:

If the wheel advanced less than 20 spaces, the spin did not get all the way around and doesn’t count, and the host would “help” them on the respin. Their previous spin was repeated, except this time adding a “gamesurf” spin to the contestant’s efforts: (n + 8 + 2^0, or n+9). (If THAT spin fell short, the host says something like “I hate being booed! We’re gonna double our efforts!”, and the previous spin was repeated except every instance of c was replaced with 2c. This guaranteed the wheel would advance at least 22 spaces.)

Obviously, any Showcase Showdowns in the future are going to have a different formula, so don't think you'll be able to get an instant $1.00 just by repeating this :-D

As for other notes? Uh... it was a fun lineup to build!

Once again, thanks for helping bring this show to life! I had a lot of fun planning it, and I hope you had a lot of fun watching and playing it! You can plan for a lot of things in advance, but you can’t plan for a great audience, and you guys certainly provided! Thank you so much for your comments and participation. Until next time--so long!
