FlipFlopper7769’s TPiR Trip Report!!! DAY 2/SHOW 2 (Of the Day)

The first show of the day ended at about 2:30 when Rich announced that there was more room in the second taping. My friend and I quickly scooted to the back of the line and received priority numbers 329 & 330 respectively. They’re ordering them up to 340 now and then switching to standbys because of the fifteen extra chairs on the platform in the back, FYI, so we JUST made it into the taping. Originally, we weren’t even planning on going to this taping because we had tickets to the former Kelsey Grammer Sitcom “Back To You,” but se la vie, the show was cancelled.

THE LINEUP

You know, going in again after the early show for the second show is just a tiny bit less thrilling for this reason. You don’t get a chance to become friends with as many people in line. By the time we exited the studio from the first taping, half of the second audience was already waiting on the final set of benches! I knew I would be seated in the back just to enjoy the show, but still it’s always such a thrill to meet different people and find out what their life story is.

THE PROCESSING

Processing was very quick this time around. I don’t think I even spent a whole hour on a bench! I couldn’t go forward with the rest of the ineligibles because I was from the first taping and they already went through. So I had the pleasure of watching Stand Blits perform his magic out in the line. There were lots of enthusiastic people in the groups ahead of ours and it seemed that this would be yet another good audience. Our group stepped up to Stan and Tiffany and this time I thanked them both once again and proclaimed to Stan that “If you gave me a cot and a blanket, I could live here! This was just a wonderful experience and I thank you for it!” Stan got a kick out of this and appreciated my loyalty and devotion and then went on to interview my friend, who had been interviewed twice prior. Stan asked him what he did for fun, and my friend stated that he liked to sing Barry Manilow songs. Stan replied that he also like Barry and that he was a great guy. My friend then replied, “Yeah, Stan, I’m a FANILOW!” This remark made Stan crack up laughing; he put his head down between is knees and replied, “You know, William that is weird!” Everyone laughed and I quietly thought to myself, “I think he’s got it!” We went around and through security once again, but there was no time for a bathroom break, as audience members were already filing into the studio!

THE SHOW

My friend and I were seated in the very last row in the center section, but still had an overall good view of the stage. In the previous taping, I was able to sneak a peek behind the turntable and saw two of the games that would turn up in this taping to be played on the turntable. I guess the staff gets everything ready in advance and just sets up shop behind the turntable for everything that needs to go on it!

FLIP FLOP:  Hey it’s my name-sake! This was one of the two games waiting in the wings as I had mentioned before. This was a toughie as that 45 yelled out “leave me alone!!” But Flip-Flop was the answer and we had our first winner of the day! Trips to the Grand Canyon sure are cheap, I guess!

GROCERY GAME:  Wow, was this close! No one in the audience seemed to do the math in their head very fast, as many thought she had lost. Also, this was the second game waiting in the wings that I peeked on!

ONE AWAY:  This game took MUCH longer to play in studio than what was shown on camera. Poor Diane couldn’t quite grasp the concept of the game, and it was about 2 minutes in before Drew had to visually show her what each number would become.

MAKE YOUR MARK:  If it was up to me, I’d use the Race Game Curtain to conceal this game. It sticks out over the Giant Price Tag, and therefore the audience is spoiled as to what game is coming up next! This game too is a lot bigger and brighter in person. Tough loss, as I initially thought the $1100 should have gone with the wood stove instead of the armoire

IUFB #5:  Well my instincts were correct, and there it was! My friend who I brought out to California with me was now standing in Contestants Row! What are the odds? Two college students from the same town get called to COME ON DOWN in sequential years??!! Bidding was tough as we were both baffled by the non-Bosch power tools, which I had known the price of!

PICK-A-NUMBER:  Yay! One of my favorite games!! IN PERSON!! Easy pickings here on the five. Two looked to inexpensive and seven looked too expensive.

IUFB #6:   Argggh! Just one dollar away! Plus my friend had four chances to bid too with the two overbids! BTW, during his warm-up, Rich asks the contestants in contestants row NOT to turn around and look at their friends while the camera is on them because they don’t want the back of their head on film. So my friend had limited time to look at me, plus I was wayyyy in the back.

DICE GAME:  Hooray for Dice Game! This was the first time I had seen it in a while from TV and the first time in person! I breathed a sigh of relief then to know that this game was back and did a little snicker as well, because I knew it was coming back a few weeks before anyone else here at g-r.net did!

SHOWCASES:  Being in the back this time, I paid close attention to the direction given by Adam Sandler this time around in the showcases, and I must say that it’s a hard job. Everyone has to pay attention to their cues and be in their places quickly. You can just make me out in the back in my blue and white striped shirt from the day before too!

REVIEW

There have certainly been a lot of winners during my trip out to LA! This was another great show to be at, and my friend was called down! So now we both had the pleasure of declaring ourselves ineligible contestants. Three tapings down, and sadly there would be only one to go. But it would be at our final Price is Right taping that we would defy the laws of Price! Tune in this Friday to find out what happened!

FLIP FLOP: It's the return of a budget mode trip! I flopped rather than flip-flop.

GROCERY GAME: 2nd? That's rather odd. And Drew, be more enthusiastic when you announce when someone wins.

ONE AWAY: My guess for the car was $22,435, but I ended up changing the 3 instead of the 6.

SCSD 1: Double willy on the wheel.

MAKE YOUR MARK: Missed most of this one.

PICK A NUMBER: 5th?!?!??!? This is outrageous....and difficult too. Either the 5 or the 7 looked right.

DICE GAME: Exactly as I would have guessed.

Showcases:

:frts: CLAP! CLAP! CLAP! CLAP! CLAP!
:frts: CLAP! CLAP! CLAP! CLAP! CLAP!
:frts: CLAP! CLAP! CLAP! CLAP! CLAP!: $27,000(6043)

Splendido: $15,000(2480)

Lucky $even Index: 6.5/7 (if only there wasn't a double willy in the 1st SCSD :( )

Judging from Today's Show:  I guess  :clipboard: is back on budget mode today.   (I guess the three strikes win earlier changed it again.) I felt it went by very fast.  Grocery Game as the second game, when was the last time THAT happened?  Also, It was a day without a cash game. What an odd show.

"I'll take 3 of the cookies"
"The cookies total to $10.47" ...

When I saw it originally, I thought that it was a little odd.  But the more I thought about it, you have to give Drew a break.  He is not used to doing math in his head.  He said something about it during the wheel yesterday.  Heck, I'm an accountant, and I can't do math in my head.  It sounded good when I heard the total ($10.47) but I wasn't sure until I saw WIN light up.  Oh, and YEAH for a Phillies fan!!!

One Away:  I didn't think Drew explained this game so well, and she didn't quite understand what was going on.  But she managed to win the car.  I liked watching this game - it was entertaining.

PAN:  I thought pretty obvious.

I wasn't giving drew or the crowd any criticism about it, i thought it was a fun moment.

Yay Grocery Game second!  When was it last played second?  Heck, when was the last time any regular GP was played second?  Now if we can only get it played first again!  Like Flip Flop is a fun way to open a show :P.

That's been bugging me for years, and now it's finally been answered, as to why Paul used a really weird camera angle when shooting Bob and the contestant walk up to the giant price tag for Barker's Markers!  Unfortunately, it just puts another question in my head:  why not just hide it behind the red curtain?  Grand Game I can understand:  hiding that behind the red curtain would take away the "oomph" when the game is revealed.  But it's not like the game was ever revealed on camera, anyway.

Flip Flop: I would've just flipped. Well Jason decided not only to flip but to flop as well and it paid off.

Grocery Game: Pretty funny for Drew to model the products again.  :oldlol: Boy did both Drew and the audience got confused with the math. As a viewer with a calculator in hand it's no problem. With that she wins. It also serves the peanut gallery right as they booed on her selection of 3 Chips Ahoy!  :oldevil:

One Away: Diane did seemed rather confused on the game leading Drew to show her the numbers she had to choose. Despite that she manages to win the car by picking the right number that was wrong. I would've switched the second 2 and be wrong.

Make Your Mark: When the price lit up of $2720 for the computer I had a feeling that wood stove would not be $3620. Yet Erma decided to stick with it and unfortunately for her it costs her the prizes and the $500.

Pick-A-Number: I would've guessed the 7. Great win for Clifton.

Dice Game: Well David played the game well by rolling a 1, a 6 and getting that 5 exactly right. It all depended on the fourth digit and soon enough it was higher than 2 giving him that car.

Showcases: I would've bid around the $20K area there on Clifton's showcase. However I had a feeling that showcase would cost over $30K. Sadly I was right though it could've been worse. Definitely a great day for Diane today as she's the big winner as a result of a nice bid on her showcase.

I was surprised that Flip Flop was won today, I don't know why the peanut gallery told Jason to choose 54 as the last two numbers, since prices that end in five usually look better and are correct most of the time.

I loved how Drew mentioned like the Oreo bag, the Chips Ahoy one is awesome.  I also liked how the audience groaned initially at Cheryl's purchase of three cookies, but then later burst into applause when she won.  I loved how Drew threw to commercial saying "we love to do math on The Price is Right!"

One Away was very entertaining to watch.  Drew seemed to have fun with Diane and telling her how to address the almighty sound effects lady.  I got a kick out of Diane's reason for choosing five as the last number, because it looked pretty.  I kind of liked how Drew told her to hurry up, so the game moves along quicker.  Diane's celebration when she won the car was just priceless, it was like she was a Samoan or something.

Speaking of One Away, I thought it was kind of weird for the right price to have four blue numbers in a row.

Make Your Mark was not going to be won today, I don't think any casual viewer would have thought that that stove fetched over $3,500 in price.

Pick-a-Number was kind of set up for a win, it was just a tossup between the 5 and the 7, IMO.

I really wonder why Bart didn't do the usual wipe for Dice Game, it seemed weird to have a fade to the close-up of the table instead.

MAKE YOUR MARK:  If it was up to me, I’d use the Race Game Curtain to conceal this game. It sticks out over the Giant Price Tag, and therefore the audience is spoiled as to what game is coming up next!

Didn't the game used to be concealed by the Red Curtain years ago?  I saw a clip in which Barker's Marker$ was played first, and the contestant and Bob stood in front of the turntable before the prizes were revealed, a la Poker Game.   FlipFlopper, from your perspective, does Make Your Mark stick out more than Grand Game did before they started hanging the tag above the floor?

GROCERY GAME: 2nd? That's rather odd.
PICK A NUMBER: 5th?!?!??!?

The last time Pick-a-Number was played fifth was May 25, 2006.  The last time Grocery Game was played second was on October 14, 2005.

Flip Flop: I thought it was a tricky set-up.  26xx seemed to cheap, but 45 seemed to be the last two numbers in the price, and the only price that satisfied both conditions was the price that we know isn't right.

Grocery Game:  I didn't realize the cookies were that expensive, so when I heard their price, I thought Cheryl went over.  I laughed when I saw Drew modeling the products.  :-)

One Away: I do believe this is the first time the host has showed the contestant each possible price (due to the contestant being a visual person).  My original guess was $20,415.

Barker's Marker$ Make Your Mark:  Once again, a loss is caused by a person failing to move his/her mark.  I understand that people don't want to move the mark, because they are worried that, the original choice was right.  However, I believe that if you don't know the price then you have a higher probability of winning if you move the mark?  I'd rather move the mark and lose rather than not move the mark and lose.

Pick a Number: In the 5th slot?  I went with Clifton and chose the 5.  The game entered the rotation in February and has already been played 11 times.  I wonder what it will be like next season when the game is in the rotation since the season premiere.

Dice Game:  3 numbers were automatically right!  Too bad the 4th number wasn't 1, 3, or 6.  On the other hand, good thing David won.

SC1: My Bid: $27,385 / Diff: $5,658
SC2: My Bid: $20,422 / Diff: OVER

Also, It was a day without a cash game.  What an odd show.
I should point out that it is rare that in a week 4 or all 5 episodes contain a cash game.  In fact, in the months of May and June, there have been about half of the shows with a cash game and half without a cash game.  It is quite common to see a show without a cash game, and I don't think it is unusual or strange to see an episode without a cash game.

Thats it! I thought something was weird on dice game but i couldn't figure it out... i hope its not another permanent change, the dice wipe is fun.

It did appear that Drew thought she might have gone over on Grocery Game. On GG, it was a nice touch with the "modeling" of the grocery items, plus he plugs the cookie bag  :-)

I agree. Although it doesn't strictly match up with the Monty Hall problem, since the choices are not completely random, someone once told me that in this game, giving up the $500 to switch the marker is usually the wiser choice when in doubt about the price of the final prize.

Out of a possible $99,619 in winnings, today batted .802.

It does seem that :clipboard: may have dropped the budget for this one.

Flippy:  I'm surprised that got won today.  $2,645 looked a lot better than $2,654.  Nicely done by Jason on stopping :clipboard:

Grocery:  Yay!  Half-Off cue and Temptation cue! :P :P I'm surprised to see this game second.  It's extremely rare to see this game either first or second anymore.  October 14, 2005, was the last time GG was played second.  This was a really easy setup, with two products under a dollar.  But Cheryl was such a fantastic shopper that she didn't need either one of the cheapos.

One-Bid #3:  Better keep an eye on Diane.  She looks like a Samoan. :-D

One Away:  Diane had an unusual way of playing this game.  Wanting to see each number flipped to see how they looked.  Picking numbers that looked prettier.  Hanging on to Drew's right arm during the entire spiel with the mighty sound effects lady.  And that method turned out to be successful!  She was really fun to watch the entire time.

MYMark:  There is no way any of those prizes was gonna be $3,620.  I don't know how that was lost.  And I'm dismayed that that loss blew a perfect show.

PA#:  Fifth!  It's been slightly over two years since PA#'s last appearance in the 5-hole.  Easy playing.

Dice:  Boo on the lack of dice wipe today.

My showcase bids:
Trailer--$33,007
Random room/snowmobile--$14,607

Fun show today. Game slotting today was fantastic.

Everyone is talking about that Oct. 15th show with Grocery 2nd I believe the full lineup was this
1) Golden Road
2) Grocery Game
3) Plinko
4) Most Expensive
5) That's Too Much
6) Barker's Bargain Bar

Grocery Game was also won that day as well.

The lineup in which Pick-a-Number last appeared 5th was:
1) Pushover
2) Lucky 7
3) Buy or Sell
4) Check Out
5) Pick-a-Number
6) Dice Game

It's somewhat ironic to me that the last time P-A-N was played 5th Dice Game followed as it followed P-A-N today. I don't remember if it was won or lost that day however.

I can't get that figure.  Without counting the possibility of a double showcase win, six $500 bonuses for bidding perfectly on the items up for bids, or six $11,000 bonuses for the showcase showdowns, I get $98,499--if I'm adding something wrong, I can't figure out where.  But even with just considering the possibility of a double showcase win, which is a very realistic possibility in any given episode, it goes up to $115,979.  And with all that other stuff stuff added in, which is admittedly very unlikely to all happen in any episode, it goes up to $184,979.  And if I really wanted to get nitpicky, and consider the slim possibility of a quadruple showcase win, it goes up to $259,152... which is probably not the value you want to consider, admittedly.

Drew and pretty much the entire audience thought she lost. Heck, even I thought she lost, until I saw $10.47 show up, and even then, I thought Shane made a mistake.

I'm amazed Flip Flop was won. The contestant didn't pick the price ending in 5? What is this, Coming or Going?  :P

Quiet down out there! She won! Maybe the show should hand out calculators for the days that Grocery Game/Check Out/Check Game are played. Or any other game with math. Like Take Two.

I enjoyed One Away today. With seeing the numbers to make decisions, not listening to the audience (or at least looking at them) during the first part of the game, and just the whole process of asking about the numbers, it was probably one of the best One Away playings I've seen. (Maybe not by price, but everything else.)

That thing sure didn't look $3,000! Tough loss....which cost us a perfect show. Ah well.\

I'd say Pick a Number was a sub today, but I'm not sure what it'd be for, since we've lacked SP games a lot lately. Easy playing.

The transition from the car to Dice Game was just kind of....awkward for me....I don't know.

I can't get that figure.  Without counting the possibility of a double showcase win, six $500 bonuses for bidding perfectly on the items up for bids, or six $11,000 bonuses for the showcase showdowns, I get $98,499--if I'm adding something wrong, I can't figure out where.

I got $98,503. Huh. That's without all of your stuff, (but with the $500 from Make Your Mark).

FlipFlopper, from your perspective, does Make Your Mark stick out more than Grand Game did before they started hanging the tag above the floor?

Well, the price tag is on the floor and you see the very top rounded half of the game, and what's more, the lights for it are flashing! The Grand Game prop is taller so I'd assume that would stick out much more than Mark would.  You can also make out the very tips of the letters "MAKE YOUR".

I'd say Pick a Number was a sub today, but I'm not sure what it'd be for, since we've lacked SP games a lot lately.

There have been a lot of shows in which no SP game was played, so I don't think the fact that no SP game was played is the reason Pick a Number was a sub.  I don't even think it was a sub.

I can't get that figure.  Without counting the possibility of a double showcase win, six $500 bonuses for bidding perfectly on the items up for bids, or six $11,000 bonuses for the showcase showdowns, I get $98,499--if I'm adding something wrong, I can't figure out where.

You didn't add anything wrong, I did. I mis-read the correct prices in MYM, adding the values of the contestant's picks. I also did not include the $500, since it is not required to win the game.

Since I can't edit my first post, let me try this again:

Out of a possible $97,999 in winnings (not taking into account perfect bids, the wheel, DSWs, and in this case the possible MYM $500), today's show batted .785

My original batting average was also off :-(

I enjoyed this show very much. Gail, the One Away contestant made me laugh so much. She was so funny. I'm so happy that she won the car and got to be in the showcase.

I didn't know that Make Your Mark went under such a big set change like it did. I was so surprised.

I didn't get to see the other half because of a job interview.

Overall, it was a good show.

MYMark:  There is no way any of those prizes was gonna be $3,620.  I don't know how that was lost.  And I'm dismayed that that loss blew a perfect show.
Haven't you learned it's the clueless contestants with the stupid losses that blow it, with all our 5/6s recently? :(

Despite that...SAMOAN ALERT! That was great, I thought -415 or -635 were equally good changes. :P Dicey was also finally nice to a contestant.

FlipFlop: Good win.

Grocery: Second?? How unique!! Cheryl made this playing very cool. A pretty much "shot-in-the-dark" win.

One Away: Well, Diane sure made this playing such a HOOT. Drew sure had a ball with her and seeing her ways of saying "Old Mighty Sound Effects Lady" was a RIOT. Great win.

Mark: An obviously easy setup is foiled.

P-a-N: Very nice.

Dice: Another mighty good win.

Showcases: Congrads to Diane for coming out on top.

A 3.50-star show.

Hey All,

Great show today.  Should have been a "perfect show"  .....BUT, some was "heck bent on holding on to $500", paying no attention to the "3 big prizes they could have won".

If so glad Clifton got on stage and did well, as his spirit-attitude is what The Price Is Right is all about.  Many a future contestants and former contestants should and could "take a lesson from him".  He lost the showcase with class.  He treated the NOTOT Contestant in front of him in bidders row with class, more class than I would have if I were in danger of being "stuck-boxed into contestants row because of them".

My friend was in the audience for this show, drawing priority number 294, THE VERY SAME ONE I HAD..., and I agreed with them that One Away was "painful to watch", BUT Im glad she won the car, she seemed like a nice person.  Thank God it was edited.

Before yall start bashing, I know people get nervous on stage.  But how many times does Drew have to explain the pricing game :-?.

Is today Friday?

Grocery Game second...Pick a Number fifth...and Make Your Mark; well just Make Your Mark showing up with Pick a Number is enough.

Cool ass lineup and good show.

Nice work, Roger.

Very good show today,

Also one of the most emotional One Away playings that I have seen!  How much was actually edited from this game's playing?

Not to mention Dice and One Away showing in the same show...that's kinda rare, isn't it?
(Notice no love for Flip Flop....)

This still doesn't beat the lineup a couple of weeks ago with Master Key last when it should have been something along the lines of Money or Cover.

Did I hear Drew tell Diane to hurry up in One Away? Even if it was a long playing, Drew's making some progress.

Good show!

FlipFlop: I'd have lost, following the "ends in 5" principle that CoG contestants haven't been able to master this season.  I'm not sure how so much of the audience thought he should 'flop' as well as 'flip', but he won so good for him.

I'm with the crowd that also thought the contestant had gone over with the cookies, until I saw the subtotal.  Hmm...6 Chips Ahoy cookie packs would be only 6 cents off of an exacta.

I really liked Drew's interaction with Diane in One Away.  Yeah the game went a little long (Bart stayed on her a little extra for reaction shots, too), but that end product on screen was really good.

Make Your Mark:  I thought this was kinda tough.  I thought for certain that something would be $3620, especially with two of the other options being $--00.  Given the two items revealed first, I know I would have hesitated before switching (although I probably would have in the end). Very tricky setup by :clipboard:
