Title: PatrickRox80's The Price is Right: Seasons (1974)
Post by: PatrickRox80 on November 29, 2019, 12:31:35 PM
This will be the last half-hour episode. Enjoy it while it lasts!

For ground rules, please refer to the opening post of my 1973 episode:

http://www.golden-road.net/index.php/topic,30470.0.html

The qualifying interview question is as follows:

The Price is Right has just finished its second successful year on the air! You're in charge of a special to celebrate the occasion. CBS, Mark Goodson and Bill Todman have opened the floor to allow celebrities to endorse the show. Who would you invite? What prizes do you want them to promote? Could any of them give Bob Barker a run for his money? It's up to you!

The reason I chose to start this now is because we're still in the middle of a holiday weekend. I'm going to keep sign-ups open until Monday, December 2 at 7:00 PM EST. I hope to start on the grounds of having seven potential contestants by that time.

With that in mind, who's in?

-The Bee Gees to model an 8-track player

All right, I'll play!

Dolly Parton models a car (Showcase theme is how to get one up on Jolene!).
World Champion bull rider Don Gay models a showcase featuring a trip to Texas and to Las Vegas to see the National Finals Rodeo in person.
Gene Wilder models a weekend getaway at a dude ranch, which will be played as a prize package in a pricing game.

Notice a country/western theme for the year 1974?  ;-)

I would like to play.

I would invite Tammy Wynette to do a 1974 Plymouth during a showcase.

I'm in.

A sort of Match Game type thing: Brett Somers offering a trip to Maine, CNR a tour of New England, Richard Dawson a trip to the UK and Betty White a brand new puppy (because that was somewhat normal at the time)

Seeing as though there aren't enough contestants, I'll jump in, but I'll skip the question, cuz' I'm out of ideas.  :oldlol:

I'll join, however I was born over 20 years after 1974, so I'm not sure who would be available to promote the show at the time.  :-D

And now, here is the star of The Price is Right, PatrickRox80!

*stands behind door number two as it opens, then jogs out on stage, accepts mic from Anitra and bows*

Me: I welcome you to The Price is Right! This is snapshot number three of the past and we're delighted that you can join us as we get closer to the present. How my hair will look when we're finished, that's a different story.

*laughter*

George, the beauties are wheeling our first item up for bids on stage. What can you tell us about it?

George: It's a lamppost!

From Gama Sonic, the Imperial II triple-head solar-powered post light has 63 LEDs which provide efficient yet environmentally-friendly lighting. Its cast aluminum post measures 78 inches in height so you can brighten your driveway, gardens or backyard boosted by its patented reflectors.

That lamppost will go to the one of you four who bids nearest to the actual retail price without going over.

The bidding will start with geniusinmath.

Actual retail price of the lamppost... $1,075.

Plinkoman, come on up here! I want you to halt right at the top of these steps for a very good reason. I want to give you a chance to win something that's making its way onto the stage right now. What is it, George?

George: It's a new car!

George: A brand new 2019 Nissan Sentra S! This sporty sedan has everything you need to live the good life with the feel of the VIP section. It comes with standard features including a 1.8-Liter 16-valve four-cylinder engine, automatic transmission, a seven-inch touchscreen display, fog lights, accent lighting and an impact sensor: the Nissan Sentra!

Me: You saw that Sentra rolling into the studio, Plinkoman. I would love for you to be driving off the stage in that. Just don't hit any doors on your way out.

*laughter*

Me: I'm going to give you seven one-dollar bills. This game is all about the Washingtons.

We call it "Lucky Seven". There are five numbers in the price of the car. The first number is...

*ding*

One. Now, you are going to guess the price of this car digit by digit. If you are right, you keep your money. If you are wrong, you have to pay me the difference of your guess in dollars. If at the end of the game you have at least one dollar left, I will sell this car to you for one dollar. Simple as that. With that in mind, what is the second number of the price of this car, Plinkoman?

Does the car come with Allstate insurance?

Who's going to run down that aisle next, George?

George: The name is gamesurf! Come on down! You are the next contestant on The Price is Right!

Me: That third spot right there is where you'll go, gamesurf. Here is the second item up for bids on this show.

George: A pasta maker!

From Kunhewuhua, this stainless steel pasta maker includes adjustable roller and cutter knobs so you can make your pasta as thick or as thin as you'd like. It also has a detachable cutting design for extra customization and 550 watts of power.

$8!

*ding*

Unorthodox bid but maybe you have something going here. Actual retail price: $659.

And tpiradam indeed wins that pasta maker! I want you up here, tpiradam. Stand right beside me at the turntable. I have a whole bunch of prizes to show you. What do we have for him?

George: A bar set, an arcade game and a fireplace!

First, entertain guests with sophistication and class with this Anderson Teak five-piece wooden bar set. The durable exterior of the table and each chair makes it formidable against the elements. The chairs fold for easy storage and the table includes storage space for glasses and drinkware.

Next, re-live the golden age of the arcade with this Ms. Pac Man/Galaga arcade cabinet. Race with your friends to beat the high score by eating pellets or shooting down alien aircraft. It operates on coin or free play and includes dip switches so you can adjust the difficulty settings.

Me: Now, there is one more prize I want you to pay special attention to. It's going to shape this pricing game, so listen carefully as George describes it.

A fireplace! Those long winter nights just got a bit cozier with this Classic Flame Astoria infrared electric fireplace. It measures 33 inches across and features a classic design with its steel grate, marble surround, realistic logs and detailed molding. It also comes with a remote control and five color options for the flames.

It's a total prize package worth $8,602!

Me: All those prizes sound good, don't they, tpiradam? You can win them all depending on what you know on some other prizes I'm prepared to offer you. Let me explain how...

The game for you is Mystery Price. Beneath that question mark is the actual retail price of that fireplace. It is the most recent prize that George described for you. In a moment, I'm going to show you another prize and I'll ask you to make a bid on it. You'll want to come as close as you can without going over. If you do that, not only do win that prize, we put that bid into your bank above the Mystery Price. If you are over, you don't win the prize and no bid gets added to your bank.

We'll do this four times. If, after the fourth prize, your bank matches or is higher than the price of that fireplace, you win that, the arcade game and the bar set. This the first item you get to bid on...

It's a vacuum. The models are wheeling that on stage. Here it comes.

(https://22eccb839e35374fb256-2040e42aee01271224a32cb55734f01b.ssl.cf2.rackcdn.com/wp-content/themes/neato-2015/assets/images/robot-vacuums/botvac-connected/botvac-connected_medium.jpg)

George: The Neato Botvac home robot vacuum cleans room to room with precision and accuracy. It has dual-cleaning modes, recharges automatically and it's Wi-Fi ready.

Me: Adam, please make a bid on that vacuum.
Title: Re: PatrickRox80's The Price is Right: Seasons (1974 - IUFB #2)
Post by: TPIRfan#9821 on December 09, 2019, 04:54:47 AM
*Peanut Gallery*

If I had to take a shot in the dark, I would say the fireplace is around $1,500. $1,500/4 is $375, so I was in a vacuum, I'd be wagering around $400 for each item. This sounds like a competitor to the Roomba, so for this item, I feel that $300 is safe, but you could probably push all the way to $399.

$279 is your bid on the vacuum. I will turn this card over and show you that its price is...

*ding*

$576. You gave yourself a lot of room on that; hopefully not too much. We do add that bid into your bank.

One down, three to go. Your next prize is...

Some picture frames. George, how about them?

This pair of digital picture frames from Aluratek, one a 15-inch screen and the other a 12-inch. Each stores 2 gigabytes of memory and can cycle through pictures, music and video files so you can preserve all your precious memories.

What is your bid on those picture frames, tpiradam?

$219 you say. Those two digital frames cost...

$330. You came a bit closer that time so you did a bit better when adding to your bank. That bid takes you to...

*ding*

$498. Two more prizes to go. Your third is...

This rug. We'll find out more about it right now.

George: This oval-shaped area rug from Ferdinand. It measures 8 feet by 10 feet in a navy floral design. Its fade-resistant and stain-resistant fabrics are durable while maintaining a soft feel under your feet.

What do you bid on that rug, tpiradam?

Your bid is $400. I will flip this card and show you the actual retail price...

*ding*

It's $589. You did a bit better there and you've added a good bid to your bank. We add that $400, and it now has...

$898 in it. This is your last chance to add money to the bank. The closer you bid to this final prize, the better.

Take a look at this umbrella stand as George describes it.

George: This hand-painted porcelain umbrella stand measures 9¼ inches in diameter and it's 19½ inches high. It will add a class of ancient China with its birds and branches.

Me: And tpiradam, what's your bid on that?

I had no idea such a thing existed. It could be any price. I’m going to take a shot in the dark and say $102
Title: Re: PatrickRox80's The Price is Right: Seasons (1974 - IUFB #2)
Post by: PatrickRox80 on December 10, 2019, 07:59:24 PM
Well, then. Let's see if it can help you win that prize package. Your bid was $102. Actual retail price...

*ding*

Three and a quarter. Another conservative bid but it puts money in the bank. You have a grand total of...

$1,000 even. Now, if the fireplace is no greater than $1,000 in price, you win the that, the arcade game and the bar set. However, no matter what happens, you get to keep the vacuum, the picture frames, the rug and the umbrella stand. I'll lift this card and tell you the price of that fireplace is...

*mrrrrrrrrrrp, losing horns*

$1,319, and you don't win. Here's another reason why games like these didn't last long. I'm sorry, tpiradam.

We'll play one more pricing game after this message for you!

Who are we about to meet next?

George: Someone by the name of TPIRfan#9821! Come on down! You are the next contestant on The Price is Right!

One chance for TPIRfan#9821 as he makes he way down to Contestant's Row. The beauties will now present the final item up for bids.

George: A game table and chairs!

The Hathaway three-in-one poker table from Kingston will make game night a pleasure for you the host and all your friends. Handcrafted with a walnut finish, it measures 48 inches in diameter and it comes with four chairs constructed from birch hardwood. The top detaches for bumper pool; included are bumpers, two cues, chalk and a table brush.

Regardless, $1,823 is your bid.

We'll see what kind of strategy works for the four of you, and I'll be sure to point it out. Actual retail price: $2,146!

TPIRfan#9821, you have won! Employing the random.org strategy sure worked out for you! Follow me back here. This is where we'll play the third pricing game of the show. Let's open those doors and show all the loot!

George: An outdoor theater, a pendant light and a power scooter!

First, EZ Inflatables, this outdoor movie screen measures 27 feet across and 22 feet high with a 11 foot by 20 foot screen. Invite the neighborhood for a movie night or the big game on your front lawn. It also comes with a 1.5-horsepower blower, anchoring spikes, vinyl patches and cement glue.

Second, from Tiffany Lamps, this trillum and violet inverted pendant lamp. Its shade adds a touch of elegance with its brilliantly hand-crafted gems forming a bouquet of ornate flowers. Its curved support features a Mahogany Bronze finish and it takes three 60-watt bulbs so the colors can stand out.

And finally, enjoy advanced mobility with the Drive Medical Ventura 4 scooter! This long-range scooter can reach speeds up to 6 miles an hour and can travel up to 22 miles on a single charge. It also comes equipped with red and blue interchangeable panels and a basket in the trunk for easy, convenient storage.

Me: All those prizes can be yours, TPIRfan#9821. All you have to do is tell me which of the three is the Most Expensive.

Is it #1, the outdoor theater...

#2, the pendant lamp...

or #3, the power scooter?

Sweet, more prizes that I have absolutely no sense of direction for! :P

I want to say that the inflatable screen is nothing, despite being very large. I think I'll go with the lamp, since I think a scooter can be really cheap also.

You have chosen the lamp...

Symbolically, that podium is now lit. Janice, show us the price of #3, the scooter...

*ding*

$1,929. Anitra, flip the price tag on #1, the theater.

*ding*

That costs $2,565. If #2, the lamp is worth more than $2,565, you win all three prizes. Anitra and Janice, would you each grab one end of that card and flip it?

*bell sequence, main theme*

You're a winner! It's $3,597! Enjoy all three of those prizes! I have a feeling we're going to see you in the Showcases real soon. It's coming up after these words!

Finally, Janice and Anitra have settled on doing both. They've reached an agreement on how. What better way to get wet and wild on their new party boat?!
