I would like to know from members all across the globe the funniest and most ridiculous answers you've ever heard given on a TV quiz/game show.
-
From Press Your Luck
Peter Tomarken: If I can make it there, I can make it anywhere. Which state has this slogan?
(Contestant buzzes in)
Contestant: Phoenix.
-
First one that comes to mind:
Family Feud (Dawson era):
Fast Money Round Question: What month of pregnancy does a woman begin to "show"?
Answer given: September.
-
Family Feud (Karn):
Richard Karn: Name a word that some people use in place of a cussword.
(Family member buzzes in)
Contestant: (*BLEEP*)!
-
The funniest game show episode I've ever seen was on our Family Fortunes (Max Bygraves) in 1983 where a contestant answered 'turkey' to every question in Big Money. I'll post a recap of this episode in full soon.
-
From Jeopardy! (Jennings era, don't know the answer):
Alex: Ken?
Ken Jennings: What's a hoe?
Alex: No.
(*slight pause, audience laughter ensues*)
Alex: Whoa, whoa, Ken, they teach you that in Utah?
-
Another bad answer from Karn's version of the Feud is this:
"Name something you feel before you buy it."
Contestant said: "Excited."
-
Hollywood Squares (Bergeron, Season 2)
(A five-square win is in progress, but Gilbert is making things difficult!)
Contestant: I agree/disagree (it's wrong...)
Gilbert Gottfried: YOU FOOL!
(*audience loud laughter and applause*)
-
Trebek: This term for a long-handled gardening tool can also mean an immoral pleasure seeker. Ken?
Ken Jennings: What's a ho?
Trebek: No... Whoa! Whoa! Whoa.... They teach you that in school in Utah, huh?!
Funniest. Answer. EVER. (Or in this case, question)
-
Press Your Luck, big board round.
Contestant: Whammies, stay away, you creeps and STOP!
Peter Tomarken: "Stop at a Whammy!"
(after losing all the money) Peter Tomarken: Uhhh, Allen, don't call the Whammies "creeps" because I don't think they like it.
-
Here's one from the Combs era of Family Feud:
"Name a birthday that men dread the most."
Contestant said: "Their wife's."
-
Press Your Luck - February 26, 1985: Last spin
Jim Hess (shouting): NO WHAMMIES--STOP!
Peter Tomarken: Stop at a Whammy!
Jim Hess: GEEZE! F***! S***!
(*foghorn sounds, Jim's window closes*)
Peter Tomarken: ...Pamela, you're our champ for today with $7,278...we'll come back to talk to you about this one right after this.
-
1971, Hollywood Squares:
Peter (to Charley Weaver): Every night before he went to bed, George Washington would always put his false teeth into something. What?
Charley: Martha!
1972, Hollywood Squares:
Peter (to Paul Lynde): According to Johnny Carson's ex-wife Joanne, after the divorce he sent her a copy of a best-selling book. Which one?
Paul: "Shaft"!
-
From Family Feud (either Dawson or Combs, I don't remember):
Question: Name a country in South America
Contestant: Africa!
-
I'd have to go with that clip from the Britsh Family Feud seen on many of the compilations where they ask what a person would not do even once, and the contestant answers, "Sex on a train."
-
Family Feud(Karn), yesterday's show.
Fast Money Round(Player 1)
Question: Name a chore that kids must do everyday.
Answer: Mow the Lawn
Fast Money Round(Player 2)
Question: Name a chore that kids must do everyday.
Answer: Watch TV
-
Match Game super match - Cuckoo _______
Contestant - Cuckoo Fran and Ollie
-
Family Feud:
"Name a number that you aren't likely to forget."
"Seven."
::puts head down::
-
From Dawson "Family Feud":
"Name an invention that has replaced stairs."
"The wheel."
That's the stupidest answer in game show history.
The funniest answer? I agree with Madonna on Ken Jennings' "What's a ho(e)?"
-
I have another one from Jeopardy!:
"If a Japanese 'isha' (doctor) asks you to stick out your 'shita' he means this."
Contestant:
"What is your behind?"
-
From the the fast money round on the English Family Fued:
Q: Name the first thing you buy at the store.
A: Turkey.
Q: Name something you take to the beach.
A: Turkey.
Q: Name a food you stuff.
A: Turkey!
-
Here's another answer from the British show Family Fortunes:
"Name something people take from hotels as a souvenir."
Contestant said:
"The Lamps."
-
From Dawson Feud
Name a question such as how old are you...
(blonde girl rings in)
AHHHH... 18!
(strike)
Dawson then reads the full question: Name a question such as how old are you, that you might answer with a lie.
Other woman: I would say about 50.
(later during same faceoff)
Man: I'm 47 (I think don't quote me on this one)
-
I've got a couple:
From Bert's Family Feud in Australia:
Bert: "Give me an affectionate term you might call your partner."
Contestant: "Buddy!"
(synthesized version of UK Family Fortunes "uh-oh" sound)
From Dawson-era US Feud (another classic):
Richard: "Name something your neighbor has that you wished you had."
Contestant: "A beautiful wife."
(DING!)
Richard: "Gene, check the papers for the next couple of days and see if well-known glass manufacturer has been killed." :D
-
This is a YouTube clip from Tattletales, aired July 5, 1974. The question to the ladies is "You're the managing editor of Playgirl magazine. Who would you want for next month's centerfold?"
Listen to Dick Gautier's prediction of how Barbara Stuart (his wife) will answer, and Barbara's subsequent response.
Tattletales clip (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hCprr3L_O1M)
-
Here's another from Family Fortunes:
"Name a game that uses a black ball."
Contestant 1 said: "Hockey."
Contestant 2 said: "Darts."
-
There is also, of course, a certain Newleywed Game response. I won't quote it here, as it's not exactly appropriate for youngsters.
-
From Dawson Feud:
Richard: "Name any type of Bear"
Male Contestant: "Yogi"
(Laughter ensues and Richard pauses and smiles)
-
BRB_TheFireball wrote:
From Dawson "Family Feud":
"Name an invention that has replaced stairs."
"The wheel."
That's the stupidest answer in game show history.
That question/answer was on today's Family Feud with Richard Dawson, believe it or not. Funny.
-
Here's yet another one from Family Fortunes:
"Name a reason for standing up quickly"
Contestant said:
"To go to church."
-
Dawson Family Feud: (Fast Money)
Name an animal with three letters in its name.
Contestant 1: "Frog"
Contestant 2: "Alligator"
-
Here's one from the U.S. version of The Weakest Link:
"Who are the three cartoon mascots for Rice Krispies cereal?"
Contestant said:
"Crispy and Crunch."
-
family feud (louie anderson version)
louie: name something you put in your trunk that you have trouble puting in your glove compartment
constest "uh...body, i don't know"
-
Here's yet another from Family Fortunes:
"Name something associated with the sea."
Contestant 1 said:
"Deck Chairs."
Contestant 2 said:
"Coffin." She thought he meant the letter "C".
-
Family Feud:
"A state that has the word 'new' in its name."
"New-braska"
-
Here are some
Family Feud:
Q: Besides diapers, name something a baby wears
A: Rompers
Q: Name a body part people have two of
A: Breasts
Wheel of Fortune 2000
_NTEST_NE
A contestant guesses "antestone"
-
From an episode of Wheel of Fortune (Toss-Up)
MINERS A_D H_ _ S
(*contestant rings in*)
Contestant: MINERS AND HOES!
(audience laughs)
Pat: You know you're on Wheel of Fortune, right?
-
Here's one from the Louie version of "Feud":
Louie: Name a part of the body that gets bigger as adults grow older.
Contestant: Penis.
-
Match Game
Q: The Police Commissioner said, "I think Batman and Robin are _______."
A: Queer
-
Press Your Luck
Q: "If I can make it there, I can make it anywhere." What city does that describe?
A: Phoenix
-
From a 1970s episode of Now You See It
Host: Parts of a sex duo. Letter...
(*contestant rings in*)
Contestant: Man.
Host: No.
(*audience laughs with host*)
-
Here's one I bet not a lot of people remember...
Bob, to a Check Game contestant: "Well, about how much do you think that piano costs?"
Contestant: "Oh, five, six thousand dollars."
edmojautis wrote:
From Dawson Feud:
Richard: "Name any type of Bear"
Male Contestant: "Yogi"
(Laughter ensues and Richard pauses and smiles)
That's not nearly as funny as what actually happened. It was during Fast Money...
Richard: "One of the Three Bears."
Contestant: "Yogi."
Richard then proceeded to completely break down (although not nearly as badly as during the "September" incident), after which he pointed to the contestant's Air Force uniform and said, "this man's flying airplanes for us."
When they were revealing the answers, Richard narrated that one with, "One of the Three Bears; #1 answer was 'Mama;' you gave her illegitimate son, 'Yogi.' It happened during hibernation; Papa was shocked."
-
The WOF A BUNCH OF PILL-PUSHERS incident comes to mind.
Another one from Dawseon Feud;
Name something that can kill a party
Contestant: A gun
-
Another one which I remember from the same Dawson Feud episode as that last one:
Dawson: Name something that is prohibited on most beaches.
Contestant: Sex!
-
Here are a couple of Family Feud answers from the final show:
Q: Name a part of a telephone
A: The bottom part
Q: How old do you think Ronald Reagan is?
A: 80
Here is another one from "Wheel"
TEMPTING _FFER
A contestant guesses "TEMPTING EFFER"
-
Yeah, the "Wheel of Fortune" slip-up mentioned earlier comes to my mind as well.
I think the puzzle looked something like this:
"A GR-U- -F --LL --SH-RS" (If I got it wrong, let me know)
The contestant guesses "A GROUP OF PILL PUSHERS"!
Pat's response: "This is WHEEL OF FORTUNE Joe!"
-
Here's one from Family Fortunes:
"Name a character from Alice in Wonderland."
Contestant said:
"The Tin Man."
The host commented:
"Yes, and Alice had a little dog named Toto."
-
One of the funnniest answers I've ever seen, one that deserves to be in one of those "Game Shows Gone Bananas" retrospectives, came on a special TV-themed episode of Greed (airdate: 3/3/00).
As cut-and-pasted from the Greed: The Series Fan Page (http://www.geocities.com/stormseekersite2/greed/tvgreed.html), it went something like this:
Dennis [contestant] - for $25,000: Which show did NOT feature Chuck Woolery as a regular host?
Is it...Love Connection, Scrabble, Wheel of Fortune, or Singled Out?
Dennis says Wheel of Fortune, Darrell [team captain] accepts it, and they're absolutely WRONG!! Of COURSE it was Singled Out!
I love this moment because: 1) the question, about Chuck Woolery, 2) was read by Chuck Woolery, 3) to a contestant who prefaced his answer by saying he was a big fan of Chuck Woolery and had followed his career, and 4) because the answer was incorrect, the team was eliminated; since this was the first question, three of the team members didn't even have a chance to play (as per the rules of Greed).
-
From Millionaire:
$100: Hannibal crossed the Alps using what type of animal?
Robby Roseman used the 50-50 to narrow it down to llamas and elephants, and he chose Llamas as his Final Answer.
WRONG!!!!!!! The answer was Elephants.
Match Game:
(Blank) Tennessee. The contestant, both nervous and stupid, picked "Mississippi."
Wheel of Fortune:
DONE WITH ONE HAND (Gone With The Wind)
And of course the stupidest guess in Wheel history, when that lady asked for an "S" in THE THRILL OF VICTORY AND THE AGONY OF DEFEAT, and cost her $62,400!!
And of course, Family Feud:
Q. Something associated with the show Who Wants To Be A Millionaire
A. Bob Barker
Q. First thing you take off after work
A. Your underwear
Richard later asked the contestant, "What time do you get off from work?"
Q. A state with good skiing
A. Florida
Q. A city in the state of Georgia
A. Alabama
(From the Super Teens Week in 1984)
Q. (to Missy Gold) Name a month with the best weather
A. January
Richard said it's nice in January...if you're an eskimo.
Jonathan Allen
-
To be fair, I don't think there's such a thing as a stupid contestant. It's just a case of nerves getting to you, and you tend to lose your mind or go blank up there.
-
Well there's certainly a lot of contestants who seem to see the funny side of it, no more so than on Family Fortunes (Feud). It things went right all the time on a gameshow, I dread to think how boring the show would become.
-
I don't know about funniest EVER, but I've always thought the Wheel of Fortune bonus round from 1997ish where the puzzle was GUARDIAN and the contestant guessed things such as CARD-ON, WAR-DON, and incredibly, FART. Pat quickly replied, "banana fanna bo-bart!" He also told her she did her best and did some exploratory solving after it was revealed that she lost a Camaro convertible.
-
And of course the stupidest guess in Wheel history, when that lady asked for an "S" in THE THRILL OF VICTORY AND THE AGONY OF DEFEAT, and cost her $62,400!!
That's not funny...that's extremely disappointing...at least in my opinion.
-
DONE WITH ONE HAND (Gone With The Wind)
Q. First thing you take off after work
A. Your underwear
Must have been the same contestant. :-D
And that $64K Wheel blunder is kind of ironic given what the puzzle was. I'm not saying it's funny, but it's almost fitting.
-
From yesterday's Combs "Feud" on GSN:
"Name something people can't resist touching."
Contestant: "Your spouse"
-
Was that a generic "your," or was the contestant specifically referring to Ray's spouse?
:hammer:
-
This was from Wheel of Fortune. During a toss-up, a person mis-solved AN ACT OF KIDNESS (I am not sure how much of the puzzle was actually lit up) as AN ACE OF KIDNEYS. I found the audio of it off of a website with stupid answers from various quiz shows. Also, on The Weakest Link, they asked something about the 1994 figure skating scandal, and the contestant guessed Monica Lewinsky. The correct answer was Tonya Harding.
-
Family Feud (Karn):
Fast Money Question: Name a man's name that starts with the letter "K."
Contestant: Kentucky Fried Chicken.
Family Feud (Harvey):
Fast Money Question: We asked 100 men, name a part of your body that's bigger now than it was when you were 16.
Contestant: Your penis!
-
It has been 4991 days since this thread was last posted in, just 9 days shy of its 5000th anniversary

Roger, is that a new record? A 13-years-and-change bump?

Roger, is that a new record? A 13-years-and-change bump?
This thread (http://www.golden-road.net/index.php/topic,43.msg476030.html#msg476030) that was bumped a month ago by a troll was 5023 days in between.
(P.S. thanks gamesurf for the link).
-
From the 1983-1994 UK version of "Blockbusters":
Host Bob Holness:"What O is the generic word for any living animal or plant, including bacteria and viruses?"
Contestant: "Orgasm"(audience laughter)
Holness: "There are reasons, which I won't go into, that I can't accept that particular answer."
The correct answer was organism.
-
Methinks the people digging up these old threads are attempting to be the one to bump the oldest thread on the site, thus creating a new record.
Now if you'll excuse moi, I shall return to searching up the next oldest thread. :P
-
I don't really mind bumping this kind of thread because the content isn't time-sensitive, and the post that did such was on-topic.
-
My biggest issue with it is if you're going to make a 14 year bump, you gotta have better material than "Haha remember that time when the contestant said 'penis' and Steve Harvey was SHOCKED?"
-
On Family Feud, Steve Harvey asked this question: "If Steve Harvey were reincarnated, name an animal he would come back as."
Contestant: A Donkey!
-
From the Jeopardy! 2011 Tournament of Champions:
GROUP COUNTDOWN for $600: If Andy yearns for Brenda & Brenda cares about Charlene who pines for Andy, the 3 of them form one of these.
Kara Spak: What is a threesome?
(For the record, the correct response was "A love triangle.")
-
On Family Feud, Steve Harvey asked this question: "Name something any woman would prefer to see a man holding instead of the remote."
Contestant: His penis!
-
Family Feud survey: A wife might tell her husband, "I wish your (what) was like Steve Harvey's."
Contestant: Penis! (this was actually #7 as "Body/Dong.")
-
if you're going to bump, you gotta have better material than "Haha remember that time when the contestant said 'penis' and Steve Harvey was SHOCKED?"
You've been the only one adding to the thread for the last month, is there a reason you're bumping this over and over?
-
^I've been getting back into Harvey Feud recently, and I just happened to find those funny moments that I thought were worth sharing (and had me LOLing so hard as well!).
-
Thanks for sharing, howierules, but sometimes a thread should die a natural death. You've already did a 13 year bump on the thread and I don't think people saying "PENIS!!!" on Family Feud is enough to keep bumping it.
Gonna close this thread, at least for the time being.
LOCKED
-
My biggest issue with it is if you're going to make a 14 year bump, you gotta have better material than "Haha remember that time when the contestant said 'penis' and Steve Harvey was SHOCKED?"
This. Still applies. Seriously, 3/4 of the bad answers on Harvey Feud aren't even funny anymore... not like they ever were to begin with. There are only so many times contestants can reference genitalia- especially when they write surveys to get people to respond that way- before it ceases to be funny.
If all we're going to do is fill the thread with Harvey Feud dreck, well, don't.
EDIT: I see Alfonzo beat me to the lock. Since I spent so much time writing this reply, I'm gonna post it anyways.
-
No problem, CU.
I will suggest to you and howierules to watch some YouTube clips of Family Feud Canada, which is a refreshing take on how the American Family Feud USED to be played. It also reminds us that you don't always need penis jokes to be funny.
